Sometimes I think a lot about the overlap the Fire Nation and the Water Tribes have in the unsaid things, or the things implied by the biome: heavy emphasis on seafaring, how ocean kumquats are similar to sea prunes, the Painted Lady being a beloved water spirit specifically revered by a Fire Nation town, respect and appreciation for the opposite element (you can’t tell me the Fire Nation wouldn’t have a monsoon season to create all that lushness, or that the Water Tribes wouldn’t be thankful for the return of the sun after every polar winter)

Which also made me think about any overlaps or connections like that with the Air Nomad Temples and the Earth Kingdom: the temples are all built high up on mountains, but I feel like Air Nomads would appreciate the overwhelming sense of big sky that Earth Kingdom plains and more arid landscapes would have (if you’ve experienced the American Southwest, you know exactly what I’m talking about).

Nebulous thoughts, but I like to think about the overlaps and parallels of opposing elements a lot

Headcanons for the ghosts on taskmaster?

my best guess as to what they'd be like:

robin is good all round, in a very chaotic fashion. he's 50/50 on physical tasks, because he goes into everything headfirst without actually planning things out. however, this also allows him to bullshit his way through lateral thinking tasks. unfortunately he's probably one of those people who'd get through a task triumphantly thinking he's absolutely killed it and then they reveal that he completely forgot about one of the task's rules and gets no points. drives alex mad by completely ignoring him. greg would love him though

humphrey is great on lateral thinking tasks, and thinking outside the box is his strong suit. i reckon he'd be pretty good at the prize task, for the same reason, and any of the creative tasks. he could probably do pretty well on team tasks, too. his downfall would be when his clumsiness meets physical tasks and he nearly beheads alex. or himself. have you seen that one tim vine task designed specifically for him to make a pun? he's that. drives alex mad with constant questions about whether he can do xyz

i'm not sure how well mary would do, but i imagine she'd also be good at creative tasks. possibly not so good overall; you need confidence to pull off some tasks. she might be her own downfall for worrying over her plan and thus wasting all her time. would completely smash everyone on at least one task when nobody expects it, though

kitty would be very sweet, but, alas, not very good. she's not awful, she just never quite manages to do any better than consistently alright. great at team tasks or musical tasks, though

thomas would be an absolute idiot. just completely useless. can't do team tasks. continues to bring in, like, a plate or a shoe or something for every prize task. fails tasks in ways you didn't know were possible. you know john kearns? yeah

fanny would be incredible at any task involving maths, and not much use at everything else. owns a lot of weird stuff which works wonderfully for the prize task. possibly the type to be an otherwise deeply intelligent woman who gets onto taskmaster and subsequently proves that (academic) intelligence means nothing on taskmaster

i don't have anything to say about the captain except that alex would give him a ridiculous task that no one else has to do (he does not realise this) and he proceeds to try and fail to do it perfectly. and he will continue until he gets it right

pat would, obviously, be great at team tasks. i think he'd suck at creative tasks, but he'd probably be decently good at everything else, especially anything with practical skills

julian bullshits his way through every task. negotiates his way out of a corn maze. somehow, it works

question for anyone with thoughts on the subject: books about true events are expected to be accurate. if you read a book called "the teapot dome scandal" (or whatever) you would expect to read about the events of the scandal.

if there was a chapter in the middle of it that you found out later was completely made up by the author just to keep you engaged cuz he thought you might be bored otherwise - with no notice that it had switched to fiction - you would be mad, right? you would have expected it to be made clear to the reader what is real and what is a fictional insertion. because, even if it doesn't have a bibliography or notes, you expect such a book to be factual, because it's explicitly about the teapot dome scandal which is a thing that really happened. (again, just an example.)

but it's different for tv or movies, when something crosses from book to digital it's immediately accepted that it will be quite fictionalized and inaccurate and that's just how it is. a tv show about the scandal would have fake characters and a total messed up timeline and tons of dramatic license just by default. if you were picky about it people would be like "well just enjoy things."

why is the standard so vastly different? is it because tv and movies are less "serious"? i feel like that's not a popular position - and yet it would seem so cuz otherwise what is the reason that tv is not seen as capable of presenting actual history? i was talking irl about this and my friend said it's because tv has to be fictionalized to be more successful and interesting. but lots of history books are sold to the general public and quite interesting and even the most mass-appeal paperback histories would still be rightfully criticized for freely mixing fact and fiction.

why is tv history supposed to be totally different than written history? it's like taken for granted that history prevented in a visual medium NEEDS to be full of dramatic inaccuracies. i'm struggling to understand this.

imagine him growing it out for a bit. maybe he's too lazy to groom it in the mornings. maybe he's going through a rough patch that he hasn't had the energy or will to trim it. it becomes scruffy and unkempt, but still very, very attractive.

Oh, don't mind me- I'm just trying to build a story about how when Parker was the master mind and Eliot was running ragged to help him relax (and sleep/doze,) she'd play with his hair. Eliot's sitting on the floor with his head on her lap and hair fanned over her jeans. All the while Hardison is sitting beside Parker playing computer games, his knee pressed against Eliot's shoulder.

Eliot's humming/purring and Hardison is slowly falling asleep and leaning closer, until eventually Hardison's head is on Parker's shoulder. And Parker is happy and content because she's safe and her boys are happy...
