I've been watching a ton of Youtube videos reviewing and rewriting Disney's Wish movie. There are a lot of bad movies out there, but what makes this one unique is that nearly everyone agrees that this movie had good bones, but was executed poorly.

The villain song really exemplifies this, and not just because it has lyrics like "It's genetics, yeah I got these genes from outer space" (which he didn't, by the way.)

The king's flaw is he's over-protective which leads him to be too controlling of his subjects. He takes their wishes from them (which makes them forget what they wished for) and won't grant most of them or give them back. When he was a child, marauders destroyed his kingdom and killed his parents (I think?) which instilled a fear of other people's motivations. So now he's a control freak.

So here's what the king's villain song establishes:

He's vain! This has never come up before and doesn't have anything to do with his villain motivations.

Then we have lyrics suggesting that he exploits people's labor and takes the credit for himself to make himself look good. ("I'd give the clothes off Benito's back, if you really needed that. I'd be the first one to volunteer Henry if your home were to crumble.") BUT the king studied hard to master magic, built a kingdom, and sometimes magically grants wishes. No part of that is stolen valor. This lyric doesn't make sense.

Then the infamous "I let you live here for free and I don't even charge you rent" line. I'm not going to talk about why it's stupid because everyone else already has.

Then the king compliments himself a bunch, and I guess the takeaway is he's narcissistic. Okay. BUT. That still doesn't tie into his motivation for hoarding the wishes! Which is that he's over-protective and paranoid about what the 'wrong' wish could do! This song is a mess! Just like the movie it's in.

Wish has an interesting premise. It could have been a good movie. I like a lot of the early concept art and ideas, some of which even made it to the animatic stage. But instead it's full of non-characters blandly imitating the actions of classic Disney characters without any understanding of what made classic Disney great.

There are still creative people working at Disney and I feel bad for them. The call is coming from inside the house, and it's coming from executives saying "Nix the shapeshifting Star Boy, the stockholders want something that will sell more plushies."

Hi Aphblr. I just did a marathon of My Inner Demons: it's perfect. The guys are perfect, the jokes are perfect.

It's ending is not perfect.

I need people to tell me what they would have wanted from a season 2 or even just for a finale. I need to cope and my coping mechanism is altering reality to fit the needs of the universe.

Also Pierce is still the best character after 4 years

I mentioned that Halsin's mother left him a slender journal with all of her notes, remedies, and recipes from her time as a healer experimenting with different ways of treating ailments. It's been an invaluable resource to him, even if some of her concoctions have become difficult to procure with resources they once had easy access to becoming less readily available with time.

He takes that little book near everywhere with him, the pages practically disintegrating with age, held together by a wing and a prayer and careful restitching of paper under the elven crafted leather binding - still in tact - some places worn completely smooth and illegible with age.

And the thing is, he's memorized that journal cover to cover; he knows every note and every scribble in the margins; has used nearly every recipie several hundred times over; remembers the order of the mixture of her burn salve to the exact consitency. He remembers how it used to smell, and the corner where she wrote his name before it eventually creased away. So, by all means, he does not need to take it with him anymore, if for nothing else, to keep it in tact. But he takes it with him regardless because every now and again, he likes to open it and look at his mother's handwriting, carefully tracing over her unclosed loops and crowded letters; it's the last thing of hers he has that has not been lost to time. And he fears one day he'll forget what it looked like, as he has started to forget what she looked like.

alright so, I made the absolutely WRONG decision to update my game (the last time I had updated was sometime in october) and for my troubles now Dominic Baxter-Steele and Aiden Cortes both have the face melting issue, and even my backed up version of them are corrupted. This was most likely caused by the now very out of date lip slider originally from teanmoon. I've tried every possible fix you can think of, and taken out cc entirely and the issue still stands. :(

Basically I'm going to have to recreate both of them to the best of my abilities 😔 The good news is, they are both kids and have barely been seen. However I am now looking at every single sim in the simblr to make sure they are the only two affected by it. So if anyone looks a little different going forward it's because this 2,000$ game is a piece of shit.

Ahhhhhh so I was teaching online last night, as I do every Wednesday night, and sharing my screen - again, as I always do - when I selected the URL to copy and paste a YouTube link into the chat for my students. I completely forgot that when you click on the address bar, previous sites come up. Among many that were decidedly expected, "Works: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson" was decidedly less so. I clicked away as quickly as possible, but. Um. Two questions:

was supposed to be in london right now, but airport staff went on strike for like 10 hours yesterday and after spending 6 hours at the airport they finally told us that our flight was cancelled. spent a total of about 4 hours on the phone yesterday and this morning finding a new flight for tomorrow morning (this is one of the busiest times of the year here) and there’s still a pretty decent chance we’ll get to the airport and won’t be able to actually board it since it’s a different airline and the online check in is fucked. pray for me 😂

lucci is just. regretting all of his life choices at the moment. starting with top hats and ending with finding out he's related to luffy.
