What year does synergized take place?

There is no set year, but it takes place sort of in the mid-2000s, at least technology-wise for humans. Aesthetically, it's somewhat a mix of multiple decades.

I set the technology at the mid-2000s for two main reasons. One a lot of my inspirations for this project are shows/comics from around that time, and two, the major reason I don't want to write smart phones or modern type social media. I don't find it fun to write (mostly modern social media integration), and what is considered modern changes so fast. No matter how up-to-date I try to keep it, the nature of a long-term project like this, it will fall behind anyway, so why not set it slightly in the past where I already know we're human technology is at and will go...

I kinda got a light alt-history thing going on where no real-world brands, cities, or countries are name-dropped. It feels pretty close to our world, but occasionally, a character will mention something like "at least Earth only had one world War" or how theirs a town that it and all the people living in it mysteriously all turned into solid metal like 300 years ago, also it just a tourist attraction you can just visit now or religions being different from the real-world ones, the vibes are definitely east coast America, and it is sorta set there but it is definitely not a 1 to 1 with the real world (sorta how Steven universe handled things)

but they are. they are asking people who have that information, for the information. they are doing their homework by reaching out and asking people questions. just because it's not typed on a search bar, doesn't mean it's any less of putting an effort to finding things out.

like i'm sorry people in the past refused/ridiculed you when you asked them for help. doesn't mean you have to be like them tho. why is learning through human interaction rejected in favour of isolated learning?

#my posts #rants #im part of the organising team for the women's march in my city #and someone interested to join the march was asking public transport directions to the march #the immediately response from the social media team in our group chat was to berate that person for being lazy/not doing their homework #like sure the transit map is available on the website #but anyone who takes public transport in my city KNOWS that the trains and maps are unreliable in so many ways #i was exploring a different line yesterday and got on the wrong train despite being on the correct platform #and i take public transport regularly and have a good sense of direction but the public transport here isnt designed to be user friendly #if they had to ask which line they should interchange at you KNOW they are clueless and probably terrified of the public transportation her #and yet as organisers they refuse to make it easier for people to participate at a march no one owes us to attend #they just gave them a link and asked them to figure it out themselves #i am very familiar with that route and i just KNOW the interchange is confusing and large enough that beginner commuters will get lost #and you know what could happen if someone struggles to navigate public transport? they probably would just go home instead #they blame the education system for producing youngsters who are spoon fed #girl the older generation said the exact same thing about your generation pls #your misdirected anger is being projected at the victim of this system instead of at the actual problem #which is what i've been observing from career activists around me and more #you claim to fight for the people #but the very people you're fighting for are asking you for help #yet you refuse to help them unless it's through significant policies or drastic systemic changes #your fight is conditional and only convenient for you but you refuse to admit it and then pretend the opposite #the moment they decided that they would 'teach them a lesson' indirectly by forcing them to figure out their own routes #they've already fallen into that activist trap of thinking they are above everyone else and that they are here to teach people how to #be a better person according to their standards because they know better by being more involved in activism and are better educated #instead of putting themselves in the girl's shoes and not assuming the worst of people as the default #maybe that girl is new in town and is unfamiliar with public transport here #maybe they had a bad experience getting lost before and wanted someone experienced to share some commuting tips to avoid getting lost #maybe she would rather pull her teeth out than try to figure out the route with unreliable mountains of information online #maybe she has executive dysfunction that makes filtering through tons of information to find that ONE route very daunting

I really do think that your first fandom forever shapes your fandom perception. Like even now, many fandoms later since my first, every time I enter a new fandom part of me is always surprised and slightly disappointed by the lack of animatics and/or MAPs, because my first fandom had such a MAP culture.

What if they didn't put ads every 3 posts. Three posts between ads, literally. Not even counting the ad for Tumblr Live.

Also what if tumblr didn't know what city Im in. I do not want my location tracked or stored anywhere unless I give explicit ongoing permission, like with my GPS app that I allow to track me only when the app is open, and then it deletes the data (allegedly) when I stop giving permission.

#ugh i do SO much to try to keep my location private. i use an android with all the tracking things Off (except for my weather app #which is a highly specific app that does NOTHING except provide weather; and i have the location turned Off so it doesnt even know where i #live). my tumblr email is not connected to any real life stuff because i made it when i was very closeted and made a new email and password #for it and never linked them to anything else. i have bare minimum apps. i use firefox and duckduckgo. #for shits sake i use a small barely-known map app because any Map App that has had large success under capitalism is inevitably going to #start selling private info or working with a cheap security system designed to allow quiet data leaks. #i guess i use gmail and gphotos but my phone doesnt HAVE a native Photo App. i have to use one i download and im too damn skittish to try #i guess i did get netflix recently....sigh.... i figured they WERENT tracking me because they email me EVERY TIME I USE NETFLIX to alert me #that OHHHH A NEW DEVICE IS USING NETFLIX AAAAA WHAT IF ITS AGAINST NETFLIX POLICY OH NOOOO. so i figured they didnt have a way to ID me. #UGH. CAN I PLEASE EXIST WITHOUT BEING MONITORED FOR FIVE SECONDS. can i please access Social Media which is a shitty substitute for actual #human connection but its the best i have--without someone noting my location and then trying to sell me things??? can i please watch film??? #i cant go to a theater because my region does NOT believe in covid and not even medical staff attending Very Ill Patients wear masks anymore #stupid fucking homophobic transphobic anti-vax society has made it too dangerous for me to access most Not-Online forms of enrichment. and i #cant even use the Internet (a magnificent ASTONISHING human creation) without being tracked and advertised to. #ugh.. #humanity is just so cool and brave and kind and amazing and yet we have taxes and advertisment IDs and traffic and medicine shortages. #its not like the ads even work. even when it shows me stuff i DO want. i cant fucking afford things. i already have spent too much money on #things that i dont need like Good Food and Entertainment and Juice. ugh....okay i do need food and liquids....Good food even. my body cant #survive on College Foods like it could in the past. The pig headed defense of Hamas, that might be a terrorist org - I don't care - but definitely is a radical extremist group. We know even from Palestinian people that Hamas does not represent them all and that Hamas does harm and hurt them too. Directly. But we of course cannot mention it because to the good people the victims need to be 'correct' and easy to identify.
