Max (Sam and Max) - 1, 7, 10 and 15!
1: My first impression of them
I remember thinking Max was really interesting. I was introduced to him via Poker Night at the Inventory rather than an actual part of his series, so everything I saw was isolated from his adventures. Even so, he intrigued me enough to chase down the series itself, and I think one of my earliest posts about Sam & Max is even something along the lines of "I got way more into this series than I thought I would". Of course, nothing truly ended up coming of that until years later, but when I fall, I fall hard, you know how it is.
7: A quote of them that you remember
There are a lot of good ones, but the one that immediately popped into my head was, "I take my coffee green: like my men."
Another good one is "Come on Sam, don't be a jerk." because he meant it, and there's just something special about Max being put so far out of his comfort zone that he has neither the energy nor will to be his usual Chaotic Neutral self.
10: Describe the character in one sentence
He's ADHD on crack, wrapped up in a fuzzy white blanket.
15: Worst storyline they had
Maybe the one where you have to manipulate the timeline in order to make him like girls, so he hits on Momma Bosco, which causes her to lose interest in him?
Okay, so there's a time machine, and Bosco goes through it, sees his mom as a young woman, he panics, and knocks over a bottle of milk, which spills into her new invention: The Baby Maker. You take a DNA sample of the mom, and the dad, and you can literally just make a baby. But now Bosco is half-cow because of the milk, so you have to find the male donor and get a sample to put him back to normal. But then you talk to Momma Bosco, and she falls for Max because he doesn't like her, and you always want what you can't have. So now he's her new pet project, and she decides not to even have a kid at all, so now Bosco is fading from existence because she never uses the Baby Maker, and now you have to find Bosco's "dad" and get Momma Bosco to lose interest in Max so you can get Bosco back to normal.
You have to go through time, manipulate things, and make the Soft, Marketable, Baby Version of Max go to his school prom (this year's theme is "Awakening Desires") and after-prom kissing retreat in order to "awaken his desires" and make him like girls.
Back to the 60's, Max is now a lecherous womanizer because we changed his childhood, and this puts off Momma Bosco to the point where she loses interest in him. She decides to have a kid again, and now Bosco is saved, yay!
I just...I know it's a point and click adventure, and I know those get really convoluted at times (that's part of the charm), but I mean...just pretend to like her. This is the only puzzle in the series that can be solved without any items or anything, just...hit on her. I don't know why it annoys me so much, the whole rigamarole just feels so pointless, I guess. They even address Max being so OOC:
"I don't like you like this, Max."
"Don't worry, Sam, I can feel it wearing off already! I'll bet by next month, I'll be completely back to normal!"
This, being in reference to the fact that the series was being released in episodic format, month by month. That's a good joke. I like that joke.
But seriously, just pretend to like her.
Honorable mention for Max's worst storyline is that time he literally just dies. Like...dies dies. No Deus Ex Machina to save him, no "we brought him back to life!" just dead.
