Do you have any tips for an aspiring librarian who’s going to college in a few months?
my first instinct upon reading this ask was to give you some good but fairly generic advice about getting library experience via your school's work study program, exploring different career paths within the library umbrella, interning at your local public library if possible, and so on & so forth
but then i realized that that is the sort of information you can find pretty much anywhere & i will instead give you my personal insight into what has helped me be successful in my current library role.
do whatever weird shit you are passionate about with your whole heart & soul, because you will learn invaluable skills without even intending to
what i mean by all that is that my current position as the assistant manager of a small, rural library branch is really just twenty-nine different jobs in a trench coat. i'm alternately an it specialist, a graphic designer, a career counselor, a preschool teacher, a customer service agent, or whatever else a particular situation demands.
and so much of my current skillset is a result of spending my high school & college years doing random nerd bullshit on the internet.
i'm dead serious. my ability to troubleshoot basically any possible tech issue, my knowledge of graphic design software, my extensive research capabilities, my written communication skills, and my absolute certainty that if i don't know how to do something, i can figure it out if you give me fifteen minutes to poke around on google are all products not of my formal education or work experience, but of the countless hours i have devoted to online nerd bullshit
enjoy college. explore your passions. get super into modding minecraft, or archiving lost media, or formatting fanzines, or literally whatever niche nonsense speaks to you. librarianship is a career of quick thinking & problem solving skills, and you'll best develop those doing something you truly care about
in the words of the mountain goats, the things you do for love are gonna come back to you one by one

Breakdown of a Dialog Tracking Document
Tumblr media
Here's a little overview of the Voice Over tracker template I use for tracking dialog in my games! If anyone wants to view these in action please check out this Google Sheet and make a copy for your own use.
I think this format is mostly useful for games that are smaller and/or only have some VO, I can't imagine it scales well to larger projects which might need more complex software like Articy. I use a separate 'working copy' of docs like this with additional language columns for tracking translation specifically, but this structure I find is a useful starting point for managing any kind of string-based localization or VO to your game. I do most of my writing in docs like these.
Overview
Generally I keep docs like this for my own sanity when organizing VO, and also for sending out to collaborators like localization specialists or Voice Actors who need access to this organized information. Keeping docs like this not only helps yourself during production, but also anyone else you might be working with.
You'll notice that in this doc for an unreleased game I have it broken down into 'Days' (effectively levels in the game), but in terms of Macro Structure I tend to lean towards whatever makes sense for each game. Some games I break it down by level while others might be broken down more by sequences or events - it really depends on the game you're making or how your VO will be applied.
Tumblr media
I typically have a "Guide" section to walk a user through how to use the doc (some people have never used spreadsheets before, after all!). I also often have a "Generic" section to catch dialog that doesn't fit elsewhere like character barks, noises, grunts, etc. "Data" is just isolated section for spreadsheet data like Roles and the like.
Speaker
Tumblr media
This column indicates the speaker of the line. I typically have these filterable, so that if I'm working with Voice Actors they can break it down to their line exclusively to read from the sheet directly, or if I need to only view certain actor's lines while working.
Line Key
Tumblr media
Each line is given its own key which indicates its place in the structure of the wider game, as well as relative to each other. This is vital for certain implementations like Localization/Translations, which pull from Line Keys instead of directly from the line itself. This allows the line to be changed for each language independently, the only thing linking them being this key. This also allows you to change individual lines without breaking dependencies.
I typically name keys as [Actor]_[Context]_[NumberOfLine] as a baseline.
Context
Tumblr media
This is for direction of voice actors and localization, to give people who may not have access to a build better context of the lines - especially if the lines might be confusing when viewed in a vacuum. (Note that in most cases you'll want your collaborators to have access to some kind of build to make their lives easier).
Notes
Tumblr media
Similar to context, to apply any direction for VO or additional context that may be relevant to collaborators (e.g. direction to Voice Actors, intonation notes, or elaboration for translators).
Line
Tumblr media
The content of the line itself; what the line should say!
Anyway yeah, feel free to copy this and use this how you like. I just find docs like this are super helpful for not losing your mind when it comes to planning game structure and dialog sequences. :)

jobs masterlist.
because there can never really be enough masterlists regarding jobs for muses as far as i’m concerned. jobs on here will be separated by university / town / city / cruise / entertainment, as those tend to be the main roleplay settings i see. i’m gonna try to keep these more unique as opposed to popular ones like professor, barista and bartender - just because i feel like having unique jobs would be more useful. if you found this at all helpful, please reblog / like.

RGG/Yakuza/Judgement at the Grocery Store
UPPER MANAGEMENT = UP WORKING CLASS = WC CHAIRMAN AND HIS ENTOURAGE = CE CLIENTS= C
Yakuza:
Tumblr media
Kiryu (WC): Initially a Stock clerk was eventually Promoted to IT (responsible for price accuracy for the printed price shelf tags, maintaining the computers, point of sale software the cash registers use, and any electronic scales that weigh and print prices).
Akiyama (CE): Investor. Due to his generous “donations” to the company, he is part of the chairman’s entourage (due to his wallet’s  size, his opinion matters). Thanks to him (and Tachibana), they were able to raise the salaries of the employees not part of upper management, so all of them love him and get along well when he is there. Akiyama can admit that he grew quite fond of many employees, especially Hana who will become his personal secretary. As expected, many members of upper management can’t stand him, wondering why he is even allowed to be around (they are jealous)
Haruka (WC): Cashier
Nishiki (WC): Online order clerk. Spends a lot of time chatting with Kiryu but likes his position since he is away from the upper management most of the day (he thinks they are scary and wants none of it)
Yumi (WC): Cashier
Daigo (CE): Chairman. A big picture of him is in the store saying he is the boss but you can rarely see him in the building. But for the few times, he visits the place, the upper management wake up out of their coma and pull up an act as if issues where not part of their daily lifes (they basically threaded MAjima to not blow the whistle about who is not doing their jobs.  Saejima (WC):. He prefers something more simple and since he listens to Majima’s endless rants about his position everytime. he would better be left alone away from customer service but ended up as a Loss prevention associate (helps a grocery store combat and apprehend shoplifters and unlawful employees. They often monitor security cameras for suspicious activity, and some dress as shoppers to monitor activity covertly. Loss prevention associates often contact local law enforcement to alert them of problems.). Lee, who is a security guard works along him.
Ryuji (C): Rude customer
Yuya (WC): shopping cart attendant. While he was proposed higher level position many times, he declined them
Nishida (UP): Previously a stock clerk who graduated from his position to become Majima’s right man. They separate Majima’s workload between them.
Majima (UP): Customer Service Representative. Held to higher regard because of more experience, knowledge, and skills. Since nobody in this company wants to do their job, he has to do a lot people’s tasks. Is the main person dealing with issues with customers (that’s the person we send when they say “I wanna talk to the manager”). Stressed.
Date: (highest working class) Pharmacist.
Rikiya (WC): Floor Clerk
Hana: (upper working class) HR Secretary. She will likely interview new employees. Nishitani (UP): Supervisor. Regardless his personality, he actually does his job. He knows how to make the daily life spicy (Kashiwagi hates but since he knows how to manage rude clients to fuck off so gracefully and he can shut down arguments easily). Since he does his job so well, you can find do all type of random stuff in the store like taking hold of the AUX cord to blast Japanese 80s hits in the radion (play Namidawo Misenaide -Boys Don't Cry- by WINK) or buying items just to annoy Majima. His favorite activity is to announce employees birthdays on the store’s microphone before slapping a cake in their faces (Kiryu couldn’t escape it, Nishiki ran for his life). Nishitani succeeded to slap a cake in daigo’s face to everyone’s excitement (covertly or invertly expressed). He is just appointed himself to Mine’s burning anger, not now but one day. Always to take home what they are supposed get rid of (past date item and damaged food products) Mine (CE): Chairman Assistant/Secretary.
Kashiwagi (UP): Inventory Control Specialist. Give this man a break. He is at the clock at 6AM everyday. Mr. Black Coffee. He spends most of his time making calls to suppliers (and often arguing with them) and check the inventory (IF PEOPLE WERE ENTERING THE DATA CORRECTLY SMH.)
Shinida (WC): Grocery clerk, who graduated from his position to become (kinda off) Majima assistant to help with everyday tasks. To take charge when Majima is too tired or angry. If not, they kinda work as duo for Majima’s work load.
Tachibana (CE): Financial Advisor. He is basically the one over the upper management of the store. If it was not for him being so good at problem-solving and calm regardless of the situation, Daigo will penalize him for how poorly the upper management are doing their job (that’s not on him lol). Always wanted to give Kiryu a promotion so he could join the upper management team and put things back in order.
Baba (WC): shopping cart attendant. Just wants to put his earphones on be left alone.
Hamura, Kuze & Sagawa (UP): Head supervisior, but nobody is sure what is role is since they can’t answer nobody’s questions about anything. More the corporate type, since they send another head supervisor (lower than them) to do all the work (a.k.a answering clients complaints). they spend all their day laughing, chatting and smoking and discussing everything but work-related things. But if there’s financial losses or their quota are not met, you will sure hear one of them raging anger ready to crack the whip on any subordinates. Shimano (CE): Store Manager. He represents the Chairman when he is not there. So he kinda acts like he owns the place (in a way he does owns the building). He is the one watching over a lot of things in the store and especially keeping an eye over the employees. He picks Majima apart and sends Sagawa to scold him about what he is supposedly doing wrong. He is behind most (if not all) employees discharges. Keeps the business afloat. Mirei (UP): HR Yakuza 7/Like A Dragon
Tumblr media
Ichiban (WC): Started as a custodian but (after Jo’s training) was upgraded to stock clerk for general merchandise and non-perishable food items. They are always calling him to go check prices and exchange articles since he is so fast and his store clerk colleagues are nowhere to be found.
Adachi (upper working class): Butcher Nanba: (upper working class) Works in the pharmacy.
Han Joongi (WC): Food Preparation: Bread.
Zhao (WC): Food Preparation: Pastry/bakery. Decorates the cakes and makes pastries sold in the grocery store. Saeko (WC): Beauty & Health Department Staff. Masato Arakawa/Ryo Aoki & Kume (C): KAREN Jo Sawashiro (UP): Hourly Supervisor & Training. Technically has the same job as Nishitani but he doesn’t even want to associate with this brown hair clown. But recently he has been upgraded to pay management and was more than willing to cut Ichiban’s pay off when he accidently spilled his coffee on him. (Chill, Jo! Is it even legal?!? Apparently, it is…) Taka The Striker (WC): Auto Care Center Main Manager Yumeno (C): Karen Reina (WC): Cashier Hamako (WC): Senior Cashier
Judgement/Lost Judgement/Judge Eyes
Tumblr media
Yagami and Sugiura (C): they came only to buy a bag of chips and move on with their life but they are stuck waiting to checkout and it takes forever. For some reason, everyone that day filled their cart to feed the entire population of china.
Minami, Akutsu, Kaito (WC): Stock Clerk who is always late (or don’t even come) when someone call his department. Spends most his time chatting and smoking. Get to work when the boss or supervisor is near.
Tsukumo (WC): Data Entry Clerk
Higashi (WC): Electronic Department Staff
Mafuyu (WC): Beauty & Health Department Staff
Saori-San (WC): Cashier that covertly hate her job
Awabe (WC): Overnight Stock Clerk
Kengo (WC): shopping cart attendant
Sawa-Sensei (WC): Cashier
Kazuki Soma (CE): Investor. While nobody really knows where he stands or where his interested for the company comes. Rumors says he is an old supervisor but nobody ready really knows. Gets along well with Shimano and was able to conclude all types of deals with him like in exchange of generous “donations’” they could redirect some of the employees to work in his company. Some believe, him and Shimano use the grocery store for money laundering.

What is Digital marketing and how can we earn from it?
According to me I can offer valuable insights into the field and lucrative earning opportunities. Digital marketing involves promoting products, services, or brands through various online channels, including websites, social media, search engines, email, and mobile apps. Here are some strategies and examples that are working well for freelancers in the digital marketing industry:
Content Creation and Marketing: Content remains king in digital marketing, and freelancers can capitalize on this by offering content creation services such as blog writing, article writing, video production, and infographic design. High-quality, engaging content helps businesses attract and retain customers while improving their search engine rankings.
Example: A freelance writer specializing in technology creates informative blog posts and whitepapers for software companies, helping them establish thought leadership in their industry and drive organic traffic to their website.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO): SEO is essential for businesses to improve their visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs) and drive organic traffic to their websites. Freelancers can offer SEO services such as keyword research, on-page optimization, link building, and SEO audits to help clients rank higher in search engine rankings.
Example: An SEO specialist helps a local bakery optimize its website for relevant keywords such as "best cakes in [city]," resulting in increased online visibility and more foot traffic to the bakery.
Social Media Management: Many businesses struggle to effectively manage their social media presence. Freelancers can offer social media management services, including content creation, posting schedules, community engagement, and paid advertising campaigns, to help clients grow their social media following and drive engagement.
Example: A freelance social media manager helps a small business owner create and curate engaging content for their Instagram account, increasing brand awareness and attracting new customers.
Email Marketing: Email marketing remains one of the most effective ways to nurture leads, promote products or services, and maintain customer relationships. Freelancers can offer email marketing services such as email campaign creation, list segmentation, A/B testing, and performance tracking to help clients generate leads and drive sales.
Example: An email marketing freelancer designs and implements a series of automated email campaigns for an e-commerce retailer, resulting in higher open rates, click-through rates, and conversions.
Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Advertising: PPC advertising allows businesses to reach their target audience through targeted ads on search engines and social media platforms. Freelancers can offer PPC management services, including keyword research, ad creation, bid management, and performance tracking, to help clients maximize their return on investment (ROI) from PPC campaigns.
Example: A freelance PPC specialist helps a startup company launch and optimize Google Ads campaigns, driving qualified traffic to their website and increasing sales leads.
Affiliate Marketing: Freelancers can participate in affiliate marketing programs to earn commissions by promoting products or services through their website, blog, or social media channels. By partnering with companies as affiliates, freelancers can monetize their online presence and audience.
Example: A freelance blogger writes product reviews and tutorials on their website and includes affiliate links to recommended products, earning commissions for every sale generated through their affiliate links.

Larry Savage Birmingham About Logistics Challenges And How To Overcome Them
Logistics managers are now more aware of the need to obtain vital information instantly due to the pandemic. Additionally, it encouraged warehouse managers to be proactive in mitigating risks related to supply and demand. Today, machine learning software that analyzes real-time data can help prevent both overstock and out-of-stock. This is similar to IoT sensors assisting transportation businesses in tracking goods throughout the route. So, to learn more, read Larry Savage Jr Birmingham – Challenges That Necessitate The Need For An Organized Logistics Industry to level up your business performance.
Tumblr media
Strengthen communication at all levels
A vital component of surviving in business is anticipating logistical obstacles and knowing how to overcome them. You should include improving communication with the participants in your global supply chain in your planning. You might even wish to create connections with far-off logistical companies to increase your marketing reach if your company is local. In order to stay informed about the state of the resources supporting your products and market, it's critical to keep in constant contact with your suppliers.
Establish standards for suppliers and partners
If businesses follow different standards, it could confuse some of them when arranging many deliveries daily with several supply chain managers. Logistics operations are considerably more streamlined and coherent when every service follows the same loading and unloading procedures. Supply chain visibility can also be maximized for all participants in this coordination through smart technology and interconnected electronic networks.
Invest in the right technology
Companies today are also overspending on the latest software and hardware developments due to the quick changes in business technology. Spending less on technology to achieve maximum efficiency is now possible if you use cloud technologies.
If your business is operating on a tight budget, cloud services offer the most economical options. A warehouse might think about collaborating with logistics industry specialists if it needs additional flexibility, scalability, or experience.
Using third-party logistics providers to carry goods to markets is one way for businesses that can't afford to invest in creating a logistics service that makes use of automation, robots, and artificial intelligence.
Reduce warehouse management errors
An infrastructure's likelihood of errors decreases as it becomes more digital through automation or improved access to pertinent real-time data.
Adopting warehouse management software with integrations to new and innovative technologies like 5G, AI, and IoT has become crucial in this century. You can use these technologies to gather and archive important logistics data.
Proper placement of warehouse inventory products is also crucial to avoid a cascade of disruptions.
Then, to prepare items for delivery, they must be carefully chosen and packed. Incomplete orders and incorrect delivery information are two common order fulfillment mistakes that still happen. Warehouse managers can effectively decrease these errors by using more vigilant supervision and enhanced picking and packing confirmation protocols.
Final thoughts
In the future, meeting customer needs will be the hardest task for the logistics industry. So, improving warehouse structure and layout by analyzing logistics will help you. Lastly, don’t read Larry Savage Birmingham — Know About The Basics Of Stock Options Trading to keep your fortunes thriving.

AI doesn’t have to be the enemy: Future-Proofing your Art Career Part 3
Tumblr media
AI art, very appropriately named “Conversation with the Demon”
This is part 3 of my AI art series, originally posted on Christophercant.com.  If you aren’t caught up, here’s Part 1: AI is coming, and here’s Part 2: How to Compete against AI.
For the past few months, if you only sat in certain parts of the twittersphere, you might be led to believe that AI is an aberration, come to rob us of our jobs and our meaning, and slowly replace all of human creativity with homogenous grey sludge.
And if you've read my previous articles about AI art, you might think I share that opinion.
But I can see some ways that AI might actually be able to help us artists - and not in a painful compromise, but in a liberating way.
No, I'm not talking about generating AI artwork and painting over it. If that's what you want to do, knock yourself out.
I’m talking to the people who want to paint for a living, who want to spend their day drawing, and feel like their dream has just dissolved in front of their eyes.
Because I want to paint, and I have dreams, and I’m not ready to drop them.
“Just paint over AI art”
Alright, I‘m going to have to address this straight away.  Perhaps it’s a serious suggestion to learn how to write good prompts for AI art generators, correct the mistakes, and sell the results to clients.
So let’s look at what I think painting over AI art for a living would look like:
Many projects utilising AI art will only require a single human artist, so you are a one-person department.  You meet with the other departments to discuss what art is required for the project.
You write a little description of the content you want to generate, and feed that into the AI. The AI spits out some images and then you tell it what it misunderstood, got wrong, or should adjust.  The AI tries again with these new parameters; repeat this until you decide that the AI can’t get closer to what you want, and you take the best version of the art into Photoshop or whatever software you diddle about with.
Tumblr media
Saving loads of time by generating some AI art and painting over it! Weeeeee!
You present the finished art to the rest of the team, and help it get integrated into the project properly.
For many projects the art will be complete within just a few months, so your part in the project ends and you hop to another project, and do it all again.
Did you spot the part where the artist gets to make art?  The AI makes 90% of the artistic compositional choices, and you only actually put on your artist hat when the AI fucked something up - which will be less and less often, as the AI improves and you get better at ordering it about.
The rest is management - you’re not an artist, you’re a manager.  You’re outsourcing the art to a robotic freelancer.  The closest you might be able to call yourself is an Art Director.
There will be very little of you in generated art, very little of your perspective, of your personality and your narrative, of the stories you tell with your art.
If you want to do that, knock yourself out - but my dreams don’t look like this.
But how else can artists benefit from AI then?
Since AI is great at doing a single task very efficiently, it’s specialists that are the ones threatened by it - if you perform like a robot, you’ll get replaced by one - and that includes digital artists.
In truth, we are all probably going to have to shift toward the manager role and outsource tasks to AI to stay employed, but you don't have to outsource your art.
Outsource the rest.
If you’re employed as an artist then your art is part of a product pipeline, and there are multiple other components required to create the finished product besides your art. Use AI to handle those other parts.  If you own and run the whole product pipeline, you’re no longer dependent on getting hired.
Don't replace yourself with AI; replace your employers with AI.
AI doesn’t only create digital art; it researches, writes, makes music, voice narration and sound effects, animates, codes, creates video, among a myriad more things yet to be revealed.
By leveraging AI, you’ll be able to build much larger projects than just the individual pieces of visual media you can create as a lone artist.  Animations, comic books, card games and illustrated novels all become much easier with some AI employees. Feature-length films and massive videogames made by a single creator will become commonplace.
Tumblr media
Dust: An Elysian Tail, made by 1 developer, Dean Dodrill, in 2012.  Expect to see projects like this happen a lot more with AI on the scene.
The necessary tools are appearing already
We already know about the AI art tools, and I’m sure all of us are familiar with ChatGPT by now and the sorts of things it can do - basically, if you want to write anything, it’ll help you get it done.
There are other tools showing up that can simplify the majority of the product pipeline - from concept, to production, to marketing, to customer support.
Here’s a recent video by entrepreneur Alex Hormozi, talking about AI tools he may be able to integrate into his business, reducing workload or offering new angles for content production:
youtube
His video is a little gimmicky, and I'm not convinced he plans on actually adopting any of those particular tools into his business, but it does demonstrate the potential use cases of AI when running a business.
From making art to making complete products
As an example closer to home, let’s ponder fantasy and science fiction artists and how AI might be able to help them.  If they are being employed by a company to make art, usually their art is some part of a film, video game, pen and paper game, board games, card game, illustrated book, or a book cover.
AI will probably be able to reduce your workload in every phase of making each of those products.
Need to expand and polish your product’s concept?  ChatGPT is actually alright for bouncing ideas off and doing basic research, and a similar AI called Jasper.ai is really, really good at riffing off of your inputs and going in wacky, unexpected directions.  I bet all text AIs are decent at it.
Need to produce a hell of a lot of writing or coding for your product?  ChatGPT can handle that too.
If you haven't tried out chatGPT yet, it's actually interesting to play with and find its limits, and there are ways it can help you that don't feel like you're secretly just ripping plagiarised content from some poor writer struggling to make ends meet.
Need to create animated characters from your artwork?  Here's a video of someone quickly mapping a 2d portrait onto a fully rigged 3D model and using their phone’s camera to animate it:
youtube
If you’re open to the idea, and I get it if you aren’t, you could train an image AI on your art, to produce more work in your style you can utilise in your project.  I’m not sure where I sit with that particular use case, but it will be possible.
I've not tried it yet, but I expect you'll be able to use AI to test out game mechanics very efficiently, much more efficiently than playtesting every idea.
And of course there are AI to generate sound effects, music and other audio.
Marketing
If being a professional artist was a pie, then making art would be one half of that pie, with a tasty fruit filling.  Apple and cinnamon or something.  Marketing would be the other half, filled with shit.  Currently if you want to be a successful artist you have to eat that whole pie, shit and all, but with AI we might be able to get it to handle a lot of marketing for us, reducing the amount of shit left on our plate.
Creating articles and YouTube videos is a great way to generate long term passive traffic for your projects, and ChatGPT is also great at helping with those, whether it's helping you do research, plan a script, or provide alternative ways to phrase something.
Tumblr media
It’s also great at covering its ass!
It's also a dab hand at writing good copy to accompany your products and help you get sales, and can easily shorten whole ideas into short, snappy tweets.  And if English isn't your first language, it's really good at translating and fixing mistakes.
QuillBot is also fantastic at helping you rephrase your writing, and I’ve used it to summarise things I’ve written, expand my notes into fuller paragraphs, simplify the language, and to add creative flair to the fictional stories I’ve been writing now and then (no, nothings public yet).
Tumblr media
I came across MeetEdgar a couple of years ago, a social media scheduler that parses through blog posts on your site, pulls out snippets of text and images, and schedules them to be posted to your social media accounts at the times your account gets the most engagement.  All you need to do is confirm you are happy with its plan.
Tumblr media
I only tested it out briefly when I found it, but I’ve dug it out again recently with the intent of using it properly, now that I’m relying on articles a lot more than I was at the time.
This is by no means an exhaustive list, but I'm going to be searching for more of these tools and compiling a portfolio of similar software, and sharing my findings with you guys.
Using apps like these, and the ones yet to be created, you'll be a one-man creative force.  You'll just need a vision, a passion for making art, and the willingness to manage your AI workforce.
The possibilities for a single entrepreneurial mind will go exponential - sat by yourself in your bedroom, you’ll have the creative potential of a whole studio.
The rise of the solo-preneur
As far as I can tell, the ‘solo-preneur’ is going to be the future of many creative professions.  In many ways it’ll be the best avenue for digital artists, as being employed as an artist becomes less and less viable.
In the wider world, many artists already are solo-preneurs; oil painters selling their work in galleries, YouTubers and streamers sharing their expertise and insights, T-shirt illustrators, Skillshare teachers, Patreon…
Freelancers and employed artists are probably going to have to go join them.  Hopefully AI will be able to help us get there, without it poisoning the very markets we are trying to enter.
Of course, you'll have to learn a little about many disciplines - enough to be able to spot shortcomings in the various AI outputs and improve them, but if you really want to make this career work it'll be a small price to pay.
At the risk of coming across venomous, even with the potential of AI at people's fingertips, most won't make anything with it.  Most people just want to seek comfort and consume media; only the few are driven to create, even when it’s made extremely easy for the many.
So while I’ve made fun of AI art a little bit during this post, I would advise you not to ignore AI completely and to keep an eye on the tools that appear.  They may help you stay competitive, and even ahead of the curve, moving forward.
If you combine your genuine passion and enthusiasm for creating art, with AI tools to handle other parts of your business, you may end up living that dream you wanted for yourself.
Perhaps the AI future isn’t as scary as it might seem
I can’t really give you a spot-on plan to prepare for what’s coming.
It's hard to predict exactly how AI will be applied in the future and what it will be capable of, as we are probably near the beginning of this thing.  It's simply too hard, and I’m not informed enough, to guess what tools might appear.
But I’m pretty sure that now is the time to think big.  AI is going to simplify many tasks, and drastically reduce the manpower required to make large scale products.  If you aren’t thinking big by then, you’re going to be left behind.
You’re going to have to generalise your skills a bit and learn to plan larger projects, but you’ll still be able to concentrate on your art and make it the unique centrepiece of the things you make.  Think something like 80% art, 20% other crap.
If that sounds a bit like a shitty deal, I can tell you that I’ve purposely generalised my skills a bit in the last few years, and I actually enjoy myself more now.
I used to just paint fantasy and mythology imagery.  I chose to generalise by learning to write and web design, but as it turned out I use both of those new skills to celebrate my love of art, fantasy and mythology even further by building complete websites and products.
My love for art and fantasy now feels even deeper, and my expertise in them much more rounded - much fuller.
I feel like I’m working on more important things now, because of their scale and ambition, and their potential impact - and this was recently made much more plausible with AI assistance.  I might have to pivot a few times as things develop, but I think there's a viable path forward.
I get it if you're feeling cynical about all of this.  If you feel like the career you were looking forward to has been snatched away from you, I empathise with you. I’ve felt the same way a few times in the last 6 months.
I genuinely wish you the best of luck and I hope you don’t give up - there will always be a way to live as a full-time artist, and I hope you continue to pursue that dream, no matter the obstacles that appear in front of you.
Your humanity will act as a beacon to draw people in, and your perseverance will keep them inspired and invested.
This was going to be the last article in this little AI series, but I’ve realised I need to write one last article after this, and perhaps the most important - “Dont give up”, coming soon.
