Did this about two years ago. I haven't drawn these two Hornets in quite some time, and I really needed to get back into drawing living machines, especially of the one who started this whole thing off. I posted my first artwork of Lily in late November of 2017; it's been a while since then and she's certainly changed a bit.

Sorry Disney, you're not getting your plane man back anytime soon. And by sometime soon I mean never, because Lily isn't going to let go easily.

This was drawn for Trans Awareness Week because both Dexter and I are trans men, and I thought he'd be more than eager to show his pride. Most of my characters are part of the LGBTQ+ community, both in terms of sexuality and gender identity, sometimes both.

Dex is quite vocal about his support for the trans community, and so is Lance. The Hornet was a little confused initially, but he's certainly the most open and adorably curious person Dex has ever met and throws his full support behind his partner whenever he can.

Two key characters in Avelina Sokolova's story. Ivan is Joseph's friend, having known the MiG-25 since they were both quite young. He acted as an "uncle" to Ava and was very close to the family. He was the only person outside of Joseph and Sophie to know of the young girl's existence. Ava saw him as an uncle and saw him as family, which greatly helped in earning her trust after her parents "mysteriously" died while she was young. He is much more of a realist than Gvozdić and far better at dealing with people. He's very cunning, cruel and manipulative, though fantastic at gaining people's trust with his outwardly pleasant and calming demeanour. Avram is a scientist who later developed an interest in designing weapons and is a subordinate to Ivan Volkov. He is quite a skittish individual and usually likes to be left alone. Although his true motivations have never been clear, it's safe to assume he finds great enjoyment in figuring out how things work, including living organisms. He doesn't see Ava as a living being, rather, a science experiment he can pull apart and put back together, over and over again.

Many of my older characters are currently going through some updates to their designs and/or backstories, these two included. Bit of a Romeo and Juliet situation as it was during the height of the Cold War that these two fell in love and had a child, keeping that child's birth a secret because they were worried something might happen to her (which did eventually happen, but not in the way they ever expected).

Personality: Lance is complex. Not everyone will get to know the same Hornet. On the surface, he's ruthlessly efficient at getting jobs done with military precision and strives to push himself to do better and work harder, although he can unknowingly come off as a bit too aggressive when he puts his mind to something. He has a brutal honesty to him and isn't afraid to say it how it is, which can come in handy in situations that require it. While a very stoic man on the outside, that doesn't mean he can't feel pain and sorrow, he just buries it deep down under a rough exterior. He may struggle to show emotion at times, but his loyalty is unmatched. Lance doesn't let many people see the softer side to him, mostly because he's afraid he'll be left heartbroken again. Once he does let down his walls though, he cares for you unconditionally, whether you're a friend, family, or a lover. Deep down, he's a gentle, kind, considerate and surprisingly affectionate guy who would go to the ends of the earth for those he truly cares about. Another side to him is a little more charismatic. Lance is a total charmer, there's no doubt about it. He certainly knows how to sweep someone off their feet with his soft, crooning voice or a subtle wink. Hobbies/Interests: Working out, playing guitar, singing, drawing. Likes: Horses, cooking, fishing, his family, challenging himself. While standing far taller than the average F/A-18 Hornet, he is also very solid, with his build consisting primarily of thick muscle, especially around his fuselage. Notable Features: Large scarring across left LERX, smaller scars and bullet wounds can be found all over his chest, sides and underbelly. Interesting Facts: • Growing up in rural Texas, Lance has always had a bit of an accent, though it becomes much thicker when he's tired, angry, stressed or excited. • He struggles greatly with severe depression and PTSD, both from the loss of his wife and son, and being forced to fight a MiG-29 to the death for his own slim chance of survival. Lance has spent many nights awake as the nightmares became borderline unbearable. • He doesn't do very well in situations where everything is completely out of his control. As a first-time parent during Evelyn's pregnancy, Lance was stressed out about practically everything. This started off as a joke, but I liked the sketches so much that I finished it. With Dexter being the sort to have basically no filter when he speaks, he gets quite a substantial shock when Lance says something out of nowhere that not even he could predict.

More drawings of my favourite character, this time with two different expressions he uses commonly. Lance is known for his almost trademark smirk, but he can pull off a very convincing "soft puppy look", even more than Dexter. He'll use those big blue eyes to get chin scratches and head pats. I like to imagine Lance is basically a giant golden retriever under all his stoicism - a ray of sunshine, silly, great with kids, a complete goofball half the time, and way too eager to talk about stuff that makes him happy. This man will do absolutely anything for his lover, just the most selfless, affectionate partner imaginable.

He'd probably wag his rudders if you petted his nose and called him a "good boy".

Personality: Dexter is a very upbeat and excitable individual, desperate to be the centre of attention and the life of the party at all times. Wild, flamboyant, rebellious and a huge flirt, he can be a little brash at times, though he generally doesn't mean any harm by it. But for his outgoing nature, Dexter surprisingly isn't much of a natural improvisor and will become quite flustered if someone does something he doesn't expect. He's known to be a persistent troublemaker, though this has gradually lessened as he has matured. Hobbies/Interests: Soccer, yoga. No one is sure exactly why his growth was stunted so significantly. Notable Features: Vitiligo on his nose and underside, becoming more solid the further back it goes. Interesting Facts: • He is bilingual, able to speak fluently in both English and Brazilian Portuguese. • He has got quite the foul mouth and generally isn't someone to think before he speaks. • Likes the colour pink, especially since it goes well with his grey livery. • Has a huge sweet tooth. He'll be your best friend if you buy him something with chocolate in it. • He is quite ticklish, particularly on his chest and stomach. • Favourite sleeping position is on his back with all three landing gear splayed out in different directions. • He is incredibly flexible compared to most other aircraft, hence why he took up yoga as a hobby.
