It looks like Gotchard is writing the Chemies as having distinct personalities and goals, even if it’s not really getting into each of their deals.

I’m guessing that’s why Rinne’s dad sent Hopper1 and Steamliner in particular to go Rider-scouting. He thinks that, of the duos that are eligible to make a base form, they’re the best judges of character/most heroic or reliable Chemies. (As opposed to someone like Skateboard-kun who perhaps might wander off to play.) Hopper1 does seem to have been that one heroic historical alchemist’s partner and they were dragging Hotaro off to fight the MOTW in episode two.

#personally i think steamliner would have considered rinne a good candidate #since their strategy seemed to be WHATS UP PUNY HUMANS WHOS GOT THE BACKBONE TO FACE ME!!! (and rinne does!)#but hopper1 was also screening for kindness and the right temperament and she didn’t get a shot to prove herself in that sense #and might not have made it since she comes off as more “responsible” than “heroic” at the moment
