In my personal opinion, I think that this is the superior title track by gg. Although this song was relased in 2010 still being one of the most famous songs in the kpop industry. I love gg so much, and the lyrics is so beautiful. TAEYEON VOCALS ARE AMAZING.

I perfectly can listen this song when i m happy, and when i am not, and this is the incredible thing with this one. Even when i am really bad, the melody and the jimin’s voice bring me peace and make me feel better, or make me feel worst lol. thank u jimin. (The “LET ME LOVE YOU” part, it is so perfect, i can not.)

Although YG is really bad with all his artists (especially with Winner), when he gives something to them, it’s really SOMETHING. I love Winner a lot, they never disappoint me, and this song is amazing. AH YEAH, it’s their last release and it continues with the theme that Winner handled in Millions. As always, Winner brings very catchy music, with repetitive choirs which always triumph. I love the cute concept that this comeback handles, and the colors of the mv.

First of all, Kpop is not just simply pop music, as the name suggests. Within the genre kpop are actually many different genres of music mingled and there’s something nice for (almost) everyone to find. I’ll give you some information about my favourite groups that might help you find what you could like. I will also link mostly title songs as they are the more popular songs and usually have a music video (kpop music videos are always very aesthetic btw).

Starting off with my ultimate favourite group Stray Kids. They are still rookies as they debuted in March 2018 but I’ve fallen in love with them and their music so much that I highly recommend you checking them out. They are a 9 member boy group with three of those members, Bang Chan, Changbin and Han (knowns as 3RACHA) writing and composing all of their songs. 3RACHA has been releasing pre-debut mixtapes on Souncloud throughout 2017 and if you like hip hop/rap music, you should definitely give them a listen. The three leaders also created a SVT Leaders unit for their song Change Up. They mainly release ot13 songs with one of their members, called Woozi, being the main composer but they also released songs in their respective units. Some recs are:

Mmmm I think neopotism babies (though that isn’t the right word here. They just have rich families lol) are way more of a third and fourth gen thing? With the first gen, it was super looked down to be a kpop idol so a rich family would be way less inclined to let their child go off and do it. I think second gen it was more seen as a way to make money. Off the top of my head Sunmi has talked about becoming and idol to be able to pay bills and I know other second geners have said similar but I can’t remember who now.

It wasn’t until third gen I think when being an idol became more lucrative rich families would want their kids to do it. And now that we’re in fourth and fifth gen (gag) only rich families *can* do it practically.

again 2nd gen is not my area of expertise so idk! i can only speak on 3rd/4th gen and i agree its a spread concept nowadays lol

but logically speaking being an idol is lucrative when u get really famous bcs u first have to pay back ur company for the training and other loans so i dont think any family who was on the verge of bankruptcy would let their kids throw away their academic future for a shot at such a hard dream if u dont have financial contingency plans 🤷🏻‍♀️ not saying its not possible but i think a lot of trainees have always been on the wealthier side, both now and then (at least the ones who became trainees as kids and had to halt their education) (again this is just logically speaking, im not saying there cant be exceptions)

i have recs!!! first of all ty for asking me abt it hdgfs !! i’ll make u a list !! i will try to stay concise but i have bolded n linked the most important stuff since i tend to blabber a lot! there r groups i purposely didnt recommend! also! i advise you to look up who did what if you want to know why idcs abt certain artists that r big in kpop (like big//ba//ng, su//ju, bl//ock//b, ma//ma//moo & so on) tl;dr: kpop basics (spotify) + @tearera (my kpop sb)

i’ll start w some RECS but jsyk kpop as u might have heard of it is mainly composed of groups! which is why i’ll start w groups then soloists! of course u can check out most of them on spotify (u can listen to their playlist of the most famous songs atm!). please notice that the kpop industry is very ‘classic’ when it comes to concepts (cute r for gorls! badass r for boys!) so um. yeah. yikes. if i had to argue abt all the things i find wrong in this industry this post would become a manifesto, u can always pm me if u want to hear me complain lmao

GIRL GROUPS

honestly…. TWICE are the first one that came to my mind when i thought of ggs to rec. they’re a 9 member group labelled under jyp entertainment n have debuted in 2015 with the bop like ooh aah… that u can listen to! their genre is mainly cute songs but dont be fooled!! they have extremely powerful songs & lyrics as well! some good starts with their music are LIKEY (2017, a bop, great melody, great rapping, one of their ult feel good songs, played @ the olympics), TT (2016, queens of halloween!), and also their most recent song WHAT IS LOVE (2018, iconic!! gay!! bop!! sweet!! great album!!). as twice are the kind that can set you off by their cuteness and playful vibes, i recommend you to check out some of their side tracks. personality wise, the girls r very fun and sweet! they’re all angels and i love them all THIS MUCH!! if u want to know, sana & dahyun r my favourite members!

also queens, but from sm entertainment this time, Red Velvet are a 5 member gg who have debuted in 2015 with the song Happiness (at that time they were only 4 but the youngest member, Yeri, joined later on!). some very famous songs of theirs are… basically all their title tracks but i’d mainly recommend Russian Roulette, Dumb Dumb (also my fave rv music video!!), Peek-a-boo (what’s better than lesbians witches slaying men and eating pizza), Bad Boy (honestly… one of their best songs… title track of their repackaged album…good shit if u will). of course! there are some side tracks i will recommend! i will frankly say that i listen to a lot of their music and they’re my favourite musically! some faves in no particular order are automatic, cool hot sweet love, huff n puff, something kinda crazy, about love, kingdom come, little little and talk to me! they have very versatile genres and have two main themes of music, the red and the velvet, though these mix often! rlly! their music really good. they have amazing choreographies too!!!!

the third gg i will rec are one that have not debuted yet, it’s LOONA! get ready bc they are a 12 member group with one girl for every month. each girl was revealed every month staring from 2016 with a single album composed of one song and one side track that usually features another member! as this group has yet to debut, i cannot show you anything with all twelve members but! they work with units, there are three: loona 1/3, odd eye circle, and yyxy (tune in for their debut scheduled for may!) that each have an album. 1/3 r more of a cute girly concept, while odd eye circle have played strongly on the girl crush & rnb concept. we have yet to see what yyxy has for us n im frankly v excited!!! my fave singles are Around You (hyunjin), Let Me In (haseul), Singing in the rain (jinsoul, best girl), Eclipse (kim lip), and Heart Attack (by chuu!! also best girl). they have already released a lot of music so go ahead & listen to it! their music videos have a plot and it’s one of those theories fandom (loonaverse)! the positions that all the members will have wasn’t been revealed yet!

then here’s a list of ggs that’s not as detailed bc it would be too long: clc (they r…the girls….), exid (vocals, social criticism, sexy), blackpink (5 songs out but theyre all top notch), f(x) (v good music! bring them back from the war), gfriend (cute & refreshing concepts! v tight choreographies! sweet girls!), aoa, & many more! groups i dont rec bc i dont stan but that u should know of: snsd, 2ne1; that have disbanded but shouldnt have: sistar

BOY GROUPS

ok i stan two boy groups so that’ll be quick! i’ll also rec plenty of music!

the main group i stan is BTS aka the bangtan boys and yes… they’re everywhere… they deserve it tbh… so theyre a 7 member boy group and they’re the first kpop group i ever stanned! they have released a lot of songs already but i’ll just mark something! bts are known for their cinematography and plot in their music videos as well as their politically/socially engaged songs. they debuted in 2013 with the youth-conscious song no more dream and um. forget the mv. the message is what’s important. secondly! my favourite eps & albums are DARK&WILD (forget abt war of hormone), The Most Beautiful Moment in Life pt2, WINGS, and Love Yourself 轉 Tear (which will be released on May 18th so stay tuned!). here’s a beginner’s list to bts & their music videos: spring day, blood sweat & tears, run, fire, i need u, and intros: singularity, serendipity. i cannot recommend bts songs bc i’d be unable to pick some, but here is my bangtan favourites playlist and spotify’s This Is BTS! n their most known song atm, still on charts, DNA. another thing!! they dabble in a lot of genres! there is a constant symbolism in most of their songs and music videos, which is why there are theories! also, here are my fave choreos (x x x) & non-official releases (x x x)! also! j-hope recently released a mixtape! check it out! it’s v good! the bad thing is that the fandom is massive n it is filled with young fans so a lot of fan-created content is cringey. apart from that! theyre lovely as a band n i’m not ashamed to say that they bring me most of my joy these days!

then there is… NCT. ok, let’s dive into them. nct is the acronym for Neo Culture Technology, they’re currently an 18 member boy group but hey! don’t be scared! they too work in units and have only released one song which features all 18 of them! it is likely that the band will expand later on & that the name NCT will become a brand (like akb48 u know). so far! there are three units! NCT DREAM (based on age, with the youngest members who r still minors), NCT U (the first unit to have debuted, aka nct united, a rotative unit with no fixed genre or members list) and NCT 127 (seoul based unit, fixed, with 9 members). they’re known for their experimentative and diversified sound, which goes from ballads to… this. while each unit have their distinct genre and vibe, they’re all under the same label of nct! and um, check out spotify’s nct playlist if u want! here r some songs that are basics! bolded r the faves! jsyk i hated their music & their clothes @ first bc it’s so unique so dw if u dislike them!

the last group i’ll present in length n that u should know about is SEVENTEEN. they’re a 13 member boy group & work in units as well but mainly promote w all the members! they’re the fun, sweet, talented, heartfelt refreshing boys we all love tbh! so! seventeen debuted in 2015 with the bop adore u and since then it’s been great song over great song… they also have great choreos! they’re the easiest group to listen to imo bc their songs are mostly light and very similar to what you can hear on teen top radios! then, they get stuck in your head very easily! here are some songs u can listen to that will make your day! mansae, very nice, pretty u, clap, don’t wanna cry, change up, n there are many more! some of my faves are when i grow up, trauma, still lonely, rocket, crazy in love, lean on me, and uhgh rlly all of their songs tbh! three units better known as teams: hip-hop, performance and vocal, with a leader in each. they put up great performances!!

then there is shinee, mostly nicknamed the kings of kpop, i’d make a very long desc but! i suggest you to see for yourself as the fandom is v helpful!

here are some boy groups that i rec but wont go in length with: pentagon (i stan!), monsta x (edm, powerful dances), shinee, exo (great vocals, great choreos, v good music), astro (bubblegum but v heartwarming! vocals), day6 (rock band, great songs), wanna one & many more! rlly um bgs arent the thing that’s lacking in kpop!

a bit in the middle: KARD (mixed group!!! great music & genderless, breaking the usual hardcore is for boys & cutesy is for girls concept)

more of a solo person? check out artists like hyuna (ex member of both wonder girls & 4minute), iu, heize (a personal fave!), sunmi (ex member of wonder girls), taemin (member of shinee), amber liu (current member of fx! also released a mixtape recently!) hyolyn or dean… tbh there r many! these r just the ones i can think off the top of my head! theyre honestly easy to listen to so just look up their names on yt & u should find some good things!

“What do you think of Kim Taehyung,” your friend Sunmi asks you. Tilting your head in thought, you swirl the contents of your red solo cup gently and roll the question around in your head.

The young man in question is standing at the opposite end of the frat basement you’ve been dragged to, playing a raucous game of foosball with his friends Park Jimin and Kim Namjoon. He’s smiling that famous, boxy grin of his, showing of teeth that are white and even. The strong and sharp curve of his jawline is also on display from where you’re leaning against the wall. When he scores a goal, he throws his head back and gives what can best be described as a roar.

“Hey! You heard me, right?” Sunmi nudges you in the ribs with a pointy elbow and you hiss before rubbing the spot tenderly.

“He’s fine,” you grumble back. You can feel Sunmi giving you a blank stare. She doesn’t believe you.

“I don’t believe you.”

“What do you want me to say? He’s just a little sophomore.”

“Oh please, you and I both know that he’s not your average underclassman. He’s even friends with Seokjin. Plus, he looks like a model and he gets more ass than some of the seniors on this campus. More than you too,” she says, counting each statement off on her fingers.

“He’s still a sophomore,” you say, although you can’t deny anything Sunmi just said. At that same moment, Taehyung turns and catches your gaze and holds it. Your cheeks heat up when his friends follow Taehyung’s line of sight to you. They jeer and say something that was probably lewd based on the way Taehyung snaps and reaches to put Jimin in a headlock.

“He likes you, you know. He told me at the swim meet a few weeks ago. And I know you like him. Just admit it.”

Sunmi’s words don’t surprise you. You had a very strong hunch that Kim Taehyung was crushing on you. He was always lingering next to your easel in painting class and always looking away with rosy cheeks when you caught him staring.

“But he’s so young. It’s weird,” you bury your head in your hands.

“God, you act like you’re 50 years old or something. You’re only in your early twenties, and so is he. You’re not preying on him. It’s not weird!”

“Yeah it is,” you gripe, “You know why? Because guys like him give off two very conflicting vibes. The first says ‘Wow, look at this handsome young man. I hope my kids are that beautiful’. The second says, ‘Wow, I want to have his kids’. That’s weird, Sunmi.”

“You’re thinking about this too much. It’s not weird, that’s a shitty excuse. You’ve been brainwashed into thinking that it’s only okay for men to date people younger than them.” It’s your turn to glare at her.

“Sounds like you didn’t drop that Introductory Feminism course after all,” your voice overly saccharine. She rewards your sass by sticking out her tongue.

“You’re being ridiculous. You guys like each other, you’re both consenting adults. It’s so gross watching him try to impress you and you try not to look impressed. If you don’t do anything, I will.”

She narrows her eyes at you and you take a step back to mirror the look back at her. “You wouldn’t dare. I’m your ride home.”

“Namjoon will give me a ride back.” She turns on her heel, long hair swinging behind her, leaving you by the wall to gape like a fish. You didn’t think she would actually do anything. Your friendship was full of poking at one another with empty threats. Why the hell did it have to be real this time?

You watch as Sunmi taps Taehyung on the shoulder and gestures to where you’ve been lurking. He looks back up at you and smiles shyly. You send him a warning glare and he smiles wider. Suddenly you’re feeling thirsty and decide to take the long way back to the bowl of spiked punch. You let the crowd of dancing bodies swallow you up and fill your cup to the brim before chugging most of it in one gulp. Someone taps your shoulder and you turn around on instinct but regret it immediately.

“Hi.” Taehyung’s voice is much deeper than you remembered and you realize he’s also bigger than you expected when you peer up at him. He doesn’t seem as young somehow. “Sunmi said I should ask you to dance. Do you want to dance?”

“I can’t dance,” you say quickly.

“You can’t dance?” You shake your head immediately, desperate for the conversation to end so you can drive home and eat your feelings.

“So, that wasn’t your center stage solo at the fall dance showcase?” Shit. You think you feel the tell-tale prick of sweat at the back of your neck.

“It was,” you admit stiltedly, having been caught in a lie, “I meant...I don’t want to dance.”

“You don’t want to dance, or you don’t want to dance with me?”

“I don’t want to dance with you. Nothing personal. I just don’t fraternize with freshmen.” You pick at an invisible loose thread on your skirt instead of looking at him.

“I’m a sophomore.”

“Good for you,” you sniff.

Taehyung’s standing close enough that you can smell his cologne. It’s a clean smell that reminds you of clear, dark blue water. It has you a little woozy. Or maybe that’s the punch. Either way, you stick your hand out for balance and end up bracing yourself on his shoulder. A large warm hand winds itself around your waist and he chuckles in your ear.

“Easy there,” he smiles down at you softly, long lashes framing his big, pretty eyes. He raises an eyebrow as you continue to drink in his features, his thumb rubbing idle circles against the swell of your hip. Your expression becomes resolute as you grab his hand and lead him up the stairs and outside the party.

“Where’s your room,” you ask once you’re crossing the foyer.

“We gonna have a sleepover?” He ogles your figure in an easy way and you have to stop yourself from smiling. You drop his hand and turn to raise an expectant eyebrow at him. He bites down on his tongue to keep a cheeky grin from spreading.

“Third floor, second door on the right.”

Sunmi watches from her seat on Namjoon’s lap from across the room. She nearly cackles at your frightened expression when Taehyung walks up behind you at the punch bowl. Squinting, she leans forward to read your lips and can see you say the word freshman.

“Come on, don’t be a bitch,” she whispers, almost falling if not for Namjoon’s sudden grip on her elbow.

Sunmi sees Taehyung inch closer as you wobble, having drank too much at the pregame in your shared apartment and in the frat basement. He whispers something with his arm wrapped around you. She smiles fondly at your reaction, her heart warming for you a little as you peer up at him. There’s an amazed expression on your face, your infatuation clear as day. Once you retreat from the basement with Taehyung trailing eagerly behind, she turns around to face Namjoon with a smug smile tugging at her lips.

“You owe me a term paper.”

“You got a text.” Taehyung’s voice rouses you out of the cat nap you were taking. With eyes still closed, you roll over and prop yourself up on him to grab at your phone on the nightstand.

Upon entering his room, you had kicked off your heels and immediately began to whine about how your feet were killing you and you were freezing in your mini dress. Now, he admires how soft you look in the large threadbare sweatshirt you borrowed from him. The stretched neckline drops off one shoulder to reveal what will become a very noticeable hickey in the morning while the bunched up boxers you borrowed display similar bruises already marring the skin of your inner thighs and hips. His own back looks no better, striped with light pink raised lines from when you’d raked your nails down the length of his spine and a pretty shadow of your lipstick staining his cheeks, chest, and stomach.

You snort and turn your phone to show him the text you got from Sunmi. It reads:
