Being a person with anxiety and probably autism I have “internal scripts” for when I go around speaking to people.
I recently started working at an independent drink shop and I have ended up unwittingly creating a consistent script for interactions.
My script has put “have a good rest of your day” as the good bye message for someone leaving the shop, but there seems to be a bug in the code when there is a group leaving…
I end up saying “have a good rest of your days” and that sounds ominous and I only realize I say it after it comes out of my mouth.
I must sound like the boba shop reaper or something

I was wondering when it started trending on here why the name "Nimona" was ringing so many bells

Retail is fun because sometimes you'll have to leave the register for 15 seconds to get water (no food or drink allowed at the register 😀), but doing this will piss off a customer so much that they curse and storm out of the store without purchasing anything

Worked at a Walmart in Utah for 4ish years. In the Pet Department/ And to keep my sanity, and not kill annoying customers... I doodled. They gave us convenient slips of paper for making claims, that also was a great travel size for doodles. And my fellow co-workers appreciated the funny doodles. And sometimes including them in them since the scene had them in it too. The above two, are me showing photographic evidence that these moments actually happened. While the top is a side to show the scene. The photo was what I actually took and then made a comic out of. The second, was me wandering by a neighboring section, the toy aisles, and came across this. And well, had to take a photo. The stories I have... Some are wild XD Though I really need to get back to posting the rest of them, on a website for comics I put together. But it's woefully un-updated. Though, if interested, you can check it out here.

While working at Wal-Mart yesterday, I suddenly heard a man loudly exclaiming several obscenities. I am not exaggerating when I say that he sounded so enraged and aggressive that I genuinely thought a fight was breaking out and that cops were gonna have to be called. However, when I looked in the direction of the yelling, it turned out that the guy was just...expressing frustration at the bags sticking! And as if that subversion wasn't already hilarious enough, I then saw him turn to a sweet looking old lady with him, who I believe was his mother, and sheepishly apologize for his language! 😆

Tales from Retail
My coworker and I were talking about the fnaf movie and how we were excited about the actors and what we hoped might happen in the movie. But they then said couldn't remember what the lore was and wanted me to explain it.
Big mistake.
I tried my best but i then realized how many retcons and book related plot points that contradict the game lore there were and I only had like 5 minutes left on my lunch that I gave up and said:
"Look all you need to know is that William Afton aka purple fucker is an immortal furry and Scott Cawthon came up with an in canon scientific explanation for the supernatural, the lore is bullshit."

Sometimes working retail is so worth it
Like your regulars being kids that you can goof off with
I just watched one of the kids while her mom went to the bathroom and this kid was chewing on a candycane and told me to eat it
Her: eat!
Me: no that's been in your face hole >:0
Her: eat!! *she's chewing on it*
Me: how about I get my own and you run the bakery for a bit
Her: hmmmmmmnmmm.... Deal!
She wore my bakers hat until her mom got back

Batshit crazy ooc things I heard various customers say today:
1: “Yep, she was caught stealing money from the church. Should’ve been more careful-“
2:  “So there was too much evidence I had to hide so I tried to—“ *cut off by the woman turning off speaker phone*
 3: “SWIGGITY” *dances*

my first time on the cash register and my first customer was a cranky older man who was worried about his data getting stolen and kept insisting he's paying in gold. Seemed like a credit card to me. When I joked it's like before 1971 (when the US went from the gold standard to fiat standard) he thought for a moment and then went "yes. exactly" in an extremely serious voice.

Working in retail during the holidays is truly a bizarre experience because your coworkers vary from sixteen year olds barely old enough to drive, to college students trying their best, to a seventy year-old woman yelling to a customer, “I’m gonna hit you over the head with this charcuterie board, you big dick!”

So I don't normally do this....
However I work retail and after the night I had I would like to share as a reminder to please be kind to staff. Let me set the scene the time is 10:59, the store has made a page over the intercom. "Attention (RETAIL STORE) customers the time is 10:59p.m. our store closes at 11p.m. please get your last remaining item and come to the front to check out." Now some key facts, sometimes we turn the registers from cash and card to card only mode to help when it's time to run the reports, also in case the machine gets a bill jam and we have no one to unjam it as we really lack staffing some days. About a minute later Customer comes up to me and asks me where an item is and makes it out like he has a bunch of stuff to grab and the store closes at 11 and they start shutting registers down and even if they don't shut them down fully they switch them to cards only mode for the purpose of sales reports. I tell him we start shutting stuff down and he might not be able to pay. While we have several entrances in our store after 10p.m. only one entrance is open for customer use and it is the one furthest from where I was. From roughly 10:45 onward the store makes pages every few minutes explaining when we close. So this he goes gets told the same thing by 2 other associates, acts like he is going to leave but then comes back with a cashier, to help him find the item whilst I am talking to the boss because someone did something they should not have done in my area and start screaming at my boss not to trust HER, that I'm a lying piece of shit, and getting in my face. (I am trans but due to where I live as well as job climate i'm not out out, now I do wear a chest binder or sports bra's 2 at a time, I have mens glasses, men's pants, a men's shirt, and my hair is roughly an inch long at best.) How I was "Lying" technically I told him he might not be able to check out I never said he couldn't I said that around that time we start shutting stuff down so there's no guarantee he could but he was angry. He was screaming yelling and getting up in my business at which point a manager intervened and started like chasing him away from me whilst asking him "What did you say to her". At which point the customer started screaming at him/me and anyone who would listen that we were all about the lying sacks of shit that I was the biggest lying sack of shit, I was horrible a witch, just any insults he could hurl despite the fact multiple other employees told him the same thing I did. He is full on flailing his arms and angry ranting in all his middle aged white male glory as he is screaming but he has now directed his rage at my manager. So I moved and hid behind a display of sunscreen on the opposite side so he was on the left I was on the right, since he needed to walk past me to get out. I was trying not to cry whilst trying not to have a panic attack fearing he was going to hit and or hurt me as during these last few years my store has had a store shooting, multiple fist fights, and more. I am autistic and upset easily with loud/violent people, noises, fighting ect. My boss is trying to force the man out of the area and get him to leave and he is refusing to leave claiming he will not leave the fucking store, we can get fucked, fuck you he's not leaving. At one point every other word was fuck. Then when my boss is on either his phone or walkie he is telling people "I have a belligerent/violent customer refusing to leave." The customer starts screaming that he will not be shopping in our shithole of a fucking store.
The aftermath. I am a trembling mess trying not to cry because again I don't handle violence and noises IRL well. Especially not from a man who looked old enough to be my dad and he was over 6ft tall whilst i'm barely 5ft2. 10 to 15 minutes later two of my bosses come by and ask wtf was going on. I have to explain to them both why he was angry, what he was screaming at me as the one didn't hear all of it, and then I get told that he started screaming at the boss who was not helping run him off.

I took protected time off to get out early so I could get stuff done before finals week but they gave me my (shortened) lunch late so I only go back for like... an even shorter amount of time.
Oh boy can't wait to go back to work for *checks clock* 15 minutes

Customer: *holds out phone with a picture of a product* where do you have this cleaner?
Me, a retail worker: I'm sorry we don't carry that particular product in store.
Customer: But it says right here that it's in stock!
Me: Sir. That is a screenshot from Amazon.
