Wisdom dakinis, sky dancers, are the feminine embodiment of bliss and freedom that are at the essence of enlightenment. They can arise in any form, terrifying or stunningly beautiful, to aid tantric practitioners in cutting through their ego.
Dakinis will reveal that which you yourself are blind to and that which gets in the way of your path to truth.
All women are dakinis one way or another.
I rest within the one taste of the sphere of absolute being, the great female principle ♾️

Prajna Ocean Buddhist Art Centre Thangka Art
慧海佛教藝術中心唐卡工畫坊 :: [Red Pine (translator) :: Bill Porter (author)]

"The Buddha always told his disciples not to waste their time and energy in metaphysical speculation. Whenever he was asked a metaphysical question, he remained silent. Instead, he directed his disciples toward practical efforts. Questioned one day about the problem of the infinity of the world, the Buddha said, "Whether the world is finite or infinite, limited or unlimited, the problem of your liberation remains the same." Another time he said, "Suppose a man is struck by a poisoned arrow and the doctor wishes to take out the arrow immediately. Suppose the man does not want the arrow removed until he knows who shot it, his age, his parents, and why he shot it. What would happen? If he were to wait until all these questions have been answered, the man might die first." Life is so short. It must not be spent in endless metaphysical speculation that does not bring us any closer to the truth."
~ Thich Nhat Hanh with Philip Kapleau, 'Zen Keys'

A monumental Imperial silk brocade thangka of Mahakala, Yongle period
134 x 87 inches, 340 x 221 cm. Estimate: US$800,000-1,200,000.
Failed to sell Sotheby's, New York, 21 March 2024.
The textile was produced in the Imperial workshops of the Yongle Emperor (1360-1424) during his reign (1403-1424) as a gift to a high-ranking Tibetan lama and depicts Mahakala Panjarnatha.
If you want to look at a big image just copy the following into a new window:

I posted another artwork depicting Mahakala back in 2019. You'll find it by clicking any of the tags below. Again, you can look at a big image.

Thangkas of White Tara, Guru Rinpoche, Shakyamuni Buddha, and Chenrezig
"...the Peony has long been a deeply significant flower for Chinese culture (cultivated all the way back to 900 BC), and it’s also commonly known to the Chinese as the "Flower of Riches and Honor." It is common to see Peonies in paintings, ceramics and other household items in Asia.
Aside from the Lotus flower it is one of the most common flowers painted as a sacred offering flower in thangkas, or Tibetan paintings. It is commonly seen in Chinese, Korean and Japanese art as well."

The Green Tara (Sanskrit: Shyamatara; Tibetan: Sgrol-ljang) was believed to be incarnated as the Nepali princess. She is considered by some to be the original Tara and is the female consort of Amoghasiddhi, one of the “self-born” Buddhas. She is generally shown seated on a lotus throne with right leg hanging down, wearing the ornaments of a bodhisattva and holding the closed blue lotus (utpala).

There's no advantage in deceiving yourself. Good and bad are distinct. Cause and effect are clear. But fools don't believe and fall straight into a hell of endless darkness without even knowing it. ~ Bodhidharma

[Thangka art is not signed and the artists, sometimes working alone or sometimes in a small group or school, remain unknown. Some of their work takes years to complete. The staff atop an elephant, it is likely the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra (on many Zen altars, Manjushri and Samantabhadra are to either side of the Buddha)]

“So what will happen to your consciousness? Your consciousness, yours, not anyone else's. Well, what are you? There's the point. Let's try to find out. What is it about you that you have always known as yourself? What are you conscious of in yourself? Your kidneys? Your liver? Your blood vessels? No. However far back you go in your memory, it is always in some external active manifestation of yourself that you come across your identity—in the work of your hands, in your family, in other people. And now listen carefully. You in others—this is your soul. This is what you are. This is what your consciousness has breathed and lived on and enjoyed throughout your life—your soul, your immortality, your life in others. And what now? You have always been in others and you will remain in others. And what does it mater to you if later on that is called your memory? This will be you—the you that enters the future and becomes a part of it.”
― Boris Pasternak, Dr Zhivago
