CYD CHARISSE in ZIEGFELD FOLLIES (1945)
Ziegfeld Follies is the most enchanting film on earth. Have you seen it? My dreams are set on the same twinkling stage! The first scene is drenched in glittering pink and white, with a pinup pretty ballerina twirling amid dozens of beautiful girls riding around a carousel on live horses. Talk about decadence! Call me loopy, but I find it appaling that Hollywood can spend zillions of dollars on movies that never amount to half of one serving of Ziegfeld Follies! - DITA VON TEESE

An important undergraduate in the Ziegfeld Training School for nurses. She is here depicted as the nurse in the current Follies caricature of Mr. W. Shakespeare’s well-known five-reel heart-thriller—”Romeo and Juliet.” The age of the nurse is open to fair-minded criticism—but no word of carp or cavil could possibly be breathed in regard to her qualifications as a ministering angel. —Vanity Fair, August 1916
