Hailed as 'queercore's resident supergroup' by Alt Press, the HIRS Collective (pronounced 'heers') was founded in 2011 by Jenna Pup and Esem (vocalist and guitarist, respectively) and have since released 2 official studio albums: Friends. Lovers. Favorites (2018) and We're Still Here (2023), but have approximately 50 total releases. Both studios featured prominent artists from various queercore, rock, punk, and hardcore scenes, such as Shirley Manson (Garbage), Marissa Paternoster (Screaming Females), Frank Iero (My Chemical Romance, L.S. Dunes), Sadie Switchblade (G.L.O.S.S, Dyke Drama), Geoff Rickly (Thursday), and Laura Jane Grace (Against Me!). The group has no solidified lineup, and instead focuses on collaborations between artists and trans/queer-based politics in their lyricism.
This all tracks. I listened to a lot of The Hirs Collective. Only thing is I’m surprised Gillian Carter wasn’t number 2, but I also listen to The Armed a lot. Also surprised it didn’t give me some goofy made up genre. I can easily identify bands in these genre that I listen to.
Do people not listen to albums from start to finish? Unless I’m in a rush or just want to hear a certain song I’m listening to a whole album. Maybe I’m just old as shit.
Folks! My friends. Fine people of Tumblr. Metal and Punk enjoyers of all stripes. Boy do I have a fucking record for you. This one comes from Queer Power Violence Collective HIRS straight out of Philadelphia. This thing is so fucking good and oh my God is it just impressive song after impressive song and I mean that’s happens when you get some of the most talented artists in the scene to help. Hmm let’s see we got members from My Chemical fucking Romance, Soul-Glo, Melt-Bannana, Screaming Females, Converge, Thou, Full of Hell, uhh the fucking Body, Sunrot, Escuela Grind, GHÖSH, and that isn’t even EVERYONE!!!
Seriously this is like the fucking 1992 Men’s Olympic Basketball team. I mean this is a star studded affair baby. Fuck Hollywood. This is my tinsel town. This whole thing is a plodding epic of power violence, hardcore, Jesus some sludge, rapping. I mean what do you want? It’s got it baby. Definitely definitely definitely listen to this record. It just came out a few months ago and it’s been on repeat for me and it should be for you. How often does a group of incredibly talented artists come together to make something beautiful.
this show was an incredible one to witness. easily the smallest show ive ever been to, as there were about maybe 7 other ppl there in this tiny little hole-in-the-wall bar? but holy shit the vibes were immaculate about everybody was moshing for HIRS entire 20 minute short-yet-powerful set. throwing in old school queer bangers made this set super unique for grind! honestly probably the most fun set ive ever seen
