Sophie's breath caught with an audible hitch as Stina's warm hand brushed softly beneath her bottom lip. The wind picked up, blowing Stina's beautiful curls around like a dark mass of lovely brown hair.

Stina leaned in, her eyes darting somewhere else before returning to Sophie's eyes as Sophie seemed to move without thought. Her hand starting to reach for Stina's waist and her back as the taller girl pushed a playful lock of Sophie's hair back behind her ear. The sensation made Sophie shiver and her heart begin to pound in a way she hadn't felt in what was practically ages. This was familiar and yet new all at once.

Sophie attention was on Stina Heks and Stina Heks alone as the girl finally spoke.

"So," she shrugged, her eyes glancing slightly downwards before studying Sophie's eyes with such intensity, such care it made Sophie realize how little anyone had ever done so before.

Sophie's eyes had always been unique. A genetic mutation even the Black Swan didn't fully understand made Sophie the only elf to have brown eyes. People started all the time whenever they spoke to her but not like this. Not like how Stina was looking at her.

The world has faded away in the gentle brown billowing curls of Stina's hair. Navy pools of twinkling eyes were all Sophie could drown in as she took in with great detail how the light illuminating Stina's face made her dark eyes shimmer like the moon reflected in a lake full of stars.

Stina Heks was a thief, and her eyes were proof of her folly.

"We good," Stina asked as she leaned in, their lips inches apart as the smell of her perfume send an electrified blast shocking through Sophie's system, frying her brain into fuzzy, cloudy warmth as Stina whispered her name.

"Foster."

She was the Moonlark, the girl who disappeared, the Black Swan's experiment, and so much more. She was Sophie Elizabeth Foster.

And yet her name sounded like honey and all things worthy of the lilt in Stina's voice as the word slipped past her soft lips.

Sophie closed her eyes as her hands started to rest themselves on Stina when suddenly the other girl stiffened. She stopped and pulled back which was the complete opposite of what Sophie wanted her to do in that moment.

Sophie opened her eyes and saw the worry in Stina's navy blue eyes. The hesitance.

Stina wasn't holding her as tightly as Sophie wished she was. Sophie wanted her to pull her in by the collar of her jerkin and kiss her despite the miraculously tiny voice wondering why. Stina wasn't cupping Sophie's chin too tightly, Sophie could've moved away if she wanted to but she didn't.

Sophie knew she'd have to meet Stina halfway.

So she did.

Sophie gripped the fabric of Stina's tunic, pulling her close as the taller girl gasped softly as Sophie stood on her tip toes to reach better.

"Can I kiss you?" Sophie asked and Stina answered her by gently pressing her lips against Sophie's. Filling in the gap that had been empty for ages.

Sophie's hands were pulling her closer, Stina's fingers were buried in her hair. They paused only slightly for breath and then Sophie stumbled forward but Stina was ready to catch her. Their foreheads bonked together and Sophie winced.

"You could've told me to stop." Stina lightly complained, rubbing her forehead as she smiled nervously at Sophie before asking quietly. "Do you want me to stop?"

"No," Sophie told her, surprised she found the words to be true. She glanced at Stina's lips and then at her.

Stina nodded and Sophie kissed her again, a rumbling hum growing inside of her as a gust blew around them. Power seemed to flow all around in the wild winds that carried their feet off the ground. Stina's arms wrapping securely around Sophie's waist. The biting winds chased each other until they melted into a melody, dancing and spinning around and around with the beat of their fluttering hearts in tune as one.

Stina pressed her forehead against Sophie's and a warmth seemed to sink into their skin, deep past the pain and the hurt, further than any tear or cut. The electricity raged but did not snap as it seemed to flow between them, the energy shared as their moment reached the crescendo.

Sophie breathed out softly as Stina rubbed their foreheads together. Their hands finding each other easily as they locked into place.

It wasn't perfect nor was it the masterpiece of a life time, an award winning movie scene or even a simple dear diary kiss. It was just this, just them, just this moment and many more to come.

Sophie never imagined she'd see Stina Heks blush so fully or smile at her so warmly.

But here she was.

And it was real.

how mike and el’s relationship is similar to ted and karen’s

okay, so i was reading this https://octobergrae.tumblr.com/post/695241195442618368 post. specifically the wibble-wobbegong reblog. and when i reached the part about finn having said mike and el are like “a married couple without the option of divorce,” and to me, that summarizes them so well.

it really feels like from the beginning, they were pushed into this relationship. they were pushed into committing to it at such a young age—basically pressured into being in a serious relationship as pre-teens. and no specific person pressured them, but that didn’t mean they didn’t feel pressured.

it’s almost as though they were pushed into some sort of arranged marriage. they remind me a lot of karen and ted. they stay together because they don’t see another option.

karen doesn’t divorce ted (though it’s obvious she wants to) because she doesn’t want the kids’ parents to be separated (even though it would clearly do them a lot of good for their parents to separate). el doesn’t break up with mike because she thinks this is what she should be doing. this is what she saw in those tv shows. she’s happy she should be happy. so, why would she break up with him? for her, there’s no other option. it doesn’t exist for her because she sees this relationship as something that is just supposed to exist. even in season three when she breaks up with him, max tells her he’ll be begging for her forgiveness in no time, which implies that they both plan on getting back with their respective boyfriends.

the option doesn’t present itself until season four when el begins to realize she doesn’t need mike, and she doesn’t want to be with him.

ted doesn’t divorce karen for a reason. i personally think it’s because he doesn’t want another relationship so he doesn’t see a point in divorcing her. he’s comfortable. he’s comfortable, and divorcing her would make him feel uncomfortable, because he would feel lost without her. karen does all the parenting. karen does the housework. ted relies on karen, and he knows this. he also knows this if he divorces her, he won’t have her to depend on anymore.

mike doesn’t break up with el for this same reason. he’s comfortable with her, and breaking up with her would make him to feel uncomfortable since he’d be on his own. he feels like he needs el (he’s defined by her at this point. he’s not just mike. he’s el’s boyfriend. and to him, that’s a good thing, because he’s never wanted to be just mike).

i’ve seen a lot about mike needing to be needed, but in instance (with this parallel), i think it’s more about mike needing others. i saw the post (i’ll link it if i can find it) about mike with the hopper and enzo scene (“they didn’t need me. i needed them.”), and this is exactly what i’m talking about. mike wants—needs them to need him, but he what truly needs to is to realize that they don’t need him, and they never will. they want him. they all love him. they don’t need him, but they want him. nobody needs hopper. joyce doesn’t need hopper. she takes care of everyone just fine on her own. el doesn’t need hopper. she survived when she thought he was dead. joyce took care of her. she still had family. nobody needs mike. they’d survive without him (and maybe will does need him, but he’d survive without him. he’d be to survive without mike eventually, just like he did in lenora).

so, in the same way that ted needs karen to need him (because if she doesn’t need him as a co-parent, he’ll have to find his own way as a parent and person in general), mike needs el to need him, because if she doesn’t need his help or his love, he’s nothing. he’s lost, and he’s scared, and he’s mike. and at this point, we know that mike doesn’t think he’s enough. alone, mike is nothing. mike is nothing without el. ted is nothing without karen.

and we’ve seen it. we’ve seen that karen doesn’t need ted. she could raise the kids on her own. she could find a job. she could do it. but time and time again, she falls back into the safety of what she knows (it’s the safe option). she doesn’t leave ted because it’s all she’s ever known (and mike is all el’s ever known. they’ve been together since they were kids, and their relationship has been festering since before el even knew how to communicate).

ted is an anchor. mike is an anchor. but they are not needed. at the end of the day, karen needs her kids, and el needs her family. karen and ted’s divorce is basically inevitable, and if they do stay together, we all know they’re not going to be happy. they’re going to continue to be comfortable.

the same goes for el and mike.

last thing. in season four, there were blatant scene parallels between ted and mike. technically, the first two pictures are comparing mike and el to ted and karen, but the second also parallels nancy and el both storming away from the dinner table, which i find very interesting considering the many, many parallels between mike and hopper. (it’s almost as if they’re also comparing el to mike’s family members, but why? because *squints at writing on hand* mike and el are in love?)

Okay, shooting my shot into the dark here. AFAIK, from MY fandom experiences (I entered the Bioware domain LATE late, so it's not from that), "playersexual" was originally a term that bisexual/pansexual people used to critique how, if a character was written as bi, it was fanservice in the sense that the character was... not bi. Their dialogue was frequently monosexual, usually hetero, with MAYBE a pronoun change here or there for the protag. But all their exes, if they had them, all their crushes, all their means of expressing their sexual and romantic interest? Not bi in nature. Down to animations often just... assuming you weren't going to romance them in a same-sex way. At some point, the term got yoinked, misunderstood, and wrestled into an ill-fitting box, which is what you've pretty accurately described as "being mad at a made-up version of DA:2". But when I first heard the term, it was super not about that. It was about bi rep not going hard enough on being bi and wanting the characters to be more explicitly bi.

Yeah this tracks for me. I was about to make another post about how from what I've seen there's two working definitions of playersexual and they are 1) a character (in a group of characters whonare the same) that can be romanced by the PC regardless of gender and 2) a character romance that doesn't not acknowledge the gender of the PC in any way, and is just the same set of scenes and dialogue regardless. And how I think 2 is actually a good legitimate criticism, whereas 1 is just, like a neutral thing that a lot of people think is bad for reasons they can't actually seem to articulate.

this is so random but i would love to hear your opinion on mydramalist as a fellow asian drama lover. because it’s obviously well known as a reliable wiki of sorts in dramaland but i beg to differ. (the only plus i feel being the summary and cast list for info)

i mean, i’ve not seen a single comsec w more than two brain cells as a whole? there’s always complaints about female leads rooted from misogyny, they are never happy about story progression, and i just find so many of them kinda dumb sorry lol. like zero media literacy to be found, insufferable arguments, etc. the star ratings are rly just given to popular dramas w high profile actors too.

and i personally find it disheartening that so many ppl end up referring to mdl when considering dramas because so many gems are then lost and not given appreciation.

anon. anon anon anon if you know the way i sat straight the f*ck up when i saw the notification and then read through this ask bc yes. yes to everything here that is exactly it. almost three fourths of what i've watched this year was either 1. not received well by the general MDL crowd (Moon in the Day. where is the taste brethren to not like MITD and not even for reasons that actually make sense), 2. received well but had a good chunk of people bitching in the comment section, or 3. received well but had the main point of the show (and its relevant characterization) go over their heads. (The Worst of Evil aka TWOE comment section, i am f*cking looking at you. i can count on one hand the number of people who understood what that show was supposed to be about) the one fourth that managed to escape was bc the toxicity did not reach the comment section and everyone was pretty f*cking civil. alas if only it could be like that all of the time

case in point for the ratings example, since we've already briefly tackled the lack of media literacy—j-dramas on MDL are notoriously rated much, much lower than either k- or c-dramas. half of the time that's bc there are less users watching (and rating) them therefore the average is lower but the other half it's bc people simply do not understand good media when they see it. don't get me wrong there's some freaky ass sh*t in the j-drama world that i would not touch with a Grinch level pole but to see MDLers out here talking about how slow j-dramas are and that nothing's happening. have you considered that you are either watching the wrong genre or you shouldn't be watching j-dramas in the first place bc their entire setup and general narrative framing arcs are not your style. have you even thought about that for six seconds or are you too busy expecting it to read like a typical tropey rom-com k-drama with your trending oppas. (no hate on my tropey rom-coms with [most of] said oppas, i need them when i don't want to think i just want to see sh*t on my screen and scream about hot people and the Hand Umbrellas in the Rain and the Back Hold when the male lead catches the female lead before she falls and you have the fifteen second focus on their faces just looking at each other)

and the misogyny. oh God do not get me started on the dichotomy that was the Cult, as we affectionatly called ourselves, on the feeds while THEE sageuk of the year My Dearest was airing (beloved show [that i still need to finish. JangChae i'm sorry ily life hates me like the mf it is 😭], beloved commentary on the feeds. they saw the vision on the feeds) vs the sh*tshow that was the landmine field of the comment section (the takes i saw on Gil Chae, Eun Ae AND Ryang Eum respectively.......... the misogyny wasn't enough we had to add the homophobia into the mix. buy one get one free deal fr fr). you mad man. that sh*t was insane there was a point i banned myself from scrolling farther than the cast section until the show finished airing. i kid you not on average they didn't have even half a braincell. maybe a quarter of a quarter of one. f*cked up just say you are not decent people and go

this is not to say that all of MDL is like this. i have gotten tuned into absolute masterpieces of content (and have tuned others, amen) bc of a comment comparing a show i'm watching to another one or a review being posted in the feeds about a film with less than 500 people interested. i have reconsidered my choice to not watch something after having spirited discussions in private messages discussing the pros and cons of the premise and whether they managed to get it done without f*cking sh*t up. i still contribute semi-regularly by adding relatively unknown actors and crew members to the database so they can get the credit due them. if you know where to look, you can get some good sh*t out of that place. problem is most users who are new to both the site and East/Southeast Asian cinema as a whole don't know where to look, and the cycle continues, and the ratings continue to be skewed/bloated and no one pays attention to the plot, if there even is any to pay attention to.

tl;dr: begging people to not let MDL be the be all end all for their drama recs a la 'well MDL doesn't like it so i won't watch it'. babe we have said MDLers complaining about how the ratings on Viki are too high but in my entire time watching dramas i've found that in the past two to three years the Viki ratings are making more sense than the MDL ones. sit with that for a sec. when you're done branch out and see the world (literally and cinematically), i promise you will be a better person for it

hey, regular reminder that if you get someone in your inbox (that you have never interacted with before/has never been following you) asking you to reblog a post on their blog (sob story asking for donations, usually about a pet to make it extra guilt-trippy) and they specifically ask you to answer this ask privately (for a vague and weak reason, why wouldn't they want more eyes on this post?) and then you go to their blog and their account is days old at most (and they're even claiming they have an old account that got shadowbanned ((?? being "shadowbanned" on tumblr does not mean you can't still post from that account?)) but never mention the url of that old blog) and all their reblogs are straight from the op and not from anyone they might be following who reblogged the post first (indicating they just quickly searched a semi-popular fandom tag to reblog some innocuous fanart to make the blog seem lived in)-

this is probably a scam :/ keep your eye out for odd details, inconsistency, and a glaring lack of credibility. stay safe out there everypony.

#ugh #yucky #bad taste in my mouth #this specific format of ask has also just been previously proven to be a scam tactic #so anybody trying to use it legitimately to fundraise is begging not to be taken seriously srry #they've clearly been in other peoples' inboxes with the same guilt-trippy copypasta #bc the ~200 notes they got are filled with ppl saying they cant donate rn but will signal boost it #ughhh #i'm rereading the exact wording of this post and getting so mad it doesn't make any sense #one of the pictures included is a vet invoice but they say they haven't gone to the vet yet but also the cat is pictured in a cone already #it does not make sense #said vet is also “the only one in the area that will take donations over the phone” but “needs to be paid upfront” #so. you cant have taken the cat to the vet yet. bc you dont have the money. which you are asking to be donated directly to ur paypal #thats not over the phone. thats. what? #MAYBE they mean an online payment but like. #then why do u have an invoice and the cat is clearly bandaged and in a cone already!! #then they also say the cat is already on antibiotics and only has days left if they dont get further treatment #and then a paragraph later claim the cat needs antibiotics! #im SO tempted to email this vet #i wont #im gonna put this to bed now
