Inevitable Gerudo Headcanon Posting

i spend too much time thinking about the gerudo like genuinely theyre one of my favorite recurring tribes in the zelda series, which as we all know is a form of suffering because god forbid nintendo stop relying on racist tropes and caricatures.

keeping in line with this nintendos portrayal of the gerudo tends to either be 1) why theyre bad, and/or 2) how a culture of all women has kids. like thats an oversimplification of ALLL the problems present in the gerudos portrayal but thats a different post for another time. in general i bring this up because it means, for me as well as any others interested and invested un the gerudo, that there is a kind of generalized lack of pre botw characterization or cultural concepts to work with, esp when compared to the other tribes of hyrule. (looks pointedly at how theres no gerudo in the gerudo desert but there is a prison slash execution site where their king was held. LOOKS AT WHO SURVIVED THE PROLOGUE CUTSCENE IN WINDWAKER)

ANYWAYS. botw was really fun because, while it had plenty of its own issues with the gerudo, they were at least non hostile! so with that in mind, the headcanons and worldbuilding i write primarily apply to the wilds era gerudo, which spans the timeframe between ganondorfs reign as king to totk (suspending disbelief because that timeframe is. by all accounts. longer than recorded human history. friendly reminder ganondorf does All That before we even get sheikah wifi towers. christ.)

anyways. second verse same as the first, core assumptions and then a readmore

Some core assumptions:

The BotW branch of the timeline is chronologically set AFTER the previous timeline, ie the events of ToTKs ancient past is set AFTER the last event of the Hyrule Historia timeline. essentially they all come back together to form one line that makes up ToTKs ancient era

The biggest effect on Hyrules topography was the flooding in Wind Waker. after an unknown point, the flooding ocean receded leaving behind the ruins of ancient Hyrule. at some point after that, the zonai settled parts of it and made the buildings wed see as ruins by the time of BotW. slowly the various tribes of hyrule immigrated back

all peoples within the setting of hyrule are loosely grouped into categories called tribes. in this sense, tribe refers a collection of peoples with shared traits, without anything concretely set in stone (for example, hyrule includes the tribe of hylians, the tribe of gorons, the tribe of koroks, etc etc). the main six who show up repeatedly can be considered the sage tribes (gerudo, hylian, sheikah, rito, goron, zora), and the various types of enemies can be considered the monster tribes (the blin tribe of bokoblin, moblin, bulblin, etc)

so. starting at the beginning. near entirely headcanons

in ocarina of time, we see the spirit temple, where Nabooru awakens as a sage. this temple features a MASSIVE statue of a woman adorned with a snake and its primary mechanic centers around mirrors and reflected light. while the mirrors return, we dont really get that same kind of implied spiritual/religious focus again. so instead im going to make a mountain out of a molehill and position her as the primary spiritual figure here. im running low on name ideas tho so suggestions are much appreciated. for right now ill refer to her as the serpent goddess

the gerudo are culturally a people of function over form, practicality over whimsy, but when circumstances allow for it, are drawn like any other to arts and music and decoration. they have a long history of bloody, brutal battle, and while the war has long since ended, its kings buried and its warriors naught but ghosts, the desert remembers. its sands haunted by the bloodstains of conflict past, and echoes of ancient tragedies. the gerudo here in the era of wilds may have lost their records of their ancient history of conflict, but some aspects, preserved by the sands, have managed to survive the onslaught of time

surviving all this time is the ancient creation myth of the gerudo people. as legend tells it, long ago in the time before myth, there existed a goddess whos power was transformation. she was possessed of two forms, one a proud humanoid figure, the other a striking serpentine form twisting through the heavens with ease, her scales glittering with mirror sheen. to shift from serpent to human, she would shed her skin, and grow it back again to embrace her serpentine form anew

seven times she shed her skin, and from these shed skins rose the first gerudo, each embodying a key aspect of their sacred mother. the serpent goddess's scales are each a nascent soul of a gerudo, and when those scales are shed and fall to the land below, a new gerudo is born. likewise, when a gerudo dies, their soul returns to the scales of the serpent goddess, to await until they would descend again and reincarnate once more. the seven daughters of the serpent goddess led these gerudo as their guardians, leaders, and protectors. but, away from the seven heroines and their new people, the goddess shed her skin an eighth time. this daughter was born alone, and while her sisters embodies the strengths of spirit, flight, endurance, knowledge, motion, skill, and gentleness, the eighth was born with insatiable wanderlust. learning of this, the seven sisters cursed her name for leaving them and their people behind, and despite their shared ancestry, the eighth was forbidden to be spoken of. this suited her just fine, and the eighth was free to walk the land and learn all of its hidden paths

in time, war came to the gerudo, as it often does. though they were united, and strong, they were a small collection of people, and thus despite their proficiency were threatened nonetheless. it became clear at last that they could not stand and fight, and that to survive, they could not remain in place for long. but the enemy had pushed them deep into their home, and knew all the paths back. as hope seemed lost, as if summoned by call, the eighth sister at last wandered home. calling her seven sisters to her, she proclaimed that every hidden step was known to her, and while she lacked the power to guide them on her own, together they would escape unseen into the night, their enemy none the wiser. thus, skillfully guiding the skills of her sisters, the eighth heroine led the gerudo into safety, and the seven were humbled from their pettiness. seeking to apologize to the sister they had banished and forgotten, the seven sought to make amends, but the eighth was content merely to have a place of remembrance among them. to wander is not a sin, as long as one remembers where their home lies.

the eight heroines have long since passed and returned to their mothers scales, but the virtues they embody are cherished by the gerudo family they left behind, seeking to hold their memory close even as the years wear on

to the gerudo was bestowed the blessing of the element of Spirit, embodied by their iron wills and manifesting as crackling lightning. this spirit lightning is the gerudo's will made tangible, arcing out towards their target as an extension of their focus and sheer determination. to a gerudo, nothing is impossible until one has devoted themselves entirely to it, giving it their all, and only then may it be conceded

a long history of persecution has resulted in the gerudo being increasingly insular and isolationist. their admiration of the art of combat and how it can bring forth an individuals talents, achieving a perfect harmony between body and will as the weapon became an extension of ones limbs, was often perceived as aggression by outsiders, who would react as if to defend their own interests. the gerudo have suffered much at the hands of hyrule at large, and have pulled further and further away.

as the gerudo pulled away from hyrule, and hyrule from them, they devoted most of their attention to themselves. cooperation amongst themselves is seen as paramount to their survival, and familial affection often extends well past ones blood relations.

the gerudo value family, and loyalty, alongside independence and cooperation. everyone should have the opportunity to pursue their goals, but if someone is struggling, it is the responsibility of everyone to help. children are raised by as many people as are available, and even in the times of monarchy, the palace was less a formal dwelling place belonging to the gerudo ruler and more a public forum that the ruler simply happened to live in

most of the palaces amenities are fully public, a tradition that has carried on to riju's time. meals are communal and the kitchens open to all, and the palace has no strictly dedicated servants, merely a collection of amenities the gerudo people are free to use at will and often do so together. what this means is that there is no servant, for example, dedicated to preparing riju's meals but instead a collection of people willing to cook and willing to eat making meals riju partakes in, and this applies to most other menial tasks as well. the throne room is where the leader of the gerudo engages in their job as public servant, attending to the needs of the gerudo at large and responding to crises as they arise.

as nintendo is keen to point out, the gerudo are a people that are predominantly "all women", and thus spends plenty of time going over dialogue wherein people wonder how they have children and including a plethora of sidequests in the wilds era about acquiring partners. im ignoring all of that and instead going by lizard rules, in part because here theyre descended from a serpent dragon goddess, wherein a population of all female lizards were able to successfully maintain a stable population and have children without major issue. gerudo like ganondorf are the equivalent of a rare genetic mutation that flips some other genes on and has a different result, that really doesnt affect anything besides this one kid and doesnt have any major effects or differences in their life. two gerudo are perfectly capable of having kids together, having relationships as usual, and on the topic of "how do the gerudo have kids", thats all i really feel like exploring that topic

with an insular, isolationist culture that appeared for all intents and purposes to be all women, the gerudo were often a source of major culture shock when interacting with the other tribes of hyrule, most notably hylians

bonus hylian lore: hylians experience an even greater lack of sexual dimorphism than irl humans do, so gender presentation is near exclusively presentation based, with a heavy emphasis on clothing. showing skin is considered an act of emotional intimacy, and most hylians opt to cover as much as they can. the intensity of presentation scales upwards with their role in society, with the royal family having the most extreme form of gender presentation. gender is presented through clothing style and hair length, with ornamentation, jewelry, and piercings serving as a kind of intensifier, and hylian culture at large tends to operate on a sliding scale of masculine to feminine, with the middle androgynous zone being a weird gender spot for them

the gerudo, by contrast, never really developed a concept of masculinity versus femininity. gender pronouns in gerudo are based on personal proximity, occupation in society, and familiarity. these barely translate at all into hyrulean.

as the gerudo, by circumstance or by choice, interacted with hylians and the tribes of hyrule more and more often, some kind of understanding had to be reached with regards to translation. as relations were already terse, making an attempt to fully translate the gerudos understanding of gender to your average hylian was considered a fools errand, and thus translation was done in broad strokes, giving hylians the simplest root form of gender pronouns (and none of the increasingly specific declensions). loosely, the term vai is closer in concept to "us" and voe is closer to "not us" "foreigner" "outsider", and has taken on a connotation of " forbidden" or "taboo" (leading to wilds era gerudo secret clubs often imploying translatable Adult Puns regarding their catering to voe and the overall titillating atmosphere they tend to put on for customers). with regards to hylians, the feminine princesses and queens had more in common with the gerudo and were thus "vai", but the masculine kings and soldiers, who were often the main figures pushing aggressive efforts into conquering or otherwise absorbing the gerudo into hyrule, were "voe". this was then distributed in various guides to understanding the gerudo language as " vai" meaning "woman" and "voe" meaning man

gerudo town, as the capital of their people and general hub, has a law banning the entrance of voe. at the time if its writing, this was a fairly obvious law, because most "people who are forbidden" are forbidden from entering. as time has passed, hostilities cooled, and relations warmed, this law has been the subject of a long struggle of interpretation. it doesnt translate well into nearly any other language, and thus who counts as "voe" and "vai" is subject to endless debate. the differences in gender perception are most clearly on display with the admittance of the gorons. one might assume that the gorons, being a monogendered people who typically use masculine terms of identity and endearment in hyrulean, to thus qualify as voe, but the gorons cooperative nature, near uniform monogendered culture, and emphasis on hard work and independence has enough in common with your average gerudo that considering them as vai is a no brainer

ganondorf thus is also, clearly, considered vai. the specific pronouns he uses in his native gerudo include declensions regarding his position as royalty (one that has since gone out of use and is fairly archaic now, only really being used as a kind of neo-pronoun by current era gerudo as a rebellious self identification thing), his relation as the only child of koume and kotake, and are conjugated based on relation between the speaker and him. in the ancient era, calling ganondorf voe would be so confusing as to not even read as an insult. if one really wanted to refer to ganondorf with a tone of insult, theyd substitute the declension of familiarity with one used for strangers

ganondorf achieved his position as king the old fashioned way: a gift from his moms. ancient era gerudo practiced typical monarchy with a line of succession, and koume and kotake named him as the next royal of the gerudo as their heir. the hyruleans, seeing a masculine gerudo of royal birth, referred to him as "king", and correcting a culture of people he had little respect for was just a waste of ganondorfs time. after ganondorfs sealing, the gerudo changed to the current system of chiefs, wherein the current chief names a successor, or by default passes it onto their living heir. a system is in place to democratically install a new chief if the current one passes without naming a child their heir, or naming a successor in their place, a system drafted and then used in ganondorfs absence. riju thus inherited the mantle from her mother, but could opt instead to force a vote, or have such a vote forced on her due to her age, leading to much of her insecurity seen in BotW. this system has proven to be relatively stable, especially coupled with the continued tradition of keeping the palace an open public forum

the first chief of the gerudo was nabooru, advised by the sage of lightning we see in totk, following ganondorfs sealing

the gerudo are very familiar with the souls of the dead. poes, souls lost and aimless, wander the desert after millennia of bloodshed. thus their funerary customs have persisted, even as the folklore behind them fades in and out of memory.

a person perceives reality through their body. they know the sky is above them both by craning their neck up, and by the sensation of ground beneath them. in death, one is bodiless, and sensation becomes a confusing, directionless onslaught. it is so easy for a spirit to become lost, unable to orient themselves. the gerudos funerary rites seeks to aid these souls in their journey towards returning to the serpent goddess, as without guidance they are liable to become poes. the body after death is merely an empty receptacle, and on a practical level is a potential draw for dangerous desert scavengers seeking an easy meal. the shifting sands and hard soil makes burial difficult to impossible, so instead the gerudo burn their dead. smoke is ephemeral and thus able to be seen by spirits, and even as the wind rushes, smoke will still travel upwards towards the heavens. a spirit will linger by its body for a time, and thus cremation helps provide guidance to the dead. unable to feel the earth beneath them, the dead can follow the trails of smoke to orient themselves upwards, and dispel lingering confusion

as the body is burned both to guide the departed's soul and to ward away scavengers, the gerudo inter their belongings into gravesites instead, usually one or a small collection of items that the deceased valued or were considered emblematic of them. having a proud history of warriors, many gerudo consider their weapons extensions of themselves, and thus many gravesites will consist of a single weapon.

the sage of lightnings temple served as the primary gravesite for many gerudo, and in its heyday was decorated with love and care as befitting its role. torches burned bright in its sconces and the walls painted with care in massive sweeping murals. here in the temple, a foreigners idea of the gerudo as austere and practical would fall away, as the halls shone with warmth and color, taken from their desert home

lost souls that become poes often end up becoming consumed by their regrets and despair at their inability to find their way back to reincarnation through the serpent goddess's scales, and from there turn to rage and aggression. the sunlight glinting off of the goddess's mirror scales will blind and disorient the dead who have lost their way, as they try in vain to rely on their half forgotten senses, and thus poes eschew the day in favor of the cover of night. though incorporeal, poes move as fast as the desert winds, and try all they can to cause mischief and havoc. usually the end result of their shenanigans is light injuries and scratches, but it isn't uncommon for a waylaid traveller or adrenaline seeking youngster to suffer fatal consequences. despite this, poe hunting tends to be the go-to act of rebellion for antsy teenagers with a taste for danger. in general, one of the only things fast enough to strike a poe is a fired arrow

as the sands grew and the desert expanded, it grew more and more difficult for the steeds of the gerudo to gallop across the dunes, and they were driven further and further back until the gerudo phased out their horseback traditions entirely

and as an AU specific trivia tidbit

after ganondorf's sealing, nabooru grieved the loss of her childhood friend by constructing a dedicated tomb to house ganondorf's gravesite. even though he wouldn't die, nabooru would never live to see him again, and in traditional gerudo fashion, his gravesite is marked by his signature trident, further imbued by nabooru's blessing of lighting (in a similar fashion to urbosa's fury, despite urbosa not being a sage).

There are a looot of characters, and I definitely worry sometimes that it gets to be too much, but I think the IF is getting long enough for me to give enough-ish screentime to each character... though it takes me a while to cycle back to different side characters. I cant believe you remembered the cool ass girl in laser tag! :)

5. Yup, being a character driven IF, there will be a lot of romance (or friendship) beats / moments in the IF (which is already true now). The next couple of chapters will follow the same mix of sports, school and romance / hanging out, so you should already have a sense of how much romance there'll be (it'll just keep unfolding / developing for each of the RO routes!)

MY NOTES: i might have read this fic a dozen times and everytime i do i am always so amazed by it. i have a soft spot for fics that move alongside actual comic canon, and so this was a lovely follow up to that original story (though you do not need to be familiar with it to enjoy this fic). damian is such a complicated character but at the end of the day, he is a child — and i think this handled his tumultuous relationship with bruce, dick and selina(!!) really well.

Jason's been in the manor for a few months now. Bruce is a pretty cool guy, sure, but he's not exactly sure what to expect from him.

And then they go to Siberia in the winter on a case. It goes horribly wrong, and then pretty well.

MY NOTES: personally i think it is always the perfect time of year for a christmas fic that isn't actually about christmas. now, not only do all the best tropes meet in this fic (cuddling for warmth, sick fic, comfort after nightmares - to name a few) BUT this is also about robin jason todd. the little boy of all time. wonderful fic.

The major difference between Gotham before Bruce left to set up Batman, Inc and Gotham after he comes back is that his children are grown-ups. Well, except for Damian.

Still, four out of five's an overwhelming majority.

MY NOTES: there is something so healing about this fic. bruce is rather pathetic (said fondly) in the way troubled middle aged men become when they finally realise their life is only in consequence of the people who exist around them. the dynamic between cass and bruce and dick and bruce in this is one of my favourites. the latter is very carefully weaved into the entire story, even when pertaining the other characters. a great take on bruce!

MY NOTES: oh this is such a fun one!! stephanie and bruce is such a wonderful dynamic and something about bruce creating an entirely new persona as a subconscious excuse to gloat about his children is just too funny. really sweet!

Bruce really needs to get rid of his saviour complex. Not all of them are the same as that poor boy who had to watch his parents get murdered in a dark alleyway; not all of them need to be saved.

Jason is perfectly fine where he is. Some capital would be great, but otherwise, he’s fine. He’s fine.

MY NOTES: this one hits you when you least expect it. it is so funny, so sweet and it hurts. jason todd you are so ridiculously complicated and tragic. also my favourite kind of time travel, kind-of-time-travel! little jason receives all of older jason's memories and his meeting with bruce and journey to robin is different, but some things are just destiny i suppose. so lovely.

as for inspirations or favourite authors, i have to say it might just be everyone i have ever read a fic from so i can not pick out anyone right now. the writers featured on this list are also phenomenal and some have written other amazing and loved batfam fics you should definitely check out!

Introduction

Hello.

I'm new to this...Ive never had a blog before but I've always liked the idea of having one. Combining two of my favourite things: reading and (even tho i like it less and am fairly bad at it) writing. Its a dream! Shall I start by telling you facts about me maybe?

Alright. Since you cant answer I just will.

I'd rather not tell you my real name if I'm being honest. With the whole digital footprint and doxxing and all. I'll have to think of a username I'd like. I turned 16 in august. I'm really lucky that my birthday's in august, because its always warm and its ALWAYS in summer break at least where I'm from. We have the whole august summer break. I LOVE IT.

I WAS born in germany and both my parents are german so no english roots what-so-ever (well in the near past) but when covid started back in the beginning of 2020 and school had to stop for a while, while they had to figure out what to to do with the whole pandamic and all so my mom suggested I'd start watching my shows and films in english to learn better english so I did that and it's degenerated a little bit into reading English books. BUT i have to thank my mom for getting the ball rolling.

Im bisexual, meaning I like girls AND boys (figured THAT out finally when i was 13) and if you have anything mean to say about it to me I'll cry (especially when you start talking about the connection between being gay and god - when you say bad things because nobody can say good things about THAT relationship)

My hobbies are

dancing (jazz which is a mix of ballett and hiphop if anyone cares),

reading (fanfiction AND actual books)

and by now probably meeting my friends (I've never considered that to be a hobby...not because i didnt have any friends, no. More because I usually dont like meeting up with people)

and i should probably put "going to the gym" on that list too, but I kind of dropped the ball on that one...

My first book I remember really LOVING that really got me into reading (when i was 9) was (and now this is going to be german so just ignore it if you dont know it) "Alea Aquarius" and I read it now too sometimes. Even though its a childrens book, it became a comfort book too, thinking of all the good times I had as a child especially reading (not just that book but in general). Even young it became an escape from the world (even without screaming parents).

I usually read everything, depending on what people recommend me. But I do have genres I read more than others. Romance, Fantasy and Crime are my favourites even tho romance is getting predictable. MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE TROPE tho is unreliable narrator. It is THE best!! The genre I read the least tho is non-fiction. I just need books that transport me into a new (often better and more interesting) world. Classics too are a genre I dont really read. Doesnt mean i havent read a classic and also doesnt mean i dont own some it just means that reading classics in english as a german person is really not that easy...so i dont OR i buy the book in german too. I did that for pride and prejudice (that i bought solely because it was mentioned A LOT in a random wattpad book hehe) and I love it now and own three copies (2 german, 1 english).

I dont read my fanfiction on wattpad anymore either. Ive transferred to ao3 instead. If you dont know the platform, you ABSOLUTELY should. Its amazing what people can write and how EASILY a book can be longer than the bible is magnificent. The fanfiction on there can easily be published as actual books. No problem. And we get to read it for free! Im so grateful for that all the time.

Dont immediatly think Im weird just for reading fanfiction (be honest, who hasnt). I mightve read some dream smp once...(a bit too many because i used to be REALLY into dnf and even bought dream hoodies but lets not talk about that phase of my life. Its embarrassing) but now i love drarry and marauders (especially wolftstar and jegulus) but i also enjoy the "all for the game"-fanfictions - especially "Black as is the Raven" (which is also longer than the bible. dont worry, i checked, am not spreading false information) on ao3 (a trilogy, sooo... actual books) nowadays.

On my spotify wrapped (people who use AppleMusic are weird) it said i listened for 219,139 minutes which are 152 days so I can call myself the music queen now (which is also cringe). My favourite songs (yes i listen to music while reading) are

i very distantly remember you asking for Idiosyncratic Ship-names for Trigun (not in those words, but thats what TV Tropes calls them. the ships where theyre labeled after words, instead of blending their names together (which the name-blending kind of ship-names TV Tropes says is called Portmanteau Ship-names)). im PRETTY SURE that Ask came from you but i cant find the Ask anymore, but, again, im?? pretty sure???? it was you?

anyway, if i recall correctly, you wanted an idea for Meryl × Vash × Wolfwood ship-name (that was idiosyncratic; as opposed to the Mashwood ship-name that is Portmanteau), and ive been wrestling with sharing mine for a while bc its a ship-name ive been using for my un-posted OC × those three, but it can be repurposed for your needs too. i should add that, for poly ships, i personally like to incorporate the number of people involved in the name. but the number 3 (as opposed to the original: 4) works in the ship-name i have. you can also ditch the number, if you want, im not your boss. or you can ditch this whole ship-name if you dont like it

but for Meryl × Vash × Wolfwood (× my OC) ive been using (DE4LOWERED) D3FLOWERED, or i guess just DEFLOWERED if you prefer no numbers

i guess you could keep the original number if you wanted to use Reader inside it tho

but yeah. that Ask has been on my brain for months now, re-popping up as i go "nah" and re-popping up again until i decided i could at least share what ive been using in private. again, you certainly dont have to use it. im not even wholly sure it was you since i cant find the Ask (but tumblr's search feature has always been garbage so im unsurprised i cannot find it)

first i want to say i am sorry for getting back to this so late! i have been very busy recently!!

it absolutely was me who was looking for idiosyncratic ship names!! i was from the age of fandom (or maybe the particular fandom??) that had quite a lot of them! specifically young justice in the mid 2010s? we had spitfire, museum heist, chalant, i think red cat? we had a ton! and i feel like i saw it in other fandoms for a bit too but it slowly died off!

i just loved how clever they were! i think i also remember at one point people also were rather poetic about ot3 names? i think i remember someone who used to tag their rey, finn, and poe ot3 content with “ot3: mosaics are just broken pieces” and that stuck with me too.

but i LOVE that you’ve shared your own poly ship names with your OC and so generously offered them up for what we know as mashwood right now!! i love the inclusion of the number too!! i feel like back in the day, id tag it like this “ot3: d3flowered” WHICH IS FUN!

i tried thinking of one for them along the same lines of the “museum heist” ot3 which was robin x wally x artemis from young justice…..which if you shortened their names would get robwallart…which then became museum heist! because of the play on the words their name formed, which looked and sounded like “robbing wall art”

so i was kinda trying to play with mashwood like that because their names together currently invoke like….a forest? marshy forest? couldn’t figure out something i liked but i did like the forest imagery, since their planet no longer has them and in ways, they represent a beacon of hope for the planet.

d3flowered is lovely though!!

also obsessed with your oc and other ship names too….thats SO fun. ringing bell-flower is really evocative. i love the thought you’ve put into this.

makes me want to come up with ship names for my reader ocs and these characters…..i feel like with wolfwood i at least have this reoccurring “hellcat” reader….

My thoughts on Watching and Dreaming

I watched the episode when it premeired last night but i hit post limit so couldnt post about it. Spoilers under the cut. sorry if anything is out of order lol im sick and im just throwing everything i thought last night down on this post.

-Luz being attacked by Amity genuinely made me cry

-"My girlfriend is too big a nerd to misremember an Azura quote" -luz probably

-Lilith having the haircut from For the Future but color scheme from season 1 is a nice touch

-"Dont you recognize your siblings" Ok damn man didnt need to go THAT far

-The giant stone Flapjack in Luz's nightmare killed me and not in the good funny way but in the sad crying way

-in the words of @minty-creator "BELOS FUCKETH OFF" (We were both watching the ep and screaming to each other about it)

-at first I thought belos was gonna try and possess king but then I realized no he's going to possess the fucking boiling isles titan

-I actually kinda liked that The Collector had no concept of death. They're a kid, an IMMORTAL GODLY KID. Of course they wouldnt know what death is

-Pacman Collector will haunt my nightmares

-The Collector needs a hug. I want to give them a hug.

-"You know this cant last forever" that was said to the collector but it feels like it was also aimed towards us

-I LOVE that when the collector uses "Kindness and Forgiveness" on Belos IT DOESNT WORK. I FUCKING H A T E THAT TROPE OF POWER OF FRIENDSHIP REDEMPTION. It was one of the few things I genuinely hated about Steven Universe (SU is still a good show tho they just kinda overused villain redemption. And yeah yeah you could argue MLP overuses that too but MLP was ABOUT friendship)

-Luz, Eda, and King's expressions when The Collector hugs Belos is so funny tho. Literally just 👁👄👁

-I literally screamed at Luz's sacrifice. S C R E A M E D.

-Anyone gonna talk about the fact Eda gave Raine a little kiss when saving them from the Belos goop

-the entire episode was so anime but the fight scene between Titan Luz and Belos was just anime as fuck and the smooth animation makes it even better

-"NOW EAT THIS SUCKA" IT ALL COMES FULL CIRCLE

-Look at how fuckin anime this is I love it so much

-Luz looks so badass btw idk if I mentioned that

-Belos trying to bullshit his way out of this and Luz having NONE OF IT is so great. I hat the "[insert curse/supernatural thing] made me do it so im innocent" trope if it's done poorly or with a character like Belos. Love that they smashed that into the ground with Luz having fucking none of it.

-LOOK AT HOW BADASS AND GENDER SHE LOOKS I WILL NOT SHUT UP ABOUT THIS I AM SO NOT NORMAL ABOUT THIS

-I AM SO GLAD BELOS HAD A GRUESOME DEATH THAT WAS SO SATISFYING.

-I like the touch that Titan Luz isnt affected by the boiling rain

-King's dad is A PUN MASTER

-the reuniting. oh my titan the reuniting. I cried. Gus doing a little illusion with his dad, Amity hugging Alador (with Odalia rightfully in the sidelines), Hunter telling Darius about wolves, Willow and her dads!

-Darius and Eber so want to beat the shit out of Terra, Vitmir, and Adrien.

-Camila pulling Eda and King into a hug with Luz is just. YES.

-Yassified Hooty go brrr

-King giving The Collector Francois was so sweet

-All the kids as adults are so fucking gender. GIVE ME YOUR GENDER.

-All the photos on Luz's bulletin board are so amazing. Especially the one with Hooty dropping from a tree that one made me laugh so hard. Also the Bi Pride pin next to the graduation photo was amazing.

-"Stringbean's Corner" AWWWE

-When I tell you I screamed with joy when I saw there was a working permanent portal to the Boiling Isles I mean I SCREAMED WITH JOY

-I love that Hunter is a palismen carver and carved a Blue Jay to be his new palismen (according to Dana on twt the name of the palismen is Waffle. I love it.), but I also love that Hunter was (or maybe still is) Dell's apprentice by the looks of things

-The grave for Flapjack made me sob. And then the "Thank you for finding me" on it im just. I need a moment.

-Also I just realized now they all have matching Flapjack tattoos. Im gonna cry you guys.

how have you been enjoying FF16 so far?

(i'll try to be as vague and spoiler free as much as possible out of respect)

its honestly in my top favorite final fantasy games (maybe games ever) when i really thought it wouldnt appeal to me. its an honest to god ff game and gives me the same feeling of world exploration that, let's say, ff9 does for me. tho it took me forever to catch on to wade's name lol, feels natural in the setting

the active time lore is there just in case you get overwhelmed by the, admittedly, numerous cutscenes and the names they throw around. (i personally dont use it cuz i forget its there half the time. the detrimental effect of playing while hitting the bong)

the character writing is excellent too, you understnd motivations clearly even when you know its something that you definitely dont want to happen you kinda actually want it to happen because of how much it makes sense

i think its very easy to be endeared to a characters quirks almost immediately (if i see any Mid hate i'll riot) i dont think i've interacted with a quest npc that even if i cant remember their name i can remember what they were like. the hideaway completely accomplishes what (in my opinion) skyhold is supposed to feel like in dragon age inquisition.

like you kill this one character and you know theres the looming threat of that coming back to bite you in the ass the moment it happens. and there was a hope for a certain something i genuinely didnt expect to become a real twist but it did and it was so worth the lead up to the reveal

clive is such a great ff protagonist. he gives off that typically broody aura around him when you see him but when you hear him talk you can feel the way his upbringing comes through. very good dialogue and very good voice acting. 100% 10/10 would watch him sobbing, naked on the floor again.

i've personally never been the biggest fan of childhood friends turned lovers trope but its done just perfectly with jill and clive that i'm cheering for them while playing now. the first scene where there was an almost kiss was heartbreaking to watch

but yeah. its a great game near perfect if official reviews are anything to go by. everything ff15 kinda wanted to be ff16 blows it out of the water. like, imagine having good world building lol

mmmm slight NSFW warning

- okay so for halbarry fics. MMMMM there’s soooo much i could complain abt, im rlly rlly picky abt fics in general so. number one, i hate it when barry is written overly feminine what is with that why do people do that ?? that’s just annoying. being a bit awkward and mostly keeping to yourself does not equal feminine.

number two, i will immediately click off if hal is written as just a loudmouthed asshole, that’s just annoying and wildly out of character and i think alot of ppl agree with me on this one

number threeeee- when there’s sex scenes and it’s way too dom/sub. i hate that, it doesn’t matter who’s in which category, i hate it altogether. it’s not them, it’s not how it would go. i dont like sex in general (i like to joke abt it, i think it’s funny but that’s it) and try to avoid it but if the story i’m reading is interesting enough then i will read through it

- this is rlly small and nitpicky and not rlly a trope and has nothing to do with hal actually, but any fic where wally refers to barry as dad instead of uncle barry. now hear me out- i love the wally sees barry as a father figure thing like yeah that’s basically his dad. but the “uncle barry” term needs to stay because it’s so much more endearing to me i cant explain it. i love it in the same way that i love dick calling bruce by his name or B despite bruce actually being his legal parent. i dont rlly have a HUGE problem with it, i just prefer uncle barry. there was ONE fic i read that i was okay with it tho because of the circumstances i guess and the way it was written in there made it really sweet, but most of the time no i dont like it

i cant think of anymore for those rn

- uuhhmm fics in general… i read aLOT of richard centered fics. so uhm, this isnt a trope, but i dont like any dick grayson pairing at all. if he’s paired romantically with anyone then i’m immediately turned off

- i always hated coffee shop aus, flower shop aus, soulmate aus bother me alot idk why, HANAHAKI DISEASE. GOD THE ANGER THAT ONE IGNITES IN ME. my brain is pretty dead right now to remember any rlly specific tropes i dislike rn but let’s just say i am extremely picky

Hilde: I won't get into her but I'm thinking if you're at season 3 you must be starting to be like 👁️👄👁️. That feeling will continue they fail her high-key

She was a good character that didn't REALLY drive the plot but she literally was just That Girl yk. THE MAHABHARATA ... ?? i remember reading that as a kid and only registering the part where they all marry the same girl and also when they all die ANYWAYS i would like to hear abt him if youd like to talk abt him i am intrigued by his pretty brown boy swag

HEHEHEH YESSS it was me all along! sorry i ... idk what came over me

most of fates major characters come from very famous, ancient stories (karna, rama, and ashwatthama are also in there along w some other flop fucking characters designs) or are notable historical figures.

the series is weird (for so many fucking reasons) but one part of it is that most characters are based off the stories they come from so while they have the knowledge and experiences from their pasts, their personalities can be completely different from how they acted in these stories or in real life. sometimes its for the better, most of the time its to fit a specific character trope.

arjuna is ... a case study bc we get rlly weird reductions to his character that take away from how he was in the original text. arjuna in fate is a character that had everything handed to him and thus feels that he needs to go twice as hard in proving himself which manifests in a very... messy hero complex that is further exaggerated by his perfectionism. he struggles in accepting the "evil/darker" (i dont even know where to begin w this part of the story) parts of himself and when he finally does learn to w the help of the MC its the equivalent to him learning to be vulnerable w others (or at least to the MC) and not deny who he is or become fixated on imperfections.

its a huuuuge change in his personality and after u do his story the dialogue that he says to u changes from saying he wishes to be alone forever, until the end of time to wanting to help the MC forever, until the end. hes a lovely guy

admittedly the quality of his writing varies greatly depending on which chapters you focus on but most of his characterization is based off his relationship w karna... which is honestly a bad thing bc that ends up being a major focus and leaves little for his own self to grow and develop. in its essence, he became too fixated on his duel w karna and felt that it was unfair that he was able to beat him as it was through a dishonorable and hollow victory. it messed too much w his own feelings of perfectionism and so he rlllllyyyy hates (?) karna and wants to battle him again. personally i think the distress over killing his own brother in such a "cowardly way" messed w him too much to create a horrible horrible relationship btw the two. theyre much better now tho in the storyline, not perfect and not even close to good but arjuna doesnt try to kill him on sight anymore. sometimes.

fate is horrible. i genuinely dont recommend it to anyone, but arjuna is great on his own. look at this pic of him, karna, and thomas edison (the lion in the back)

i have this headcanon that he remembers the name of everyone in his classes because he was always forgettable as a kid and no one really knew his name cause he was so quiet (or he tries really hard to remember because he has this aching feeling that in another timeline he could never remember)

BACK TO HOW HOT HE IS

(stealing part of this from my earlier rant)

its late, hes tired, but hes back in the library to cram for his test tomorrow

so unlike him, usually hed be on top of things, but his minds been on some... other things. persons. person.

hes still sweaty and sore from football practice, having (literally) ran straight here after changing

throws his bag down (quietly of course, he's not some brute) and takes out like three different notebooks, his worn pencil case from freshman year, and his glasses

jason slides them on, pushing it up the bridge of his nose as he gets up and searches for the textbooks he needs

he knows its more comfortable and less time-consuming to just study at home, after all he already has loaner textbooks given out at the start of the school year, but something in his heart wanted him to drag his beat ass here and work

and good thing too, because he sees a familiar hand grab a book from the other side of the bookshelf

not that he just knows what your hand looks like, that'd be weird

it reveals your beautiful eyes, ones jason would love to see closer

he smiles at you from the crack in the bookshelf, murmuring a soft "hello"

you think you just saw an angel with the way the warm light crowned his head

but when you offer to help him study??? he thinks he fell in love

you were his SAVIOR

thanked you a billion times every other sentence and fumbled over his words cause hes never talked with you for this long

his ears are bright red even though the ac in the library was always to the max

also how is he wearing just a shirt

not that you minded though, it gave you a chance to ogle at the way the fabric was fighting for its life to keep him under wraps

and daydream about fantasies that shall not be named (one involving a pink bow around his bicep)

you dont know how long you were helping and how long you spent daydreaming

you hoped you werent being too obvious (it was very, very obvious but jason was too focused to notice)

it felt like mere minutes when jason looks up, a tired but accomplished look on his face

he thanks you one last time, saying he'll make it up to you

you couldnt help but feel disappointed until the fatigue from the day hits you like a bus

he offers to take you home, saying it was too dark out, and that it wouldnt be safe

god, hes such a gentleman

you take him up on the offer as you did NOT plan on dying a virgin

walks you to your door too, can he get any better???

apparently he can because after he got his scores back for his tests, he rushes to you with a bright smile and presents them like a child with their artwork

”i got a hundred! it’s all thanks to you, you’re a really great study buddy!”

of fucking course he gives the credit to you how is he so humble??

like that was alllll him you just sat there and admired the view (so real for that)

after that he practically begs you to go to his next game, saying he'll return the favor by playing extra hard for you

(can he be extra hard for me tho)

you needed no convincing because a. hes jason grace. end of question. (and b, you know his ass would look great in his uniform GOOD GOOGLY MOOGLY)

he even said he’ll treat you if your school wins (which should be the other way around, but he again, insists)

they won, to absolutely no one’s surprise

took you to a cute lil cafe where you guys got drinks and sandwiches

then he overthinks it before bed cause he didn’t make it sound like a date but he really wanted it to be but he wasn’t sure if you felt the same and-

when you guys do start dating, everyones jealous but they cant bear to hate because you guys are just so cute together (bonus if youre short cause height difference couple !!)

he tried to keep it secret cause he didnt want to get you overwhelmed with a bunch of attention, but its obvious to everyone hes extra soft with you

he thought he was being sneaky when he slowly shifted his usual seat day by day to be closer to you so it wouldnt be obvious (spoiler: it was)

you assured him you were okay with your relationship being public if he was okay with it too

of course he is how can he NOT want you by his side forever

he sees his friends give their gfs their jersey to wear to their games and is like “i so want that” but he’s too shy to ask youu

but it’s written all over his face as you catch him staring intently at the way his friend hands over his spare jersey to his girlfriend when they think no one was looking

so, being the great girlfriend you are, took it upon yourself to ask him for it

which he gave to you a blushing, stuttering mess

the next game, he was worried

where were you? you weren’t usually this late; the game was about to start and he didn’t even get a good luck kiss yet!

he knows it’s probably nothing strange, that you’re just running late, but he can’t help but worry

the whistle blows and he sighs, getting into position, but not before sneaking one last glance at the bleachers

his sky blue eyes found you instantly, and was that-?

you were wearing his jersey, practically swimming in it as you waved your arm excitedly.

he broke into a wide smile, unfortunately hidden by his helmet, and waved back at you, forgetting all about the game for a moment until his friend whacked him upside the head

he buzzed with anticipation, wanting to just hurry and finish so he could run to you and spin you in his arms

you were his driving motive as he scored touchdown after touchdown, never letting the other team bridge the gap in their points

his team wins unsurprisingly, and the first thing he does is throw down his helmet and run to you, tackling you gently

he sweeps you off your feet and kisses you as you spin, giggles muffled by his lips

hes sweaty and sticky but you couldn’t bring yourself to care, the way his smile lights up the world is all that matters

and he knows that you’re his world, and he’d do anything to make you light up

Checking out of the hospital was easy the alex thought it was going to be, none was the nurses looked at them as they left the room ‘’what are you doing’’ alex asked him mr buckit gave him a look “i'm getting us out of here’’ well yes alex knows that he's not stupid “i mean what are you doing to the nurses’’ he just shook his head and walked to the exit outside mr buckit stopped making Alex bump into him ‘’what the hell don't just stop you wanker’’ mr buckit glared at him “maybe don't walk so close you cox-comb’’ what did he just call him he opened his mouth to give him a piece of his mind but mr bucket rudely interrupted him “where's your car’’ he tried giving him a look of hatred but failed at this sighing he stated walking to his car after checking under the car for any monsters he unlocked at and got in the driver's seat as mr buckit got in the passengers side he managed to pull his hair into a bun revealing his biteab- neck revealing his perfectly normal neck and on his normal neck there lay several burn scars that looked to be made by chains, who the hell would chain this man? Who in their right mind would touch what was his, when he finds out who did this they'd burn in he- “-lex alex” mr buckit was trying to get his attention, alex look at him “who did this to you’’ mr buckit gave him a sad look “it doesn't matter now they're gone” alex shook his head “of course it matters i have to go find there grave and and piss on them” mr buckit look at them the burst out laughing “you are a wonder” tears coming from his eyes and then the car came to life making alex jump looking at the ignition where his key lay which he was very sure they had not be a second ago, he looked back at mr buckit who was smiling and just said “drive’’ and so he did

five minutes into the drive mr buckit turned to him “peragrim” alex looked over then back to the road “what” mr buckit was back to looking sad “my name is peragrim” he looked away from alex looking back to the road “you forgot it” then he was smiling again tho alex saw the sadness still there “but dont worry ill help you remember” alex scoffed “i've not forgotten anything” peragrim was about to open his mouth but alex cut him off “there's an inn, im exhausted we can talk tomorrow” pulling into the parking lot

They hoped out of the car peragrim muttering stuff under his breath opening the door he saw a sign that said “NO MAGIC FOLKS ALLOWED” he heard peragrim go silent then he walked past alex into the hotel

The hotel had one room left and by who every was out there alex prayed that it had either a second bed or a couch because he was not doing that one bed trope bullshit and because someone out there had some very small amount of pity for him when he opened the door there were two beds “i'll take the bed by the door” and put is stuff down and looked back at peragrim who was looking in the mirror, walking over he stood behind the man and saw that peragrim was a inch taller “take a picture it will last longer” peragrim spoke.

he then walked over to alex's clothe bag and unzipped it before alex could grab it from him “what are you doing” peragrim tried grabbing the bag “i'm getting clothe you knob” alex moved the bag as peragrim keep trying to grab it “no these are mine get your own” peragrim look at alex has if he was stupid which he was not “where the hell would i get clothes” alex shook his head “i don't know find out your self” and with that he took the bag and himself to the bathroom slamming the door shut.

After turning on shower to hot he pulled his dirty clothing off and stepped into the water he washed the dirt and blood off his body with the little bottles of soap the hotel put in the room he'd just put some in his hair when a knock came from the door “alex i need to pee” alex yelled back “wait” a groan “i cant i really really need to go” alex sighed “just come in and be quick” the door open and he heard peragrim walk to the toilet then the sound of piss hitting the it and a sound of relief from peragrim and alex cursed as the sound of that sent blood rushing to his nether regions “hurry up and get out” alex yelled at the other man “fine fine just let me wash my hands” he responded the sound of walking then the sink being turned on then off then more walking and the door shutting.

Quickly turning the water to cold he finished his shower and hopped out, throwing on a pear of underwear and sweats and making sure nothing is sticking out he left the bathroom to find peragrim curled up sleeping on the end of the bed alex had claimed and weaning nothing but a pair of boxers and a shirt both of which were alexs.

Alex thought about yanking the shirt off him and pushing him off the bed but decided to go crawl onto the other bed, as he fell into sleep he thought he felt someone crawl in with him.

The forest was dark and he was running the ground painful against his bare and bloody feet he tripped but caught himself, looking over to the pale boy next to him he was lagging behind the chains on his hands looked to be burning as a scream burst from the boys throat Alexander slowing down to grab his friends hand but as he did a root tripped him sending them both down into the ravine below water splashed over his head has he grabbed on to the rock face pulling himself up the mountain his hand bleeding in the snow the wind whiping across his face as a woman sang, her voice a beautiful melody giving him strength to finish pulling himself over the castle wall hitting the dirt jumping up he ran at the tall clocked thief ramming his shoulder into they stomach he sent them both to the ground, as he pulled the chain around their throat choking his enemy as they pulled at the burning metal gasping for breath as the cloak fell to the forest floor the pale boy crying as the metal brunt his body then laying still as the life left his eyes.

Waking up to the smell of food alex wiped away the tears from his eyes he looked over to peragrim who was shutting the door with his foot as he held two plates in his hands “good morning stor i got you some breakfast” he set down the plates on the decks and looked back at alex who got off the bed walked over to him and hit him with a pillow “i” hit “told” hit “you” hit “to” hit “not” hit “take” hit “my” hit “clothe” hit “you” hit “twat”

Peragrim laughed well blocking the pillows “Stop you’ll ruin the food you” alex looked at the food as his stomach grumbled “fine” he dropped the pillow and went to grab a plate when peragrim tried tackling him to the floor he caught himself with peragrim still trying to push him to the floor twisting around he caught the laughing peragrim and spun him around pining his arm to his back and pushing his face into floor, peragrim squirmed under him for a minute then he went still “ok i'm done you can get off now” he said out of breath, alex thought about it for a second then let his arm go but didn't move, peragrim rolled over his chest touching alex's every time he inhaled.

Looking into the pale man's eyes alex found himself enchanted, they where so black that alex didn't see the pupils and the longer he looked alex swore he cout see stars in them, breaking his eyes from the man's eyes he looked down at his lips and as his head screamed at him not to he bent his head to meet the pale mans pressing his lips against peragrims and peragrim returned it with eagerness and then alex came to his senses he pulled back and getting off peragrim he grabbed a chair and sat grabbing a plate and began to eat looking over to the man still on the floor “eat then we can talk about that night with the wolf” his tone of voice neutral. Peragrim got off the floor and grabbed his own plate and sat on the bed, looking down at his food. Alex stabbed his sausage and brought it to his mouth.

Peragrim finished his breakfast first and began walking around the room for there stuff, then walked to the door holding alex's bags “alex come you knob” he called out the left the room what a prick shoving the rest of the of his food in his mouth, then ran out the door.

Peragrim was already getting in the drivers seat and not wanting to argue opened the side door and got in and looking over to peragrim noticed that the man's hair had turned blonde “you can't do that here you knob” he punched him in the arm, peragrim rubbed his arm “och you wanker” alex scoffed “oh please i didn't hit that hard and i saw you holding my bags which are heavy and you held them as if there were full of feathers so don't go around saying och” peragrims responded by punching which just proved alex's point as he was sure that his arm was now going to bruise “ok ok truce” peragrim then turned the car on a speed out if the parking lot almost hitting a old man “so wolves” peragrim said looking over to alex who trying to buckle his sit “slow the fuck down” yelled, which peragrim rolled his eyes at but did as alex said anyways

Alex got his seat buckled then turned to peragrim “you drive like a fucking manic you loon” peragrim smirked “wrong bird” alex ignored that “what the hell happened that night” peragrims smile slide off his face replased by a more series one “you want the truth” alex gaped at him then his voice slightly angry “oh no i just you know spent the last ten years of my life waiting for you to wake just so I could ask you to lie to my fucking face” peragrim gave a small humorless laugh at this “well from what i read last night magic was revealed to the world the night the wolves attacked” alex opened his mouth he already know this “shut your mouth” he shut it “you already know this yes i know you want to know why i came up to you that night why i acted the way i did” alex nodded “yes” peragrim looked at him then back to the road “do you believe in past lives”

Nether spoke for a moment then alex open his mouth “are you saying that you and i know which other in another life” peragrim shook his head “we meet in your past live you where the young son of high ranking noble and i a changeling left to die alone in the cold winter nights until a kind young woman found me and took me home to rise as her own” alex sat frozen a fairy driving his car shit shit this was bad alex had only encountered a fie ones before and he'd barely escaped with his life thank his cold iron knife was in his boot if he cout just grabbed “i'm not going to kill you” spoke the fae and alex calm a just a little as a fae could not lie but why had he asked if alex wanted the truth when he had to give it to him anyways “what do you want with me fairy” the fae looked hurt at this words “i want to protect you” alex scoffed “why there must be a reason a fae would want to protect anyone” the fae smailed looking at alex making heart fluttered at the sight of “because I love you”then he turned back to the road and hit the gas.
