Like dont get me wrong. I like Darcy design wise! They’ve literally been living in my head rent free ever since their first teaser! (It’s a blessing and a curse please send help hshshHahabbfnsuaha)

But I personally feel like plot wise they were kinda lacking :(

And the idea of a bucha a n c i e n t newts consciousnesses invading a 13/14 year old kids mind forcefully is kinda…gross.

So.

I was brainstorming and came up with this:

When the core was first teased. Back in the ye olde days in the pre True colors when the fandom called it the Night-

Im not the only one that thought it was some sorta god right?

A giant mass of orange eyes that a powerful King that ruled for thousands of years kneels down to and calls “Master?”

Idk about you but that gives off omnipotent eldritch horror vibes to me.

So I basically took that concept and expanded upon that and incorporated bits of the lore that Andrias dropped about his kind.

Specifically about how he said that his kind were conquerers.

Why?

Sure. It could purely be a generational trauma thing.

His father did it. His father’s father did it. And his father’s father’s father did it as well.

That could be the end of it.

No one really knows why they conquer and enslave races other than “tradition.”

Maybe Andrias only mentions it all is so he can bask in his triumph. To feel a deluded sense of pride in his lineage for finally being able to continue the work of his forefathers after thousands of years of resentment and regret planted in his mind by his own father that twisted and corrupted his perception on reality.

Maybe Matt just thought those sequences up on the spot and they sorta made sense.

Theres alotta maybes and to my knowledge thats about the extent of it

But im not satisfied with that

So I took that concept. The conquering inter dimensional newts and elevated it.

The core was never a series of Newtopia’s “greatest minds.”

It was always an omnipotent being.

An all seeing all knowing all powerful elderitch horror that is always hungry.

Thats why Andrias’ ancestors invaded other worlds!

Whether it was out of fear or necessity or a deal made with the devil

The reason they invaded is because the core is always hungry. And it needed to feed. So they sacrificed whole worlds to the core just to satiate its ravenous appetite.

And it would explain why in the last season Amphibia was being siphoned for all its resources

Not only was it for the factories, the frobo army, and the mind control devices

It was to stave off the cores hunger until the invasion of earth could surpass

And I didnt forget about all those newts that died and had their brain transferred to the core originally oh nonono

They still sacrificed themselves. But not to join the core or become anything greater. Despite what they believed or what they were promised by the core, Alderitch and all those newts who made up the canon core were nothing more than willing sacrifices to the cores endless hunger. They realistically died for nothing.

So. With this concept/au/rewrite/whatever solves alot of the inconsistencies in the plot and also gets rid of the gross old newts in 13 year olds brain plot

random terraria thoughts

i think i am worlds only terraria player that prefers vanilla (except for the boss FIGHTS in modded) also i really wanna make a more in depth post on why i love 1.4 even if 1.4.4 has some powercreep and gimmicky stuff, it feels... very terraria-y still. its like theyre just going ham just adding stuff that is pure terraria-vibes, yknow?

like, there is not a feeling of like obscene caution towards what they add - merely the right amount of reasonability for a game like terraria ! and... yes, stuff like stardew 1.5, terraria 1.4, minecraft C&C, and even risk of rain SOTV dlc can feel... like a leap in quality, and sorta jump out at you i feel like terraria does the best out of most of those games on just. still feeling coherent? perhaps its because its so incoherent. its like, theres coherence in its' incoherence, you get me? terraria doesnt try to be coherent, so when it adds something that doesnt fuuullly mesh with the game, it oddly ends up... meshing perfectly? sure it feels new age, but it feels Right for the game. it just feels like the games more fresh than it was. maybe its how scattershot their features are sometimes that they end up hitting basically every part of the game in updates, that it doesnt feel like any particular thing got more attention than another similar feature (except shimmer, ill be honest lol) but i dunno, i just like the vibes of terraria. and some of me liking new terraria is just from some very particular good experiences with it, with 1.4s release lining up with me wanting to refresh my experience and... deciding to recontextualize how i play the game from the way i had always played it... i just. think its a great game ! even if i play more like how i used to play and just progress its such a blast. theres like, no way to Not enjoy terraria for me, i think. this post certainly went on a tangent. lol.

okay so crossroads is a little more difficult but to me it sounds like it possibly has the same chord progression ? but i may be speaking out my arse so someone who actually knows what theyre talking abt could draw comparisons.

altho i DO want to talk abt the crossroads track. this is the part where i start bullshitting FULLY. so like smth i LOVE abt it is how very drawn out each note is. like it sets the scene of hk PERFECTLY. its like. the track feels a lot more loose ? i suppose ? than the other songs you wouldve heard by now. which ig feels like it rlly shows how sorta. abandoned and like. i mean “forgotten” the “forgotten” crossroads rlly r. like they have no sorta form left but its clear that crossroads was once a place w a lot more life in it besides the handful of npcs u meet there (well like. yknow. uninfected life). but the one thing abt the crossroads track is that it sounds. calm yknow. which does reflect the crossroads compared 2 the other locations. the enemies there r simple enough to defeat and theres plenty of safe spots. its right under dirtmouth so its (before its infected) the safest area a player will explore for a whileeee. anyways ye the crossroads track is cool.

okay w the false knight battle theme i wasnt RLLY gonna say anything abt it BUT. it does actually have the main theme in it.

oh also in the false knight theme there is this ONE bit that sounded a little like the very beginning of the mantis lords theme to me but idk theyre not the CLOSEST just similar.

anyways next song: greenpath. so i THINK its happened again and THE WHOLE BIG LEITMOTIF IS ONCE AGAIN HERE.

like dirtmouth it is slower and in a different key but thats definitely it. which honestly was unexpected i didnt think it was in any area music. so once again, i think this is in literally almost EVERY track so thats making me more wonder abt the tracks its NOT in. but ill come to that later maybe. what i do want to know is if theres anything else in greenpaths track thats in another song. what im thinking is perhaps therell be a similarity between greenpath and hornets battle music ?

okay this sorta call and response thing here is interesting to me because it sounds veryyyy familiar to me. (everytime i have heard it tho it just sounds like either hornets voice at some point or when sly says gibolen mas sooo take this as u will. i am however listening 2 a couple of hornets lines and the closest i think there is is when she says la fe nuva nido or whatever that gibberish is) anyways the call and response interests me.

anyways more abt greenpaths song in general terms, i do love how this one feels a lot more full of life than crossroads, because crossroads felt very barren w the blue and the brick(?) whereas greenpath is full of life, just in the sense of scenery. its (obviously) a lot greener and full of plant life which already feels loads more alive. and the enemies there also arent simply just husks (AND EVIL SAP MONSTERS) theres like. theres moss creatures and fucking squits and those shooty wall things and just a whole lot more life, and that is reflected very well in the track bc it sounds a lot more full and like it has actual emotion. and even the battle theme (like where u fight the moss knight) is a lotttt more emotional and tense than crossroads’ - which feels a lot more like just sorta. primal fear what with a beat that sounds almost like a heartbeat and the repetitive drums. but greenpaths battle theme is a LOT more lively and dance-like and it has DEPTH. idk i thinkkk im rambling a little but i do love greenpaths contrast with crossroads

OKAY. hornets battle theme. smth obviously noticed a lot before is her theme is comprised of only string instruments (yknow bc. shes a spider n uses a needle and will star in SILKsong so like. yeah. string) ONCE AGAIN. the main motif is in this song surprise surprise. (link)

altho smth interesting abt it is how it changes depending on which half of the theme is playing. for the first half the er. whatever u call the top bit i forgot. is playing it (and im prettyyy sure its a violin or viola or smth similar). but then it switches to the er. bottom line. and is played by a perhaps cello ??? smth lower than the first instrument. and different. which i think is a nice little thing AND is similar to the call and response from greenpath.

thats p much all i can say in terms of “technical” stuff BUT. in terms of vibes. I love how perfect this is for hornets fight. it definitely reflects how shes a lot more agile than the false knight and depends less on pure strength and more on her movement in the arena. i love how very fast paced it is AND HOW HAPPY IT IS. it is a VERY happy piece because hornet is ENJOYING HERSELF. bc yes her and ghost r fighting but she never wants to HURT it (even if i DIED to her like. a million times.) and WE never hurt her, we just beat her (and if ur a speedrunner, bully her in a corner) but she laughs during the fight, she has silly little battle cries, shes having a FUN TIME. which is shown in the music bc its CONSISTENTLY HAPPY. also the very sharp and sorta staccato (see i know SOME music terminology) notes throughout r veryyy fitting for the fights pacing and hornets attacks.

ASTER'S MANSION: this is Aster's (vampire) mansion where Eiden freeloads in Klein - it has space bending spell cast on it - basically the doors can take you anywhere within mansion but that said if we want to we can have that be broken and basically get lost in there bc then the doors can take you just about anywhere in klein like .....idk swamp or something i need to reread that bit from the event but that... could go somewhere?? you may also bump into aster's three wolves aka Momo, Pipi and Bobo, they're not entirely tame but as long as you're not covered in monster piss you're fine???? also eerie escapade monsters from this list might appear maybe you'll bump into some of the clan members with eiden aka mostly the one's that are based here which from the one's that i could include with ease and also could write a little are yakumo (half-serpent youkai) and blade (e-droid) at least maybe???? mayyyybe aster two i have little less confidence on the voice lmao

OLIVINE'S CHURCH: you just might hang out here with some kids, olivine (human with magical powers lol) and eiden??? idk could add the recent downpour for the events with the altar out of whack WOODEN TERRITORY: im looking at the oncoming storyupdate that could potentially affect this in fun way but cant speak bc its oncoming update lol so idk if it'll be there on time but! there's monsters&fauna in here list that appears here - theres specific ones that only appear in solaria ill let you know. this is a forest btw!

We Hunt The Flame and accidental homophobia- a small rambling essay

BIG SPOILERS FOR WE HUNT THE FLAME//

Queerbaiting is a term that kinda varies on meaning from person to person. Personally I think it has a couple meanings, but the one that matters today is bait and switch. This is for all intents and purposes having a queer-coded character than punishing the reader for interpreting them like that. Benefiting from the queer aesthetic and not following through.

So anyways I recently read a book called We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal. It was pretty good, not amazing, but good. And people really like this book. For good reason, I think it’s much better than other novels of its genre.

The problem I have with this novel is pretty small but to me emblematic of a trend in YA Scifi and Fantasy, and that’s queerbaiting/sidelining. You might ask where is this book even remotely queer and I’ll answer that by introducing you to our main problem- Altair.

Altair throughout the novel is a classic YA archetype- the funny man who’s got a hidden badass side, and FUCKS. So basically a sexy crouching moron hidden badass. I usually am not a fan of these characters despite them often being the best in their series. Examples of this character are- Jesper Fahey, and Kenji Kishimoto. (And let's be clear Jesper is a good example of this trope) They usually steal the show away from the other characters by virtue of being more interesting than most of the other characters. And also they’re usually bi-coded.

Maybe it’s cause people associate biseuxal people with a sorta funnyman attitude which is sourced from homophobic tropes but we’re not getting into that today. The problem I have is not following through with this coding.

One of my least favorite thing straight authors pull is the one-off line that this character is queer, and never elaborating on it outside of maybe a line at the end of this character actually doing something queer. This is tokenizing. I shouldn’t have to explain why- but here we go- They’re benefiting off of the reader thinking ‘oh theres a queer character so this book is progressive, and the authors not homophobic But never actually doing anything with that character, they don’t show this character being queer, they don’t have to do the hard thing and research what queer people are like, what being queer is like, what coming out is like. They don’t have to work, and that show’s a lack of giving a shit.

I’m so desensitized to this that I give straight authors a pass when they pull this stuff cause frankly I’m not gonna have every review ranting on why ya book no.45 is homophobic.

But We Hunt the Flame somehow makes it worse, and taints an otherwise good book.

So lets get to it.

Altair is a general, and the Sultan wants him dead, that’s most of what we know about him at first. But we do know that Altair is the closest thing the male love interest has to a friend. And throughout the book they’re kind of a dynamic duo. They chat and banter, and Altair forces him out of his comfort zone more than most of the other characters, cause he’s the only one with that close of a relationship with him. This is kinda required, since the main character has no interest in either of them, seeing as they ‘killed’ her closest friend. And for Nasir to become an attainable love interest for the MC, he needs to be socially loosened up. This is fine, I see the narrative purpose and I actually think it makes both characters better. But here’s the problem- Altair flirts with Nasir very openly, and very brazenly. Which is a normal thing for YA books who employ these tropes. Besides the fact that they have more chemistry than the MC and Nasir, there’s no problem.

Until the reveal.

So YA fantasy tends to feel the need to have huge twists at the end of the story, that changes everything! (except they usually don’t) and dishearten the characters (except when they don’t) and recontextualize the whole story! (except when they don’t) And We Hunt the Flame is no stranger to this.

The Twist?

Altair and Nasir are half brothers.

So any of yall read Cassandra Cla-

I hope I don’t have to explain why this is homophobic but I will cause I LOVE writing this all out

Faizal uses Altair’s flirting to show off a piece of his character, to show him as a funnyman who everyone gets along with. They show it off to show that Altair is not afraid of Nasir, and see’s him as a human being. All of this buildup, the tension, the dynamic, the friendship of Altair and Nasir are at least a little bit romantic coded- and what Faizal does is punish the reader for thinking this. She punishes them by making them brothers. She benefits from the setup, from the characterization that their queerness brings and then slaps away any queer interpretation of these characters pretty soundly.

(Seriously I have no clue why someone would have characters who are sibling have any sort of romantic/sexual comments to eachother UNLESS they’re Cassandra Cla-)

It’s a showcase that these tropes are not only harmful but not productive for your story. Faizal shoots herself in the foot for this one, because her decision to tokenize Altair’s bisexuality, to use it as a joke, ends up with her either looking like she either supports incest, or is homophobic. SHE’S NOT EITHER (I hope) But it makes her look that way, and that’s a shame. It’s plainly just bad writing. Cause there’s a very simple solution to these problems- remove the lines, or remove their brotherhood, and it’s suddenly not homophobic, this bait and switch only makes the novel worse.

And once again, I am not accusing Hafsah Faizal of homophobia, or anything else, I think this is a problem with the YA Fantasy in general. But I want to hold her accountable for this. I don’t know why other’s haven’t mentioned this before, but it needs mentioned.

i was OCposting in the askbox of someone so. this is a compilation of all that, since it basically gives the rundown of their whole deal and maybe some new ideas scattered into it as well. so. long post ahead.

ASK 1:

theres elias (he/she/they); dominic (he/him); marcus (he/him); elizabeth (she/her); andrew (he/him) and amelia (she/her)

theres 2 seperate families within this: the jamesons, which includes elias as the son and andrew+amelia as his parents, and the DeAngelo's which is the 3 others, but theyre siblings instead

the only 2 with personalities right now are dominic and elias, who are also in a situationship with eachother, and will probably remain that way for the rest of time

story's basically just "what if the disgraced son of rich parents who happens to be an owner of a bar/club (elias) meets the guy who mans a stand at a farmers market (dominic). and what if they were both t4t. and what if they ended up being workplace lovers/friends w benefits"

elias is lowkey a very unlikeable and bitter guy, very self centered and speaks without thinking. dominic's the reserved type who only speaks when spoken to, but very willing to resort to violence when needed.

also for context: the onyx magpie is the name of the bar elias owns. and sometimes elias IS a magpie so. yeah.

around a month ago i wrote 2 paragraphs leading up to the first meeting from each others pov. this was still when it was all brainstormy but the ideas are all there. i hope. enjoy? i have no clue how much or how little this actually makes sense w/o prior context

elias has rich parents. maybe his father's a politician and his mother's a ceo of sorts for. something. this man is an only child and i want it to show. growing up in a big house, alone, while his parents are often away for work. so hes also very independent. and somehow it doesnt hurt as much as it shouldve when they look at him in disgust later on in life. he was alone growing up. if they didnt care for him, why should he care for their opinions of him? ... maybe.. maybe he stops coming home for the holidays. maybe they dont know his name. maybe they dont recognize him when he passes them on the street.. but... maybe he does. and maybe it finally stings. just a little bit too much. and.. maybe he should grab a drink. his bar is just around the corner anyways. or hell, even man the bar counter. to get his mind off things.

as for dominic... i know i want him to have a brother and a sister. probably the middle child between the 3. older brother, younger sister. not many ideas about his parents as of yet. probably alive though. maybe they all grew up farmers. he knows his agriculture, maybe favors the cattle, wanting to give them a good life before they get sent to the slaughterhouse. maybe goes into the city once a week to man a stand in the farmers market. meats, crops, milk, eggs. the like. maybe gains a few friends with the regulars there, or the other shopkeepers. maybe starts going into the city more because of said friends. maybe they convince him to go out and celebrate one day. maybe he hit a T milestone. 5, 10 years? maybe more, maybe less, but still a reason to celebrate. and hey, has he ever been to that bar? maybe they tell him that sometimes, if his lucky stars align, the boss of the place could be the bartender. maybe they joke that if they tell him of the big day, he'd get a free drink or two. the place is just down the street, his friends know the way. they deserve a treat.

in short: elias has a dogshit gender dysphoria day and is about to be the bartender for dominic whos out there just sorta chilling and living the dream and just wants to get drunk with his buddies

and later on as the plot progresses, dominic gets a job at said bar as a bouncer. so thats how they become workplace boyfriends lmao

the relationship between them is complicated at best and a miserable maze to navigate at worst. sure its not abusive, but i struggle to say its healthy </3 in a different au it is. but thats just an au sooo...

i like to think that elias is far too self centered to even WANT to change. he is so deeply bitter and hurt by his parents that he doesnt understand, *cant* understand that someone would want to genuinely help him.

he thinks dominic befriended him for the easy job that pays well, that he just likes the sex, that hes pretending to do all this for some free drinks.

he doesnt understand true love and he spits on the mere idea of it. if true unconditional love was real, his parents wouldnt have kicked him out, he wouldnt have grown up to constant screaming and crushing loneliness. he just doesnt understand and full on refuses help. refuses any much-needed therapy. who needs that when hes got a pack of cigarettes in his purse and cheap wine on hand

hes just a cranky little guy in the main story. its kinda funny how in the other aus hes completely fine, simply because his parents were slightly different. like hes living his best life in the royalty au simply because the circumstances are slightly altered lol

also idk if i mentioned this anywhere so nows as good as time as any: elias dresses like a y2k girlie. all neons and miniskirts and makeup and dominic looks like hes a father of 4 on a roadtrip. but they primarily wear the colour of each others eyes. but they dont know that. "just feels right"

idk im still very much so throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what sticks, such is the joy of OCs

Omfg... Rena presenting that satoshi expressed wanting to be free from his family sometimes and she thinks that he might think about running away is CRAZY cos we just spent the whole tatarigoroshi convincing us as keiichi that No that definitely didnt happen he was brave until the end. I always assumed he was definitely dead n gone for good and maybe its just seeing his face but im recalling the older chapters and people seem to believe he will come backNO CHARLIE THATS JUST KEIICHI. Keiichi does believe that bcs well he doesnt know shit. But i was keiichi for several hours so i couldnt tell the difference. Ugh i hate this game. Song analysis #3 God of Loss

this is fanart of @brightgoat​‘s ask blog @askcupsandcasinos​, a few of the photos I drew were HEAVILY inspired by some of the stuff Bright's drawn so please check out the original blog. 

I think this Lyric\song title relates to Mugman because of his whole ‘spade’ aesthetic, as we know, according to Brightgoat and king Dice, spades are often associated with death and loss. The whole ‘God” part of this title is more or less ironic, after Mugmans little break down when he and cups visited Quadratus, we now know that he’s still suffering from PTSD and is looking to achieve something more then a mere mortal should, which as Quadratus stated will only end in his demise. Making the title of “god of loss” a perfect fit for the mug.

“My father was a carpenter My mother, she died young”

These lyrics essentially just talk about Elder Kettle. He was Mugman and Cupheads Parental figure. He may not have been a “carpenter” but I see that line as more saying that he was humble and a hard worker, instilling these qualities into Mugman & Cuphead (well more or less). “My Mother she died young” is rather self explanatory, even though Elder Kettle didn't die young, he did pass away when the boys were relatively young, which was equally crushing to Cups and Mugs as a guardian dyeing young, if not more because they had no one left. 

“I’m the eldest of my brothers You’re the trouble in my blood Trouble in my blood”

this line also feels self explanatory but I’ll explain it any way. 

Its basically just stating facts, Mugman is “technically older” then cuphead “by like, a minute or something”. Aaaand Cuphead is usually seen as the trouble maker f the 2 whos always getting them roped into trouble. Which I think Mugman, just judging by the way he treats Cuphead does believe that cuphead is trouble.

This also refers to how Mugs’ ancestors and his relation to him has and will cause nothing but trouble. 

“I swore that I’d stay humble Like my father was before He built the home I live in Of sand and mud and smoke Sand and mud and smoke “

This line correlate’s to Elder Kettle having been a very simple and kind man and how the boys see him in a good light. It also serve as an ironic statement as we all know Mugmans main sin is pride.

I see this line as more about Elder Kettle and Mugs’ ancestors and their effect on them, how they helped shape and build Mugs into the person he is. It also seems like a reference to the Bible and how Adam, the first human, was created. In the Bible God made him by taking, I think it was dust I'm not sure though, from the ground and created man, which I think is close enough to “Sand & Mud & smoke” to have a correlation as all those things come from the earth. I figured a reference to the Bible was fitting considering the whole ‘heaven and Hell’ theme.

“Yes, we will leave here without a trace Take a new name and an old shape”

This line correlates to Mugmans fear of death...or more a fear of being forgotten and not accomplishing anything notable his life before passing. It also correlates to Elder Kettles death and how he just disappeared, everything and everyone related to him went missing after his death.

This line refers to the parallels between Cuphead & Mugman vs The legendary chalice and her mystery friend whos been hinted at a few times. How their personalities kind of line up, Cuphead & Chalice being the more outgoing risk takers and Mugman & mystery cup being the prideful scientist’s. Meaning Cups & Mugs are the “new names” but really thanks to their ancestors giving them their signature soul powers, are living in “old shapes’ so to speak. Did any of that make any sense??? anyway moving on

(Eheheh this is my favorite verse it fits so well >:D)

So this just refers to 3 of the main 4′s roles (Devil, King Dice, Mugman) and kinda, maybe, sorta Mug mans internal thoughts. King Dice is a well known and respected outlaw\criminal as we know, having been having been “outlawed across half the globe” if I'm remembering correctly. The Devils whole thing is that he’s a renegade, fighting against his fathers oppressive rule to create change... even if what he’s doing is ultimately pointless. Lastly Mugman. The line relating to him I've already touched on but again its and of more ironic if anything. Mug man is simply the “god of loss”. 

“So meet me by the river On a boat-shaped piece of earth We press our bones together And the spider does its work With flakes of garlic And petals from a rose If it’s small enough to carry You and I can call it home You and I can call it home”

okokok theres a lot to cover here ahhhh...  

“So meet me by the river” could hint at the river of souls running through purgatory, not particularly relevant but considering that's were the Chalice is, its an important setting in the story so that makes this line relevant. 

“We press our bones together” could reference just the characters and how their dynamics help progress the story, haha that comparison is kind of a stretch though. “And the spider does its work” I think refers to the devil (you know how his head can shape shift into a spider and all-) and his family and how their busy in the background, doing things mugs doesn't really understand or know of yet, which have the possibility of negatively impacting the brothers.

“If it’s small enough to carry You and I can call it home”

this refers to how the mystical inkwell and indirectly the memories the brother carry of Elder Kettle, allow them to find ‘home’ anywhere as long as their with each other and have their basic necessities met. The inkwell is small & their memories require no space to take with them, along with the fact that if they could utilize the inkwell they could create a home, and whole worlds for themselves.

Hi, for the character opinion bingo, how about Brunnhilde?

OH HELL YEAH!!! LETS GOOOOOOOO

My dude I have not talked about this King in so long and with the release of the Thor Love and Thunder trailer I'm so excited to see her on screen again. I've missed her so much. I almost got a bingo on this card, because I really do like her in a team dynamic, but Brunnhilde is also one of the few characters that I can read for that absolutely does not need any of the other lead characters in the fic. I don't know if I've really talked about how much I love her arc here. I know I've done so in the past- but Brunnhilde and Thor's character arcs are nearly the same. We just didn't get to see her's play out on screen. I mean we sorta did. We know she was the leader of the Valkyries and helping to carry out Odin's conquest, at least thats the impressions I've always gotten from the flashback sequences. But then of course that all goes south and I can only assume she exiles herself until she stumbles into Sakaar, but it takes Thor desperately asking for her help to give her the push to start getting back to herself. She's still not the same person, she probably doesn't even give her real name to Thor, Bruce and Loki (Thats the only reason I can think of that no one adresses her by name after two movies and over 5 years passing since their first meeting), but she's making progress. She steps into this new version of herself, maybe more suspicious and jaded than before, but a leader and probably a compassionate and determined one at that. Dude I think about those five years she spent building New Asgard and watching Thor slip into that depressive state he found her in so much. Their relationship is so important to me and I know its not going to come up in the new movie, but I wish we could see some of that. How important their friendship has been for both of them recovering from their past traumas and overcoming new ones. I trust Taika to give us hints of it, but I still remember how many of the fans seemed to cut her out of the narrative completely when Thor Ragnarok came out. Brunnhilde is a character that I pay close attention to how people critique her, and write her in fanfiction. If the complaint is that she's introduced as the Strong or Angry Black woman stereotype, then absolutely go off, I feel that is a valid criticism, especially because the only way we see her addressed other than by Scrapper 142 is Angry Girl. However, I like to think that she herself has moved away from that, and Professor Hulk calling her that in Endgame speaks more to how out of touch with everyone he is (guy didn't bother to check in on Thor either so like???? but I also don't think the writers thought that through and I am absolutely giving them too much credit). This is quickly going to turn into me getting frustrated with the way friendship is shown with the Avengers so I'm going to move on to the fanfiction and how fans do her dirty. I am INCREDIBLY picky when it comes to Brunnhilde fanfic, and theres a handful that I constantly go back and read- (Go read Better Laté than Never on AO3 I promise you will not be disappointed) but a lot of the ones I find either end up making her seem preditory, or just straight up a bitch and its so exhausting and frustrating to come across. I trust very few people to write Brunnhilde with nuance and accuracy. She's such an interesting character with such an interesting story, and the parallels between her struggles and Thor after Infinity War are so nice and I can literally talk about her for ever. Theres a shot of her in the new trailer fighting the main antagonist and let me just say, I have never felt so much fear for a character than in that moment. I trust Taika, and I know I need to chill, but the last thing I want is for her to get so roughed up she's taken out of the plot and used as motivation for Thor and Jane, or worse killed for their development. I did not mean to ramble this much, I don't even know if any of this makes sense, but I feel like the MCU is just setting her to the side so often, and fans are even worse.

1. Nah but i agree tho, hermes and persephone in lo just have more chemistry and actual history/compatibility that she just doesnt have with hades, and the same can be said with hades and hera. its just wild the whole point of the comic is supposed to be about hxp and yet theyre so boring//illogical meanwhile decent writing goes into them being with other people.

2. LO is supposed to have modern values, yet the gods, or at least hades, are authoritarians? like the denizens of the underworld do not like him, so they have every right to question persephone and see if shes actually going to be a good queen to maybe make their lives better and not just someone to aide in hades' abuses of powers, and it's pointing towards the latter. how is this "progressive' if it promotes absolute monarchs are allowed to do whatever they want and face no consequences for it?

3. so much of what could have been interesting design symbolism is just gone. persephone and hades were dressed in white and black to look like a bride and groom? now every guy wears a black suit and the women all wear white, no matter the relationship. the red eyes are to symbolize persephone's inner darkness and feelings? theyre just slapped on at random now. her hair length lost all meaning. persephone isnt even a unique color anymore. any thought that was once there is just gone now.

4. good lord the person who interviewed rachel for that fancast is kissing her ass hard, arent they? people have been fancasting their stuff for years now, even when it's just for themselves, she's hardly the first or most important person to do so, esp when it comes with some, ahem, rather racist undertones. why are most if not the only people of color the villains or hypersexual compared to the pale and pure persephone? rachel please check your internalized biases here for a second, please.

5. Maybe it's unwarrented, but the non-greek names of some of the nymphs pisses me off to no end, and I'm not even Greek. They feel so out of place! Why does EVERYTHING have to be Americanized?!?!

6. the flying stuff persephone does also is such a dumb cop out? like one of the most iconic things in myth is the chariots and their animals, including demeter having flying snakes. plus shes not even unique in it either? like hermes flies, so does zeus and hades and im sure basically everyone else, so who cares? how is it a big deal if persephone does it? doesnt that also just make the powers of the gods less unqiue? like so whats so special about hermes then?

7. does anyone know why hxps first meeting was retconned tho? bc them meeting with cerberus is still something webtoons clings to advertise it yet thats not canon anymore bc they met way earlier with persephone being naked, him drunk, and her possibly being underage at the time too?? like theres so many dumb writing choices in this series but retconning the one iconic part in nearly 4 years of publishing for a creepy new version that just makes the series more confusing is so??? why???

8. Okay the shading on Persephones outfit with her pink skin tone makes the outfit look pink as Well.

Also lmao Hades outfit makes him look like a military dictator not a king. The tassels on the coat make it seem like hes going to war not to court.... Well I guess he is sorta declaring war on Zeus by not backing him and protecting Persephone - whos currently a "traitor to the triarchy".

(Also why is Persephone so Tiny next to him?? I can't be the only one who thinks she looks like a child?? Or young teen and not a young woman?)

Whyre people getting mad at Demeter? Shes a mom. She was worried about Persephone. And yeah, maybe the questions arent the "most pressing" but if I was Demeter I too would be wondering where my (basically) teen daughter was staying (with a friend or 40 yr old man who you barely know).

And considering Demeters insistence on whether Perse was with Hecate makes me think Hecate lied to Demeter - so shes likely covering Hades and Kore's asses because she knows its creepy and that if Demeter knew the truth she would (rightfully) freak out. (And I would also be concerned with why the underworld staff are referring to my daughter who I haven't seen in weeks as "my lady" and (I know she didnt hear this, but) why the king of the underworld is referring to Perse as "his wife" even mistakenly).

another thing thats happened is my mom i think had am addictive personality cause for awhile she smokes wayyy too much then it was drinking now its vaping. or i guess she just always needs a vice? is that the right term? her mom was like that too. and it was to the point where she was addicted to her painkillers and i was probably 11 when my mom explained to me that my grandma was lying to doctors to get higher doses. 11 yr olds shouldnt be hearing that. and then theres my dad...he claims he stopped smoking but i know he started again, but not cigs he has like a dab pen. it honestly it really hurts that he lies about it and my grandma (his mom) doesnt know so i feel like whenever she says something about him stopping im like covering for him

and me too girl. i jump whenever my parents say anything to me. im terrified of their voices

My mom used to smoke too but when she was bald from chemo, out on her balcony chain smoking (which was really something to see if I’m being honest) her friend dragged her to a vape shop and she vapes now. We’re very happy about that because progress. And vice is the right word there. My dad used to smoke too but the man legit just went cold turkey one day. He terrifies and astounds me.

If you don’t wanna lie to your grandma just sit there, smile, nod your head and occasionally hum affirmatively. Still not great but maybe that way you’ll feel less guilty?

The prescription thing I totally get and I’m so sorry she forced that on you so young. My family also has a history with addiction and I’ve just always sorta known about it, not in an unhealthy way but in an informative, know not to pop pills because chances are you’re gonna end up addicted sorta way.

Also implying that over time like a snakeskin, Canon will just always degrade to being Non Canon, until its unceremoniously shaken off all at once and becomes Canon but Different each time

Man baby Tavros is just like, exactly like a baby Jake, is he gonna get nicknamed too? or not a problem since Troll Tavros isnt around anyway?

Actually, related: Names being associated with Heart should have been obvious all this time as Unique Identifiers seperating seperate people and identities like the walls between Souls, but it’s nice to have that sorta made explicitly clear, can probably add Names next to Heart’s symbols like Hats

and from that, People sharing the same unique identifier, like all Dirk’s simply being called Dirk, is probably referencing that they are all each part of the Hive-MIND of the being called Dirk

I do remember that once in Homestuck Brain Ghost Dirk was labeled as the full title, even when him and real Dirk never interacted, but now here he is just simply Dirk.

Now that I’ve been introduced to all three of the Kids I’m definitely gonna keep my eyes on any classpect stuff for them, which may or may not be relevant ever at some point in this comic maybe? Cuz like, Dirk and Terezi and Rosebot are all up to starting another session and Homesquared so far feels very like the “Journey of the Second Generation” and we just know theres bound to be sburb stuff happening sometime

With the main juicy tidbit being, are their classpects just gonna be mixes of their parents? Unique to them but also with the influence of the parentage, or are they gonna be entirely different?

Like, Harry just from first impression I can definitely see as being a Rogue of Breath, it’s fitting so far

Tavros then could either be a Maid of Hope or a Page of Life, tho I’m HEAVY leaning towards Maid of Hope seeing as that progression would be “relying on others at first for their hope, then learning to create hope for themselves” versus Page of Life being someone incompetently acting out confidence and authority until they gain a truer understanding of it and become rulers in their own right

Like how Aranea was to Vriska, they have that looking up to the other and modeling after their behaviors as a role model dynamic going on, so in all likelihood Vrissy is at least a Light player, but I guess in the troll’s case the class is more up to the individual in question, but Vrissy will no doubt be trying to act out her own Class through seeing the comparisons in Vriska’s Behaviour, same as Vriska Molded her image of Her Ancestor as Thief-like growing up despite Aranea actually being a Sylph, so we may get more clues to Vrissy’s class by seeing how Vrissy idolizes and embellishes what traits she sees in Vriska, so far, she seems to be focusing on how Vriska kills bad people and is straight to the point about it, so nothing really yet. Vrissy seems to be really acting confident around Vriska, but not sure if that’s because she doesn’t really think Vriska is all that cool, or she does and is trying to impress her (The latter being very Vriska behaviour lol)

“ VRISKA: If you want to keep Hanging Out, I mean. Which I assume you Do. “ comes to mind, so definitely think this is Vrissy’s behavioural attempt at wanting in with the Cool People. Try to clarify that she is wanted from the people she values without coming off as wanting to want it haha

Overall she is definitely quite confident and is very open with what she knows and what she doesn’t, suggesting perhaps a Page-y behaviour? we’ll see

it would be like, a perfect little mirror for Vriska to see a younger healthier more stable version of herself literally acting and being like the thing she used to hate and torment herself and others about

Yeah it is pretty comfortable behavior for a Maid class that isn’t confident to be more confident being led by someone, then again that is also pretty normal behavior for someone who has been abused like Tavros has been.

Hmmm, We get into the nitty gritty of what trauma might do to a person’s classpect as well, assuming the system is more nurture based than predestined nature based. I still lean towards it being predestined nature based, you were always going to be who you ended up being etc Homestuck is just like that after all where Nurture is valued and is absolutely an influence, but with Nature being tied up in timelines and predestination, its just sort of already taking Nurture into account when it’s basing on Nature, Nurture is just inherently a part of Nature already and etc

Imode, Silas and Avril are all 5 letter names, wonder if theres any significance to that? I’m reminded of 5 being a number that pops up in Hiveswap a lot, wonder if it just means “Normal Human bullcrap” in symbolism terms

hi hi! as i mentioned earlier, i wanted to talk about my specific timeline so you guys are more or less aware of my situation when sending asks! thats me up there! the best doggy girl around ;o

as far as i am aware, theres not much of a difference between mine and... other timelines as far as the game goes! we beat sburb, we arrived to earth-c, we settled down, you know! the usual! i have my tower on a nice island, but its so far away from everything i barely go there, its... lonely!

i have a smaller house in the troll kingdom though! its a bit on the outskirts and like ten minutes away from dave and karkats, but i still crash at theirs or roses or roxys or johns way more often... X) its pretty standard all things considered, but i do have a bit of a basement lab to mess around with some side-projects of mine!

that aside... lets see...

thats john! my lovely ecto-bro! :D hes been a bit down in the dumps for a while so i try to cheer him up and keep him company <3 he lives in the outskirts of the human kingdom bordering with the consort kingdom, in a little mixed village... recently hes started to grow his hair out a bit too! i swear its just laziness so he doesnt have to take care of that messy mane, but i do think itd look cuter longer sooo...

he doesn’t... do much, which is why i have been trying to cheer him up and be around lately! he’s a bit more active at least and talks with the others, but i do wanna encourage him more >:/

5/8/20 edit: thats june egbert, my adorable ecto-sis whom i adore so so so so very much!!! weve been hanging out a bunch since her latest birthday!

shes been doing a lot better! more energetic, more open about the things that worry her... i only wish her the best of the best for the future, and im sure well be having lots of fun together from now on! :D

of course theres dave and karkat!!! they live together in the troll kingdom and have the moooost adorable domestic life i have ever seen, swoooon~ that being said theyre two awkward bottoms that couldnt realize their feelings even if they wrote a heartfelt love letter to each other and read it aloud, soooo its a... work in progress! i have tried nudging things along but thats an even worker in progresser, whoops

they also dont do much other than laze about most of the time, but dave has some creative side-projects with music and art that he shows me from time to time!

rose and kanaya maryam-lalonde!!! two absolutely lovely ladies whom i looove very very much! ;o their place is at the carapace kingdom, but kanaya spends a good deal of time in the brooding caverns as the matriarch of the troll race! i helped them install a transportalizer to speed things up so they have more time for each other, if you catch my drift ;)

about a year ago or so, rose got really sick for a short while, but she recovered and has been her usual lovely self since! since that scare though, they have been considering the idea of expanding their family! they could adopt of course, but they wanna try other stuff first! i occasionally help kanaya at the caverns with ectobiology machinery trying to find a way to properly mix troll and human genes, but its not exactly... easy

those are jane and jasprose! janes technically my mom but ive always seen her as a sort of cousin! we dont chat much but shes not bad! jasproses... well, you know! a wild kitty girl that knows how to have fun, hehehe, i hang out with her far more than my doggy alignment would have you know! ;o

a while back jane seemed pretty serious about running for office, and maybe because rose was in a bad spot or something, but jasprose started to pop up more and more often in public, and specifically messi around with jane? eventually she seemed to just lose interest in politics entirely and, while they havent said anything officially, i heard the cheshire cutie pops over by janes way too often to be just friendly visits ;o

roxy and callie!!! both of them came as non-binary around the same time, probably after talking it out for a while! hehe, rox has got that strider style going, and callie has been wearing their old wig more often in public! roxy and i have been messing around with their old lab equipment trying to give callie a fun surprise, but as it turns out messing around with basic biology with tech made to be used by 13 years old requires a looooot of tinkering... maybe some time?

i love them a bunch! theyre not really together i dont think so? but im pretty sure theyre more than just good friends that live together! im pretty sure callies still experimenting with identity and labels so, i wont pry really!

two cool dudes~ jake and dirk are nice, dirks a bit shy but ive gotten him to open up about robotics and we talk from time to time! jakes pretty much like jane, i pretty much see him as my cousin! we go hiking around from time to time in the weekends im not busy doing other stuff! :B

dirk got really concerned about rose when she had her episode, but dave helped him keep his cool about whatever was going down, and they hang out about once a month or so! also i was never sure whether dirk and jake USED to be dating or are STILL dating or whatever but, hey, much like with rox and callie, im not gonna pry!

tereziiiii :( shes away from earth-c plundering the corpse of paradox space! we barely see her but we keep in contact and send her supplies out into the furthest ring!

we worried for a bit that she was focusing too much on vriska and harming herself being out there, we kind of made it work in the end! some of our other friends are still out there and theres the possibility of finding some weird remnant of a timeline or something, so she keeps watch in case she can guide someone still living or trapped back to safety... and in the meantime she keeps watch for vriska, too, of course- ugh, i sorta just wish she got back already, im sure her being around would also encourage john to be more active! but as long as shes safe...

davepeta!!! the coolest cat around B) ive not... seen them in person since our little encounter near the green sun, but, terezi bumped into them a while back and sent a selfie! i dunno what theyre doing out there, but they mentioned about popping by earth-c eventually, sooooo, weve been holding onto a welcome celebration for a few months now!

and i think thats all? uuuh, if i can think of anything else i will add it, and you guys can ask me anything that wasnt clear or to elaborate on other stuff! hope this gives all of you a better picture of whats been going on in my life! :p

hdsfjdsf helo i am Back 2 ramble abt my ideas :] uhh this might b a bit more scattered then last time bc i dont have as solid of an idea for the rest of the story so this might b more just talking abt concepts more then anything else sweats (i have ideas involving gameplay and all here too so i might fit that in somewhere)

SO we left off w/ divinus telling yuelia and the protag that he figured out lava lamp dragon (hdxkgfdg thats its name now i have decided everyone settled on calling it lava lamp dragon) can go poof between dimensions w/e it wants and theyre all just there like "well fuck this aint good" bc this means the drago can now go w/e it wants basically to get itself more energy, and the protag is just like "ok well i can go chase after i-" but then divinus shuts the protag down saying that they still dont know what this drago is abt or where it came from or even what it wants to Do exactly and that its too dangerous for a human like them 2 go after

after that the protag is walking back 2 castele with their arms crossed all >:[ bc Divinus Wont Let Them Chase After Lava Lamp Dragon, and yuelia notices and says "hey, it's nothing personal [player]... not even me and lili could stand up to that thing. i think he's just trying to look out for you." and thats not. Extremely relevant or anything i just had the idea for that dialogue in my head

yuelia splits up w/ the protag once they get back 2 town 2 go uh. Do Stuff and the protag just stands there for like 2 seconds before thinking 'ok im gonna find a way to travel 2 a different dimension Myself if nobody else is gonna help' so uhhh Commence Research Montague (i dont actually know how they figure out this thing yet ok just pretend they found an old book on it or somethin) and after looking around they find a source talking abt some sealed up treasure that probably has the kind of thing theyre lookin for oh boy!!!! but they dont recognize the location, and so they ask around 2 a few other ppl who end up suggesting they ask lili since she travels around a lot and might recognize it

and lili's doin mostly ok by this point, shes awake and can move around fine and all but ppl still want her 2 rest 2 regain Al her strength before goin out adventuring again or anythin (despite her protests otherwise jfgkdfg) so the protag goes up and asks lili if she knows abt the location they found, and lili thinks for a moment before responding that she recognized the description where what theyre lookin for might be and has a vague idea where she might b able 2 find it, and then looks at the protag all like "why are you so curious about this place?" so the protag ends up explaining what happened with divinus and how they think if they find the Thing in this Place that itll make them able 2 help stop lava lamp dragon, and lili goes like 'hm' and sits there for a minute before going "you know im going to come with you, right?"

dsjsdkf and even if the protag tries 2 argue w/ lili shes like Set on coming bc she wants to see what the fuck this thing is too, so lili gathers her gear and her and the protag sneak out of town 2 go explore spooky place ooo!!!!! so after making it thru the Place (i um. havent decided what it is yet maybe a sort of ruins or cave) at the end u notice that there Is somethin at the end there, so u go up and investigate and it turns out its some kind of funky lookin gauntlet and the protag just goes 'oh cool!' and puts it on immediately and um side note this gauntlet May be slightly cursed and you May not be able to take it off once u put it on but ykno still thinkin on that part

so ANYWAYS the protag puts on the gauntlet and lili goes "oh wow we actually Found something here! we just, uh.... need to find out what it does now, i guess." so the protag thinks for a moment, before deciding to see what happens if they hit something w/ the gauntlet, so they smack the wall w/ their hand and BOOM the wall cracks open 2 make way 2 a portal 2 an unknown world that the protag and lili end up getting pulled into

and um. this is the part where most of my concrete ideas for Story kinda end but my idea for this world was sorta like what reveria would look like if celestia hadnt come in 2 help everyone by creating lives so like. mostly nature and not much of civilization to see except for the occasional ragtag group of survivors but also ofc not just reveria itll also b its own world w/ its own unique stuff 2 it and all, i just thought itd b interesting 2 explore what would have happened if celestia never came 2 help reveria in the first place

so basically then its just lili and the protag exploring this new world, meeting a group of survivors that explain everything that happened in this world and all and u try 2 help them out before u head back (considering having something of a Lava Lamp Dragon Encounter here, not rlly a fight persay but you might spot it from afar and try 2 chase before it escapes)

after u make it back 2 castele Not Dead lili mentions to the protag she wants to look into that gauntlet they found more mostly bc shes never seen or heard of it before (and shes been a lot of places) and wants to be sure it doesnt have like Sinister Origins or anything

and basically after u unlock another world thru Story Progression ur essentially free 2 stop at any time and go back 2 explore that place, u can like go there 2 complete quests and theres also somewhat of a Side Story in each world where u can learn more abt the world and also help the ppl solve some other issue they got going on in their world Aside from the lava lamp dragon that might b planning on destroying everything (so for example in the first world their issue would be that uh. theres a lot of monsters everywhere)

the second world ive been thinkin could b somethin of a steampunk world with legally required scrappy mechanic and a tiny robot friend named beep bop bip (bip for short) and uh. the third world is the one ive thought out the least but i wanna go for some kind of Mythical foresty place, maybe with non human inhabitants like bird ppl or somethin

and then the 4th world (the final one u unlock) i want 2 b all spooky and ominous, bc thats the world that the final boss is going to happen in where u fight Lava Lamp Dragon for the last time

so that sorta. all i have in terms of ideas for now i think?? unless im forgetting something jdfgkdg but i definitely think i wanna go w/ the whole celestias sister being behind this thing bc that would be a very interesting thing 2 explore........ at the end i feel like celestias sister would b like trying 2 command lava lamp dragon but it has gone cazy w/ power and ends up not listening 2 celestias sister so the protag is just (pulls out sword) "guess im gonna have to save you from your own hubris" and UM another side note but i also do wanna include the guys from the first fl game too jdfgkd there is just a Lot and it is kinda complicated 2 try and fit everyone in when the story is sorta still a wip so they are There. Somehow

im thinkin abt that cursed gauntlet idea atm and idk if thats like. Generic or not but i feel like it would be interesting if the protag somehow just forcibly got themselves involved in this whole thing w/ celestias sister and Lava Lamp Dragon just by getting this gauntlet stuck on them jdfgdlgk but yea either way im donw now woo!! no more ramble

The protagonist sounds quite lively in your story xD putting on the gauntlet just because it looks cool. I think the gauntlet should jump at the protag instead, or maybe it could be alive, like it came from the other dimension to search for a hero/chosen one and our protag happens to be there. It would be like yuelia/flutter and dogu.... But a gauntlet I guess xD

(Also it would cool if the gauntlet can control the protag too, like once you reach the final boss battle, the protag lost control and we have to play as our old protagonist, lili in this case. Or the other way round. I just love it when games makes us battle our previous protag. ❤️❤️)

But a dimension where celestia didn't come to reveria sounds interesting! ... there's so much you can make of it! The current characters in reveria would still exist in the other dimension but living their life differently!
