Okay, like, my parents are Italian, I grew up in Germany and I am learning Japanese and I know English...but none of these languages are perfect...ahahaha….

Your head laid on your husband’s shoulder why you shut close your eyes and entangled his hand with yours.

,,Are you nervous?’’ he asked you and kissed your forehead.

,,No, with you by my side I am okay,’’ you told him as his private Jet flew up in the air.

Both of you just said ,,Yes,’’ to each other in front of God and now both of you were on your way to Europe for your honeymoon.

,,I love you, thank you for making this day so special for me,’’ you honestly told him and began to open your mouth wide to get rid of the pressure on your ears.

,,Hahaha...this and more, my love,’’ he confessed.

You slept for a few hours and then finally landed in Italy, your first destination.

Rome was a beautiful place.

The night view was making you breathless even though you were sleepy.

,,Let’s get a good rest and enjoy everything tomorrow,’’ he told you.

That’s exactly what you did.

You slept for eight hours straight and woke up for the most beautiful brunch in your little house.

The air in Italy was totally different, the coffee smell and the sound of the Vespa made you feel special.

The little Italian grandmas saying something to each other and the little streets taking you to the most hidden and romantic places.

The honeymoon with Jumin was something special and time seemed to go over like a nice evening between friends: too quickly.

You went up to Austria and Germany, enjoying the time in the capitals and listen to the story about the world wars.

,,I want to see Denmark again Jumin!’’ you said on your way back to Korea.

Maybe you should stop expressing your wishes so easily for Jaehee’s sake, three weeks later you were in Denmark again and she was overworked with Jumin’s work too.

Zen

,,Are you sad?’’ you asked him on your way to the Airport in the Taxi, stroking his arm.

,,No, why? I am here with you and married you, my wife...my beautiful wife,’’ he whispered and kissed you, expressing all his love for you with that simple kiss.

,,Why should I be sad?’’ he laughed and stroked your cheek.

,,Because I am here but I can’t replace your family...they didn’t come…’’ you whispered.

You felt bad for him as if it was your fault.

,,You are my family now. I made you wait long enough till this day, okay? Just be happy, yes? I love you a lot,’’ he told you.

You decided to trust him and ignored this on your way to Jeju.

,,Are we really supposed to wear them?’’ you asked your husband, Zen.

It was so weird saying husband now after you said fiancé for such a long time…

But the time finally came true.

,,Yes, we are finally Mr. and Mrs. Ryu, everyone should know now, sleep a bit, it’s good for your eyes and-’’

,,Okay, hubby!’’ you stopped him and took the eye mask out of his hand, putting on the mask and closing your eyes, hand in hand with your husband.

Zen and you finally arrived in Jeju and took a bus back to the Pension you would stay.

,,The house is so cute!’’ you exclaimed as you looked around, throwing yourself in the soft bed and inhaling the fresh scent.

Both of you enjoyed the place.

You looked at the sunset together, ate outside talking over and over again about your wedding, the past, and your future.

Even though Zen hated it, you two went into the sea and enjoyed the salty water, attiring a lot of eyes on your beautiful skin.

You guys also had a lot of memorable nights together.

The days in Jeju were so beautiful and after the Fire Festival, you two realized that it was really time to go back to Seoul.

But you promised each other to never ever forget the amazing time you had there and really go back there.

Yoosung

,,Woah, I knew that Japan is beautiful, but I never realized that Japan was actually that amazing!’’ you gasped when you and Yoosung were seated below a cherry blossom tree, looking up to the pink colors over your head.

Yoosung chuckled as he put a Mochi in his mouth.

The Honeymoon with Yoosung was romantic and cute.

Hand in hand you walked along the sea, the moon reflecting itself in the water.

,,The moon, so beautiful tonight,’’ Yoosung whispered.

,,You know,’’ you gasped and turned to your husband.

,,In Japan, you say that the moon is beautiful when you love someone.

,,I know,’’ Yoosung nodded and kissed you, placing his hand behind your neck, stroking your soft skin and pushing aside your hair.

The kiss was so passionate, the only light the both of you had was the moon behind you, illuminating this wonderful, romantic night.

And that night both of you loved each other for the very first time.

The next day you felt as if you were on a very high cloud.

Love was written all over your face but you didn’t just enjoy the romantic time but also had a lot of fun in the arcade, watched a lot of Anime, went to events and meat a lot of new people.

Japan was crazy, beautiful crazy.

Just like your young love.

Jaehee

,,Let’s go there for our Honeymoon,’’ you giggled after Seven acted as if he was your priest.

Marriage between two people with the same sex still wasn’t legal in Korea but it was Okay.

You and Jaehee were deeply in love, living together and happy.

And with that, you had everything you needed.

As long as you had each other nothing and none could tear you apart.

,,Ethiopia, are you sure?’’ Jaehee laughed as you nodded strongly.

,,That’s where coffee comes from!’’ you told her pretty excited, making her happy too.

,,So you know?’’

A few days later both of you were on your way for that amazing Honeymoon you waited for.

This experience would be special for the both of you.

The flight was a bit scary but Jaehee held your hand the whole time and even though you were in a to you unknown country, Jaehee managed to make everything work out.

The little hut was cute and enough for the both of you.

For the past days, both of you walked with natives through the place, looking at your surroundings.

And then the really amazing view started: the production of the coffee you guys loved so much.

You could finally watch them, every step was implanted in your head as Jaehee began to take pictures to frame them in your shop.

And while she observed you, laughing with them and helping them with their work, Jaehee realized that she found real love.

That finding you was fate.

That she was happy.

Saeyoung

,,A honeymoon is usually just between the bride and the broom,’’ you told him as you looked around you.

Well, you weren’t the only one who was uncomfortable and pissed.

Zen and Jaehee felt the same.

Yoosung even felt sorry for you.

The only ones who somehow didn’t care or notice the mood were Saeran and Jumin.

And of course Saeyoung himself, the one who was responsible for this mess.

,,I thought that a family vacancy could be fun!’’ he laughed and teased you, kissing you and stroking your skin.

You sighed.

Now you just had to think more about the good things.

And indeed, just a few hours later you were having fun with all of them, even though you wanted to be alone at first.

The second day for your honeymoon Saeyoung prepared a surprise at the beach, the table elaborated, the sunset behind you, and a romantic melody in the background.

,,This is perfect, Saeyoung,’’ you giggled.

,,I didn’t think that you were capable of this,’’ you confessed.

,,Well, they all supported me. I just thought that I had to invite them. They are like family, for you and for me. And I will make this unforgettable for you,’’ he confessed.

Saeran

You and Saeran wanted to get married earlier but since he couldn’t find any rest without first finding his brother, you had to stay patient.

And now both of you were off, Saeyoung behind you, waving and yelling through the whole airport, to come back with a baby and- it was pretty embarrassing what he was yelling.

,,I should have left him there where I found him,’’ Saeran hissed, however with a smile on his lips.

The two of you were on your way to America, something you wanted to see for a long time by now.

Jumin, who asked Saeran and Saeyoung to work for him after everything was settled, gave him a week off and three more moths to take a rest.

To you, it somehow gave you the feeling as if Jumin was trying to make up for Jihyun’s mistakes.

But you didn’t want to think about that now on your honeymoon.

The both of you slept a lot while flying with the airplane and were then off in New York to enjoy the time there.

But your goal was Florida, to the Walt Disney World Resort.

But first, you just had to visit NY, see Little Italy and all those surprises the big city had for you.

And afterward, you moved on, stopping in a few cities to look at how they lived.

It was amazing.

Your hotel seemed like a fairy tale, the stuff there was just beautiful and the Cosplayer was just so realistic.

,,This is with Mickey,’’ you showed Jaehee on a picture back in Korea.

,,And here,’’ you began to laugh, ,,this is after a ride on the merry go, Saeran was crying because he felt sick and so Cinderella approached him and he was so shocked!’’ you kept laughing.

,,She’s making fun of you,’’ Saeyoung said and laughed, while Saeran looked totally in love with you.

,,She’s allowed to, she’s my wife,’’

Jihyun

The Honeymoon of the both of you actually ended a week ago but Jihyun had some work to do and so you took a week off more.

It actually felt even better.

You currently sat on the balcony in Paris, the Eiffel Tower in your view, while you were holding a glass wine between your fingers.

Jihyun was on the phone with a sponsor who wanted to have an exhibition.

And it was totally okay for you that he was on the phone since he gave his best to not work the week before on your honeymoon.

,,I am back,’’ he told you and kissed you on your head.

,,So, should we take a walk?’’ he asked you and was ready to take your hand.

,,Mhm, with you I would like to even walk to the end of the world,’’ you laughed and got up.

The fresh air of Paris made you feel relaxed.

The yummy smell of fresh-baked Baguettes...

,,Would you like to live here?’’ Jihyun asked you.

,,Mh, I think it’s beautiful here. I love it, I love everything. But I think this beauty would fade away if I would live here,’’ you told him.

Vanderwood

The both of you decided on not doing something expensive but just enjoy the warmth of the both of you.

Your husband rented a house in the forest.

The next shop was three hours away and so you needed to make your food yourself.

,,Here we can drink the fresh water and we can fish ourselves!’’ you excited said.

You weren’t even on your phones so much.

You just had time for yourselves, cuddling a lot, kissing a lot, and sleeping in together.

Looking at the stars in the night together, listening to the nature.

Vanderwood and you experienced a fresh married life and you enjoyed it.

You also talked a lot about your wedding.

Since you didn’t have a family and Vanderwood was alone too, you only had the RFA around you and it was the best decision.

Throwing your bouquet, the food, the dance.

hey everyone it’s my frog collection + other cool things i had on the shelf at the time! i have 57 frogs (counting the packaged ones as one unit), which is 45 more than the last time i took a picture of my frog collection. enjoy!

under here i will tell you where i got each frog & why i grouped them like that! the groups can also be read in the captions. all pics try to go from left to right, from the back row to the front.

i. frogs that are big

Summer relaxin’ - my dad got him for me at a yard sale a few years ago.

HAPPY FROG - my dad also got him for me at a yard sale, but closer to 6 months ago. He’s hanging over my bed right now on my Wall Of Stuff.

Paper frog - my sister ripped him off the bulletin board at the Starbucks where she works to give him to me

White frog - picked him up at TJ Max when my mom took me dress shopping.

Dark green frog - i don’t know...i think from a yard sale? he’s hollow & i keep a semicircle paperweight in the hole in his stomach.

ii. 8 frogs that will break if you drop them & 3 that won’t

Yoga frog - my dad got him for me, maybe from Goodwill?

Ol Chumbo - got him at the flea market for $8. He is solid iron.

Just Eat What Bugs You!! - got him from a thrift store in a small town in Colorado. he’s got beans in him! if you shake him he rattles

Blue glass - he’s a candle holder! I got him from an antique store in Tennessee & then saw another one of him at the flea market years later.

Bronze goofball - crooked eyes. very endearing. also very heavy. got him in a shop that sold lots of bronze things outside the Louvre.

Gold - a gift from my boyfriend!!!

Sassy Frog - i think my dad gave her to me? or maybe i bought her at the antique store.

Little brown frog - more fragile than he looks, missing his front right leg so i got him discounted from the antique store near school.

Glass frog king! - got him in prague! he was overpriced, but worth it

Teeny glass frog - also got him in prague for $3!

Another glass frog - got in the same store that I got tiny frog in.

iii. frogs that are minerals

Chunky brown frog - got him at the antique store near school. i think my boyfriend bought him for me on one of our first dates!

Black frog - $35 but worth every cent. smooth, elegant, made in Japan. gotten from the antique store near school.

Flat brown frog - got him from the flea market.

Malachite frog - bought him online from Bekkathyst! Expensive, but I took advantage of a sale.

Rose quartz frog - got from a really cool mineral shop in Prague! I did a project on that shop, about redesigning the storefront.

Pink frog - got from a yard sale a long time ago, only recently rediscovered in my room & added to the collection.

Little frog on a leaf - got from a gift shop at the end of a long 14k altitude hike in Colorado.

Frogs 8-12 were all given to me by my boyfriend after he came back from NY. They’re a big family!!!

13. Tiny frog bead - got from the flea market!

iv. frogs that are squishy

Mint green frog loaf - picked this up from a recent con!! my boyfriend paid for half of it because he said this was something i needed to have, & he was right!

Webkinz frog - my dad got him for me at a yard sale because he liked the mischievous look in his eyes.

Little frog orb - part of a set of 3 round squishy things my boyfriend’s parents gave me for easter.

TY Beanie Baby Frog - a beanie baby original my sister got from a yard sale. he might be worth a lot of money since he’s an original. i’m looking into it.

Dark blue sand frog - I’ve had this since I was a child. he’s got stitches in his armpit because he used to have a big hole that let all the sand out.

Stripey sand frog - got her at a yard sale when i was maybe 9 so the dark blue frog could have a friend!

Green and orange beanie frog - picked this up from a “Night Market” in Vienna. having seen real night markets in Taiwan, I was kind of disappointed, but the frog was a good purchase.

Green beanie frog - got in belfast from a cool museum. has a pink twin owned by one of my friends. all frogs have sweet dreams

v. frogs that are toys

Skeleton frog - one of my roommates got him for me from a halloween store.

Glowing frog - he changes rainbow colors! my sister gave him to me for my 20th birthday last year.

Slime frog - my boyfriend got him for me as a Welcome Back present after i returned from Prague! he’s nasty. he’s full of yellow goo & he has a cap on the bottom of his body that you can undo to take out the goo. it takes hours to put the goo back in.

Keychain frog - also a flashlight that croaks when you turn him on! I saw him in Milan & had to have him.

Lime green frog - my dad gave me 3 frog bath toys for Christmas. I have one in my collection (this one), one at his house, & one at my mom’s house.

Blue frog whistle - I think one of my friends gave this to me but I’m not sure.

Wooden frog - bought him from a nice lady at the night market in Taiwan in 2017.

Wooden frog 2 - he rolls! picked him up for $4 in one of the Golden Lane shops in Prague Castle.

Frog rubber band - got him as a reward for being good at the dentist in like 2007.

vi. frogs i have not unwrapped

boblende fro - a frog bath bomb with a toy frog inside that i got from a weird store called Flying Tiger in prague. i don’t want to open him because he’ll be crumbly & i like the packaging a lot, & also i don’t want to use him yet.

Grow Frogs - another gift from my boyfriend’s parents for easter. I haven’t used them yet because I’m lazy & I don’t know if they’d crumble & I don’t know where I’d put them if they were unwrapped.

Frog King stickers - got these in northern ireland as well! i haven’t used any yet because they have layers & the things I’d put them on (my phone case, sketchbook, my laptop) move around a lot & the stickers would get destroyed really fast.

vii. frogs with jobs

Candle holder - one of my friends gave it to me for my birthday.

Green frog - got him from the local crafts store my roommate used to work at. He can hold onto the outside of cups or flowerpots or my finger!

Frog thimble - a different roommate gave him to me after he got back from his trip to Spain.

Frog clip - one of my friends gave it to me for no reason! really nice of her!!!

Mosaic frog - the roommate that went to Spain got this for me there too! he doesn’t have a job, he just doesn’t fit into any of the other categories.

Keroppi pin - got this for 50 cents in Taiwan & then lost it for a year.

Tiny rubber frog - given to me by one of my roommates for Christmas. he got it in Florida. he doesn’t have a job either.

Milan eraser - picked this up in a stationary store in prague called McPen.

viii. miscellaneous items on the frog display shelf

Fat cat with big poofy cheeks - i went to the flea market with my dad & saw this funny man.

Round unicorn & pink fish - the other 2 round things that came with the frog my boyfriend’s parents gave me for easter this year.

Crab ornament - given to me alongside the tiny rubber frog. he’s missing a leg and is EXTREMELY fragile - pieces of his shell fall off all the time.

Red wooden painted egg - got from an easter market in Prague.

Eggplant container - I keep souvenir pressed pennies in here.

Stone egg with stand - I got this for my dad from an antique store, but my dad said I could keep it.

Golden pig - gotten somewhere in Prague. I was gonna give it to one of my roommates, but my mom said “You should keep it for good luck, it’s the year of the pig!” & so I did.

Snake carving - my grandma used to give me little carvings made of the same material all the time before she died. I don’t know where I got this.

Little glass crab - a gift alongside the crab ornament & tiny rubber frog!

White rock - looks very pretty in the right light. got it from a mineral store in Cesky Krumlov.

Smooth rock - smokey quartz I think? got it from the same mineral store.

Carnelian scarab - got this from a really cool mineral store outside the Louvre. I could have spent all day in here - they sold really expensive frogs too. I had my eye on one made from turquoise, but it was 160 euros. Maybe next time.

Labrodorite heart - my boyfriend paid for half of it when he came to visit me in Prague! it’s very blue & very gorgeous.

Labrodorite chunk - my boyfriend got this for me at a hippie music festival!

Chunk of limestone - got this in northern ireland where there was a cool bridge near an old limestone quarry. I thought this rock looked cool, like mochi. You can’t tell from the picture quality.

Glass lizard - part of the gift with the crab ornament & the other things.

Turtle - got him from the flea market. not sure what he’s made of, but he’s handcrafted!

Shiny turtle - this was on the ground at the flea market. it probably had fallen off a display & cost money, but i put it in my pocket. please don’t arrest me

Stone turtle - got this guy from an aquarium that’s 2 hours away from home! we went as a group over spring break to the beach, but half of us immediately went home & half of us went to the aquarium. i got to touch a shark there.

Yuru Camp△ 2 – 03 – Top-Grade Eels and Feels

When Rin tells Nadeshiko she’ll be staying in Shizuoka for a couple extra nights due to the snow back home, Nadeshiko makes an alternate proposal: Rin could join her at her grandmother’s house on Lake Hamama. There’s are some lovely little moments of tension in between Nade’s offer, the alert sound on her phone, and the reveal of Rin’s reply: “Looking forward to it!”

The snow granted Rin two extra days to be all by herself if she wanted, but she choses to spend it with Nadeshiko, though first she books a surprisingly cheap campsite, spending New Year’s Day reading on the beach and then luxuriating in the bath.

At dusk, she quite accidentally stumbles upon a little local tradition where people gather to watch the sun setting directly into a torii gate near the Hamama-Ohashi Bridge. As Rin puts it, she got to see the sun rise and set on the year’s first day. Early in the morning, Sakura gets Nadeshiko up so she can make all the various train transfers to Sakume Station, where she’ll meet Rin.

After breaking camp, Rin heads to Kazanji in Nishi Ward to buy a gift of Strawberry buns, and soon learns that there’s a fanatical demand for them, as she ends up in yet another crush of people. Nadeshiko is at Sakume and greets her with a formal New Year’s Greeting, then shows her a gaggle of tame black-headed seagulls.

It’s a 20-minute walk to her grandma’s but Nadeshiko suggests they grab some lunch, further suggesting they have eel, a Hamama Lake specialty. Rin is down to just ¥1,920, so when she sees that the Top-Grade unagi Nadeshiko orders costs ¥4,000, she panics. Not to worry: Nadeshiko whips out a crisp ¥10,000 bill her dad gave her specifically to treat Rin to the good stuff, as thanks for how much she’s helped her out over the last half-year.

Rin doesn’t turn down the offer, but is perplexed when Nadeshiko, who decided to sit at the counter, turns away from watching the practiced chef kill and clean the live eels. Watching Rin’s reaction to tasting that eel, I’d say Nadeshiko’s tendency to make food look really good is rubbing off!

Upon arriving at Nadeshiko’s granny’s lakeside house, Rin also meets Nadeshiko’s childhood friend Toki Ayano, who comes off as a lot less energetic than Nadeshiko. In fact, she’s kind of a Lake Hayama Rin … or maybe Rin is a Yamanashi Ayano! There’s a natural bit of tension here as well, as it’s always a bit strange to meet your relatively new friend’s much older friend (or vice versa).

As expected, Rin ends up learning more about Nadeshiko from Ayano. Specifically, she was quite a bit chubbier in middle school, and her sister Sakura put her on a grueling exercise regime biking around Lake Hamana, and she slimmed down by her first year in high school. Now Rin understands why Nadeshiko had the strength and stamina to bike from Nanbucho to Lake Motosu the day they met.

Nadeshiko and Rin show her granny and Ayano more pics of camping, many of which are of food and eating, to which Nadeshiko declares eating outdoors to be the “best part” of camping. Rin doesn’t loudly agree, for a reason we learn later that night, but she does demonstrate her mini offertory box portable campfire grill by grilling mochi outside, and Ayano starts to get it. Also, Ayano has a moped too!

After an evening of watching TV while under the kotatsu, playing the Game of Life, Ayano has to head off to work at the konbini, agreeing to meet up with them at the observatory later. When the time to head there arrives, Nadeshiko wakes Rin up for once, and Rin, who hadn’t slept in a real bed for several nights, needs an extra few moments to shed the coziness.

Rin is initially worried about biking at night, but as Nadeshiko assures her, this area is like her back yard; she knows it like the back of her hand. Ayano is there to meet them at the observatory, and she and Nadeshiko points out all of the landmarks of Hamamatsu at night. Then she asks how Rin’s solo camping went, and she gets a very honest answer.

Going from Christmas Camping to soloing for New Year’s confirmed for her how different it feels when you’re camping alone. You see and hear and taste things you just won’t when you’re not alone, and you have nothing but time to contemplate things.

Rin describes soloing as “a way to appreciate loneliness”—which is a hell of a line! Nadeshiko notably doesn’t come right out and agree with Rin … and that’s okay! She and Rin can prefer different kinds of camping and enjoy occasionally camping together or with larger groups and still be good friends.

It may just be my imagination, but Yuru Camp seems to have upped its game a bit in the second season. Landscapes and backgrounds seem lusher and more detailed, as are the interactions and emotions it tackles, without beating you over the head with drama.

There’s a pervading realism to everything, from those little indefinable moments and feelings to a strong sense of geography and culture of the places the character inhabit. It’s also making me compile an ever longer (and harder to complete!) list of places to go and things to do next time I make it to Japan!
