Wtf is Lancer and why is it shit (serious question)
lancer is a tabletop roleplaying game made by the guy who drew kill six billion demons and another guy. i wouldn't call it 'shit', necessarily--it's good in a lot of the ways that matter. it's first and foremost a tactical mech combat game and on that level it's incredible. its ruleset is finely tuned, provides great amounts of GM support to make running what might otherwise be overwhelmingly crunchy combat easier, and has a truly stunning and cool level of character customization available. so as a game, i think it's great fun to play and run, genuinely innovative, and a huge step forward for battlemap tactical wargame type TTRPGs in general.
the lore though, kind of sucks. i think it has two clear and overlapping core problems. problem #1 is that it is a utopia as envisioned by a social democrat. it's a world which the text describes as 'post-capitalist' (but there are still evil megacorporations with private armies who own slaves) and 'post-scarcity' (but only in the developed 'core' systems, so. y'know. there's scarcity). at many points in the text they say that Union (the game's main faction) is utopian, throwing around that exact word a bunch of times as well as 'mutual aid' and 'direct action' and the like. but what they describe is just kind of an imperialist Space Sweden with several distinct forms of slavery that constantly expands and uses its Benevolent Imperial Power to intervene on the Backwards Violent Worlds on its outer border but its good because its just trying to bring them UBI.
to show what i mean, here's one of the game's writers¹ talking about how it would be morally wrong for Union to, say, appropriate the property of a private military corporation that also operates as a fascist nation-state:
Tumblr media
it's 'revolution' as imagined by the limpest of social democrats. and of course this would honestly be fine, whatever, most sci-fi settings are fundamentally achingly liberal, but the game goes so out of its way to signpost how Radical it is and how Hopeful and Liberationist you're meant to see the setting as
the other core problem is closely related--it feels like the lancer guys put every cool sci-fi idea they had into lancer even when it completely clashes with the core ideas behind it. like, AIs in this settings are callled 'NHPs' (non-human persons) and they're eldritch god-like beings from another dimension who have be kept 'shackled' (lancer's words, not mine!) to keep them as pliant and obedient AI assistants instead of hostile eldritch abominations. this is obviously horrifying and dystopian but it rules, it would be sick fucking worldbuilding for something with the tone of 40k or a one-off doctor who or star trek episode--but as a fundamental technology foundational to what we are supposed to believe is a post-revolutionary society founded on mutual aid and solidarity and blah blah blah it's glaringly dissonant.
bear in mind this is all just going off the rulebook. lancer fans have told me that the supplements and campaign modules fix some of this or contextualise it. but on the other hand communists have told me that they make it worse and i trust the communists more. i leave you with this incredible passage from the game's foreword:

Hope you enjoy!
Bot Buddy Perceptor's younger sibling recovering from the DJD Kidnapping
SFW, Platonic, Slight angst, Romance, Familial, Cybertronain reader
MTMTE
It took a while for Buddy to get back on their pedes.
Both figuratively and literally.
The DJD torture session and the near-death experience did leave some scaring on Buddy.
They were surprised at how many bots had left a vial of inner most energon or gift by their berthside and room.
It was almost unheard of a bot escaping the DJD and living to tell the tale. Especially from a bot like Buddy.
However, Buddy didn’t feel lucky.
In fact, they felt even more terrified than before.
Before they could walk around the ship with no problem doing their everyday chores around.
Now they barely went out of their habsuite and if they did, it was usually accompanied by someone or with an array of weapons in their subspace.
Before they could uphold a conversation with almost anyone on board.
Now they barely looked at anyone in the optic anymore.
And no one could blame them.
They had an increase in visits with Rung happening almost every day.
Rung is just thankful that these meetings haven’t been as bad as when he first started with Red Alert. Though now, they were arguably the same or worse than how Red was.
Buddy refused to talk about what happened with the DJD or the escape pod.
The only one who knew was Rung.
Not even Perceptor or Rodimus knew what really happened.
Buddy’s jumpy personality turned from 0 to 1000.
The flight, fight, or freeze responses were much more noticeable with them now.
From completely booking it, to taking out their blasters and shooting, to completely freezing and feeling the rapid pulsing of their spark.
Some visiting bots who clearly had too much to drink thought it was a good idea to scare Buddy a bit.
Buddy had to get sent to the med bay again.
The mechs walking back to their ship laughing.
Whirl turning the corner.
“What are you laughing about?”--Whirl
“That scaredy bot! Oh! You should have seen their face when we scared them! HAHAHAHAH! Absolutely golden!”—Mech 1
Whirl looks up from his claws.
“Ah… So, let me get this straight. You numb nuts decided to scar Jumpy over there? The same bot who’s in the med bay right now?”--Whirl
One of the bots starts laughing harder.
“HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Are you kidding me! That is just great! Bet they nearly had a spark attack!”—Mech 2
“Are you sorry?”--Chromedome
Tailgate, Cyclonus, Rewind and Chromedome come from behind Whirl.
“Psh! Why would we? We just got the drop on them and that’s it. They’re just faking it for attention.”—Mech 3
Skids and Brainstorm come from behind the bots.
Brainstorm looks extra furious.
“Attention!? That bot you decided to scare half to death went up against the DJD AND THEY ESCAPED! Are you even aware of the amount of damage you just did with your sick party trick?!”--Brainstorm
The bot pushes Brainstorm back.
Rung holds his arm while also looking angrily at the bots.
“You hurt them, and you aren’t even sorry about that? A bot who faced every Autobot and former Decepticon’s worst nightmare, and you decided to PLAY THE EMPERAN SUITE AND TASE THEM!”--Skids
The bots look more annoyed.
They don’t realize the bots growing numbers around them.
“And?”—Mech 1
One of the bots goes up to Skids and pushes him into Nightbeat and Nautica.
“We would do it again in a sparkbeat. Why don’t you just run back to your lab Pal.”—Mech 1
“Who uses pal anymore?”—Tailgate
“Not now Tailgate.”--Rewind
Brainstorm steps forward with malicious intent in his optics.
“Good to hear that then. You see the minibot over there.”--Brainstorm
Points at Rewind who was being held back by Chromedome.
“He’s got a camera bolted to his helm that has been livestreaming straight to the main brigde and the entire Lost Light. Now, my dear ‘pal’ you are going to get exactly what you deserve.”--Brainstorm
A furious Rodimus and neutral faced Perceptor armed with his rifle slowly walked to the group.
Brainstorm looks at the mechs behind him.
“Did you also forget that the bot you just put in the med bay was the Co-captain’s partner and Perceptor’s sibling? Hmm?”--Brainstorm
Brainstorm steps aside letting Rodimus closer while Perceptor took his distance with his rifle ready.
Rodimus flaming up his fists.
“Perceptor? Would you do the honors of starting?”--Rodimus
Two of the mech were shot down.
“Your turn Captain.”--Perceptor
Most of the Lost Light were ready to raise the pits on the bots.
Ultra Magnus took a blind eye when the mechs left the ship filled with dents, holes, and slightly melted frames. Even for him, that was a line crossed too far.
Buddy was surprised to see how many members of the crew had come to their aid and how many did want to help them deal with… this.
Buddy coming out of their habsuite a bit surprised to see Natica and Velocity at the door.
“Oh! Nautica? Velocity? Is there something wrong?”--Buddy
“Nope! We just wanted to take a walk with you.”—Velocity
“Oh, you don’t have to…”—Buddy
“Nonsene! We’re all heading the same place and we have so much to catch up on. C’mon!”—Nautica
Nautica extends her servo.
Buddy hesitates but takes it.
Nautica and Velocity flank their sides.
They have a nice chat until they reach Swerve’s.
Buddy’s servos start shaking a bit.
Nautica squeezes their servo while Velocity places one on their shoulder.
They gently guide Buddy through the bar until they reach a quieter place in the bar.
Tailgate, Rewind and Swerve wave over to Buddy from the booth.
“Hey Buddy! We saved you a seat!”--Tailgate
Buddy looks at Nautica and Velocity who nod encouragingly.
Buddy goes to sit down with the mini’s as Nautica and Velocity go on to another part of the bar.
Swerve slides them a drink.
“Your favorite. Don’t worry this one on the house.”--Swerve
“What’s the celebration?”--Buddy
“It’s been an entire week since you’ve finally gotten out of your habsuite. I think that’s something to celebrate.”--Swerve
Buddy looks down a bit.
Tailgate grabs their servo.
“It’s a great day Buddy.”--Tailgate
“And we’re all glad you’re here with us.”--Rewind
Buddy gives a small smile.
“Have I ever told you about how I met some local racers before the war?”--Swerve
Buddy knowing this story fully just shakes their helm.
“No, I don’t think so, do you mind…”--Buddy
“Oh! Well, it was a pretty drafty day if I do say so myself…”--Swerve
Rewind and Tailgate sandwich Buddy in a side hug while Swerve goes on with his story.
Little by little the Old Buddy slowly came back.
It was a bit, but it was progress.
Perceptor and Rodimus were two of the biggest helps Buddy had.
Both in their minds felt guilty for not knowing Buddy was taken and how they could have helped them somehow.
After Buddy was released from the med bay, Perceptor took some time off to be with them. Even when he went back to work, he started taking his breaks more seriously and started spending time with Buddy or trying to bring them to friendly outings.
“Buddy.”--Perceptor
“Percy?”--Buddy
“Brainstorm invited us to Swerve’s for a drink. Care to go?”--Perceptor
Perceptor offers his servo to Buddy.
Buddy thinks about it then grabs his servo.
“Sure.”--Buddy
They both walk down the hallway.
Every so often Perceptor would squeeze their servo gently as if to say: ‘I’m here.’
Buddy would give a weaker squeeze in response.
While he wasn’t exactly good at telling his feelings or expressing them in general, he made sure to let Buddy know that he was there for them.
Whatever they needed from him, he was going to do everything he could to do it.
There was an increase in servo holding between the two, especially in more crowded places.
Perceptor found out quickly that his talking and slight touches grounded Buddy whenever they looked particularly anxious.
He is developing a tracker for Buddy and an array of rescue devices for them.
If Buddy ever broke down with him around, he would first ask if it was okay to touch them. He doesn’t want to accidentally trigger them. If they don’t want to be touched, then he is going to sit right next to them while they let it all out. Then he’ll quietly tell them some stories of what happened in the lab that week. It usually gets Buddy’s mind off things.
If they do want touch, Perceptor is going to hug Buddy in a secure hold. He read that sometimes pressure was good in hugs. He might cry too if he feels like it. He won’t let go until Buddy tells him to.
He’ll end up letting go of the hug but will keep his servo in theirs.
Buddy sobbing on his shoulder.
Perceptor calmly soothing their back.
“Do you want to visit Rung now?”--Perceptor
Buddy shakes their helm.
“Do you want me to let go?”--Perceptor
Buddy shakes their helm quicker and hugs tighter.
“Okay… do you want to know what happened in the lab with Brainstorm today?”--Perceptor
Buddy pauses before nodding a bit.
“Well, Brainstorm had the ‘brilliant’ idea of hanging upside down again, but he forgot to latch on to his chassis and ended up falling straight on his face.”--Perceptor
Buddy weakly chuckles as they loosen their grip but continue hugging their brother.
Rodimus stayed by Buddy’s side any chance he got.
Magnus and Megatron allowed him some leave time to be with Buddy.
He found out that his touch and voice were also ways to ground Buddy from their thoughts.
He is pulling out jokes and sweet words of affection left and right.
He is going to make sure his partner knows that they are loved. Which led to many laughable and cute moments.
Rodimus slipped his servo into Buddy’s.
“And how is the prettiest bot on board doing today?”--Rodimus
Buddy is still trying to wake up from this morning.
“I don’t really know Captain…”--Buddy
“Aww Buddy don’t be—”--Rodimus
“I wouldn’t know how you’d be feeling unless I was sleeping beside you…”--Buddy
Rodimus just stops in place.
Rodimus ex has stopped working please reset your bot.
Buddy blinks sleepily.
“Roddy? Is something wrong?”--Buddy
“no—I mean—Nope! Nothing, nothing at all!”--Rodimus
“…If you say so…”--Buddy
“Did I mention you’re looking particularly radioactive this morning?”--Rodimus
“… I look what?”--Buddy
Rodimus’s mind is going ‘ABORT MISSION! ABORT MISSION!’.
“Ummm…”--Rodimus
Rodimus hugs Buddy.
Buddy is a bit surprised by the sudden hug but welcomes it anyway.
“Thanks Roddy.”--Buddy
Rodimus’s mind ‘MISSION SUCCESSFUL… kind of…’
It takes him a bit to realize that something’s wrong with Buddy being in crowded places at first. But when he does, he puts a stop to it.
Rodimus lets Buddy pick the date night activities and he is down for anything.
Cuddle? He is already on the berth.
Movie marathon? He has some earth films, and he can ask swerve for some movie suggestions.
He slowly gets Buddy to come back to their normal self.
If Buddy does break down around him, he is going to immediately go for a hug.
If Buddy doesn’t want to touch, he is going to sit by them and keep quiet for a bit. After most of the crying is done, he is going to try and tell a funny story to get them to smile a bit. After that he is going to whisper words of affirmation and affection to them while telling them everything is okay.
If Buddy does want to touch, he is going for it. Hugging them tightly and bring them in as close as he can. Most likely to act as the big spoon and tell them everything is going to be okay even when things don’t feel like it.
He isn’t going to let go anytime soon.
Buddy burying their helm into Rodimus’s neck cables.
Rodimus fighting some tears himself.
“Is this, okay?”--Rodimus
He hugs tighter.
Buddy nods.
Rodimus softly traces Buddy’s frame.
“Everythings okay… I’m here… Your brother’s here… the crews here… You’re here Buddy. I know it doesn’t look too bright right now, but I promise, you’re going to get out of this and your going to kick whatever nightmares you have in the afterburner.”--Rodimus
Buddy chuckles a bit at this.
“Roddy?”--Buddy
“Hmmm?”--Rodimus
“Thank you… love you.”--Buddy
Rodimus’s frame heats up a bit.
“Y-yeah… Love you too.”--Rodimus
Buddy is safe now.
They have a whole crew and family there to catch them if they ever fall again.

Okay okay just a real quick: MegOp Bodyguard Affair within an Arranged Marriage AU???
Imagine Orion Pax is very very very distantly related to one of the lineages of the Primes, and though he goes about his life practically a mid-caste, the fact remains that he is technically considered high-caste.
He maintains a job as an Archivist, living out a modest, unassuming life, and generally doesn't care for the pomp and circumstance of high-caste affairs. The flashiness just isn't in his nature, and there is something he can't quite place his digit on when he attended those soirees-- something unsettling and almost invisible.
The key word here being almost. He is not ignorant to the way higher-castes handle their lower-caste staff-- in his youth he'd overheard his fair share of unjust punishments over minuscule offenses or listened to someone brag about withholding payment as a means to pinch a few credits. Though Orion doesn't exist in that sphere any more, he can't shake the sense that things have just gotten worse. His friend Jazz is an upper mid-caste who has a knack for keeping an audial to the ground thanks to his security work, and has told him many times there is a growing unrest all over Cybertron-- that it's only a matter of time before it bursts into something ugly.
Orion already sees ugliness; as the slum areas continue to expand, as mechs and their homes fall into disrepair, the Senate and Council of Primes don't appear to care at all about the wellbeing of Cybertronian citizens. He sees what Jazz is referring to-- there is a looming darkness, and their people are disconnected. But what can Orion, a mere data clerk, possibly do about it?
He does what he's best at: cataloging whatever data he can find to educate himself of the stories he cannot see or fathom.
Through his research he discovered some of the gruesome ways mechs in castes below him have been treated, but even then he knew his findings were only scratching the surface. He wanted to learn more-- to speak with others who had direct experiences. He first began with Ratchet, a dear friend who was also high-caste, who used his vast medical knowledge to attend to anyone who came to him. In fact, Ratchet purposefully divides his time between high-caste hospitals and a clinic he created in Rodion in order to give lower-castes access to his skill. The lack of opportunities for maintenance and even basic medical care horrified Orion, and it only urged him to look deeper.
That was how he had eventually discovered the forums-- large, categorized, virtual assemblies of mechs from all walks of life, interacting anonymously under pseudonyms. He absorbed as much as he could-- even the uglier sides he couldn't stomach on the first read. It felt important that he saw these things, as it confirmed his suspicions that the high-castes who operated the Senate were willfully allowing people to suffer for their own benefit and comfort.
In time, he learned of the works of Megatronus-- a gladiator who fought in the Pits of Kaon, but who was also an impressive orator and author. He would publish transcribed speeches and essays under a pseudonym, though Orion quickly learned the mech's true identity from others who followed his work. His words spoke plainly of the inequalities and injustices present in society, shedding light on the lives of unnamed Disposables, and wove a dream of a world without a caste system, without Functionism. In short, it was revolutionary, and captured Orion so intensely that he became uncharacteristically emboldened one cycle and sent Megatronus a direct message.
Of course, while Orion had already been chatting with a few mechs here and there to learn of their accounts, something about reaching out to Megatronus felt... different. A much bigger step. Perhaps it was because he was something of a celebrity, being a public figure in the blood sport he championed as well as being a talented writer. Orion was nervous and excited all at once-- though he reminded himself he really ought not to be, seeing as Megatronus would be understandably far too busy to even read his message... surely he gets hundreds of those a cycle...
But then something miraculous happened-- Megatronus actually responded!!!
And thus began their fervent exchange of ideas. Megatronus was as captivating as Orion had suspected-- an enlightening philosopher wrapped within the charms of his quick wit and forward nature. Eventually-- though they had never even seen each other-- a deep mutual friendship bloomed, and Orion longed to visit Megatronus in Kaon... to meet and hear him speak in person...
(He longed for other things as well, but dare not voice them aloud for he knew how outlandish it was to want them. Orion knew he could not monopolize Megatronus' time in the selfish way he would like-- not when he was so important to the revolutionary movement he had started...)
However, everything changed when Orion's cousin Sentinel was named a Prime.
There hadn't been a new Prime in ages. Zeta and Vector had been serving for many vorns, while Alpha Trion came well before them and was by far the oldest; Sentinel would likely be replacing him on their Council of Primes. This, Orion knew, would be devastating news to Megatronus-- he knew the gladiator had hoped to one day ascend to the title of Prime as demonstration of overcoming the oppression of the caste system. Now, it seemed they would have to wait even longer for the next rare chance of a new Prime being named.
Secondary to all that, Orion was facing his own personal troubles. He, who was content to live an unassuming life, had been thrust into the spotlight for having an even closer lineage to the Primes. Now he had strangers sending him gifts, even showing up at his place of work, vying for his good graces so he might put in a word to Sentinel on their behalf. Or worse, they attempted to seduce him in a blatant attempt to ascend the social ladder through a conjux bond. It all made Orion deeply uncomfortable, and he thanked Alpha Trion profusely for letting him use a private workstation at the Archives, otherwise he would have lost his mind (or his temper.)
For folks desperate to recieve acknowledgment from the new Prime to boost their social standing, they were shockingly naive about Orion's relationship to Sentinel. They had been estranged for over half his function by now, in part because they existed in different circles, but also because Orion could hardly stand the mech. Sentinel had been pompous and cocky as a sparkling, and unfortunately it was a not a phase he grew out of. He was, quite frankly, a classic example of the type of leader people were growing to despise-- an arrogant and over-polished politician who made decisions to only benefit himself and crush the rest beneath his pedes.
That train of thought led him back to Megatronus; Orion hadn't heard from him in a while. At first he had been terrified that his dear friend had finally been overtaken in the Pit, killed by his fellow mech or by some massive beast stolen from a foreign planet. But after scanning the Kaon news for joors, he found no recounting of such an event-- surely the champion's defeat would have made a headline? Orion concluded he must be held up by something, and so after not receiving a response for quite some time, he ventured to ask another gladiator who worked closely with Megatronus-- Soundwave. He knew the silent mech didn't like to be bothered, but he had hoped to convey his concerns well enough that he could be forgiven just this once.
Orion: Hello, Soundwave. I am sorry to disturb you with the same question I'm sure countless others have been wondering, but do you know where Megatronus is?
Soundwave: ... Affirmative. Many have wondered. However, Orion Pax first to ask.
Orion: Oh! I would have assumed your inbox would be flooded by inquiries to his whereabouts...
Soundwave: Others afraid to ask.
Orion: ... Afraid to ask you or afraid to ask what has become of him? Did something bad happen?? Is he alright???
Soundwave: ... Inconclusive. Not good, not bad. Confirmed: Megatronus is unharmed.
Orion: That is such a relief to hear!! In that case, may I inquire further as to what situation prevents him from communicating? That is to say, I noticed he hasn't been posting to the forums as of late...
Soundwave: ... Megatronus: loaned to high-caste buyer. Unable to establish contact until further notice. Contract duration: one stellar cycle. Megatronus: will post as soon as able.
Orion: Oh... is that a common situation you find yourselves in?
Soundwave: Uncommon, but not rare.
Orion: I see... thank you for taking the time to speak with me, Soundwave. It was most illuminating. In the meantime, I will endeavor to be patient a while longer for Megatronus' return to the forums. Farewell for now, and please stay safe.
Soundwave abruptly exited their chat without a departing remark, not that Orion expected him to do anything else.
It had been hard as of late to see his friends in Iacon with all the new attention he had been attracting. Now, without even his dear online companion to talk to, Orion felt a bit isolated... lonely, even. But he knew the buzz around Sentinel's Primacy ceremony would die down eventually, so all he had to do was persevere.
Still, as much as he enjoyed the company of mechs like Ratchet and Jazz over a com channel, there was something about those text-based messages between himself and Megatronus that he craved. The gladiator provided intellectual stimulation that he found in no one else, and it was intoxicating...
Unfortunately the universe decided it would not let Orion Pax stew in isolation for long. No, it had other plans... which involved Sentinel suddenly deciding to send for him, so that they might meet at his grand estate and "become reacquainted".
Upon arriving, Orion was not impressed by the splendor as he now saw it as a terrible waste. He politely listened to all the history the estate manager waxed on about as they pointed to various highlights during their tour, even asking thoughtful questions along the way (which they seemed to appreciate.) Still, all he could think of is what these resources might've been able to do for literally anyone else on the planet aside from boosting his cousin's vanity.
Finally he is led to meet Sentinel in one of the drawing rooms. He greets Orion uncharacteristically warmly at first, throwing Orion off for a moment. But in a klik, Sentinel's facade slips away and he is back to his petty, backhanded remarks-- now there's the Sentinel Orion remembered.
As it turns out, Sentinel has pawned him off to be bonded to a Senator who was tantamount in securing the Prime seat for him. Orion is outraged!! How dare he make such a promise without consulting him!?!
"I refuse." Orion said, his voice cold, "The Senator may certainly try to court me, and I will honestly take their attempt into consideration-- as a courtesy to your arrangement-- but I will make no promise to be bonded by the end of it." Orion hoped the concession to at least let the mech have a fair go at courting would be enough.
But Sentinel just laughed-- laughed.
"Oh! You think you have a choice! Ha ha ha!" He wiped away some stray coolant from his optic before resetting his vocalizer, "As you may recall, tomorrow I will be named Prime. And as the highest living member of our lineage, I will oversee all of our clan's affairs. I suggest you learn your place this cycle, Orion... I may not be so forgiving henceforth."
"I don't care what you have to say on the matter, today or otherwise." Orion said, turning to leave, "I refuse to be a pawn in this game. Pick another estranged family member to entertain you, I'm going home."
"Oh, poor Orion. Didn't I mention? You are home."
"I... what?"
"I took the liberty of gathering all your things and relocated them here," Sentinel said with a dismissive wave, as though upending his entire life was as easy as ordering fuel, "and I've asked Alpha Trion place you on sabbatical from the Archives, starting immediately."
"Wh-- why?! When?!?"
"Shortly after my chauffeur picked you up." Sentinel regarded him smugly from over a shoulder pauldron, "I couldn't allow your betrothed to be seen visiting that hovel you called a home, so I graciously offered to house you until the conjux ritus was complete."
'This can't be happening.' Orion was too stunned to speak, panic creeping up as the reality of his situation sunk in. 'My job, my friends, my home... this is archaic!'
"The courting and subsequent ritus is expected to take approximately a stellar cycle," Sentinel continued, glancing at his digits and looking rather bored, "hence your sabbatical. And after that you will move into your bonded's estate. From there, I don't care what you do."
A knock on the door interrupted Sentinel's servo grooming and Orion's mental spiral. The estate manager had returned with a large silver mech following close behind, saying something about fuel being ready for them in another parlour.
"Ah! Excellent timing." Sentinel clapped his servos and turned to Orion. "Care to join me for a snack?"
Orion said nothing, still trying to calm his racing processor.
"No?" Sentinel began to approach him. "We could toast to a new chapter in our functions!"
Finally no longer on the verge of a glitch, Orion turned his helm away, deliberately not looking at Sentinel.
"No, thank you," he said sullenly, "My tanks are satisfactory."
Suddenly Sentinel cupped his chin with one servo and yanked so that their optics met.
"Are you sure? I am a very busy mech, and I might otherwise forget to feed you later." He leaned in even closer, "It would be unwise to make a habit of spurning my generosity, as I alone have the power to make your stay here more... comfortable."
"I will survive." Said Orion-- gaze firm and unwavering, a cold fire in his optics.
'I will survive this... I will survive you.'
Sentinel released him with a sneer and marched over to the door. "Come!" he barked at the silver mech, causing the estate manager to jolt. However the larger mech hardly stirred, save to plod towards the spot Sentinel had gestured to. Orion noticed his helm was bowed, red optics casts towards the floor... which meant he was almost certainly a low-caste and had to show deference to the higher-castes around him. The sight made Orion's spark twist.
Despite the submissive posture, the silver mech was large and imposing; he even had to duck and turn slightly to fit his helm and broad, spiked shoulders through the doorframe. When he was able to stand at his full height, Orion could see he wore a carefully blank expression. 'Reticence is a common self-preservation tactic for mechs in his position... I can plainly see why.'
"Meet your new bodyguard, Orion Pax!" Sentinel clapped the silver mech on the shoulder with vicious glee as red optics widened minutely before returning to their previous setting. "He'll be here to keep an optic on you at all times while you're being courted."
'Not so much for my safety as he is to deter me from running away, no doubt.' Orion speculated. Nothing he holds against the big mech personally, he knows it's just his job. Still, his presence will complicate any of Orion's future plans...
Sentinel started to walk away then, but seemed to think of something else. "Ah-- despite his frame size, he should blend into your periphery. You'll hardly notice he's there. But do let me or my estate manager know if he gets to be too chatty."
And with that, Sentinel and the estate manager finally left him alone with his new keeper. Orion let out a long, shaky sigh. He knew Sentinel could have a cruel and ruthless streak, but this was beyond the pale. 'Primus below, I shudder to imagine how will he act once he actually is a Prime...'
Shaking those disturbing thoughts for now he turned towards the other mech in the room, only to be met with red optics flicking up to look right at him. The silver mech's helm was still downcast, so it was difficult to see his expression, but Orion surmised he must be feeling wary of his new charge.
'Well, that won't do.' Orion gathered himself and strode over to make introductions.
"Hello. My designation is Orion Pax." As he spoke the silver mech's helm began to slowly rise, red optics still glued him. "Despite what Sentinel implied, I'd much prefer you speak as often as you'd like... at least in my company. It seems we will be spending a lot of time together, and it would be a shame to spend its entirety in silence."
He held out his servo as an offered greeting. Eventually, after a brief hesitation, the looming silver mech reached out with his own (clawed?!) servo and shook it, being even more gentle than Orion thought possible.
"... Orion Pax." The mech ventured, looking him up and down. "Would you happen to be from Iacon?"
'Oh my,' thought Orion, feeling his faceplates heat up a bit, 'I could certainly get used to hearing his voice...'
"Ah, yes! I am!" Orion said a bit too bright, which only increased his blush, "I work as an Archivist, doing anything clerical, really. My focus is generally on the origins and development of Cybertronian cultures and societies. Recently I've been reading more about philosophy, and how it's shaped-- Oh!" Orion's train of thought came to screeching halt. He was being rude!
"Please forgive me, but I have not even asked you for your designation! And Sentinel made no mention of it before... who might you be, my keeper? Are you part of the estate's sentry?"
The silver mech gave a low chuckle, visibly more relaxed than he had been earlier. The sound sent a tingle down Orion's struts.
"Only temporarily. I am a gladiator-- plucked fresh from the Pits to be your humble guardsmech." The mech grinned and did a mock bow. Orion was utterly charmed... but wait!
"... Do you by chance know the Champion of Kaon?" 'Could it be...?'
Another rumbling chuckle, and Orion found himself hanging on every word.
"I am the Champion, little Archivist. My designation is Megatronus."

Mer formers dratchet finding a sparked Rodimus who was abducted from his home and can’t go back because it was destroyed?
Now they have a sparked distrusting & traumatized mer they are slowly falling in love with
oh yes
The way this idea just gripped ahold of me and I love this idea but got a little caught up in plot and it got pretty long.
I've got another related ask, too. It's probably a bit less horny than intended, but I'll do more in a bit. Happy mermay!
Rodimus grew up in the Nyon shoal and was very social and comfortable and happy. Their shoal was settled around an uninhabited island from which they took their name which spent most of the time submerged and has complex reef system around it. It was considered one of the most beautiful places on Cybertron with pink sands and fiery colors mers matching the reefs surrounding it. It was Preserved and people weren't supposed to travel there but that didn't stop an occasional wealthy mech from hiring someone to go there as they considered fees to be "entrance payments" more than punishment. While wary most of the people who came regular, marine biologists who studied them, were friendly and the shoal was a much more social and less aggressive one than most.
At least partially due to the fact the island used to be inhabited and they had a shared community until a disease that the mers were immune to wiped out the island population. They still passed down stories and remembered them. The "strange" rituals that the biologists studied are the ones passed down to honor their former friends. Rituals that look religious in nature because it was as their former neighbors worshipped Primus.
All this adds up to Rodimus seeing Tyrest, who was slightly obsessed with it since he recognized a long defunct religious gesture in one of the videos a Senator showed him of "visiting" the island and believe it to be a sign, and swimming right up to him. Rodimus sees him do the gesture and returns it enthusiastically, swimming much closer than he would normally and even perching up on the boat's edge which led to him getting snatched.
Rodimus suffers during his time with Tyrest, who treats him like a pretty toy, and punishes him when he "acts up". It only gets worse the more time passes and Tyrest gets handsy. Rodimus becomes incredibly hostile to all mechs and Rodimus starts to get drugged daily to keep him placid.
Then he has his first heat and Tyrest is eager to take advantage of it to arrange for artificial insemination. It required getting him out of the tank though. The drug burns out quicker than Tyrest realized and Rodimus begins to become more lucid and once Tyrest dismisses his guards and staff for the day, Rodimus rips out his throat. Tyrest kept Rodimus in his private island, letting him look out at the sea but never touching it.
Rodimus drags himself through the house and across the sand into the water. He's hurt and bleeding and exhausted but he's free even if he's somewhere new.
Rodimus is not a very sturdy breed of mer or one meant for long distance or deep ocean travel on top of still smelling like heat. He encounters a lot of dangers from predators and other mers, reacting with almost feral aggression not allowing anyone, even friendlies close. He follows old stories and constellations to eventually find Nyon, or where it was. There was an accident and a ship carrying oil wrecked and the leak destroyed Nyon. There are mechs working to try and clean it, but the reef and shoal are dead and the pink sands stained.
Rodimus now heavily pregnant and strained with grief wonders blindly, avoiding the large stretches of territory or inhabited areas he goes through, and finds an island that looks mostly untouched, no mechs or mer shoals obvious and just falls asleep exhausted in one of the underwater caves.
The reason it is untouched is it is neutral territory where the "sea witch" Ratchet and his mate Drift live. Who find Rodimus, so exhausted he doesn't even wake up when they touch him, clearly having starved himself, undersized and with poorly healed injuries. They take him back to their cave and Ratchet quickly cleans his long neglected wounds and treats them, while Drift helps him feed Rodimus via mouth-to-mouth until he has enough strength to respond and swallow when they put it in there. He sleeps for days with their tending, tense and curled up even in his sleep until on the fifth day he wakes up.
Rodimus is incredibly wary of the two other mers when he wakes up. He is hissing and bristling and ready to fight, though instinct has him pushing himself back into the back of the cave and curling around his swollen belly. He is full and healthier than he has been in ages, and everything is screaming to nest.
Drift and Ratchet are soft. They've never managed to carry more than duds despite their long courting. They suspect they are wither infertile or incompatible. They have more than enough to support a carrier, and both have gotten a little attached while carrying for him.
They give Rodimus space, leaving him food and not forcing themselves close. Slowly, warily, he creeps out. They both freeze when he does, letting him make the first moves. When he creeps out further, Drift trills at him hopefully, which startles him and sends him rushing back into hiding.
It's slow progress with Rodimus watching them warily from where they've tucked him into an inner cave, and their instincts are acreaming to take care of him more and barely sated by glimpses and food and occasional glimpses of him sleeping and smelling content. Both are patient though.
One day, when it's just Ratchet, Drift, having gone out to hunt and patrol to settle some of his "expecting babies" instincts, Rodimus finally creeps out. Ratchet's own instincts to prepare have led to him overprepping in medicine and gathering a bit. He's been trying to prepare for any eventuality. He doesn't freeze or react when he feels Rodimus moving behind him and forces himself to remain calm letting him approach and watch Ratchet curiously.
Rodimus, meanwhile, has gotten curious about his not-captors. He has become absolutely certain they don't want what most have wanted from him and don't appear to be a threat. Mostly, they seem to want to feed him. He's been listening to them interact and talk but still doesn't understand why. He doesn't feel safe, but he also doesn't feel actively in danger.
So he's decided to approach the safer looking one alone. Drift may be smaller, closer to Rodimus’s size, but he's all predator with prominent fangs and claws and spines. Ratchet, meanwhile, is bigger than him but has duller claws, practically just nails and grinding teeth as well as non-prominent fangs and eats kelp as much as any fish. Rodimus is pretty sure his main defense is his thick hide, size, sharp tongue, and Drift.
They talk, and while it is tense, it soothes things. Ratchet explains how they found him, what he is doing, and briefly a bit about himself and Drift. He also offers Rodimus safety in their home as long as he wants to stay. When asked why Ratchet nods to his swollen belly and says he can't just let a school less first timer go at it alone when he can help and that Rodimus will need suport and be unable to hunt for himself soon enough. Rodimus has bee filling more and more the instinct to den down and prepare but is still suspicious.
Rodimus demands what exactly Ratchet wants in return, and he says for Rodimus to let him treat his wounds and make sure he and any pups or healthy before Rodimus leaves. If he wants to leave, that is. He also confirms Drift feels the same way. Rodimus still doesn't trust it, but Ratchet hasn't lied so far and had plenty of time to take advantage.
Drift comes barrelling in, freezes, and gets excited, sending Rodimus back into hiding. Dratchet talks about taking things slow. Or at least that's what they think until the next day. Rodimus is nervous at first but gets comfortable very quickly, and by the end of the day, he is acting like he owns the place. Which is at least 65% bravado, but he is forcing himself to be comfortable in order to convey confidence. Drift, of course, is thrilled and very friendly and readily spoiling him, eager to show off their home and area, and Ratchet is very tolerant and fussing at him to eat or drink.
Rodimus is surprised how quickly it turns to genuine comfort with them. He swims with Drift acting as sentinel, but always gentle and cooing as he shows them small wonders and races and dances around him in warm shallows that look perfect for pup. He hangs around Ratchet on his tired days lounging and pestering him when Ratchet makes medicine, and Ratchet huffs but explains or tells stories about his travels, which are interesting and pretty wide. Other times, they go to gather medicinal things. It's further than Drift usually takes him but Rodimus stubbornly demands to come and inevitably ends up dozing on Ratchet's back being gently carried home between them
He realizes as his room (den) becomes filled with pretty rocks and decrotive plants and soft sponges for a bedding and fine sand perfect for burying eggs and carefully selected rocks that both have given him that they've been acting both as sire and community and he cries and realizes he may be rwally and truly safe.
He starts being more open with them and laughing and smiling, and things get warmer and affevtionate as all three start falling for each other. Now that Rodimus is safe and his body isn't stressed he enters a new stage of his carrying and finds himself curling up against Ratchet in the cave not wanting to leave and purring or dragging Drift to his berth to cuddly and clunsy try and wrap his tail around him. Both of them pick up on it and smell it, but after what Rodimus said, they are reluctant to force the issue. Finally, after he half tucks himself under Ratchet and just vibrates while chirping, they do, and Rodimus realizes he's been making moves and decides rather than be embarrassed to go fully in.
They start assisting him, and when they do, they can't stop. It's a near constant pausing what they are doing to push him down and gently fuck into him while he purrs and clings to them, long pretty tail wrapping around them and clinging as much as possible. Both becime reluctant to leave him and he is firnly in the den napping most days and rarely venturing far. They prepare in earnest not to leave for awhile and the last two weeks of his carrying is just slow fucking, cuddling and constantly rearranging things to be perfect.
By the time Rodimus lays the eggs, they are all thoroughly mated and pleasantly surprised to find they hatch a mix of Rodimus's broght colors and white and red patterns.

"You have them on?"
"I do, I swear I have them, I just need to get this off-"
"Look me in the optics when you say that, you won't touch anything if your little freaky organic servos-!"
"I do, I do! Just, please, stop moving like that!", pleas are laced with desperation and righteous fury, one he wants to shred from your little mouth, but there is this tremor on his open armor that goes from helm to pedes when your little fingers wrapped in synthetic gloves roam on his bare protoform to take out shattered bullets, the sensation is ripping him apart between launching you out of the window and away from him or just stay still as Sideswipe looks at you both while grinning like a complete fragger or, worse, stay still and shut up before Ratchet finally snaps that wrench on his servo against his helm.
Mech, please no is what his new conscience pleads too and so he has to follow, be stiff and feel how your fingers move, shaking, finally being fast and sharp when Ratchet says your name like a stern mentor and pulling sharp fragments with the help of a little steel gadget.
He can't think of it, being totally honest it would be more like he isn't the one thinking of it but his brother, who looks with barely contained interest how you work, it's embarrassing how Sideswipe doesn't even try to cover the interest he has for you over Sunstreaker's open arm and moving like a new medic and is also dragging him in feeling the same, it's worse than his brother, since he can feel your absurd weight over him like a constant pang on the back of his processor, it's degrading, since Ratchet seem to know what is going on and can only look more tired than he already is and Sunstreaker's situation is getting worse because the last he needs is to have Ratchet asking what is going on!
But for Sideswipe things were getting back to normal, somehow.
"Hey there, Sunny! Here comes our team's best player!", Sideswipe has taken to hold you as if you were some kind of small animal or a stuffed one before letting you rest next to Sunstreaker, who frowned at you with all the fury on his massive body before directing it to his brother.
"Sides, I swear-"
"No, no, doc's order", he put you nearer to the yellow bot with a grin so wide, you wanted to throw your shoe to him, Ratchet isn't anywhere in sight but his mere name is the only thing keeping the brothers from destroying each other, "you shouldn't move, so our favorite human is here to help you rise to health again".
"Which piece of scrap metal said that?", When he gets better he will rip their arms from their frames.
"I don't know, everyone?", and obviously Sideswipe gets to ridicule him even more while pushing you nearer to his side.
You wanted to hide and escape, Sunstreaker wanted to punch his brother in the face.
But repetition makes everything fall to some routine, you're ready with your backpack full of books, homework and your reliable laptop when Sideswipe comes to pick you up and back to Sunstreaker resting body, the fear has lessened but is still very much alive, for now your best choice to avoid touching him directly is using blankets, but Sunstreaker is a high-end bot and your wallet is still bleeding from purchasing an obnoxious yellow cashmere blanket and another one of vicuna, which is made from an animal in verge of extinction just to know how expensive that one was too, that has taken most of your savings only to please him, he didn't even say thanks, just looked at it once before giving his approval with a nod, he didn't even talk or looked at you, always treating you like a nuisance he tolerated to please Sideswipe.
Before you should've looked at Sideswipe for help, but he beamed when you dragged the expensive and eye hurting piece of fabric on a big and equally eye-catching expensive bag and presented you with it to his brother and even into a zipper bag.
They were both in this, or more like Sideswipe was dragging Sunstreaker in the whole mess, like when you first meet them, and that was hell; at least the vicuna one was nice, just what you need to roll into in order to escape from any stress around.
Just like having someone, not bot, calling out your name in the Ark.
Most of the time you're next to Sideswipe, Sunstreaker too in recent days, and while it is understandable to say you should be more familiar with the other humans there has never been a real occasion to get to know them better since they apparently know one another way before your arrival.
So imagine the surprise when Hunter starts to make little conversation with you, starts to eat with you and even gives you sandwiches from who knows where because he is under extreme care after what happened the last time and totally banned from being out of the Ark like Jimmy and Verity, and everything is new because you're interacting with humans near your age range, you really are and that part of your brain which is a sociable creature is producing chemical happiness only by being in a group that recognizes your existence after so long.
It's good, fantastic, really, and you tell Sideswipe so after stopping him from picking you up one day to stay more time with the others.
You still ask to yourself if some word was rude or... Not exactly sure how to explain why he looked so down, nor why you tell Hunter no in the end and go back to Sides who is absentmindedly on his habsuit but almost jumps out of his oversized bed to greet you before asking for a favor.
Far from their shared habsuit, Sunstreaker is doing something that makes one of the most stupid but important things he has been getting ready for, moving as he can while most of his wounds are now repaired, his pride damaged beyond repair when he feels the movement on the door, there isn't much to expect when he already knows who it is, the human, well, no longer only human, Hunter, is standing just there, a bag full of the supposed essentials on his shoulder, Sunstreaker can't say anything, can't scoff at his organic nature's features that need aid of such mundane things nor can he make a joke about it.
Because he is very much headless with Hunter walking to him, is the middle of the night cycle and no one knows what they are going to do, the deal they have done.
Sunstreaker can't and will not leave his head to human supposed scientists to play with, Hunter wants to stop hearing him and, even if he denies it both ways, he feels bad for the mech.
"It was about time", Sunstreaker gets down the medbay berth room as fast and coordinate as he can in his state, is little more easy when he uses the bond to look through Hunter's eyes, guiding him in some way even if he is going to deny it later.
Hunter, already familiar with his attitude, can only sigh and get near to the mech's pedes, "sorry, I tried to say goodbye to some of the guys", well, he at least did to most of them, Jimmy and Verity seem to have catched onto something rare happening and maybe he didn't have to do it, seems that Sunstreaker hasn't even talked with his own twin about this, as for you, he only got to say bye hurriedly because you were fast to go with Sideswipe.
The thoughts pop up and it's normal, but he is already feeling the slow movement of Sunstreaker's body, if he had his head on, it would have been the same as if the guy was about to stomp on him, "If you're gonna court Side's pet do it when we get back, better to check that one out fast" he is talking alone, again, while moving around the room and expecting the next movement of the human.
Hunter's voice is sincere, like always, it's strange, because their voices are starting to sound the same and is reaching the point of it to be unnerving, to both of them, "You get that I wasn't the one initiating it or that I can't exactly stop it, right?", The mere idea makes him remember some of the most crazy and high daze induced alien movies he has ever seen on his life, of course most alien movies don't even make full sense of reason, but now that the he is a part of the real deal-
"What does that mean?" His tone is dangerous in everyway, but Hunter has learned to round those up and return back with a response, long gone are the days in where he cowardly shut his mouth against Sunstreaker.
"Means what it means, dude", he changes, his body does now, and he has a new view when Sunstreaker links them both, looking whole again in one of the windows that reflects them, Sunstreaker loves himself more than anything, but Hunter can't stop the disgusted expression in the glass and looks back at him.
"Means what you can tolerate now, I guess", there is just so much they can take from one another, or how much they can tolerate, being Hunter the holder of the almost never ending peace if it's needed, keeping Sunstreaker down, or at least to listen, is hard as it is, so imagine his surprise to the internal notifications popping in front of him when he notices you are also there, the body almost jumping backwards in order to stop any collision, looking like you just saw a ghost, a nightmare, and they don't need to ask about it.
You just saw Hunter became Sunstreaker's helm, but you can't let that show, there is only one certainty, this bot is Sunstreaker, maybe, he is looking at you with hardly covered disgust as always, but Hunter knows best and he can see every alert of their shared HUD telling him to avoid confrontation after a second passing notification gave the protocol of auto preservation to knock you out int that moment.
No matter how much Sunstreaker denies it or how much this seem surreal for Hunter, the mech cares for you, way too much.
"Sides-", you change your words, looking around, the yellow blanket that Sunstreaker likes so much on the zipper bag as always and it makes him stop on his steps, "Sideswipe told me to have a sleepover with you".
Of course the little fragger did, it doesn't seem out of sense, "Listen to me, human, I-".
"No, you listen to me", well, that's new, all this time you have cowered away, kept your mouth tightly shut and you head low everytime he said something, apparently now you're growing some courage, Sunstreaker isn't sure if he hates it or if he likes it he likes it, he likes it a lot, "Whatever is happening I don't really want to know, but", it seems like what you want to say is being held back by some kind of restraint, but you force it out when Sunstreaker is about to leave, "but please think of Sideswipe", your voice is a mere whisper, not even Red Alert would have heard it, to that much all the courage in your body sums up at it seems, and while Hunter feels bad for you Sunstreaker doesn't show the same sympathy.
"This doesn't have anything to do with Sides or you", his resolution is final, even when Hunter tries to negotiate the situation, but it's wasted time, you aren't even near the alert bottom, there is no way you can say to anybot that he is out of the medical bay or on his way to who knows where.
Still, the fire ignited on you doesn't stop, it keeps growing, "That spark isn't only yours", he is having enough of this, you acting all though, exventing, tired, and practically leaving you to whisper like a mad thing alone in your own chatting, "it's also Sideswipe's, he may say he is good alone but he needs you, you need him-", he makes a sound with his vents, like a scoff, and while Hunter can't believe Sunstreaker is really going to leave you there, embarrassed, in the verge of tears, the raise in volume do get their attention, both stop dead on their way when you really had enough, "you weren't here!", as if your daring didn't know any limits now you did shout, and Sunstreaker is almost sure at least one bot may have heard you, while he looks at the still empty corridors, "you weren't here, you didn't see him almost going into whatever equivalent you have of alien depression! You weren't here and now you must be because Sideswipe-!"
"This doesn't have anything to do with Sideswipe, this is my thing, my business and my personal matters so give me a break and go back to whatever cave you came from", he hissed back, low but the threatening of his words is still there, it doesn't stop you, there is a crazy tint on your eyes while you point a finger at him.
"You, you, you, it's always about you!", now you're full on screaming, almost shrieking, a limit being finally broken, "I don't care about you!", Hunter has to shut up before saying anything, because your words seem to have been a low blow, hate permeating all your words, "I never cared for you, I care for my friends! I care for Sides! And you are the fucking shit that comes along with him, I don't care what you do or if you go die, I would be happy if you did it alone but I don't want to lose Sides because of you!", as if your words didn't stung enough you throw the blanket to the floor and it makes the expression of the mech to darken even more by an strange feeling, "leave Hunter behind, leave your spark behind!"
For a moment it seems like Sunstreaker is trying to reach out to you, maybe to kill you by your bravery, you would expect something like that from him, either way the autobots are coming, you made as much noise as possible and your throat is raw by it, but if they can stop whatever madness he is trying to do then so be it, but, far from touching you he goes for the blanket, the stupid, obnoxious blanket.
A vain mech, even when you're insulting him, the almost hurt expression he has doesn't even matter to you now.
There is no much to expect, you can already hear the autobots come and so he does, looking at you in a way that makes you shudder, scared of him, Sunstreaker doesn't have time for this and changes to alt mode.
You don't know nothing, he want to tell you, he really does, shout it to your face, but he really can't think of it when someone else is hearing his thoughts.
There is deafening silence, partially, only the sound of his tires can be heard and is all he wants to hear, he can also see- sense what he is feeling, and Hunter feels bad for him.
"Sunstreaker-"
"Don't-", his voice is hard, low yet powerful in a way he hadn't heard so far, "don't you dare say anything, I don't need it".
He says so, and Hunter prefers to not say a word about it, don't even mentionthe now shredded yellow blanket by his transformation seams on his back seat.

Oh gosh, I’m so excited to request <3.
may I request a GN!human Reader x G1!Starscream, maybe he tried to capture the reader while they were out with Jazz or any other autobot and failed and now he’s stranded with them?
Hiiii friend!!!!! I'm sorry this took foreverrrrr! I lost my writing spark :( but dont worry i've been trying my best to revive it! Hopefully it will be soon!!! I hope this is what you were looking for and I once again and so sorry this took forever! ENJOY :)
Pairing: G1!Starscream x GN!Human!Reader
Warnings: NONE,
Your mission turned south far too quickly, with you and Jazz now being stuck with this forsaken Decepticon. The Con thought it’d be a smart idea to capture you, a “lonesome” human. The simple thought that if Jazz just looks away for one singular second he can snatch you up, and run like hell back to the Decepticon base.
Now here you sit, stranded in a cave, on this floating rock with the con who just tried kidnapping you and Jazz. They were at each other necks, Jazz bring up great points about just not doing the shit he just tried, while Starscream refuses to accept the fact that he, himself, fucked up one of his mastermind plans.
“How is it MY fault that you messed up your own plan Screamer.”
Jazz’s servos were gesturing towards his chassis, he had a frown plastered under his visor. While Starscream stood a good distance from Jazz with his arms crossed over his chassis.
“Well, if you had just kept looking towards the right AND didn’t keep asking that pesky human questions every single second, I could have captured them.”
Starscream pointed his helm upwards, he looked like he was pouting. Wait, did he say pesky, How is he going to call you pesky when he’s always being pesky. You pointed at him, catching the attention of both mech in the process.
“You, Starscream, have no room to call anyone pesky. Just look at yourself, constantly being a problem for everyone.”
They both stared at you, blue and red optics staying on you as if you just spoke of primus. You thought you took it too far, but the seeker just scoffed. Moving away from you and the bot before taking a seat.
“Keep talking all you want Organic. My plan was perfect until Jazz ruined it.”
He still sat with that pout on his face plating, thinking he, like always, is correct in this situation. Starscream just never changes, no matter how much time goes by. He will always put himself on a pedestal
You don’t know how long had passed since you three had been down there, all you knew was Jazz has tried his comms in several different locations and only one has picked something up, or at least had some static on the other side. Starscream still sat in his corner, nothing changed with him. Sitting there blaming this entire ordeal on Jazz and you. You sighed, eyes scanning the large cavern for anything, until they landed on Jazz. His optics looked in the dark, before he started moving in that direction. You followed, trying your best to keep up with the mech but his large size and longer legs carried him faster than you were expecting. You tried to keep an eye on him, watching as he walked off while trying to find a spot where his comms came through.
“Jazz!”
Your voice echoed off the walls of the cavern, but the mech didn’t stop. You sighed, coming to a stop as you attempted to catch your breath before returning to Starscream.
“Where’d you go?”
You didn’t even look at him, just released a sigh as you sat across from him. You were now stuck with him. Your hands came up to rub your eyes, today was starting to get worse and worse. Almost caught by the cons, stuck in a cave with jazz and that same con who attempted to kidnap you, and now it was just you and him.
“I went running after Jazz. Not a clue where he’s going.”
You fell backwards, back meeting the cold and bumpy rocks of the floor, your eyes closed to keep dust from getting in them. Your only hope was that maybe Jazz would come back with another way out of here, or some great life changing news that someone was coming to get you. Your head was hurting, and you were readying to just take a nap, anything would be better than just being stuck in this moment.
You heard beeping coming from Starscream. Starscream, out of all the times you’ve come in contact with him, this has to be the only time you’ve been able to be around him. He’s not trying to hurt you, call you names, or take you back to Megatron for interrogation, you actually didn’t know the Con as well as you thought you did.
“Do you actually think humans are pesky?”
Your questions came out far quicker than you liked. There was a long pause, you didn’t move or breathe. Hoping that maybe he’d just ignore your questions and act like he didn’t hear you, but he didn’t.
“You're all like insects,”
He paused, you lifted your head to see him, he was squirting at you, helm raised a bit. He looked funny, you quietly giggled to yourself. Insects, he really likes to use that to describe humans.
“Is that the only word you use? I feel like there's opportunities for better or more unique words. I mean it makes sense, to you guys were like ants. Interesting, why don’t you call us ants? Does Cybertron have ants?? Bugs????”
You opened your mouth to ask another question but stopped, letting out a light laugh. He didn’t even attempt to answer your question, just sticking to the first one he heard.
“There's other words, but ‘insect' describes what you are best at. A pesky insect.”
“If I'm a pesky insect then what are you??”
He thought, red optics staring at your form laying on the ground, starfished, unbothered by his words and presence. He’s tried kidnapping you multiple times and here you are still holding a normal conversation with him, as if he hasn’t put your life at risk many times. Are all humans like this or is it just you? Have you been so desensitized to Cybertronians that not even him, Starscream the one con who put you in danger multiple times, can put you off or scare you.
He spent far too much time thinking, because when he remembered where he was and who he was with, you were already taking that npa you had thought about. You were comfortable enough to be asleep near him, he just stared at you. Watching as your chest was rising and falling in an even pattern, and you occasionally rolled over on your side or moved your head. He let out a small sigh, picking up his arm and messing with some of those coms links he had, maybe he’ll get something, his digits pressing strings of buttons before he let his arm fall, optics landing on your form once again.
“I guess you're not as pesky as the other humans.”

"Galahad (played by Jonny d'Ville): a travelling preacher/religious zealot who is told to sit in the Siege Seat by Merlin, and discovers the fact that Fort Galfridian is falling into the star Avalon. He sparks the quest for the GRAIL, and willingly goes to his death to overcome its final defences." DUDE SAT IN THE CHAIR THAT IS KNOWN FOR KILLING PEOPLE BECAUSE HIS CRUSH [MERLIN] [AKA HANGED MAN] [AKA DRUMBOT BRIAN] TOLD HIM TO . SORRY I THINK THATS REALLY FUNNY. he found out the whole shitshow of a spacestation he lived on was gonna fall into the sun and he went around yelling about it incomprehensibly and got fucking gunned down trying to get the GRAIL and just kept going through the gunfire because of how Religious [tm] he was . he died . in once and future king it just "galahad's blind faith" . also hellfire goes really hard . he is the definition of going insane with the knowledge of the universe . also jonny dville played him thats bonus points
There was a prophet. The prophet gave three separate people three separate instructions. 1. Stop being racist 2. Love your son 3. Sit in the Chair That Makes People Insane Galahad received number three. He was the only one who followed the instructions. He sat in the Chair That Makes People Insane, saw the sun for the first time, and immediately starts preaching about how everyone will burn in hellfire
i dont know anything about this guy i just wanna help make Kai happy please dont like not count my submission just because i dont know anythinf except for the Kills You Chair im trying my best im sorry 😭
his themesong is called hellfire and it slaps btw go listen to it. anyways he is my blorbo blingus he is Deeply unwell i could fix him but also whatever is wrong with him is incredibly fascinating to watch. a robot dude who's been hanging from the gallows since forever told him 'hey go sit in the Chair That Kills People Who Sit In It' and he was like 'I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT MY ENTIRE LIFE'. the getting-his-brain-fried thing definitely made him worse but he was also clearly kind of fucked up before that. his death is probably one of my favorite scenes in any mechs album. maybe just straight up my favorite. ahem. SAY WHAT YOU WILL ABOUT FAITH, BUT IT CAN HAVE POWERFUL EFFECTS ON THOSE THAT HAVE IT. IT CAN KEEP YOU FROM FALTERING AS THE BULLETS START TO SLAM INTO YOU. IT CAN KEEP YOU WALKING AS YOU LEGS ARE SHOT TO BLOODY STUMPS. IT CAN KEEP YOU LAUGHING AS YOUR LUNGS ARE FILLED WITH SHRAPNEL AND LEAD. IT CAN KEEP YOU SMILING AS HALF YOUR FACE IS BLOWN AWAY. IT CAN KEEP A MAN LIKE GALAHAD STANDING TALL UNTIL THE GUNS. CLICKED. DRY. anyways go listen to high noon over camelot <3
my friends my people my... flock I HAVE HAD A VISION!! A VAST FIERY ORB FLOATIN IN AN ENDLESS VOID!! and there so small so feagile US!!! BUT FALLIN FALLIN FALLIN INTO THE FLAMES!!! your soul is connected to the world youre in youre draggin it down with the weight of your sin surrounded by temptation and y'just give in we're fallin into the flames OF THAT FIRE THAT FIRE THAT HEEEEELLLLLLFIIIRE YOUR BROW BECOMES SLICK AS YOU PERSPIRE YOU THINK YOURE THIRSTY NOW WAIT TIL IT GETS DRIER AND YA FEEL THE HEAT OF THE FLAMES OF THAT FIRE THAT FIRE THAT HELLFIRE YOUR SICK AND SINFUL LIES WILL BUILD A FUNERAL PYRE YOUR PERVERSION SCARS THE STATION SON ITS GONAN FRY HER AND WE ALLLLLL FALL INTO THE FLAMES... oh i have SEEN DAMNATION MY BROTHERS!! ive FELT its searing heat within my VERY BONES !!!!!!! but there is a way me be saved... "OH TELL US FATHER GALAHAD, TELL US" I HEAR YOU CRY "IS IT PIETY IS IT PURITY IS IT VIRTUE?" NO!!! ONLY WAY TO SAVE US NOW IS THE HOLY GRAIL ITSELF... HAHAHAHAHHAAAA.... Ok i know this is kind of a shot in the dark because hes so obscure but i need to speak my truth. Hes so insane. The narrator calls him a “holy roller.” He has a vision which is meant to tell him that the place they live is LITERALLY going to get burnt to a crisp because its slowly falling into the sun. But hes like Oh my god i just had a vision of hell i need to save everyone from eternal damnation. And he happily gets killed and turned into a pile of slop because he believes its what he was “chosen to do” he quite literally dies for his religion. Hes also quite funny. I like him. Thank you

As much as I love pregnant Sentinel, I really love chubby Sentinel. After being demoted from his position, he gets depressed and starts eating more than usual. He neglects his strict diet and workout sessions. He gains weight, and it makes him more depressed. He starts to hate his frame and becomes very anxious about other bots looking at his frame. He unfortunately comes across to the mech he very much hates. Apparently, he had to be in a meeting in which he was late, and the only seat available was beside Optimus Magnus. He sat beside him and tried to avoid contact and tried to keep a distance. It's been a cycle (1 year) before the two of them meet, Optimus, when seeing Sentinel was schock by his frame. He's familiar with Sentinel being devoted to keeping his frame fit. Sentinel feels Optimus intense gaze at him. He starts to feel his face starts blushing and optics wanting to spill because he thinks the Magnus is judging or worse, making fun of him. However, it was the opposite, Optimus was very attracted to Sentinel's new frame form. He started to have inappropriate thoughts and was barely paying attention to the meeting. After the meeting, Optimus immediately went to his bedroom and started to jerk off, he overloads fast from too much excitement. Perhaps the Magnus can pull some strings to have a proper chat with his old buddy. Cue to the sex, Optimus has Sentinel in a missionary position and has Sentinel thick thighs around his waist. He is practically destroying Sentinel's fat tight valve. Sentinel screams and moans like a pornstar. Sentinel already made a mess due to Optimus eating him out like an animal and sucking on those fat valve lips and that beautiful big clit. Optimus obviously show love to those fat thighs and have them sorround by his helm. Optimus realized that Sentinel is a squirter and is determined to get another one. While fucking Sentinel, he was fondling Sentinel belly which made Sentinel had mixed feelings. Optimus then kisses the belly and worships it. This made Sentinel quickly overload and scream out Optimus name. He mewls when he was full of Optimus transfluids in his birth chamber. Thinking it was over, Optimus flips him, burries his face on his fat aft cheeks, and starts eating Sentinel out of his aft with a strong grip. Being sensitive, he pleaded for Optimus to stop. Instead, he got a swat on his aft and had no choice but to endure it. After finally overloading, he passes out. Optimus, being the gentlemech he is, cleans Sentinel and himself. He then carries back Sentinel to berth and starts spooning him, giving him helm kisses and on the mouth while fondling his belly and closes his optics. Bonus scene: Sentinel wakes up and finds himself in Optimus bed and remembers last night. Optimus comes back with breakfast and smiles warmly towards Sentinel. Sentinel breaks the ice and asks why he had interface with him? Doesn't he find the minor mech to be disgusting? Did he interface with him to mock him? Optimus is broken by Sentinel's questions. He persistently tells Sentinel that wasn't the case. He tells him he finds Sentinel very attracted and interface with him because he kind of missed him. He goes on in telling that no matter what shape Sentinel has, Optimus will always find him beautiful. Sentinel, after dealing with self-hatred and body dysphoria, he starts crying, and Optimus starts comforting and kisses Sentinel. Sentinel, after calming down, he feels Optimus hand on this panels, and he starts feeling warm. Perhaps being chubby isn't so bad.
listen, pregnant Sentinel and chubby Sentinel don’t have to be two separate categories. they overlap… if you believe.
mhmmm, Sentinel gains so much weight now that his life had gone a completely different direction than he’d planned – he’s been demoted and Optimus, bumbling, ambitionless Optimus became Magnus instead of him. I’m always in favour of weight gain signifying positive change but… i can get behind Sentinel overeating because he’s stressed and nervous and his motivation to keep up his good figure just plummets. People probably notice that he’s gaining weight and it just upsets him and when he’s upset he eats even more. He becomes five times as unpleasant due to his insecurity and his grudge for Optimus grows immeasurable.
Optimus was always aware Sentinel was attractive but now that he got fat he’s blissed out, staring at him constantly. Sentinel looks really good now that he’s filled out. Thick thighs and a fat belly suit him so well, and most importantly, they make Optimus blind with lust. He wants Sentinel in his bed, and gets just that. Eventually.
aw Sentinel thinking Optimus only fucked him to mock him, or that it was a dare, or to take pictures of his gross body and show everyone – Optimus is almost angry that Sentinel thinks he’d do something like that. I hope that after everything has been sorted out, Optimus gets to feed Sentinel all sorts of tasty fuels. Sentinel tried to watch his figure for a while because as much as he hates to admit it, having Optimus at his side made him feel better, but he decided against it. Optimus likes him this way. And also, he won't stand for it when Sentinel refuses to fuel.

[ Starter for @for-the-better-and-worse ]
It takes Rodimus very little time to find what he assumes is the hole Prowl enjoys burrowing himself in. A place like this isn't all too hard to find, especially when all you have to do is find the last building you saw him in, and look for the one single hallway people avoid walking through at any given time.
The whole place is desolate. Perhaps a little more now with Starscream in charge. Rodimus has seen people, and he's certainly heard people, but it all feels superficial. Mechs he doesn't know, and won't ever bother getting to know.
In all honesty, Rodimus had been in Cybertron for nearly two days now. He hadn't want to give Prowl that satisfaction, and he would frankly never admit that Megatron and Ultra Magnus did, in fact, let him go without much trouble. He'd say his excuse of 'Urgent call from Cybertron, Prowl won't stop bothering me to help. Says only I can do it,y'know how he is' had been convincing, but he can never tell these days. He could've probably just left without saying anything and Rodimus is sure they'd only notice when they realize the quiet. (and the missing vessel)
When he knocks on the door and there is no answer, Rodimus simply makes himself at home. The door is unlocked (which shocks him to a degree, he'd expect Prowl to be better than this) and the inside is dark and gloomy and ridiculously organized, a feat Rodimus both appreciates as familiar, and is repulsed by due to the simple fact it reminds him of who lives here. Making sure not to leave a trail (Prowl is a detective, but Rodimus is stealth-- he knows not to be obvious when he wants to), Rodimus goes through a few surface level items, checking everything he can, gathering whatever fucked up personal information he can while Prowl is away. He's not trying to find anything to blackmail the mech, he is Prowl, after all, and everyone's got something on him, but he does enjoy going through people's things, reading things he is probably not meant to. Simply taking his time exploring his surroundings.
His (very careful, very methodical) research gives him a single screaming result: Prowl is boring, and he works and works and works, and doesn't even give himself the pleasure of having doodle pads. It's almost sad, really.
Disappointed but not deterred, Rodimus is quick to find a nice, cozy spot to wait Prowl in. (Which happens to be a particularly tight closet. er. He's not picky.) The runaway Captain inspects the door, shrugs, and closes it, trying to wiggle into a comfortable position, and promptly getting the edge of his spoiler stuck in-- God, he doesn't even know what it's gotten stuck in, but it hurts like a motherfucker, and he can't do anything about it now, because the more he struggles the worse it gets wedged in there. Oh, yeah, and he hears someone come in.

okay a few people have asked now abt steelheart redux so i will do my best to give an overview the maelstrom of vague thoughts it consists of at the moment
basically, steelheart is the oc story i've been posting a shitton of on and off for the past while. steelheart redux refers specifically to its latest iteration, which is completely (mostly) sci-fi and mech driven as opposed to the standard dragon rider story it was before.
it focuses primarily on these guys!
Tumblr media
arthur is a human, while zarian is a DRACO, specifically a v1, which i will elaborate on below the readmore bc this is a little long haha
the setup for the story is essentially this:
the DRACOs (version 1, aka v1s) are big draconic mechs that are basically the equivalent of a super high-tech fighter jet with some other bells and whistles, the most notable being that they're pretty much human powered. but to be efficiently powered long-term, they have to be (or have part of them, really) permanently fused to a human host (or any living creature, technically, but humans are what they're like. made for).
despite all that, stuff surrounding their creation goes pretty well for a while, until the v1s mysteriously 'wake up'-- as in, suddenly attain self-aware consciousness, and start talking to their hosts (known as pilots) who understandably take this pretty badly. it's like if the fighter jet you've been flying around and are also kind of biologically fused to suddenly grew a brain and started asking about your day. things get even worse when the company producing the v1s attempts to like. undo this by forcing out an update patch, which has the unintended effect of corrupting the (previously entirely benevolent, just curious) v1s and turning them into crazed murder machines. stuff is bad for a while.
the ACTUAL story takes place 15 years after this, when stuff still isn't amazing but has mostly evened out. the company responsible for the v1s collapsed in the initial chaos, but from its ashes came a new company, Defenex, which has been producing DRACO v2s. they're the sleeker, badder cousins to the v1, made for the sole purpose of protecting towns from and hunting down remaining v1s. they're also, very critically, Not Mysteriously Self-Aware like the v1s are (or. were?) which is good.
the plot follows arthur steele, a fifteen year old boy living in one of the surviving cities, who through a series of accidents comes to be permanently fused to a (mysteriously un-murderous but distinctly unhappy) v1 calling himself Zarian. at first, his goal is to get Zarian removed from his back so they can go their separate ways and he can go back to his unremarkable, relatively safe life. unfortunately, this does not go according to plan. at all. but in the process, they start learning more about the mysterious origins of the DRACO incident and asking questions some people REALLY don't want answered. along the way, they make a few friends, come to actually like each other, and accidentally develop a reputation as Public Enemy #1, Definitely Evil, Kill On Sight. oops.
and that's the gist! i know... a lot of what happens, within that window, but most stuff isn't like nailed down clearly or in order yet, because i've discovered that while i am good with coming up with originally story ideas, actually plotting one from start to finish, coherently and satisfactorily, does NOT come naturally to me at all.
but, at the very least, it has become a fun brain playground and happiness generator, because i am veeery attached to these guys. moreso than i ever have gotten about my own ocs in my whole life tbh
:)

honestly, Amity's hair color is the perfect metaphor for her character. She's still hiding her true colors, she's just trying to match Luz instead of Odalia.
So even at the time, when I was still deep in the paint of TOH, I had a major problem with it as far as the themes, metaphors and just designs of TOH went. Put both Amity and Luz at that time into their Hexside uniforms. Then silhouette them so you have no colors. Now try to tell me which is which.
It was a genuine problem for me during that time period where I'd see sketch fanart of Lumity and have to look for Amity's ears because otherwise the two are indistinguishable from each other. Like yes, it's a MUCH more boring hairstyle and I'm with others that there's just way too much purple in the show so Amity's green hair helped her actually stand out but this really was a big problem and got worse as I got more critical of Lumity. After all, this moment of making sure she has her own identity, stands out from others and will decide her own fate... And she looks the fucking same as another character now, blending in more easily with them. Then she just goes on to slowly have the rest of her personality and life (which were already doing this, thank you "your grades are slipping" from Escaping Expulsion for that one) consumed by her role of girlfriend.
It makes what should be such a character defining moment anything but that. Hell, it isn't even a complete schism from her family's desires and wishes. She still goes on to effectively helm Blight Industries after all, or so I presume unless she started her own competing abominations factory which still doesn't fix that that's STILL what Odalia would have wanted had Amity failed to get into the EC. It's still living in the shadow of her father's legacy and following in his own footsteps.
It's actually the one major cue from Hunter that Amity takes for her arc which really doesn't help the two feel like they aren't the same character. At least with Hunter, we only have one action that's confirmed as being the same as those he's supposed to be rejecting so as to find his own personhood: Rejecting Belos. There's a lot more we can claim but that's the only one 100% confirmed.
Amity though? Her future includes dedicating herself to a potentially unhealthy degree to her partner while also commercializing her magic into mech-infused abominations. Even if Lumity is healthy post the series, nothing about Amity's behavior doesn't imply she'd drop everything for Luz at a moment's notice and Alador gave the same impression. So... She just became her dad? Why?
Then again, when you are a show that seems to actually struggle to write a diverse cast of characters (I mean personality wise, not ethnicity), this is going to happen. Dana is a good enough artist though that the silhouette problem shouldn't have happened. That should have been caught and stopped immediately, not when it's so antithetical to the point of the moment. I guess you could say it's to show she still needs to make another step to becoming her own person but that never really happens, does it? And we explicitly know they didn't have proper plans for it to happen.
So yeah, it really is just perfect for who Amity became, even right down to being a worse design to go alongside girlfriend Amity being such a worse character.

Can you write about Rodimus, Swerve, and Whirl sneaking on their human s/o computer because they’re curious. and they accidentally install a bunch of viruses and other stuff?
I’m in a silly mood so I shall!!
Whirl:
- Where is his human >:((
- Charges into your hab suite as if he is coming to kill you, but in reality that’s just how he says hello
- Human isn’t here?? Puter!!!!
- Ok fr whirl is the WORST person to ever have open access to your personal stuff. He doesn’t even try to hide the fact he was on your computer. That bird is opening every file, clicking on pop ups to try and go down a rabbit hole.
- He wants to see if you’re secretly as fucked up as he is, if you are, congrats! Whirl feels terrible that you went through a similar experience to him.
You return, head pounding from the droning of Ultra Magnus and his list of highly specific rules that you promise to yourself you will never memorize. Honestly you just wanted a warm drink, your cozy pajamas, and your big bird to cuddle with. Hopefully he wasn’t feeling too chaotic today. Upon opening your bedroom door you found that wasn’t going to be the case. There was whirl, hunched over your tiny laptop that was blue screened, one golden optic staring back at you.
“Hey, ‘puter broke.”
“Goddamnit Whirl.”
Swerve:
- Actually the only person on this list allowed to use your laptop, specifically for watching human shows/YouTube.
- One day however, after watching one too many hacker shows and a couple computer tech tutorials, curiosity gets the better of swerve and he opens up the files on your laptop.
- He types in a few commands, hoping to discover the hidden secrets of the human internet. Totally not looking for anything dirty you may have saved. All goes well at first, he does end up finding some dirt on you. Good luck keeping that a secret now btw.
- Until he goes into your settings and completely messes up your computer. He’s freaking out, what did he just do!? Swerve is frantically trying to fix everything and just making it worse. The poor minibot starts panicking when he imagines your angry face seeing how he messed up your computer.
Seeing Swerve crying in front of your laptop was... surprisingly not uncommon. Usually the answer was a very sad earth movie, or perhaps even ultra cute earth animals. So when you went to comfort your mech you were taken aback when he tried to push you away.
“Swerve, what’s wrong?”
“I-I-I messed up! I really, really messed up! I’m so sorry Y/N.” The bot burst into tears when you saw the state of your computer and gasped. Babbling about how it was his fault and an accident and he would do anything to make it up to you. Your sweet kiss shuts him up effectively. “You’re not... Mad?”
“No, we can work this out together.” Your computer was fine.
Rodimus:
- Him? With unrestricted internet access? That’s the set up to a bad joke.
- Roddy got bored and like the devious totally innocent captain he is, decided to look at what you’ve been up to online. Please please imagine him laying on his stomach with his feet kicking in the air on this tiny ass laptop this is so funny to me.
- Definitely checks ALL your socials. Dating all the way back to when you were still on earth. His spark warms a bit seeing you so happy on a planet he’s been to before. Maybe makes a few embarrassing posts as you on your social media.
- Checks your search history to see if there’s anything raunchy. Rodimus ends up on some really sketchy websites. And yeah, he does try to download a car.
- Freaks out when suddenly a thousand pop ups start clouding the screen of your laptop. OH- Oh he’s in big trouble now.
“What are you doing?”
The prime lets out an indignant shriek as he slams your laptop shut. Your accusing tone mocking his very existence. Wide blue optics meet your eyes, and he tries to give you a smile. A very, guilty looking smile.
“NOTHING! Nothing, I mean. Just being your captain and making sure you aren’t hiding some super secret earth information or anything.” Primus, that sounded bad even by his standards. Your crossed expression was what broke him however, and with a pout handed you back your laptop.
Needless to say he was definitely grounded from the internet the next month or so, child locks and all.

actually I also want to talk about the mechs’ approaches to the concept of good and evil and why literally none of them are anywhere near good
under the cut because it got so so long
I truly believe there was a point in Jonny’s life when he wanted to be good. That time was a decade past even by the time he met Carmilla. I think Jonny learned pretty early on that good was not an option for him, which soon morphed into a deeply-held belief that good is not something he is capable of. In reaction to this, he leans heavily into being terrible (see Interview Transcript). He believes there are good things and evil things (and plenty of ambiguity as well), and he finds good admirable, if uncommon and more than a little naive, but I think he fundamentally believes that any part of him that might have once been good was broken beyond repair before he became a teenager.
Nastya, on the other hand, views herself as capable of goodness. Sometimes. If she’s lucky and not missing anything and nothing goes wrong (see the storming of the Winter Palace). She even tried, post-mechanization, to continue to be good. But between the events leading up to her death and the unending horrors that followed, she came to the conclusion that good is not worth it. Good gets you hurt or killed or blows up in ways that make things even worse. She keeps to herself, looks out for herself and her own, and will actively hurt anyone else (because given the chance, they’ll almost certainly eventually do the same).
In a similar vein, Ashes probably figured out “good” doesn’t get you anywhere by the time they were eight. Good got you taken advantage of or killed. They do value loyalty-- if you’ve formed a relationship with someone and you value it, you will help them out, or at least not sell them out (cough mickey). This is honestly more pragmatism than anything, though-- they had no issue leaving Daedalus to die, despite having a “deal.” Mostly it applies to people they’re stuck with. Not betraying people makes things much easier when you have to spend a lot of time around those people. Do they care, in some weird way, deep down? Yes. Are they personally hurt by betrayal? Also yes. But for them, it’s the consequence of picking the wrong person to do business with, and bad things happening is as natural a force as stars shining-- including when they’re the person doing the bad things.
I think Ivy actually values good and sees it both as a desirable trait and one she’s capable of. She just has... a really skewed view of what constitutes good. A combination of trauma, personality, and the inevitable corruption of immortality have led her to an extremely utilitarian set of ethics (”for the greater good”). The “greater good” is very often preservation of knowledge, and that comes above everything else-- human life, continued existence of planets, etc. I firmly believe that at least once, the mechs have been on a planet where some authority was trying to destroy Terrible Knowledge before it could make it into the hands of their enemies, and Ivy brought it to those enemies for the sake of keeping it known. This may have led to the destruction of the whole planet, but at least the survivors fleeing from the wreckage still had the records! Ivy’s perspective is so zoomed out that most petty immoral actions (murder, theft, whatever the hell “neuro-arson” is) don’t really register as important one way or another.
Brian. Brian is a master of moral justifications. His two settings correspond to the most extreme possible version of the moral philosophies they represent: EJM Brian might destroy an entire planet to prevent the possibility of an interplanetary epidemic, whereas MJE Brian might give corrupt authorities the information that leads to mass arrests and executions because it would be wrong to lie to them. Also I think he enjoys coming up with these justifications and playing with being the moral equivalent of the monkey’s paw.
As far as the Toy Soldier is concerned, it’s not a person. Good and evil are person things. It’s exempt. I very much read its backstory as it slowly coming to reject humanity and all the things that come with it-- emotion, responsibility, even pronouns that don’t traditionally refer to objects (the latter of which can absolutely be read as voidpunk, but there is certainly room to criticize the other two). TS does what it wants, because it doesn’t see itself as part of the group obligated to follow moral rules.
Tim had a moral compass at one point. Maybe even a decent one. But then the horrors of war, etc. Tim believes and behaves as if all of his goodness died with Bertie. He can do whatever he wants now, because what’s the point?
Raphaella does not believe in good and evil. At best, it’s a nice fairy tale, at the worst, it’s a fiction designed to repress freedom and independence. Like Ivy, Raphaella is driven by knowledge, but where Ivy preserves it, Raphaella discovers it-- at any cost. Nonconsensual human experimentation poses no issue to her, because it will yield knowledge. Of course, being rude or hurtful exists, and doing bad things without sufficient reason may be rude or hurtful, but it’s not evil or wrong. Mostly in those cases the main problem is that other people don’t like it.
I’m going to be honest, I’m still very shaky on my characterization of Marius beyond Funney Man (death of byron von raum WHEN), but at the moment I see his crimes as falling under impulsivity or revenge. He feels like killing someone? Sure. He’s really annoyed at someone so constructs an elaborate plot to drive them to madness? Sounds fun. He might have felt bad about it at one point, but by the time he settles into immortality he cares more about A) whether it made him personally feel better and B) welp, can’t change it anyway. In this way, he can be a bit like Jonny, but while Jonny will do bad things for the sake of doing bad things, Marius most often has at least some reasoning, or something he hopes to gain.
If you’re still here thank you for reading and I’d be very curious to hear other thoughts

Terraformers AU: Parental coding/protocol
Masterlist
Parental coding is something new for many mechs in my tf AU! in the sense that they already have something called mentor coding.
Mentor coding is the information makes activate when they are in charge of a young bot or a protoform, like in the new version of IDW tf comics where older bots adopted recently forged bots when they get out of Vector Sigma, any bot could've mentor coding but how they use it or what they do with it varies from one another, like Codexa (OP's mentor/mother) that loved OP so, so much, or Starscream's mom, who used her coding to use SC to her own benefit.
It's something similar in my AU! Most mechs have the normal mentor coding (the one above) and the mechs that spark bounded with an organic (specially humans) tend to have a derivative of the original mentor coding, called parental coding that was discovered by Perceptor (Percy scanned and Brainstorm almost dissected Rodimus) when he first noticed his strange behavior.
Parental coding is almost the same that the original one, but what makes it start is not the willing act of the mech downloading it or initiating it, they just get it and it's still debatable whether it happens when the spark makes contact with the organic partner or with the Terraformer sparkling.
When Rodimus had Sunset many just thought that he was being overreacting, like okay the kid is way more like a organic now but his derma will get harder with time, for Rodimus is a big no, he will protect his kidand and his conjunx, and it's normal to some point for a normal mentor but thinking that Rodimus can be quite exaggerated everyone passed it as normal before one human said that Rodimus looked like a first time father, apparently Rodimus is denominated as a sire since his parental coding (instincts) takes over him to protect his family as a whole.
Then there was Jazz, whose coding didn't hit him as hard as others in his relationship with his sparklings, it happened with his conjunx, when Mariah was old enough to ingest energon by herself he was... trying to impress his partner more times than ever, the very same Jazz admitted his desire to have another bity soon and that desire was showed by his natural cool and suave behavior multiplied by 5, the strange idea of reproduction engraved in his processor even when he knew it was impossible and what he needed to do was go with his conjunx to a hot spot, still, he and his conjunx enjoyed the outcome of his parental coding.
When Blurr had his first sparkling, a human baby, he goes with the flow of it, normal mentor coding kicking in his processor, guiding him alongside the videos about human parenthood, but when Ferventi Typhoon was forged? Every sense was thrown out of the window, even his own conjunx for a few years was almost ignored, his list of importance going from his sparklings in the very top, then his conjunx, then their necessities, then him and so on, many of his friends laugh when they remember this since he was the most self-centered mech they had ever meet, and now they see him carrying the little beans and acting like those kiddos are his whole world, he's been hit hard by his coding once again when Ripley and Ty were old enough to be out of the house and then his list changed again to center on his conjunx, he knew they couldn't conceive with sex/interface but couldn't take off the idea of his processor much like with Jazz.
Prowl, well, it's something that he will forever keep in a corner of his mind and deny to the very end, his coding seem to have activated since he meet his future conjunx, developing a sense, or urgency, to provide, did he found supplies or consumibles? He gets those for later, did you mention to be in need of something? The very same thing appears and oh surprise, Prowl has it in his servos and doesn't have a necessity for it, you can have it, he wasn't exactly subtle even if he believed that he was, this gets worse when you are finally his conjunx and it escalated when Chainbreaker was forged, he didn't develop that "need to sex/interface" ("sexy times" like Brainstorm called it) to try to proliferate but it could also have relation to be in charge of CB and be in alert all the time by his own past or whatever organic being CB created.
With Bumblebee it was more or less kind of mild, when he started to take care of Rosalinde everything was fine and his mentor coding was working as usual, no changes when he married you or when he spark bounded, when Blood Horn was forged Bee did notice the need to keep his family more safe, but that was normal right? Indeed, but it wasn't normal to storage so much organic food or make something similar to a nest in his resident area (he did a mess of blankets and pillows) where you couldn't even move with the little sparkling I your arms while Rosalinde tried to escape such a mortal trap (she kept on sleeping every second since it was so comfy), getting food there and overall being quite a good conjunx.

Ooh regarding shockbee I always thought a fun idea to write out would be Bee just dropping the fact that he has a Prime for a boyfriend or something like that, considering only Bulkhead would really know about being close to Longarm at Bootcamp-
Yep, Bee would defo do that. XD
He would be just talking with someone and then they'd mention something about relationships and Bee just casually drops that Longarm is his Sparkmate and the fact he's a very high ranking Prime(even if he's just doing datawork all the time).
Imagine the look on that bot's face when they hear that from a streetwise, dirty repair bot. They'd think he's lying but then Longarm shows up to pick him up from the party or something and everyone's jaws just drop.
Now i imagine Longarm and Bee got together at boot camp and only Bulkhead knew, they weren't really keen on showing affection in public. So then Bee gets kicked out and Longarms stays to graduate. They call each other all the time, Bulkhead sometimes joins, the rest of the crew doesn't really know about that.
But then Bee and the crew goes missing. Longarm is distraught, he does everything he can to find Bee. Then he hears about an expedition to this planet called "Earth" and he tags along and boom, they find each other.
So they get there, they find the missing crew and the Allspark and the few 'cons along with Megs. But that's not on Longarm's(Shockwave's) processor- the only thing he cares about is that Bee is alive. (also Bulkhead too, he does care about him but not as much as Bee)
Longarm visits quite often- he tagged along on Steelhaven and has his own mini-ship to fly in and out of Earth's atmosphere. The others are surprised he is at their base so often, they know he, Bee and Bulkhead went to boot camp together but that's about it.
Now i imagine Longarm bringing them sweets and stuff, he'll bring them meal-metals, fancy (non-'alcoholic') drinks and all sorts of snacks and maybe some small gifts- the one to get the most of them will be Bumblebee.
One time Longarm drops by for a real short visit and brings an entire energon cake for Bee only. And not just any cake, it's a high end one too, the luxurious kinda food. The others have no idea why Longarm would give Bee out of all the 'bots something like that.
"Because we're Sparkmates, duh. Also it's our anniversary." He casually said while taking another bite of the piece of the cake on his plate. The look on everyone's faces (except Bulkhead) is hilarious, especially Optimus'- the little mech he treated almost like a son is Sparkmates with the high-end Prime, Longarm. Longarm outranks him now that's he's on the repair crew, for the record.
So- the little, humble Bumblebee has access to luxurious stuff via his lover who's a high-positioned Prime. He's able to essentially get whatever he wants and indirectly influence other bots' lives- for the better or worse. They never expected someone like Bumblebee to have that kinda power.
The surprising part is that Bee doesn't really seem keen on all the opportunities for his own life to improve, he'd rather live his life to the full- and he does that by being stranded on a planted called dirt and helping tiny organics with mundane things while also indulging in their weird culture. Sure, he does like an occasional high-quality polish or rare cybertronian food, but most of the time he likes to run around in the rain and play in mud and dig in trash to find beautiful things. Similar to Bulkhead- he's happy with what he has, and enjoys spending time with the ones he cares about.
Still, the fact he doesn't take opportunities to get himself somewhere higher in life doesn't mean he won't do anything for others- he most definitelly pulls a few string to get stuff for his friends, for example; Ratchet gets better med equipment and Optimus gets access to specific files if he needs it. I imagine Prowl would get some ninja equipment from Jazz sometimes but that's not important.
It's a cool thing, a headcanon for the ship is you will, it's definitelly something Longarm(Shockwave) would do. Just spoil his little Bee with all the sweets. And Bee casually telling (or not) that his Sparkmate/Conjunx is a Prime. XD
