Some more TMA headcanons because I’ve thought of some more. Also apologies if this list is a little more chaotic than the other one x (Here’s the first list I make incase anyone’s interested)

Also if people have their own that they’d want to add feel free to because I love reading other people’s x

There’s probably going to be some spoilers for but I’ve tried to keep it as broad as possible :) x

Tim used to steal Jon’s pens - Not because he needed them he did it to annoy Jon

Tim once hid a plastic spider in Jon’s desk then pinned it on Martin

Gerry liked to make puns, Gertrude didn’t like Gerry’s puns - Or at least she pretended not too

Peters changed the locks multiple times but Elias just keeps finding his was back in

Georgie has that really nice kind of swoopy writing - I kind of feel Sasha did as well

Distortion Micheal likes the animated Alice in Wonderland film - Can’t think why… (If I had any artistic talent I’d draw him as the Cheshire Cat but I sadly I don’t have any)

Melanie used to make loom band bracelets - She never gave them to anyone but she’d use specific colours with specific people in mind

Elias likes to shout peoples names then not answer them when they shouted back asking what he wanted

Jon owns a few packs of some nice playing cards (Like the ones with cool pictures and stuff) but no one’s allowed to use them - He let Tim use them once but after he slightly bent the corner of one they became off limits to them all

Jon drinks black coffee because it seems like the mature thing to do

Tim drinks the super sweet coffees because they taste nicer and look pretty

Elias has one of them big spinning office chairs - He’s definitely done the James Bond villain spin

Daisy once told Martin she knew a great place to hide his body - She then proceeded to leave notes around the archives to remind him - Jon would also take the notes down

Not necessarily a headcanon but I just imagine series 5 Jared Hopworth in the garden with a necklace of various body parts and bones

Occasionally Basira would just look out to the fourth wall - I’m imagining it like fleabag style

During their travelling Gerry brought Gertrude a mug from a tourist shop - She kept saying she didn’t like it but once she was back in the archives she would use it all the time

Just Jon wearing some sparkly green nail polish

On the topic of Jon’s nails imagine him with those pointy acrylics - He’d either be in his element or he’d have the same vibe as a dog trying to walk in shoes

Both Micheal and Helen just pinging rubber bands at the backs of peoples head (I’ve got no real explanation for why they do it but then again neither have they)

Jon appreciates badgers - He got a little desk calendar with different pictures of them every month

When Martin was staying in the institute Jon gave him a blanket. He took the blanket with him when he started living at home again and started using it

Tim kept every card Sasha ever gave him

Sasha has a little pot of fake flowers on her desk

Jon pretends to he surprised every time Martin gives him a present - Especially if it’s an out of the blue ‘I saw this and thought of you’ present

Sasha and Tim went ice skating together one Christmas - They claimed it was as friends but Tim did give her flowers

Also some random side notes - Slight spoilers for series 4/5

Listened to 170 and immediately started crying at the end / The descriptions in 172 made me feel physically ill as someone who really doesn’t like spiders / Also I saw a thing on TikTok where someone took Gerry asking to be called Gerry and paired it with I Bet On Losing Dogs by Mitski and it was more upsetting than I was expecting xx

jon insisting on eating in his car during his lunch break for years after starting at the institute because he didn't want people watching him. jon trying intermittent fasting (with very little success) to try to lose even more weight when he's already very lean. jon weighing himself one morning and not being able to focus all day at work because he gained a pound or two over the holidays. jon always ordering an appetizer instead of a meal when he's dragged out to restaurants with the crew. only drinking water when other people are around, claiming it's because he's sober, but he isnt. jon having to admit to martin that he usually skips lunch when they move into the safehouse. it's only the second time martins ever seen him get misty-eyed. martin having to urge jon to finish his plate because he needs energy for their hike. jon not having eaten certain things like ice cream or cake since childhood because he was told those made him a "glutton" and then rediscovering how much he loves pistachio flavor. jon taking getting a to-go box for his food after only a few bites, but martin actually heats it up for him the next day. jon allowing himself to sleep in. jon no longer measuring his waist. jon no longer being able to see his ribs so clearly. jon no longer having to watch himself all day every day and make judgements about how he chews, how wide his hips are, how many snacks he's had......

I have done some personal soul searching and I know why jonathan jarchivist sims made the professional decisions he made when he was a Newly Minted Head Archivist

He tried to apply logic to the managerial decisions of a megalomaniac kind-of-immortal servant of a fear god, who was at the time posing as a Respectable Director of an Academic Institution

like listen. clearly jonah did not give a single flying fuck whether or not the archive was organized. all he wanted was for jon to nom on some statements and get soul-tattooed by nightmare-fuel until he was good and traumatized enough to read like… a couple dozen words that would end the world.

But jon doesn’t know that! So he’s a researcher at this academic institution, and he receives a promotion out of nowhere into a completely different department. Obviously, he thinks, elias knows what he’s doing - he wouldn’t be in charge if he didn’t.

So now jon’s trying to reverse engineer the logic, because there must be logic and he’s not going to question the head of the institute. Like, you look at me and tell me you think S1 jonathan sims, wearing his armor of Prickly Academic, is going to admit that he has no idea what he’s doing to the person who has just promoted him. Definitely not.

So why, jonathan sims asks himself, would elias bouchard promote someone from the research department into this position? Obviously he feels that, along with reorganizing the archive, it’s necessary to go back and research all the statements down there!

And then jon poked that theory a bit by asking for tim and sasha to be transferred with him, and elias gave him the green light! So now you’ve got three researchers, and elias throws in one librarian assistant (who has a lot of experience, but not the background needed to guide the whole team), and so jon assumes that the job of the archive is proportionate: 3/4 research, 1/4 cataloguing, with the department guided by the researchers.

I’m gonna go ahead and assume that the only concrete direction jon was given was to “create audio recordings of the statements.” And thus, we have an archive that spends most of its time on research, creates borderline-impossible-to-reference audio recordings, and then catalogues almost as an afterthought.

So I like to think jon didn't have hair long enough to need to tie it up untill the part of season three after everything with sasha and he was back at the institute. He by instinct wanted to go to sasha to help him with how to sort his hair as he somehow knew she'd know but then relized what happened and just broke.

Like on the floor sobbing broke. Tim came in and saw. Jon explained just enough for him to silently start to help him. Tim knew as he had helped sasha with her hair. this is one of the rare times Tim and Jon had any form of agreement or togetherness

Headcannon:

Jon wakes up from his coma to find his hair in braids.

See, the thing with comatose patients is that the hospital staff do take care of the hair to a certain extent. They may cut it. They may leave it alone and wash it periodically. But it's never in a great state when the patient wakes up.

Martin is aware that jon is particular about his hair in a way he is not with regard to the rest of himself. It's weird and somewhat endearing. So when the hospital staff gives him, the person closest to jon at the moment, the choice between cutting it or leaving it long, he takes it upon himself to make sure Jon's hair is well maintained.

He has lots of things to do, but like clockwork, he goes every 2 weeks, he washes Jon's hair, and braids it. Up until he accepts to work for Peter. Maybe even a bit after that; i can see how taking care of someone who is unresponsive and may never wake up could be an incredibly lonely activity, especially considering Martin's history with his mom.

So when jon wakes up, he finds his hair in a much better state than he expects. The braids are a couple of weeks old, yes, but someone has definitely been taking care of his hair, and he Knows it wasn't the nurses who normally make the rounds, taking care of dozens of patient at the same time.

They never talk about it. But the next time Jon lets someone touch his hair, it's Martin who cuts it.

hc that s1 jon barely takes care of himself. hc that everyone at the archives knows because any time he leaves his office he looks utterly exhausted, but nobody does anything. hc that once martin learns about jon's lack of eating he begins giving jon crackers or cookies along with his tea, just in case he'd eat them. hc that at first jon ignores them because he knows what martin is doing but eventually does start to eat them. hc that the first day martin saw jon bring an empty plate to the staff's lounge he told jon that he's proud of him and jon simply rolls his eyes and goes back to his office. hc that jon begins always eating the small snacks martin brings him and, though he'd never admit it, he looks forward to when martin would bring everyone tea because then he'd get something to eat. hc that martin began checking up on jon as he worked. hc that one day martin walked by jon's door and saw through the window in his door him pacing back and forth with a slightly crushed paper in his hands. hc that martin knocks on his door and when he does jon's head snaps up to the window in shock before realizing it was martin and relaxing. hc that jon had barely slept at all the night before that day and had gotten particularly stressed over a statement, and in response martin brings a blanket that he keeps in his office and tells jon to take a nap on the couch in jons office. hc that jon refused but once martin left he decided to at least try, and he laid down on the couch with martins blanket and fell asleep before he realized. hc that when martin comes around that day to bring jon his afternoon tea jon is still asleep so he shakes him awake and tells him that he's brought his tea and snacks and the still very tired jon smiled at him in a way that martin hadn't seen before. hc that, even when they are together, jon still denies that he ever did such a thing, but martin knew and he remembered. hc that it became a quiet habit that martin had gained, checking in on jon everyday, something that none of the other coworkers were aware of. hc that jon didn't like the way martin would take care of him constantly at first but he grew to enjoy it more than he'd admit. hc that one day jon came to work sick and martin had spent all morning convincing him to go home until jon caved in and left. hc that during martins lunch break that day he had visited jon at his house to make sure he was okay and not working while he was sick. hc that jon was reading through statements when martin had come in so martin snatched the papers he was holding and insisted that he rest, which jon denied but quickly changed his mind and listened once he felt his headache grow worse. hc that martin had made jon tea at his house and gave him the usual snacks he'd give jon at the archives along with soup he had found and heated up. hc that jon never forgot that day or any other days that martin had helped him, and felt strange about it in a way he couldn't pinpoint at the time. hc that in the future martin teased him for not realizing he was in love despite how obvious it was. hc that when martin was living in the archives, he would help martin just like martin had for jon. hc that one day he had brought him the blanket that martin had gifted him many months ago, to which martin responded by hugging him close, much to jon's shock. he didn't mind that much though.
