A Valentine-ish Spotify playlist, for you or for whoever you have ambiguous feelings for.

And a scent recommendation - today’s combo: Tom Ford’s Rose Prick (what a name) and Universal Flowering’s Death of a Ladies’ Man (apologies, this was a limited edition run so it may remain very exclusively mine) - named for a song with some of my favourite lyrics ever.

I’m dubbing this scent combo “apology bouquet”, but truthfully it’s a very green floral mix, with a hit of spice and powdery iris. I keep huffing my wrist and now I think I might be in love with myself. Apt!

I’ll leave you with an idealised image of how I’m spending Valentine’s Day.

dabi is obsessed with your cherry perfume 🍒

Final Fantasy inspired scent recommendations #2 for Clive Rosfield

This is a new addition to Tom Ford's signature collection. I love this because in my perception it opens with a consuming smokiness before mellowing to a fragrance more sweet and subdued. I think this suits Clive perfectly.

I'm annoyed that most perfumes which present themselves as pure rose perfumes rarely have a forward-facing rose note or always overwhelm it with something stronger (citrus, lychee, patchouli). There's obviously that anxiety about rose being the 'old lady' scent, which I think makes a lot of fragrance houses reluctant to let the rose note shine. But one of the reasons I love rose (I don't like cloying sweet scents, I love roses in general) is that there are so many complexities to fresh roses you'll never smell the same one again. There are so many varieties which all evoke new facets of the same well-worn lovely scent.

I also really don't like citrus (it reminds me of cleaning products) so something like Jo Malone's Red Roses is out, but it also doesn't have very good sillage and it's very expensive. It's just interesting to me that something I view as almost universally good - beautiful in its own right, smells good, tasty to boot (my favourite flavour is almost always something rosy - tea, chocolates with fondant filling, cakes) - is actually pretty hard to find a true note of in fragrances.

And no, that's not why I like Ruby.
