Why Percy Jackson is a transfem character and always has been
So!!Obligatory 'i'm a trans man,not a trans woman' disclaimer but this analysis is based purely off 1.Percy's canon personality, relathionships and story and 2.Irl transfeminine experiences that i know a lot about thanks to having a lot of transfem friends.Said friends have also listened to my reasoning behind tgirl Percy and agreed with me if not having the hc for her already and every other transfem Pjo fan i've seen i don't personally know also say her narrative is trans woman's one too and they always understand Percy's characterization better than anyone else in the fandom(certainly better than 'himbo/malewife/babygirl-coded/slutty bisexual Percy' believers)and as a Percy kinnie it's been the take that's felt most correct to me ever since i first read Pjo,10 years ago much,MUCH before i even realized i'm queer. So with that, let's dive into why Percy is a girl quasi-canonically,including that Rick Riordan has refered to her as straight but never cis!
Trigger warnings:Misogyny, child abuse, ableism,Luke's canon pedophillia and grooming with an alluding to how it applies to Percy being female(that is not dived into!),a slang word for pedophile that's used as an insult to P*rcicos potrayal of her and internalized transmisogyny
Percy's personality
Now,as i've said before,Percy's not all that actually gendered as male-Meaning,none of her attitude or behavior or interests are masculine and are misenterpreted as such due to misogyny and gender essentialism.Percy has poor social skills, anger issues, merciless tendencies,a strong sense of justice,self-worth problems,a very odd sense of humor that always lands and respects women to the point of thinking they're better than men and none of these are gendered traits but a mix of audhd-dyslexia and trauma. The last one is arguably actually a girl thing even if there's an in-universe reason for it(good mom, deadbeat birth dad, abusive stepdad, most antagonists being older men in power and the first older person she thought she could trust was just manipulating her)
Percy also frequently complains about having to act like a stereotypical guy to have to fit into society's standards because naturally, she's just not-She's completely unconvential even amongst 'other male' demigods and this is reguarly commented on.In fact, there's a whole plot in Titan's Curse of her proving to the Hunters that she's NOT a normal 'man' and it's a huge thing that's reinforced as true the whole franchise!Zoe was right about cis men being ass and that's not 'r*dical feminism' and ngl a lot of y'all are telling on yourselves because she never talked about biology in her misandry, especially because Zoe appears to be around the same age as Thalia physically and mentally so it's super icky to throw t*rf accusations at her because she's traumatized by ancient greek men,one of the worst kinds of men ever! And Percy's totally unlike them despite being amab and identifying male not because 'not all men' but because she's actually a woman
This is a direct contrast to how she talks about and interacts with other girls-Almost every female character earns her worship on first meeting, even if she dosen't like them as people. She puts a heavy emphasis on them being girls in her narration and some dialogue too and her descriptions of them are so admirative they come as envious with her own insecurities in her looks.Percy is severely lacking in any kind of masculinity and Piper even pointed this out based on her vibes alone after hearing all about her at camp and thinking she'd be a macho man based off how people talk about her and i'm unsure if this is a common phenomenom but i frequently see and hear people say daughters tend to look like girl versions of their dad's and Percy is said to be identical to Poseidon but with softer features and the idea Percy should tie herself to masculinity due to it being expected of amabs is contradictory to canon's messages in addition to it's irl sexist implications and the sea is frequently associated with femininity(mermaids and sirens, calling ships 'she',pearl jewelry, the term 'Beach Bunny',the moon controlling the tides, etc)
And small final note:The rock music scene is filled with transfemmes and has been for a long time and while blue things are usually associated with boys,it was Percy's mom who got her to love them
Percy's relathionships
Almost all of Percy's friends growing up were girls-Annabeth,Silena,Thalia,Bianca,Zoe,Clarisse and Rachel vs just Grover,Beckendorf and Nico. She thinks The Stolls are annoying as shit with their 'boys will be boys' beat and she hates male gods on sight and implies she finds them being super conventionally attractive to be offputting instead of appealing.Nico had a crush on her until they got closer and realized she's not an ideal man like he thought she was and therefore 'cute but not his type'(I have no opinion on Solangelo but i got beef with the shippers for making this about blonde hair and blue eyes instead of transfem Percy, especially the trope of Percy acting like a kiddy fiddler over what Nico said as a joke)and she takes responsibility of him post Bianca's death and Nico exclusively wishes for older sister figures, never old brother ones
Percy and Rachel is a classic irl dynamic between transfems and their afab friends:Dating to exes to even closer friends.Rachel is a pretty typical lesbian if we're applying irl wlw things too and Annabeth is clearly a huge lesbian-Like seriously, she only ever showed attraction to Luke and Percy and Luke was comphet in her words('You were like a brother to me but i never loved you')and lesbians experiencing attraction to uncracked eggs is semi-common and she's got tons of subtext with Piper and Reyna and shows a strong distaste for the expectations of cisheterosexual womanhood, mainly femininity.Reyna is yet another comphet lesbian-coded who was into Percy.Clarisse, textually butch, calls her 'Prissy' and Piper, canon unlabeled sapphic and gnc, described her as not masc enough for her taste
Percy's relathionships to older male characters combined with her transfemininity, youth and constantly being described as 'other' from ordinary half-bloods by them function with no need for change as a potrayal to how corrupted men in power treat girls-Not women, underaged girls as Percy is 12 at the start and 18 now and we've yet to get interactions with her and male gods in the current canon timeline so all their abuse of her and innapropriate undertones in their behavior towards her were when she was underaged. This includes but is not limited to:Ares' condesension and (non-sexual) assaults,Apollo's very possible constant flirting that would definitely be textual if Percy was intended as a girl by Rick seeing as Apollo had no problem hitting on the Hunters and Reyna and her entire relathionship with Luke.Luke is canonically a serial pedophile, implied to sleep with Kelli and a raging misogynist and Percy was one of the first victim's of his gaslighting and he tried to kill her after framing her his crime against the gods in an isolated area they'd been alone in together a lot and widely noted to have accidentally been writen flirting with her throught the series by the fandom so i can't help but take Luke.rcy as a male explotation and grooming narrative
Artemis,an archaic symbol of lesbians, loves Percy and considers her above any man.Aphrodite gave Percy advice on her looks by saying everyone deserves to feel perfect in their skin to achive true perfect beauty.Persephone, one of the og csa narratives, said she likes Percy because she's 'brave' with the implication being that again, she can tell Percy is different from usual 'male' half-bloods.Hera is the goddess of traditional marriage and holds a violent resentment towards Percy for disrupting the system.Percy at her core is meant to come across as like a male god but not actually being one and actively not wanting to become one out of hate for authority and traditionality
And another small final note to a section:Frank is trans man-coded(his arc is about being emasculated and saying 'fuck you!' by making his own manhood and Mars' blessing is explicitly compared to testosterone and gives him a huge confidence boost)and they're paralleled as fundamentally similar yet also fundamentally different,Nico and her act like an eldest daughter and a middle brother where she's a pseudo-mom to him and queer siblings and Jason falls under transmasc norms(the ex-wolfkid thing, positive and healthy masculinity, creating a new self after loosing his old idealized one and Team Dad)and instantly became Percy's best friend and is her complimentary foil and 'counterpart' so transmasc4transfem realness
Percy's story(and how it all comes together and would've been improved by canonizing her as a trans woman)
Percy Jackson means 'Outcast who looks out for other outcasts'.She's so unique as a character because she was and is still genuinely a huge weirdo, not just nonhuman, she is human even if it's only half-That's only half of who she is(She's totally a Gwen Stacy variant btw).Being a trans girl would do nothing but enchance her core aspects but also work as a fixit to various canon writing problems!
Percy is femme so that'd give us positive girly girl rep to make up for all the pick me feminism.Annabeth'd have no reason to lash out and give her mixed signals since she's not a boy so their dynamic is improved.Nico's crush fades upon finding out she's a girl so they become best friends and found siblings like they were always meant and wanted to.It causes shifts in the plot that bring a bigger focus on the girlhood aspects of Greek Mythology seperate from romance retellings and a much needed change too:Percy as the hero of the Great Prophecy.Luke was a raging misogynist,a racist,a child groomer,a fucking pedophile and an entire fascist who lied about revolution to ruin society instead of fixing the system.Percy is a lifelong punk,an anarchist and a proffessional instigator and was trying to stop Luke's fuckery from 12 to 16-She's the greatest greco-roman hero ever.TGP was operating on Ancient Greek logic but Pjo isn't Ancient Greece,it's Percy's story-How she forced the gods to change with no choice by SHOWING how much stronger and more etheral she is than them
BUT WAIT,THERE'S ONE MORE FINAL NOTE!!!!!Percy would be a million times happier as a trans femme than as a cis man.She gets to transition and not have to be an ordinary male she's NOT so she starts loving and accepting herself way more as she changes into who she wants and deserves to be and we should all want that for her too.The truth is she's nothing like Hercules, she's unimpressive as a man,Nico believed she was a real male hero but she failed at being a performance of it based off what he knew of men and now they're cool and he thinks Percy's cute but not like that, she thinks aggressively male men are wicked and not all that handsome,Rachel made her feel normal because she's not a normal girl (either),Annabeth has princess hair and had a makeover at a magic spa and she strikes fear into hearts in a way only girls and she wants all that too,she also wanted to be treated like Thalia so bad,Jason is the Superman she's been waiting for her whole life
She's the mom to Nico and Hazel Sally was to her, she's a rocker chick, she was on the swim team in high school and went to protests and did charity events with that frizzy neurotic girl she's attached to the hip with, she loves burgers and desserts, she's got streaked hair, she uses 2000s and 90s slang completely unironically and she just wants people to think she's normal but still get to be herself. The sea does not like to be restrained

Total drama arrived in 2007 correct??? Do you know that during that time, Percy Jackson book 3 was out, AND twilight book 3. and the first vampire academy book. There was also diary of a wimpy kid……
Basically what I’m saying….imagine if the gen 1 was reading that during the show? Do you think Noah was reading Percy Jackson or like twilight??? (Probably not but it would be funny to see him react to it) Do you think Gwen having to deal with people think she was a twilight fan or something?? Listen, listen I need more au and stuff were the gen 1 do early 2000s media.

Let’s talk about backlash and response in the Red, White & Royal Blue literary and cinematic universe.
The book:
Casey changed two things in the book when there was backlash, and honestly the fact that they were so quick to respond to these and not anything else is kinda super upsetting.
The first was the Harry Potter books that Alex (and Henry too?) read, and like obviously JKR is a fucking bad person, but… The books exist! Millions of people read the books! Mentioning them by name isn’t gonna make you a bad person, having fictional people read these books doesn’t make them bad, it means they read books that existed. Trust me, I’m in the hating JKR trenches with everyone, she’s an antisemitic TERF, but of all the things in the world to be mad at, fictional characters reading a book isn’t it. Like, I have Harry Potter books on my shelf, am I supposed to burn them all and go back through my old instagram from middle school to delete all references to Hogwarts houses? No. Because multiple things can be true at once: JKR is a terrible person, and Harry Potter books at one point were highly read and enjoyed. Like, mentioning or not mentioning a book from over 20 years ago won’t impact JKR, if you want to stand up against her, stand up against her new video game and TV show— things that will directly put money in her pocket, stand up against Cursed Child if you want, donate to valued organizations that promote the things she hates. Anyway, It was changed to the Percy Jackson series instead, which is fine, but I think changing the books was an interesting choice. Like, obviously Casey doesn’t agree with the transphobic and disgusting views of JKR, neither do the characters. (CMQ probably does agree with some of the antisemitism, but that’s another story). Regardless of my own views on this change, people were upset by it and it was changed. Casey listened and made the fix. Editing to add: I’m totally cool with the change! Like I complete understand why it was done and if I were Casey I would have done the same thing. I, very badly, wanted to show how you can separate the author from the art, but I think there are some things that maybe can be judged by the author. I hope anyone I offended by misspeaking sees this and understands that I didn’t mean to reduce your pain. You are valid and correct in wanting the book removed from the book, especially when it was an easy fix. My point was solely that Casey listened and changed things, I shouldn’t have said anything else that undermined that or caused hurt, even indirectly. Again, sorry if my misspeaking hurt you, it was never my intention
The second time the book was edited, was after some people got weird about a reference to a UN ambassador: (copied from a Slate article because this isn’t in my copy) in which a supporting character who is the president of the United States complains, “Well, my UN ambassador fucked up his one job and said something idiotic about Israel, and now I have to call Netanyahu and personally apologize.”.
This is literally so nothing it’s insane. People claimed it justified the Israel/Palestine conflict and said that America would always back Israel, which like, I’m not going to explain the conflict because it’s bigger, older, and more complex than Tumblr, but no. No. No. No. Just no. This has nothing to do with that, Israel and America are Allies, and it’s no different than someone saying something about Canada. Also, nobody likes Netanyahu except Netanyahu, so this line is actually more of a funny satirical line about how the president has to go talk to this guy who’s an ally but super annoying. This is not an invite to send me anything about the I/P conflict, because I promise I know way more on this topic than you think and I’m not getting into it. Regardless, people said stuff, Casey listened, it was changed.
The movie:
After backlash about the actors ages, Casey posted a very attitude filled and almost-guilt trippy post saying that it’s rude and wrong to say that people who are 28 or 30 are old, because that’s calling Casey old, that’s saying that people who are older can’t discover their sexualities.
None of that was what people were saying, but they wanted to save themself, so they responded.
Backlash about the actors sexualities- Casey responded.
Preemptive response to people talking about Nick’s hair color- There was a response from multiple people
Response to people talking about Taylor being Mexican-American. This one was more of a “Hey! We did it!” Positive response by multiple people from the production, mainly the director who said that they purposely sought out the correct actor for Alex so people wouldn’t say anything bad and would be happy about it.
I’m sure there’s more, but I haven’t been in the know for a longggggg time.
All that to say, there’s been a ton of backlash about how Nora’s ethnicity was erased and how antisemitic their casting decision was, and the only thing they’ve done is block and remain silent. Not to forget that the production and CMQ know about the antisemitism within the RWRB fandom and they don’t give a shit.
Funny how things can be addressed when it’s literally about anything besides their Jew-erasure.

Hi!! Is me, Stray! After many a trial and error, I now have an RP blog! Just letting you know I'm here and, uh, favorite music genres & favorite song headcanons for Hank?
Welcome to the roleplaying community! There's always a few ups and downs when you're first getting set up, especially if you've only ever set up the one Tumblr for personal use, but there's always room to learn, and I find that people tend to be generally pretty accommodating if you're as polite as you've been on Anon! If you have any questions about roleplay etiquette or the like, feel free to send another ask or just IM me.
Tumblr media
As for favourite music genres and song headcanons for Hank, I generally think he's a pretty open minded fellow? There are a good few bands and types of music we know for certain that he enjoys.
Tumblr media
Jocko Homo, by Devo.
Tumblr media
Dead Man's Party, by Oingo Boingo.
Tumblr media
Chopin's Nocturne.
Tumblr media
60s rock! I can see him being a Creedence Clearwater Revival kinda guy.
Tumblr media
Acis and Galatea!
Tumblr media
The Rolling Stones!
Something you'll often see assumed of Hank is that just because he's a man of the arts, well read, and eloquent, is that he's some kind of music snob, that he only listens to opera, that he only enjoys classical, that he looks down on 'lesser' forms of music. And I honestly just don't believe that would be the case?
Like . . . here's the thing. Hank may talk fancy, but he is still, at best, a middle class farm boy from Illinois. If he has an accent, it's probably closest to a Chicago accent, if he hasn't trained his voice to do something entirely different - he does mention his voice has changed during his feline mutation to a baritone, so it's not out of the question. But he is not (or at least, he should not be) a hoity toity snooty asshole.
This is something even writers often get wrong about him - they assume that he's the smart character, ergo he must be the snooty, elitist character, which is something Ben Percy leans into, but it's not even just him, it's Paul Di Filippo in X-Men Unlimited vol. 2 #8, too. It becomes an asshole trait, and it's just. Not. Accurate.
Tumblr media
Hank likes all kinds of music. In fact, I struggle to think of a kind he's outright stated he hates, though he's been around for 60 years, I'm sure someone can correct me. He's a curious fellow! He likes to explore! He'll consume any media, he quotes 1940s Superman comics, he watches Robin Hood movies with Wonder Man, why in god's name would he be a snob?
As for headcanon? I have tons! I often think, hmm, this feels like a song Hank would like, or a song that feels like a Hank song, when I listen to music, because. You know. Big blue guy's p much always on the brain.
I have a Spotify playlist that I occasionally add to, but currently on there is:
Is She Really Going Out With Him? by Joe Jackson - self deprecating, but also kind of a banger.
Carry on by fun - fun is an amazing band, and I definitely feel the lyricism and scale of their music would appeal to Hank.
Rain on Me by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande - I don't know if Hank would listen to this, but it has his vibe.
Cells by They Might Be Giants - I'm sorry, but have you fucking heard a band that more encapsulates Hank's personality?
Dr. Wanna Do by Caro Emerald - my old Abigail RP partner used to use this as her ringtone for Hank. I think Hank likes some jazz.
Cure for Me by Aurora - again, not one I think Hank would listen to, but again, it feels like Hank to me.
Very Good Advice by Robert Smith - Hank totally digs new wave and the Cure, and literary references mixed in with that vibe? Totally.
Moonshine by Caravan Palace - this song leads into Lone Digger by the same band, which I put on Dark Beast's playlist, representing the continuity between them. It has the right energy.
There Ain't Half Been Some Clever Bastards by Ian Dury and the Blockheads - songs Hank would sing in the middle of the fight if it weren't full of swearing and comics were allowed to do that.
I Want You to Want Me by Cheap Trick - he does.
On Melancholy Hill by Gorillaz - this just has exactly the right energy.
I Will Dare by The Replacements - "How smart are you? / How dumb am I? / Don't count any of my advice. / Oh, meet me any place or anywhere or anytime / Now I don't care, meet me tonight / If you will dare, I might dare."
Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift - another one that doesn't feel quite like something Hank would listen to, but I think we can all relate to this song a little bit (does that make me a basic bitch? Maybe), and some of the lyrics are so awfully Hank. "I'll stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror," like, fuck.
Turning Japanese by The Vapors - Iunno, I just think he'd like it. I often think that if I were gonna make an OG X-Factor movie, this is what would start the movie during a fight scene.
I would also like to give @brw a shoutout for their excellent Hank playlist, which introduced me to, among other things, Touch-Tone Telephone, which feels like Hank's theme song.
Oh, also, The Plastic Age by The Buggles. Hank absolutely loves prog-rock, you know he does. Oh, and showtunes! The man just will not stop singing, in the middle of fights or while being filmed for the nightly news, so he totally vibes with some Broadway. I'd also be lying if I said that Dust and Ashes doesn't feel like a New X-Men Grant Morrison Beast vibe all over. And Hank would love it! A musical based on War and Peace? Sign him the fuck up!

20 questions for fic writers
tagged several weeks ago by @doodledrawreblogs - thanks cy! and sorry this is late lol
1. how many works do you have on Ao3? counting drabbles, 77 works!
2. what's your total Ao3 word count? 127,611 (yes, most of the works are oneshots)
3. what fandoms do you write for? I have AO3 stuff for Stargate SG-1, NCIS, Top Gun, and RPF!
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?
I thought this would just be all the multichaps I've written (or started) but I guess there's something to be said for older stuff because it's actually all Stargate! I suspect penny!fic will eventually appear on here if I ever get off my butt and finish it
In All Duty and Service (T, Stargate, S/J, 13k)
4am (G, Stargate, S/J, 2.4k)
for here I am sitting in my tin can (strike him down) (G, icemav, 7k) - 964 kudos
and ease my mind (G, icemav, 533) - 947 kudos
so put me where I belong (G, mavdad, 3k) - 853 kudos
5. do you respond to comments? Originally, I responded to every comment. Then I started getting the inevitable daily/weekly "please update" or "update" or "are you going to finish this??" comments and now I don't respond to every comment. If your comment says something nice, though, I'll do my best to respond to it eventually!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Uhh...nothing yet, I think? I'm really way worse about saccharine-sweet, syrupy, TERRIBLY FLUFFY endings.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I wrote a 200-word ficlet that is literally only the happy ending! Just Like in the Movies
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not yet, but all my more ~controversial~ stuff is safely in my GDrive still, so....*shrugs* all my current AO3 stuff is pretty bland.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Nope. Every year I threaten to do it and then I just get all embarrassed about it and never share anything.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Not yet, but if I had a good idea for one I'd absolutely write it!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Stealing Cy's answer for this because it's so true lol. I don't...think so?
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Not that I know of! (If you would like to translate anything of mine, please go for it! There's not much to work with right now though lol)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Nothing that's on AO3, only super-secret stuff that may never see the light of day!
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? is this question asking for an OTP? Because I have two: Sam/Jack, SG1 and Janeway/Chakotay, Voyager.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Gah, all of them. Uhhh, there's a marriage-of-convenience SJ AU where Sam and Jack have to be married to be on the same SG team that @carothepoet and I brainstormed years ago, and I doubt we'll ever finish?
16. What are your writing strengths? Silly dialogue, short fics! That's...um...it.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? WRITING VOLUME. It's not that I can't do it, it's that I don't ever prioritize my writing enough to find the time. In terms of actually putting words on the page...description is hard. Plot is hard.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Honestly, I'm just insane and "what the hell, it's a hobby not a job" enough to Google Translate something if I really need to have some dialogue in another language. Obviously I'd put a disclaimer that I have no idea if it's correct. I like making fun of the "everyone speaks English" TV trope though, so I'm far more likely to just have the aliens randomly speak English XD
19. First fandom you wrote for? The first thing I published was for Stargate. The first stuff I wrote before I knew what fanfiction was? God, probably...actually I have no clue? percy jackson? chronicles of narnia? who knows.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? I am choosing to be an optimist today: I don't think it's been written yet!! I do, however, have a special fondness for Chapter 3 of Letters to Archie for, yes, its pettiness and fluffiness, and also for in for a penny, in for a pound because it's fun!
I haven't been on here in ages so I have no idea who to tag. I'm just gonna tag a bunch of people and hope some of them are actually active. Uh, no pressure tagging @malewifebillcage @tommyjop @curator-on-ao3 @mylittleredgirl @mrv3000 @delicatelie89 @ladywaffles @sluttyhenley @redbelles?

In honor of the Percy Jackson tv series, I will finally post these headcanons (I’ve had this in my drafts for idk how long.) Gabriel Knight characters as Demigods and their respective parents:
Gabriel - son of Apollo, pretty self explanatory. He’s the schattenjäger, he represents the light and fights the darkness. Apollo is basically a jack of all trades, he’s the god of the Sun and light, music, medicine (I believe, correct me if I’m wrong), poetry, etc. Gabe always struck me as a jack of all trades (idk why, vibes I guess)
Grace - daughter of Athena, also pretty self explanatory. Athena is the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy, the perfect balance of brain and brawn imo. Level headed and a good balance for Gabes “jack of all trades”.
Mosley - I honestly can’t think of one for him, maybe he’s just a regular human as well. Let me know if you guys can think of a good godly parent!
Malia - daughter of Aphrodite, cursed by the goddess of magic, Hecate. Gabe states himself that Malia is “the most beautiful woman he’s ever met”, if that doesn’t scream daughter of Aphrodite idk what does. I need to think of a reason why Hecate cursed her. (Haven’t thought too much about these headcanons)
Friedrich- son of Selene. If Gabes father is the god of the Sun, it only makes sense that the werewolves mother is the goddess of the moon. I was honestly torn between Selene and Artemis, mainly for the fact that Artemis is the goddess of the Hunt (and he’s a hunter) and it would be ironic if his mother was Gabes fathers sister (that sentence totally made sense). I went with Selene for the Sun/Moon motif of it all.

I'm really good at responding right after I publish a fic. It's afterwards that I sometimes forget to respond, or simply don't have enough time to respond. I always appreciate every comment I get though!
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Angstiest ending huh? A bunch of my fics are angsty but the one that I think ends in the most angst would have to be dance with the devil, drink with the demons, without it being outright whump lol.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Happy? Happy. Um....I'm gonna say party like it's your heroes' birthday just because there's a party and it's sweet and yeah lmao. It also has the wholesome family/friend vibes that keep me from forever being confused about the correct fluff to angst ratio.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I've been extremely lucky and have been able to avoid it for the most part. That's not to say I've gotten no hate ever, but it was minimal enough that I pretend it doesn't exist. Fervently hoping it stays that way!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No. Maybe. No. The idea has crossed my mind but I haven't been able to write it as of yet. Maybe I never will. Who's to say really?
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Kind of? I did it exactly once. But not in the traditional way, it was more of a, "take the world-building idea of percy jackson and put it into a fairy tail quest" so I'm not sure if it actually counts.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so. Or at least I hope I haven't!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I was asked once, many moons ago, but then they never got back to me, so I assume they dropped the idea.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No? Unless we're counting those fic fights/telephone things where one person starts and another takes over. There was also this one time, I was writing a fic with a few others but we never managed to finish, so I don't really count that one.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
All time? And I'm only supposed to pick one?? Next time, give me a tough question, will ya? Wow uh, I don't know if it's my favourite ship, perse, but it is the ship I've shipped the longest + one I've actually written for, so I'm gonna go with lovesquare. *shrugs* probably typical of me, but it was the only ship to get inside my head so badly that I've written over a dozen fics for them, instead of more gen stuff, which is my usual go-to otherwise.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Well, if we look at my gigantic list of unpublished fics, there's probably plenty of WIPs to choose from there. As for published, well I don't want to say I never will but yeah Forsake the Divine (If You Can) seems to be a pretty solid choice, if only because there are only 1 chapter and a half left to go and it's all outlined too, but I've kind of fallen out of the fandom (it's very dead) so idk if I'll ever manage to put it together.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Characterization is definitely a strong suit. And judging purely from my comment section, I feel okay assuming that I'm pretty good at making the emotional beats land too.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Description definitely. It's been pointed out to me more than once that I'm so focused inside the characters' heads that I forget to interact more with the world around them. Nature wants to be incorporated and I'm working on that.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I hate it. It feels so strange to me to have a few words in a different language and then abruptly switch back to English. The only thing that I feel I have to do in another language though, is honorifics. Whether it be -san, -kun, or Madame, I think I get super extra about it. I once delved into such a rabbit hole trying to figure out what honorific even a side character uses, just for a throwaway dialogue!
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Ooh, officially? Fairy Tail. Unofficially, hidden in the depths of my laptop? Yeah, it was Percy Jackson. My childhood favourite that still haunts my thoughts to this day.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
Ironically? This is the second time I've been asked that today and the choice is still just as difficult. Or maybe it's that my actual favourites are still unfinished and hence unpublished. For now, I'm going to say Enduring, it's the fic that was most different genre-wise from what I usually write, and I'm very proud of how it turned out. If I ever manage to finish it though, my favourite will probably be a life unlived or maybe I'm just doomed to never have a favourite, because there will always be something new I'm looking forward to reading (meaning I have to write it to be able to see it). Tagging (no pressure!) @shortmexicangirl @rosiesared @ck2k18 @heartfulselkie @coffeebanana @mdelpin @kiliinstinct @lady-charinette

Speaking of fictional character servants, I want to hear your thoughts on this, because I wanna know if my understanding of how the lore would work here is correct. There is a plot element in certain fantasy stories that I feel would have...interesting...interactions with the way magic works in fate.
Namely: the idea of the "hidden world".
To my understanding of how Mystery works, and correct me if i'm wrong: Mystery is lost from the world over time, *not* because "the magic goes away" is an intrinsic rule of the universe but as an effect caused by humanity learning more about the world. Mystery is the gap between the real and the plausible, and the further science advances, the more things from the "plausible" are sorted into the "possible" (science, therefore not magecraft) and the "impossible" (magic, therefore not magecraft). In other words, the more firmly plausible a myth, or more accurately, the harder it is to prove the myth isn't real, the more Mystery it has.
But a lot of modern fantasy stories contain some plot device that explains why these events totally happened despite the "normal world" having no knowledge of them, the most obvious one being the Mist from the Percy Jackson series. To a mortal, there is no experimentally provable difference between a world where PJO is fiction and nonfiction, because the Mist provides mundane explanations for any supernatural phenomena (therefore explaining why their existence is possible) without making them any less supernatural (therefore ensuring they are a basis for Mystery). You cannot prove the events of the myth happened, or didn't happen. This means that PJO, and any other story that uses a similar plot device, has created a story that lies between possible and impossible, within the realm of the plausible. Which begs the question:
"If you summoned Percy Jackson or a similar modern hero as a Servant, would they be weak or strong?"
Or, more specifically, to what extent does the existence of the hidden world trope within a story mitigate the recency of that story in terms of determining how strong a Mystery it would have?
Okay first off, please don't put an entire essay into my inbox. Just the question is okay.
Secondly, Mahoyo and Fate/Hollow Ataraxia both have a direct answer to this. Hide something well enough from human knowledge, and it will be like bringing power from the age of gods into the modern world. In Mahoyo, it's Touko with Beowulf, and in FHA it's Bazett with the real Fragarach

Guys i'm gonna be totally real,i do not give a FUCK if anybody thinks a teenage character having severe trauma 'isn't an excuse' for being an asshole or at least not making the best decisions. Not gonna give out details for my own trauma but there's a reason Percy Jackson is the character i've always related to the most and i'm an irl eldest sibling who's younger ones have also been through some shit so i'm of the correct opinion that teenagers who've have to deal with shitty adults should be allowed to do whatever they want forever

Hello! :)
It took me years made this blog despite lurking on Tumblr for a very, very long time. I don’t like posting or social media, and sometimes forget to reblog things (and I never like them lol). Honestly, this blog is was mostly made as a way to get past the annoying login wall. (Name is a reference to a nickname I gave myself as an anon for a Samders Sides ‘role swap’ ask blog. They have no clue how much of an impact that ask blog had on me, I’m sure.)
I like the game In Stars and Time by InsertDisk5 (my correct hyperfixation), Hollow Knoght by Team Cherry, Omori by Omocat, Undertale and Deltarune by Toby Fox, Sanders Sides by Thomas Sanders, H.I.V.E. by Mark Walden, Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan, Pokemon, and probably other things I’m forgetting to mention! Be careful for spoilers! I am very inconsistent with tagging things.
Speaking of inconsistent tagging. I try to tag by fandom, ‘Art’ if it’s some from of creative media, and then ramble sometimes. I am also trying to be consistent with the tag ‘best of all time’ to some of my favs but I will totally forget. (I also used to use ‘Good post OP’ which I don’t like as much since I’m not always referring to the Original Poster…urg tagging is tough)
That’s all! Have fun scrolling! 🐶

since everything else looks to be pretty promising as of right now, i really really hope they don’t mess up the music design of the percy jackson d+ series! it’s a weird sentiment, since that’s probably the least of everyone’s concerns, but also maybe i’m just way too attached to the lightning thief musical to only associate pjo with rock music. i cannot imagine the tlt fight between ares and percy without electric guitar, and in my mind im envisioning percy’s solo fight on manhattan bridge in tlo as the immigrant song scene in thor ragnarok.
i really do think the ost will determine what genre the series is going for! best case scenario they follow rob rokicki’s vision (who, by the way, literally has ‘rock’ in his name) and use a variety of genres to capture all the angst, light-hearted comedy and pure emotional whiplash that the story has to offer. i really don’t want it to be just a bunch of hype pop songs or generic orchestral tracks because i don’t think it quite services pjo’s tone and style; it’s always been a story about scrappy kids trying to survive in a grim world that (sometimes) wants them dead, but with just enough moments of hope and fun to make it a children’s series.
also the sheer number of locations that percy and co travel through! there’s so much material to play with!! irock and teenage edge with a hint of campy fun for camp halfblood, grand and strings-y for when the gods show up. electro-swing at the lotus hotel to signify its timelessness. little panpipe motif for when pan is nearby. a little kalimba for calypso’s island. (thinking about these little things make me so happy, i don’t even know why.)
they seem to be sticking pretty close to canon in terms of setting (the cabins are in the correct layout!) so im interested in knowing how they might go around the elements that aren’t available from the source material. sure, this would probably up the already high production value but it’s disney collaborating with one of the most well-known young adult franchises.
(i do wanna know whether the show’s going to acknowledge the other adaptations that came before it though. we all know rick hates the movies so that’s probably a no, although it’s a still a possibility that produciton could sneak an easter egg or two referencing the movie. i'm more interested in whether the musical’s going to be part of the show somewhat, what with the mysterious tweet from the tlt musical twitter account a while back about a possible remake. if it were up to me i’d totally make ‘bring on the monsters’ the theme song for season 1, and sneak in ‘good kid’ as the ending for one of the angstier episodes, like what they do in the umbrella academy.)

Okay pulling from that last Riordan post I feel like the entire nature of Norse mythology in the Riordanverse could be so freaking cool????
And it's all based on Ragnarök.
You see, in the original mythos, there's a lot of importance placed on it. Specifically, the Aesir know it's coming, and do the classic bring-about-your-destiny-in-order-to-prevent-it thing.
But here's the thing: They do that by being dicks, and Loki is pretty wrapped up in it.
(obligatory the actual knowledge we have of these myths is fragmentary and there is no one correct interpretation because we do not know what the original one was and the general opinion at the time would have fluctuated anyway because thats how mythology works)
See, the Aesir get this prophecy, and in it Loki and his children are some pretty major players in the apocalypse and their own deaths. As in, two of his kids kill Thor and Odin. So in order to prevent this, they take Loki's children and imprison them for something they haven't actually done yet.
Additionally, the Aesir keep Loki himself around because he's really good at solving problems for them. Sure, most of those are caused by him, but he's still 'willing' to fix them all once threatened with Mjolnir to the face. (My favorite example of this is the birth of Sleipnir) (And I'm not saying Loki is an innocent little baby who's just getting pushed around by the Aesir he totally desires Chaos and Suffering but hes more of a trickster than a fully malicious figure—okay ill shut up now)
Anyway, the point is that the Aesir cause their own demise by being dicks.
Now, Ragnarök itself is really important in terms of what it's actually for. The impression we get from its descriptions is that it's supposed to do away with the gods and the world they've built for themselves and usher in a new, better world with newer gods and people who will hopefully do better this time. It's also established as the time when all bonds will break.
So. Not the worst apocalypse.
And it's exactly that cyclical nature that I think the Riordanverse could capitalize big-time.
Because the Percy Jackson books were all about breaking the cycle of abuse, right? Saying that just because the gods hurt us, doesn't give us the duty to tear them down against all reason? Saying that yes, the gods are flawed, and we are the ones to clean up their messes?
And in all the books, there's this undercurrent idea of the gods marching to their own downfall, and their children being the ones to rescue them from it.
You know who survives Ragnarök? The children of the Aesir.
Víðarr and Váli, Odin's sons, who avenged his death. Thor's twins Móði and Magni, who bear Mjolnir after their father dies. I see a pattern here.
Ragnarök is when the mistakes of the adults—of the parents—of the people in power—catch up to them. When they have to account for their cruelties. And their children—who inherit their symbols of power—inherit the world, to do a better job than they did.
Personally, I would say that by the time of this theoretical book, Ragnarök has happened multiple times. Each time the same scenarios are presented to different players, and those new gods and jotuns either change their roles or carry them out.
aaaaaaaaaaa im running out of brain space what im saying is that the original Norse myths actually carry the spirit of Riordan's signature themes better than the version we got in Magnus Chase
additions welcome!!

have you seen the hsmtmts season 3 trailer? definitely looks interesting and i think the change of scenery is a great change for the show.
I agree anon, it really does look like changing up the location and doing a lot of outdoor scenes. S3 definitely looks better than S2 and I think it will end up being much better as well; something much closer to the charm and quality that S1 had. Of course, the question remains whether S3 will end up mattering very much in the long run and whether the quality and momentum of a much improved S3 can carry forward into S4.
As I said way back when it was confirmed that S3 would be a summer camp season with several characters being reduced to recurring and several new mains being introduced, I'm skeptical that Tim has much of a plan when it comes to making S3 feel connected to what came before and what comes after on the show. Especially with a probable 6 month time jump to the final semester of Ricky's senior year being likely for S4 and the show reverting back to East High (though this time largely filmed on soundstages in California rather than on location in Utah).
The trailer does make clear that those Rina leaks were largely correct which is deeply unfortunate and I hope that they don't happen again for S4. I had hoped that Tim would break up Portwell without having Ricky be the reason but it seems he's having Ricky pursue a girl EJ is in a relationship with yet again. I'm sure it will be among the worst parts of S3. As I've said before, a default Rina endgame is pretty much the only option for how Ricky's romantic arc ends when the series likely ends with S4.
The only other possibility is that because it’s so obvious that there are no other options and with the difficulty of Ricky graduating while Gina still has a year of school left that Tim decides to ‘subvert expectations’ and does an open or ambiguous ending. I’m no Rina shipper but even I think that would be a terrible idea that would really damage the show’s ending and legacy. I don’t think it’s at all likely but it can’t be dismissed out of hand because Tim just might be stupid enough to try and pull a stunt like that.
It’s funny how cynically Disney is using Olivia Rodrigo to promote the show when it’s likely the trailer shows like 80% of her total scenes. A bit boring to have Ricky be the male lead in the musical once more, it looks like he gets to be the lead for all 4 seasons then. Good on Sofia Wylie for becoming the new female lead of the series. With Gina the musical lead this season there’s a good chance Kourtney might get the lead in S4. Looks like Lily won’t be a very big part of the season at all. Not sure why they’re having S3 only take place within 2 weeks in universe. It seems that 8 episode seasons might be a new Disney thing; Love Victor, Secrets of Sulphur Springs, and Percy Jackson all have had recent or upcoming season orders of 8 eps only. Is it enough? Probably not with all the new and returning characters they’re packing in but there’s no way that HSMTMTS should be allowed 12 eps again.
There is positive news on the lgbtq rep front. Before it looked like Seb basically being written out of S3 would wipe out half the rep in S3 but it looks like one of the female characters will be bisexual and have a relationship develop with JoJo Siwa. It’s a huge step forward for representation on Disney and builds on the genuine progress Disney has made with their series and movies in recent months.
Although it is darkly ironic that Disney has finally gotten the balls to provide good rep just as lgbtq rights in the USA are under their greatest threat in decades. I do fear that we will end up looking back at these years as the high water mark of lgbtq rep in entertainment before things get much worse. It’s becoming painfully clear that Joe Biden is presiding over a new Weimar Republic and that democracy, women’s rights, lgbtq rights, and human rights in America could be lost for a generation. What comes next may not be Hitler’s Germany but it sure as hell could be Franco’s Spain. If nothing else, HSMTMTS as a fun escapist show is a useful distraction from an ever gloomier world.
