Do you advocate for your dog???
You wouldn't allow a stranger to approach your child, reach into the pram and pull them out for a cuddle. You'd intercede! Do your dog the same courtesy, and advocate for them.
Is your dog anxious about or scared of strangers? If so, when people ask to pat your dog say NO! You don't need to worry about offending that person, and you don't need to give a reason unless you want to. Be polite, but be firm, and your dog will learn that you are willing to step up on their behalf.
Which means they don’t need to react.
Is your dog worried about other dogs? Make sure you react to the approach of other dogs and owners before they can allow their "friendly" dog to get in your dog’s face or in their space. It is not the right of that person who "just wants to socialise their dog" to override what you believe is best for your dog. Again, your dog needs to see that they have a strong leader who will step up on their behalf and not allow the other dog into their comfort zone.
Which means they don’t need to react
If you don't step up to the plate, one day they just might, and I wonder what form that might take. You just might be shocked at what they might do.

More intelligent Dogs are better behaved and more obedient...
Tumblr media
Intelligent training can make all the difference when it comes to your pet friend. It turns out that canines who are more intellectual than their less intelligent counterparts tend to behave better and be more obedient. Because smart dogs pick up commands more quickly and efficiently, training sessions are more effective and efficient.
How can you Dramatically improve your dog's obedience ?
In fact, studies have shown that canines with higher IQs are less prone to engage in problematic behaviours such excessive barking, gnawing, and digging. Additionally, they can be easier to live with and travel with because they are better at adjusting to new circumstances and places.
How you can Eliminate troublesome behavior like barking, chewing or reactivity ?
Choosing a breed with greater intelligence levels can have a significant impact on your training and overall experience if you're looking for a new furry friend. Golden retrievers, German shepherds, Poodles, and Border Collies are some of the most well-known breeds of clever dogs.
Have your dog effortlessly sit, lie down, stay, heel, drop and walk by your side ?
Always keep in mind that a happy dog is a well-trained dog, and investing in your dog's intelligence through training and breed selection will result in a more rewarding and enjoyable relationship for both you and your canine friend.

6 ways to reduce stress at the vet clinic (first time or returning), doggy edition. 1. Make the car ride comfortable 🔸Let your dog "go potty" before the ride. 🔸Use a familiar smelling crate or blanket. 🔸Use medication for motion sickness from the vet, if necessary. 🔸Spray your car interior with DAP like Adaptil, if available in your country. 2. Bring a variety of food your dog likes 🔹Unless your dog is fasting for a medical procedure or too sick to eat. 🔹Food is great to help reduce stress and to distract your dog's attention from your vet's procedure. 🔹Food is great for stress indicator. Stops eating? Dog is too overwhelmed. Take a break. 3. Bring a mat or a lightweight dog bed 🔸Use a mat to help your dog settle while waiting. 🔸A vet exam table may be too slippery or cold. A non-slippery and familiar mat can provide more stability and grip on the exam table to make it more comfortable. 4. Comfort your dog, do not reprimand 🔹Talk to your dog, give treats, or a toy. 🔹If the waiting room is busy, let the receptionist know you will be taking your dog for a sniff in the parking lot or waiting in the car. 🔹If your dog is struggling, do not get angry or forceful. 5. Let your dog acclimate, no rushing 🔸Let your dog sniff around and urinate in the parking lot before going in. 🔸Let your dog get used to the new environment. 🔸Do not rush the process. Your dog will be more willing to move forward if he feels comfortable. 6. Do not use the leash to gain control 🔹A leash is for safety precaution, not to control the dog. 🔹Try luring using food, targeting your hand, or using your voice. 🔹If your dog is not comfortable with a harness yet, stick to a collar but never pull on it. #ForceFreedogtraining #DogTraining #TrainYourDog #PositiveReinforcement #ClickerTraining #ScienceBasedTraining #ModernDogTraining #FearFree #SnackFeederNotPackLeader #DogLover #TrainWithoutPain #AnimalTraining #DogKnowledge #JakartaDogTraining #DogTrainingJakarta #jakarta #DogTrainingBogor #bogor #BogorDogTraining #CibuburDogTraining #cibubur #BaliDogTraining #DogTrainingBali #bali #LatihAnjing #LatihAnjingmu #IlmuAnjing #RPlusDogTrainer (at Kota Wisata Cibubur) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkXEWasPjmy/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Who is this little baby? Buddy Henry Barkley Beardsley is our little love bug. However, when he is outside the house he can act like the most ferocious lion when he sees people, dogs or cars!! I have to warn people that he will jump and bark but that I have him. Some are so sweet and think he is cute. Some he is really good with. I imagine some may be afraid. Some laugh when he barks and jumps in the air at cars. Crazy dog!!! He is getting better. In case you didn’t know, he is a rescue about two years old and has been with us since June 30th. We are working with a trainer and he is very smart!! The trainer teaches us things and we are amazed that they seem so simple but there is no way we could have ever thought of those things on our own. I can’t wait to see how he behaves on walks in about three months. #norfolkterriersofinstagram #norfolkterrier #dachshundsofinstagram #dachshund #dorkiesofinstagram #dorkiesofig #dorkie #crazydog #trainyourdog #jumpsandbarks #newbraunfelstexas #newbraunfelstx #newbraunfels #newbraunfelsphotographer #newbraunfelsartist #texashillcountry #texashillcountryphotographer #texashillcountrysrtist #texasartist #texasphotographer #nancybeardsleyart #nancybeardsley #dogmom #babydog https://www.instagram.com/p/CjPNKPdtm0U/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A New Leash on Life Dog Training Head Trainer Profile:
Hi I'm Keryn, and I'm the head of A New Leash on Life and the rest of the team (the dogs are the heart of course lol) have insisted that I have to introduce myself, if I'm going to introduce them, so here goes:
Name: Keryn
Alternative name: Aunty K (to two gorgeous nephews)
Role: Head Trainer
Other roles: admin, social media and finance boss
Favourite role: Mum of dogs
Favourite Colour: blue
Favourite Food: chocolate
Favourite Day of the Week: any day with a sleep-in
Hobbies: My favourite (non-dog) activity is iPhone photography. The dogs are totally supporting of this because I used to take nothing but dog photos, now they feature in heaps less photos, and they often get to run, sniff and explore whilst I'm taking photos.
As a kid I wanted to be: a ballerina or an accountant. Thankfully I got over that as I'm not that good at maths and I definitely cannot dance.
Favourite place you have travelled to? Japan. I lived there for a few years after I finished school and got to see quite a bit of the country. I'd highly recommend it to anyone wanting to travel.
What dog breed would you like to have, but will never have & why? I'd super love to have a Great Dane, they are so regal and elegant. They come with their own unique set of living and training challenges, but all part of the fun. However, I'll never have one because they just take up too much space for my small home, it wouldn't be fair. And let's face it, cleaning up after their poos would be like living with an elephant lol.
Tell me something about you! What breed of dog would you love to own but never will?

puppy training ≠ obedience training Puppy training classes should include: 🔹puppy parent education 🔹proper and safe socialization opportunities 🔹force free training 🔹nurturing human-animal bond Puppy parent education: Knowledge for taking care of a different species is not supposed to be "common sense". It is perfectly normal (and encouraged) to look for a qualified help to make our dog happy. Proper and safe socialization opportunities: The window of opportunity for puppy socialization may close at around 16 weeks. But socialization should continue into adulthood to prevent regression. Puppy classes usually run for 5 or 6 weeks during which puppy parents are equipped with knowledge to continue socialization and training outside of class. Force free training: Starting at around 8 weeks old, puppies already have the capacity to learn. We can absolutely start training them. But, make sure to do it safely and kindly by not using fear, pain, aversive, or intimidation to teach. Dogs deserve to learn without the fear of pain or intimidation. Nurturing human-animal bond: Training should open a two-way communication. Not a "do as I say" type of relationship. To quote Zazie Todd, PhD (@zazietodd), "In general terms, when we provide dogs with what they need, it means they have good welfare and they are happy. When dogs have what they need, they are less likely to have behaviour issues, and they are more likely to have a good relationship with us. So instead of thinking about obedience, we should think about happiness. Everyone loves their dog. And I think everyone wants their dog to be happy too." #ForceFreedogtraining #DogTraining #TrainYourDog #PositiveReinforcement #ClickerTraining #ScienceBasedTraining #ModernDogTraining #FearFree #SnackFeederNotPackLeader #DogLover #TrainWithoutPain #AnimalTraining #DogKnowledge #JakartaDogTraining #DogTrainingJakarta #jakarta #DogTrainingBogor #bogor #BogorDogTraining #CibuburDogTraining #cibubur #BaliDogTraining #DogTrainingBali #bali #LatihAnjing #LatihAnjingmu #IlmuAnjing #RPlusDogTrainer (at Kota Wisata Cibubur) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjZZuORLZff/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A Head to Toe Guide to Washing Your Dog
Tumblr media
While that doggy smell can be completely normal, many dogs do seem to be particularly on the nose. Getting your dog used to regular grooming and bathing from an early age and making sure you have fun doing it will ensure you have happy, healthy and odour free canine companion.
Shampoos and Conditioners
Dogs have skin that is half the thickness of human skin, is very sensitive and has a different pH. You can’t always assume that human products are okay for your pet. Use a good quality and gentle pet shampoo and if your dog is prone to dry skin, greasy skin, frequent skin infections or is itchy, ask your Vet which shampoo is best.
You can also view our guide to dog shampoos for a more detailed look at what shampoos will suit your dog. Conditioners are not really necessary, unless your dog has particularly dry hair. Most pet conditioners are leave-in and can be applied as the coat is drying, or even without washing first.
Where to Bath Your Dog
Smaller dogs can be easily bathed in the laundry sink, a baby bath, the normal bath tub or even the bottom of the shower. Using a non-slip mat can make your pet more secure on the slippery surface. An inside bath allows you to ensure the water is warm, but not warmer than your skin. If it is a nice sunny day, you can wash your pet outdoors and a nice game of fetch or a walk afterwards is a great way to stop them rolling in the garden and will speed up the drying process.
Technique
Keep a hand on your dog at all times when you are washing them. This will make it less likely they will shake all over you and attempt to leap from the bath. Have everything ready before you go and make sure you include a good massage while shampooing and towelling off to make the whole experience pleasurable for your pet. If your dog is a bit worried about bathing, particularly in certain areas, use lots of food rewards to encourage good behavior. If your dog is prone to wiggling and getting water in the ears, place a piece of cotton wool loosely in the ears to avoid getting water down there.
Bath time is a great time to check your pet’s nails, ears, teeth and skin for any abrasions or new lumps and bumps. Systematically feel your pet all over, perhaps while you are doing a nice massage with the shampoo.
Start With These Basics
Hose or handheld spray for the taps if using a sink or bath
Towels
Bathmat or something clean to stand on if outside
Shampoos/conditioners
Brush
Face washer or sponge
Hairdryer if you need a quick dry
Cotton wool
Ear cleaner
Nail clippers
Treats
The Step-by-Step Washing Process
Brush your pet to remove any tangles or debris from the coat.
Get your pet wet, avoiding the head.
Apply a 20c piece amount of shampoo, lathering up all over.
Massage your pet to distribute the shampoo.
Leave on for the recommended length of time.
Meanwhile use a face washer or sponge to wipe down the face (no need for shampoo).
Rinse, making sure all the residue has disappeared.
Stand back and allow your pet to shake.
Towel dry.
Use a hairdryer on a low heat with a brush or take your pet for a walk in the sun to dry.
Check your pet’s ears and remove any cotton wool. If your dog needs an ear clean, check our ear cleaning guide for detailed instructions.
Check your dog’s nails, if they need trimming, follow our step-by step nail trimming guide.
Smelly Dogs
Dogs that really do smell bad may actually have allergies or dermatitis. Take your pet in for a check-up with your Vet to rule out any underlying problems such as bacterial or fungal skin disease or dental disease. Your Vet will also be able to recommend the best shampoo for your dog’s skin type. develop a smelly odors in between baths, have slightly red or itchy skin may have allergies. Dogs that have fleas often also develop itchy and smelly skin, so ensure your flea control is up to date, even if you don’t see visible fleas on your pet.
You can also use Dermoscent to increase the fatty acid balance in the skin and improve smell. There are also various leave-in conditioners that can be applied in between baths to improve smell, such as Aloveen.
We hope you enjoy the time spent giving your pet a bath. This quality time can become very important to your pet and doing the job yourself can save you a great deal of money over the lifetime of your dog.
