So some more thoughts on The Sun and The Star

I love how this book has one of the healthiest understanding of love I’ve seen in recent media.

To quote Persephone

“But no matter what form love takes, no matter how much or how little you have, you must still choose to cultivate it. In friendships, in romantic relationships, in life,”

I love that quote because I feel like there’s no longer an understanding of the choice you make to love. Love is a complex idea, and I feel like to many people believe it’s just a feeling. From what I’ve observed and understood in my life it isn’t though. Of course feelings are important and are typically what start it love isn’t just that. Love is also a choice and a commitment. You choose each day to love somebody to commit yourself to actively work towards furthering your relationship and your understanding of each other.

This book understood that. It understood that in a relationship there’s going to be times it’s hard, you don’t understand each other and you might fight. Those giddy romantic feelings might die out for a bit. But none of those mean you give up. No you work through your issues and along the way you might reignite the spark that started everything.

And that’s what Solangelos relationship was, they had their highs and their lows, they fought, they didn’t always feel those sappy feelings but through all of that they never gave up on their relationship. They worked through it.

I don’t know I just thought this was a really refreshing take on a love story. It was a type of love that even I as someone Aroace spec could understand. I don’t get those giddy brain chemical feelings but I do understand commitment and choosing to love those people important in your life.

im only on like chapter ten so i might do a deep dive on his autism once i finish the book but these are just my thoughts for now :p 🫶💞💞

so the first thing that i noticed (which i have made multiple posts about lmao 😭😭🫶💞💞) is that he has a night light.!!!! (he is so precious ok <333) a lot of people who have asd need these kinds of things that are considered “childish”. this is a prime example of like growing up autistic!! especially the way it was phrased. he was described as being really embarrassed about it, as he probably knows it isn’t “the normal”. what i mean by this is what i was saying before. for example, stimming (which is very common with autism) is considered very “childish”. this is the case probably because little children tend to rock back and forth to sooth themselves. however!! stimming should be normalized and it is so so valid!!!!

going to a prime example i have heard a lot of people talk about is will’s interest in the star wars franchise. will was described by nico as something along the lines of being the biggest fan in the group. i don’t have too many thoughts on this but i thought i would mention it :3.!

going back to BoO, will is shown to be a very certain way, i guess is how i would describe it. for example, the insult he calls Octavian. yes, it could be because he is a child of apollo, but it could also be because of being autistic. my idea behind this is that a common trait with autism is lack of understanding of social cues. if will doesn’t understand what a common insult sounds like, it could be because he doesn’t understand social cues. (does this make sense lmao 😭😭🫶💞)

another common occurrence when it comes to autism is having certain things you do / have for comfort. for example, we freak out if anything happens to our noise cancelling headphones. will may have wanted to been prepared in every way he possibly could be out of comfort. ESPECIALLY since the underworld is extremely out of his comfort zone, he wanted things that would give him comfort in a very (emotionally) unsafe environment.

Apollo pouted. “Can’t I just come and visit my wonderful son and his boyfriend for the sake of it?” He paused ever so briefly, then he opened his mouth to continue, but Nico cut him off.

“You just said you’d been too busy to come visit.” Nico said. “And this, I’m going to be honest, is really random.”

Will agreed. “Yeah, you did just kind of show up out of the blue while we’re doing something.”

“That was meant to be rhetorical.” Apollo sighed. “I heard you got a quest.”

Ngl, I was really hoping we were gonna get Jason back.  I just feel between him and piper he shouldn’t have died.

Like there was so much Rick could’ve done with his character.

- reunion /bonding moments between Thalia and Jason

-he could literally be a main/ background character without it being forced for nostalgia reasons because he and Nico are friends and formed a bond. Also let Nico have a damn friend !!!!!!

- he could’ve been Demi- bi Like after having his memories fucked with and being kidnapped by a wolf, it would’ve made sense that Jason opened himself up to new things .also I just feel it would resonate more. Being forced to be this golden boy and not being able to truly be yourself then having to relearn how to be you.

- his fricken lightning powers. He didn’t even get full control over that, and we even saw hints of him getting better grasps at his wind powers. It would’ve been cool if we saw more of that and him developing them more. Expecially after hinting how powerful he could be in blood of Olympus and mark of Athena.

- also him and Annabeth friendship. Like it would have been nice to see a different friendship within the seven outside of the usual groups. 

- like I just feel it’s a waste how Jason had all this trauma and potential and new character development only for it to be thrown away.

anyway, so I’m in denial, they brought Jason back in tsats, he reunited with his bf Travis Stoll and ya….

Can we just appreciate that Persephone said aromantic rights! Like it made me feel so happy when she said “And there are those of course who experience no romantic feelings whatsoever,” It felt so good to be seen. I nearly cried, I never expect my experience to be represented so when it is it makes me feel things. Then she went on to talk about how no matter what form love takes you still have to cultivate it. She acknowledged that aromantic people are still fully capable of love, we can still have deep and meaningful relationships. And it just made me so happy.

I'm almost certain they both act quieter when nervous/scared/sad.

They both think they are useless even though they did pretty impressive and quite helpful stuff.
