Edward Brian "Tubby" Hayes (30 January 1935 – 8 June 1973)was an English jazz multi-instrumentalist, (also played flute and vibes). Best known for his tenor saxophone playing in groups with fellow sax player Ronnie Scott and with trumpeter Jimmy Deuchar.

Abstract Orchestra - Madvillain Vol. 2 (ATA Records - 2019)

Le renouveau de la scène jazz du Royaume-Uni commence à être très bien documentée et les bonnes sorties sont pléthoriques.

Le dernier revival jazz en date, celui de l'Acid Azz, au tournant des années 80, était très influencé par les classiques soul jazz de la fin des années 70, et était d'ailleurs plus soul que jazz. Le revival actuel est beaucoup plus jazz que soul, avec des interprétations serrées et âpres, beaucoup plus proche de Sun Ra et Pharoah Sanders et de la vague spiritual jazz que de Roy Ayers ou Norman Connors.

L'Abstract Orchestra est un orchestre de jazz de Leeds conduit par Rob Mitchell qui s'inscrit pleinement dans cette nouvelle école qui fait feu de tout bois. Après avoir accompagné pas mal de cadors de la scène soul/nu soul/rap us sur scène ou en studio, il s'est lancé dans une réinterprétation live de l'oeuvre de producteurs de hip hop américains cultes. Après Dilla, les deux volumes de Madvillain se concentrent sur la collaboration entre MF Doom et Madlib. Largement basé sur des samples, les productions de Madlib sont réduites à leur idée principale puis réinterprétées, étendues et malaxées avec un talent jubilatoire. Les reprises de l'Abstract Orchestra prennent une identité propre qui célèbre pleinement le génie de feu MF Doom et de Madlib avec une énergie de dingue. Je ne les ai jamais vu en live mais si c'est du même niveau que leurs disques, cela doit être dantesque.

いやだめだ、こりゃロンドンに移住しないと死ぬ設定なのかも。

ここ２−３年くらいで謎に（ukjazzを中心に）ロンドンベースのミュージシャンが私の生活の軸になってきたというか、知らぬ間に、あれっ私の好きなミュージシャンみんなロンドンの人？という謎の現象に陥ってきたというか。もちろんアメリカにもカナダにも日本にも他の国にも沢山敬愛しているミュージシャンはいますが。

この仮ポストコロナ時代の中で有り難くもライブ産業が軌道に戻りつつあり、私のベルリンに住みたいと思った理由の一つでもある”ライブに行きまくる”がようやく実現可能になってきたここ数ヶ月。本当に最高です。人生ありがとう。音楽ありがとう。

でもたまに妄想する。もし私がロンドンに住めたら、毎日のように好きなアーティストのライブに気軽に行けちゃったりする生活になるのかなぁ、と。でも現実的に考えて、学生でもない身分で、人脈もなくて、職探しもしないといけない中、ベルリンよりもはるかに物価が高く、物事の動きも早い大都市ロンドンで今の私が生きていくのは現実的ではないと。

ベルリンゆるすぎるやろー。ゆるいという、かなり特殊だからなこの街。一度ベルリンに染まってしまったら東京とかロンドンみたいな大都市で生活できないと思う。価値観のズレが生じるというか、なんというか、揉まれて流されてすり減って消えそう。

あーーん、でもロンドンで音楽三昧の生活できたら夢のようなだなーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーだって逆にロンドンでライブしないミュージシャンとか存在しないじゃん？たまにヨーロッパツアーでベルリン抜けてることあるけど、ロンドン抜かす人なんていないじゃん？あーーーーそんなこと妄想する前にはやく卒論始めないと本当にやばいですよ私。
