Undertale/Miitopia Crossover AU--an RPG trope exploration
Undertale is a game about questioning the motives behind RPG player actions, such as grinding for levels, slaughtering bosses, seeing them as "the bad guys" or "in the way" or "trying to get the item drop". What if the RPG game in question was Miitopia?? Introducing "UNDERTOPIA". (WARNING: this contains SPOILERS for both UNDERTALE AND MIITOPIA.) . Instead of Monsters stealing SOULs, they steal FACEs . Without FACEs they're harmless, "incomplete" as the Great Sage says, hence their forms disappear so easily upon being killed . Instead of DETERMINATION we have FRIENDSHIP, which functions similarly. It allows Miis to get up after falling in battle, or to heal themselves to keep fighting, and is increased at Inns (which function as Save Points). FRIENDSHIP motivates these Miis forward in the story, and can make them do wonderful things...or terrible things, like kill for a friend. . The seven SOULs are seven FACEs of the teammates of the final fallen Mii, the main character. This is why the Mii climbs Mt. Karkaton. . Instead of traits like Integrity, Patience, etc, the seven traits are: KIND, COOL, AIRHEADED, LAID-BACK, CAUTIOUS, ENERGETIC, and STUBBORN. . Unlike Undertale, you can pick your trait as well as your name (and face) because FRIENDSHIP functions similarly across all traits, to DETERMINATION. (STUBBORN or KIND might be the most consistent but it's whatever) . Unlike Miitopia, you cannot pick a job--you are a wandering traveler the whole game. But you can still pick up weapons and outfits--of your previous Teammates and their various jobs. . The Boss Monsters would likely be played by Dragons like Dominic because they are similarly stable under their own power. Boss Monster's SOULs last a little longer after death, and Dragons like Dominic already have their own FACE and personality. . The roles of Flowey and Chara would be weird and interesting to find because though the enemies in Miitopia are Monsters, the main antagonists are all human Miis! FACEs are given to the Monsters by a Mii who felt rejected by the rest of huMiinity (Chara hated humanity, they wouldn't say why) and who lost their own FACE (Chara has no soul of their own). . One option would be to make Flowey and Chara a composite character represented by the DARK CURSE, as they both have a similar role and motivations. If we wanted to keep it complicated, however, we could try to reconcile their roles as Ex Dark Lord or even Dark Sage. But for now a single, malicious, possessive, evil entity seems simpler. . The Harsh Punishment vs Forgiveness Is Divine endings can play into how players see the Chara substitute, as evil and demonic or a kind human who was lost. This would be in addition to Undertale's Pacifist, Genocide, etc. . Some monsters are close enough in resemblance that they can pass as individual Undertale characters easily. . Sans and Papyrus are Skulletons . Alphys might be like a Lizardman or even an Alien . Undyne could be an armor-based enemy or a Rockhopper . Mettaton would DEFINITELY be a Robot Warrior . Goats are Dragons as previously mentioned . The BARRIER is made of FACEs (like the Overworld made by the Darker Lord) and is broken by strong FACE/RELATIONSHIP power. . Your Mii gets stronger in Pacifist by increasing RELATIONSHIP with the Monsters, or EXPERIENCE by killing them, increasing RELATIONSHIP with missing friends instead, or perhaps if Genocide, inverting into... . RESENTMENT, from the Quarrel function in Miitopia. This could go one of two ways. . RESENTMENT can be built up with any monster, like Undyne if you don't give her water or Sans if you kill his brother. Pacifist must be RESENTMENT-free. Either that or: . Only Genocide unlocks the RESENTMENT function at the very end. All the killing reveals in you a deep, unquenchable RESENTMENT for all Miis and Monsters alike--hence your choice to destroy them ALL (with the Dark Curse's help, which is also full of RESENTMENT). . The Dark Curse asks for your FACE in return so every run after Genocide is a FACEless run. Any other ideas are welcome! I hope this becomes a fleshed-out AU because I feel like it's an interesting idea. I know it doesn't have much chance because Undertale is sort of old now, but I hope you enjoy reading this anyway.

New AU idea I think!!
Just a lil something I came up with before bed a few nights ago, buuuut-
I'm naming it UnderTopia, and it'll follow the Canon UT timeline fairly closely (1 think, I'm not 100% sure yetImao.) It's set in the near future, both the humansand monsters have advanced technologically, buttheir worlds have gone down different routesHumanity has transformed into a CyberPunk societywhereas Monsterkind has a Cyberprep environment
l'll add more as I figure out the finer details, but for now, here is a rough mockup of my first re-design for the Monsters! Meet UnderTopia Sans :]]
He might get a new name eventually, but for now, it is just Sans.

The UnderTopia Brothers
Meet UnderTopia papyrus! He looks serious here, but dont worry! He's still a sweet goofball that's obsessed with puzzles. He's just a little more on the mature side now. His puzzles pose more of a challenge, and instead of spaghetti, his favorite pasta dish is lasagna. (It's still awful) He is a member of the Royal Guard in this Universe.
I touched up Sans's colors a bit, mainly just his coat and eyes. I'd say his personality remains fairly similar to his Canon self. He's very active and is a master at parkour, but he still maintains a slightly lazy facade to the monsters around him. He's also incredibly sarcastic and tends to get grumpy when over exhausted. Sans’s condiment of choice is hot sauce. (Siracha specifically)
