Rejected: orígenes vol I.

Cuando llegué al taller de Rejected en agosto del 2022 tenia ni siquiera un par de días de llegar a Ciudad de México. Con nada más que la curiosidad del principio, terminé por quedarme hasta hoy, pero estos días Rejected ya no es nada como el día que tomamos estas fotos.

Conocí a Rafairy unos meses antes ese año, en una fiesta de moda en Cdmx donde no sabíamos que nos íbamos a encontrar pero ya conocíamos nuestras identidades de internet. Yo aún vivía en Culiacán y mucho de ese fin de semana me hizo tomar la decisión de mudarme a La Ciudad. Curiosamente, nadíe lo sabíamos aún pero esa noche nos conocimos casi todo el equipo actual de Rejected.

Cuando me mudé, me acerqué a Rafairy que solo había visto en persona esa vez para asistirlo en su taller de costura haciendo pequeñas tareas. Yo en ese momento no sabía ni siquiera prender una máquina de coser.  

Rafa ya tenia alrededor de 4 años con Rejected Mx, una brand y movimiento de indumentaria 1/1 de upcycling.

Recuerdo perfecto el día de las fotos. Era la primera vez que visitaba su estudio, armamos un styling improvisado con unas prendas increíbles de denim y tartán upcycleado, fumamos weed, nos pegamos brillitos en la cara, creamos juntes desde el día 1 y no hemos parado de hacerlo.

Su taller en ese momento constituía de su habitación en el patio de su casa, me quedaba a 1 estación de metrobús de distancia, en la Colonia Guerrero. Los primeros meses fue de aprender rápido, no solamente los tecnicismos y la esencia de coser sino a la par, estaba conociendo la nueva ciudad donde estaba viviendo y a mi propia nueva versión.

Desde ese lugar, junto a sus perrites Luli y Lito, estaba creciendo la familia Rejected rápidamente y, ahora ese taller quedó en estas fotos y en nuestras memorias. Rafairy ahora rehabitó su propia recámara y ya no duerme en su sala desde que el taller se trasladó a Santa María la Ribera a finales de septiembre 2022.

Han pasado 8 meses y el camino que hemos recorrido juntes van desde las cloacas de los tianguis más grandes de latinoamérica, pasando por clubes lgbtq+, shows drags y riñas callejeras hasta pasarelas, podcasts, arte y drama, un chingo de drama por supuesto.

Ahora Rejected es no sólo un espacio desde la habitación de Rafairy, sino trabajamos desde una taller y adicionalmente hay una tienda en la colonia Roma. Pero de ello hablaré en la parte II y III de Rejected: orígenes.

Still feeling poopy again today, so just a brief shop update - I recently found another vintage Aquamarine orb in my stash I'd accidentally overlooked that could be upcycled into a Pool Of Light style crystal ball necklace. It's got lots of natural crackles in it that give way to many shades of turquoise aquamarine blue, like sunlight dappling on the ocean. We want to introduce our new Upcycling Fashion course as well as our new fashion instructor for this course. Diana Dorado holds a Master’s Degree in Fashion Design from the Institut Francais de la mode in Paris and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design from the ESDI Escola Superior de Disseny in Barcelona. She is a womenswear designer with extensive experience in luxury and sportswear markets, from initial research to final. Her interest lies in environmentally friendly fashion design. For those who are not familiar with upcycling, it's a method of taking old, worn-out, or damaged materials and transforming them into new articles of clothing. In this course, students will learn how to turn old or discarded clothes and materials into new and valuable apparel and accessories. By cutting and sewing, the students will give new life to old items and extend the time they are being used. Upcycling clothes is a great way to minimize the impact of fashion on the environment. Those who are interested will have some sewing skills as a prerequisite.
