meeting wyll at the grove, as someone who the tieflings trust enough to train their children, says so much about him. it's so sad that he doesn't get explored in acts 2-3 as deeply as the other companions, when his problems are equally intense. the average player probably long rests once before coming across the grove, but even if not, in that time wyll has already proven to the tieflings that they can rely on the Blade of Frontiers.
this is the immediate first thing he chooses to do after being condemned to slow death via ceremorphosis. his priority list in the first conversations with tav is: 1) hunt down a dangerous devil, 2) help zevlor with the goblins, 3) once nothing threatens the tieflings he will gladly search for a tadpole cure. wyll is perpetually his own last priority, and i wonder if it has to do with the lore about souls.
if he believes mind flayers' souls have been destroyed, and fiend warlocks will all have their souls sent to the hells after death, then becoming a mind flayer isn't the worst possible way for him to die. he would never become a mindless monster to save his own soul, but he's not gripped by horror the way that some of the other origin characters are. lae'zel has been made revoltingly impure to her people, astarion is terrified of losing the scrap of bodily autonomy he just regained, gale is guilt-ridden over the orb detonation if he dies, shadowheart has to survive to prove herself to her cult leader, and karlach has also just regained bodily autonomy and is desparate to live.
this is just another quest for the Blade, whose persona guards wyll ravengard against the vice of self-concern when he ought to be concerned for those in need.

i think vampires that drink from animals should be considered more unethical than ones that drink from humans. "ohhh its vegan" bitch no it isnt. youre gonna drain that poor wild deer and leave it woozy and weak to other predators? you're two steps left of a poacher. just go to your local gay bar and you can find 100s of people that would willingly sign up to being bitten if you dont mind them being a little freaky about it.

(unserious joke post ahead) I'm gatekeeping guilt narratives from people who haven't committed atrocities. too many times have I encountered a story with a very promising guilt-ridden character and then we learn what they did and it was something no reasonable person could think was bad and the character just has low self worth about it or it was socially unacceptable in the setting. give me some Nuance to chew on. give me someone struggling to find the stable ground between accountability and self destruction. look me in the eye and tell me just how far your faith in the human power to grow extends. maybe shoot a man in reno just to watch him die then feel really fucked up about it and then your fiction will be better.

the thing that cracks me up is that louis and lestat literally don’t even sleep in the Only One Bed. like. they have a whole secret separate room where they ACTUALLY sleep (in coffins <3). at multiple points in the show there are comments from other characters including the Fucking Cops about how everyone knows louis and lestat only have one bed upstairs. and it’s a Whole Issue. because being gay was literally illegal and the Actual Fucking Cops were in their fake bedroom poking around under their One Bed and drawing. the appropriate conclusions. about louis and lestat’s relationship. except the thing is. that they don’t even fucking sleep in the bed! the bed is already a front it’s already a piece of theatre its only purpose is to be their “look at us definitely just Two Normal Guys” statement. and yet. i think about this all the time actually. they went to all the trouble of creating a separate fake bedroom appropriate for public consumption in case anyone went upstairs in their house. and yet. they didn’t even bother putting two beds in it! they could have just had two beds! they could have avoided the entire issue with the extremely thinly veiled “we could 100% DEFINITELY get you on indecency charges anytime we like as we have literally Seen The Evidence" threats from the cops! they could have just. done that. but they were so caught up in the euphoria of successfully concealing the evidence of their vampiric lifestyle that they lived in a world in which being gay wasn’t also illegal, i guess

vampire in a dark paranormal romance novel who's just kind of boring and wants nothing more than to chill in his gamer coffin and watch late-night talk shows, except he can't because all these horny goth women keep turning up at his house and going "oh no! i've accidentally stumbled into a vampire's lair... oh, and i've forgotten my crucifix and my neck is so naked and vulnerable, whatever shall i do 😳🥺"

summary: Jaheira has never been so deluded as to believe she is the best of mothers. She is the mother her children are loved by. When no one else would do the work of caring for them, she will do it proudly. When a child comes to her home to kill her in the night, she has a third cub by morning. Jaheira does her best to do right by the girl. It isn't good enough. Whatever it takes, as a Harper she will do, even if she can only offer to make it quick.
She is not a very good mother. She is the one the Dark Urge can't kill.
alternative summary: an eight year old dark urge tries to assassinate jaheira. she gets adopted instead. this does not fix the kid, at all.

We need more vampire media that depicts vampires as complete dorks and no I will not bend on this topic.
Was reading a fanfiction today where the main character tried to make a smoothie out of raw meat and forgot to put the lid on.

tbh hate the watcher situation but seeing it trending over Taylor fucking Swift's new album is great to see.

it’s wyll’s grand duke romance ending where he adopts a child! a player married to him can hear him talk about their 4 month old, lily aurora, at the epilogue (an extremely wyll babyname choice)
lily aurora….!!!!! truly the most fairytale princess coded name possible. i kinda love this for him, i’m so torn between finding this cute and horrifying (he’s just 24!!!!)
but someone in bg3 needs to pioneer « being a good parent » and who else can do that

Crime!‼️Yes, ✅ there is a crime. 😏☝️A crime for which we would hunt 🏹 🎯another vampire 🧛🏻🦇down until we destroyed 💥🙅🏻 him. Can you guess 🤔💭 what that is? You should know, 🤨 who are so secretive 🤫🤐 about the vampire 🧛🏻 that made you. Can you guess 🤔💭 what that crime is? Didn’t your vampire master 🧛🏻🩸tell you? ⁉️It is the crime that means death ☠️🪦 to any vampire 🧛🏻⚰️ who commits it. It is to kill 🔪🩸🧄 your own kind! 🫵🧛🏻❗️

is lae'zel the only abled origin companion? or am i forgetting something from her backstory?
shadowheart/gale/karlach have unique magical chronic pain conditions. wyll comments on the impacts of losing his eye for the sending stone, indicating that he's had to adapt to less vision physically and emotionally. astarion is experiencing a temporary remission from the worst symptoms of vampirism, but still has to contend with managing a specialized diet while knowing that the tadpole is not a permanent cure.
all of them also deserve therapy after their traumatic experiences, which is absolutely true of lae too, but i can't think of a parallel for her in terms of physical disability. i've only seen one of her epilogues and act 2 of her romance. it would be sensible to headcanon battle injuries from her childhood, but it feels significant when it's part of the explicit canon for the other origins and not her. i feel like i'm missing some symbolism, or a way that she's meant to stand apart from the others.
maybe it's that her intense upbringing wouldn't have been survivable if she was anything less than a perfect soldier, body and mind, and that's generating the fear she feels when she's marked as a traitor to vlaakith?
