I love how this fic completely reimagines canon while still retaining very similar goals. I feel like AUs that cover large swaths of the original media are often at risk of feeling monotonous, but this AU really breathes a completely new life into the story and progresses in a completely different way that lets the reader really get to know the depth of the characters. The overall vibe is a lot different, emphasizing a lot of the secrets you're waiting to see unfold. It makes every chapter incredibly exciting as new little nuggets of information are unearthed that contribute to the larger picture. There's a lot more I could say about this fic but I don't want to spoil the experience so go read it!!!

☄: What do people assume about them? Are they right?

Sendak: People assume that he's full of himself or uppity (false), that he's terrifying (true) or brutal (false). Certain circles assume that he's Zarkon's son by blood, and was only claimed after he did something so impressive that no one could look away anymore (only half-true, Sendak is impressive, but there's no blood relationship between him and Zarkon. Haxus: Most people don't think very much of Haxus, but he has a bit of a reputation on the front for being much more dangerous than he initially appears (true). There are some circles that assume he does most of Sendak's paperwork for him while Sendak runs campaigns (false. Sendak loves paperwork).

🚆: What is their answer to the trolley problem?

Sendak: Stop the train. Haxus: [discoursing about maintenance and complaining about whatever incompetent fool engineer failed to install an emergency brake on a train, ignoring the actual problem]

❇: What is their most prized possession? What do they value?

Sendak: Virtually anything Haxus has made for him over the years, but prosthetics especially (and the unvoiced, unequivocal support they stand for). Haxus: Sendak got him a drafting table for his workspace at home, and while he would never admit it, it's saved his back over the years.

🎁: What types of presents would they be most happy to receive? Are they good at gift-giving?

Both of them are more "experiences" people than "gifts" people, so the ideal present is...say, dinner somewhere scenic that neither of them have been before, and a night just to themselves. That said, Haxus will never turn down a pair of slippers. His feet are always cold.

⚾: Can they play sports? What is their best position on a team sport? What's their strong suit?

Sendak: Galra do treat combat as a sport, outside of the gladiatorial arena, and under better life circumstances Sendak might well be doing that. He's an extremely competent fighter, and can put on one hell of a show. Haxus: do esports count?

TBH I kinda thought it was that Sendak's mind was infecting the Castle and managed to infect Alfor's memory tube, since the Castle didn't start to try to kill them until AFTER they started doing the memory extraction of Sendak

To be fair, it could be?

But we later hear that AI!Alfor’s the one mimicking voices to trap Lance in an ejecting airlock, while Sendak’s definitely unconscious when Shiro thinks he’s interrogating him, while also definitely causing Allura to hallucinate somehow (granted she’s still canonically recovering from healing a balmera, so her tea might’ve been medicated to some degree; but that’s pure speculation + fanfic fodder on my part).

So…because Sendak is definitely unconscious is kinda why I lean away from that take. (Even though s7 leans more into it? But s7 was also quite frankly Awful, Allura didn’t learn anything new just blantant lies with how Eager the Galra were to go Death Star on literally every planet the Paladins visit, and it seemed to be more along the lines of Shiro’s Psychological Torture only now on Allura than anything all that enlightening to what happened in Crystal Venom.)

Would Haxus even be able to yeet his conciousness into the Castle’s Network? Probably not, but the same could be said about Sendak.

All we really know that if it were just an “incompatible crystal” issue, then Sendak would’ve been thoroughly fucked if the Paladins hadn’t managed to retake the Castle by pure dumb luck (Shiro had every right to say “I Told You So,” just sayin’.) We also get a very brief mention of either Allura or Coran mentioning that they had to do offscreen-maintenance on the Castle’s systems specific to the crystal verses being idle for 10k years, I’m pretty sure.

So…we get a lot of speculation at best.

Or…it really could’ve been just the crystal being corrupted by forcible extraction from a balmera + druidic magic. Nearly everything Haggar makes is weaponized and has a very, very short shelf-life once activated, afterall.

Whichever interpretation works best for your fanon is just as good as any other, nonnie :)

The first twenty prompts in the Voltron Art Challenge are mostly head sketches, very low impact, very low stress, to get in the hang of various characters and a style that’s comfortable to draw them in.  They’re also light to let me build up hand stamina, since my arthritis is pretty bad and I’m recovering from nerve damage.  While I’m getting used to pencils again at this point, the stylus for my tablet is a diffrent size and shape and I had to take several breaks during this.

Day 2 is Haxus, which is part of how you can tell my wife wrote the list.  She likes this guy a lot.  He drives me crazy though!  He has such a weird head shape and bizarrely un-Galra-feeling face.  Not that Galra faces are super consistent, but he seems to lack a lot of the consistencies they do have?  It’s weird.  I have my suspicions about the purity of his heritage is all I’m saying.

Screenshot references were used.  I don’t like the way I did his nose here as much as I do in my traditional media version mostly because I spent zero time on it, and I feel like I still don’t have a style I enjoy doing Voltron stuff in, but I was definitely getting more into the groove towards the end.  The improvement across this page is MARKED.

ALSO: I STILL CANNOT GET INTO THE HABIT OF LAYERS.
