Realising that Mello was a kid during the time when Post Soviet states were FUCKED due to power vaccuum left behind by the fall of USSR(And Russia, too, was practically wild west back then). Deeply unwell about that realization. Depending on what you think of his origins, he probably either grew up in the middle of war or in a state where most of the power was in the hands of the mafia. Either way it was probably not an environment where a child felt safe.

new meronia theory just dropped

in my rewatch to develop this further, near did say mello left it behind, but it still strikes me as odd that a place so focused on anonymity would take pictures of those that are supposed to remain anonymous. and mello still knew near would have it.

also, near holds up mello's picture in episode 27 and there is no writing on the back of it. so near definitely was the one that wrote it.
