The time I gained my confidence...
Tumblr media
When I was a kid, I am not the type of student who always raise her hand during recitations in school because I am too shy to be the center of attention. Although I am sure with the answer, it take some time for me to have the confidence to speak out.
Since I like studying especially back then, my parents are always proud to attend the recognition day at school, walking to the stage with me to receive my awards. I may not be actively participating to the activities related to public speaking but my fruit of labor is still being seen with the results of my grades.
I could say that I am not the super nerdy and intelligent type of person, but what I can be proud of is that if I set some goals in my mind, I usually allocate ample times to study or prepare for it. It was the consistency and effort that I usually do whenever I want to achieve the goals I set in mind. I believe that being consistent can help you in anything that you seek to achieve. I also believe that being intelligent is another story. I still remember how those intelligent classmates I had during primary and secondary schools can simply analyze and answer the questions fast and correct after just looking at it for a few minutes, and with that...that is how I define smart people.
Before, I usually categorized myself as an introvert one. I better do everything on my own than being helped by someone, or than be an extra baggage to my group, or be a center of attention and be tagged as fatuous. I used to plan almost everything on my own... I better figure it out myself than asking someone to help me, even if it might cost most of my time to fulfil it... that I am self-reliant.
It all changed when I moved to another country.
Working in IT is not a typical field for women. Unlike in the Philippines, I still had few women colleagues in the team. In Europe, it is not the case, when I got the chance to enter corporate world again, I am always the only woman in my team. It was really difficult. There were even times when I need to push myself to get up from bed and go to work. My team during that time were dominated by men, I feel insecure…I was timorous. I even sometimes cried while walking going to the office, asking why am I actually doing this to myself...ugh! tough times.
But then, after some months, I observed that if I stay this way, I will be left behind...that I should be a team player...I started to forge my mind to trust myself. I tried to be optimistic...I keep telling myself that I won't be here if the company didn't see my potential to be amalgamated to my team.
Slowly, I refined my confidence. I learn how to lower my guard and start to trust the process.
Now, I am already six years here, still working in IT. It is also my second company and only woman in my team, again. Looking back from where I started, I could say that I improved a lot. I am now participating in projects, voice out and ask questions if I want to know more. Collaborating with my team mates and try to socialize if I have a chance to do it. I am thankful that moving to another country made me discover that I can be more than I thought I was, that I can also do what others can...that confidence is actually already within me and I just need to snap it out...
just like in the saying..."It took some fast rhythms to make the dancers come alive."

Gillian Anderson pulls out of conference after organiser writes: “War crimes are war crimes even when committed by allies, and should be called out for what they are.”
I guess that must mean she believes war crimes are not war crimes when committed by allies.
So is this the “liberal” position these days?
🤷‍♂️

Shouldn't have apologised Paddy. You were right even if you ARE an unlikable scrote.
The summit wound up a horrific display of who's been brainwashed entirely and who cares more about money than Palestine, when those assholes started pulling out en masse.

Weekly output: applied AI, open innovation, Mastodon updates, AI equity, 1Password, Signal, Eve Air Mobility, travel tech, travel tips
After getting back from Brazil early Saturday morning, I’ve napped more than usual but have also spoken at an event in D.C., gotten in some gardening, and enjoyed a shorter-than-usual bike ride. 5/1/2023: Companies adopting AI need to move slowly and not break things, Fast Company I wrote about how two companies I’ve covered elsewhere recently–the satellite-imagery firm Planet and the…

From the stage of the "largest tech conference in the world," an "adidas executive" announced to a standing-room-only crowd that adidas was launching a virtual world for the underpaid garment workers in their many overseas factories, so they can enjoy the pleasures they can't possibly afford in real life. To cap off the announcement, multi-platinum "DJ Marshmello" emerged along with a troupe of breakdancers to drop the new single, "All day I dream (of back pay)," accompanied on two giant overhead screens by a deeply horrifying "live feed" from the adiVerse. The hundreds of spectators applauded enthusiastically. Afterwards, journalists at a packed press conference asked no difficult questions at all, and one called the scheme "revolutionary."
The Yes Men, if you don't know them, are activist pranksters, who often impersonate companies in satirical presentations to "to communicate what they really mean".

Something about tech... :)
Tumblr media
In 2022, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in the web summit held in Lisbon. Ever since I entered the IT field and first learned about this summit back in the Philippines, I eagerly anticipated the day when I could attend in person. I always aspired to listen to speakers from leading tech companies and promising startups worldwide, eager to hear their insightful ideas about shaping the future through technology.
Throughout my four-day sojourn at this summit, I find it pleasantly overwhelming to witness technologists, scientists, investors, and even politicians passionately addressing and tackling various global challenges. The application of innovative solutions often surprises me, as some initially seemed implausible. Having participated in this summit, I've come to realize the significance of having a vision and values, not just for personal growth but also in the context of one's career. It's not solely about financial gains; it's equally crucial for every company to have a vision addressing environmental concerns. Personally, I believe that while money doesn't guarantee happiness, it can provide the freedom and opportunities needed to pursue activities that bring joy and fulfillment in life. I am now trying to contribute in my own modest way by disseminating some of the significant insights I gained from this event. - We require the unity of all individuals, rather than solely attributing blame to politicians when the system or process is flawed. Depending on a single factor is not the solution; instead, the key is the alignment and collaborative efforts of everyone involved. - Age and gender are merely labels. Influential speakers at this event began their journey at the age of 15, and many of the sessions I've participated in featured women in the field of science. They shared their visions and actions for the future, while young individuals demonstrated their commitment to their passions, making a meaningful impact in their unique ways. - 80% of greenhouse gases are produced by animal agriculture, and 40% are coming from transportation (air, land, sea). Lessen our meat consumption. 😉 - Taking a single step forward, no matter how small, constitutes progress. Don't underestimate your significance by seeing yourself as just one among many on Earth; your actions do indeed make a difference. When combined with the efforts of others, they contribute to a larger and meaningful outcome. - Stop talking and start taking actions. Now. If you inquire about the most significant lesson I've gained from this occasion, it would be the realization that one's mind has the power to lead you to extraordinary places and bring forth your optimal capabilities, thereby potentially influencing the world in significant ways. Your mind stands as your most precious asset, so I urge you to prioritize and nurture your mental well-being. It's crucial to take breaks when needed, yet never cease your pursuit of knowledge. You could be the future tech innovator you admire or the leader of a groundbreaking startup shaping a substantial impact on the world.

By leveraging the Growth Program, VSC intends to empower consumers to own their health data and grow its HealthFi ecosystem. The project supports VSC's view that people should own their health data and recognize its worth. Go to vyvo.com to learn more about the Vyvo Smart Chain.

Paddy and the tweet
Paddy and the tweet. Paddy learnt a very harsh lesson - we all need to pay heed as any of us could be next !
It can be like a drug at times … You are one of the “brave” ones, one who has a prominent profile and one who has no bother speaking your mind on the public social media platform that we all used to call Twitter. The fans / supporters / followers like what you said and say “well done, I’d never be as brave as that, I prefer to stay quiet” Paddy Cosgrave fits the bill perfectly – he is a clear…
