1. Favorite scene?

HONESTLY it’s gotta be the now or never performance. kenny knew what he was doing because i was hooked in the first ten seconds and THEN REGGIE’S HAIR FLIP??? i’ve never looked back.

2. Favorite character when you started the show?

Reggie. he’s just... he’s so my type it’s honestly embarrassing.

3. Favorite character now?

oh it’s absolutely still Reggie. he’s a dumbass but he’s MY dumbass.

4. Favorite ship when you started the show?

honestly i don’t remember actually shipping anyone on my first watch. i mean, obviously Alex and Willie are adorable and i’m STILL SALTY ABOUT THE LACK OF KISSING BETWEEN THEM, but that’s a whole different story.

5. Favorite ship now?

as if this isn’t obvious....... peterpatter my beloved!

6. Favorite song when you started the show?

Wake Up. god i had chills the first time i watched that and tbqh i still get those same chills whenever i listen to it!!!!!

7. Favorite song now?

god i’m the worst bc i haven’t listened to the soundtrack in ages but i do find it really hard to pick a favorite. i will say that i did come around to All Eyes On Me bc i didn’t listen to either of Dirty Candy’s songs for a while when i’d put on the soundtrack (tbh i still don’t listen to Wow bc imo it’s trash)

8. First month you watched JATP?

i was trying to figure this out the other day lmfao i know i didn’t watch it in september because i was getting ready to move and i had zero time to watch anything, and i spent most of october actually moving so at the earliest i probably watched it in late october or early november of 2020. i definitely watched it by the end of november bc i started writing/posting fic then.

9. Favorite thing about the fandom?

the source material lol and also the friends i’ve made but mostly the source material bc as a whole this fandom is toxic as fuck which is SO WILD considering the show and its cast are so pure!!

10. Favorite thing about the show as a whole?

i really like that it’s more about the relationships between all of the characters and less about a specific romance. like, yes, Julie/Luke and Alex/Willie are a large part of the overall storyline, but really it’s about the connection between Julie and these idiot ghost boys and how they bring her back to life just as much as she does for them.

Yuri on Ice Re-Watch and Live Commentary, Episode 11: Gotta Super-Supercharge It!! Grand Prix Final Short Program!

My thoughts, they overflow.

I was NOT expected those faces to show up in the opener. Freaked me out, tbh.

Ok, I suppose that’s a thing in skating…?

Then again, Sarah seems just as confused by that statement.

Also, Mickey, just sit there and be quiet, hm?

Ahh, this is what Victor wants Yuri to remember.

And he’s determined to make his coach proud.

So, Yuri is more comfortable with admitting he wants to win than ever before. JJ leads the field in jumps, but a few tweaks to his routine may give Yuri an advantage.

Well, doesn’t this harken back to ep. 10? Victor said he has faith in whatever Yuri decides. Here’s the follow-through.

Of all the expressions of the fam watching from home, this is my favorite. Hiroko knows what’s coming.

Victor feels Yuri’s disappointment – his frustration at wanting to perform to his utmost capacity – as keenly as Yuri, himself. These are emotions he likely hasn’t had to experience in quite some time. Observe his inner dialogue:

“Dunno. Don’t really care.”

Victor reflects on having been able to surprise everyone when he approached every program like a new beginning.

However, he was running out of new beginnings; lacking in inspiration from a routine existence.

The quote in this cap is telling. Victor was wrong about being able to find new strength on his own.

Yep. Becoming Yuri’s coach has benefited Victor and Yuri, both.

Probably a pep talk on how perfectionism stands in the way of greatness. But that’s just a suggestion.

Yay, we get more of the skaters’ back stories in this next-to-last ep. Phichit has always been adorable.

So… did Celestino move with him to Thailand? Is Phichit his only skater, now?

I love how Phichit draws inspiration from Yuri. Unfortunately, the only thing keeping Yuri from fully acknowledging it is his own sense of self-worth.

Darn, the camera just missed me in the far, far, far upper corner.

Awww, bby! You were great!

As intimidated as he might have by Phichit after his performance, Yuri will always support his bestie.

I mean… really?

And the two parental guardians back there are just going to stand there and let that happen, huh?

Boggles my mind how or why anyone puts up with Yurio’s behavior. But okay, I guess.

LOL @ Mari. Yuri’s Angels has a seat at the table for you.

Nerves. Everyone, except for Victor, it would seem, has them.

Hm… there’s another competition before the Final? But, yay for Guang-Hong taking home another medal!

Guy to Yurio’s right is kind of a snack, too.

This is Lilia speaking. Why Yuri isn’t reflecting on this himself as he skates – like the rest of his competitors do – I’ve no idea.

So, this is an interesting POV from Yakov. Lilia mentions in a voiceover how people shine brightest when they seek to understand what kind of love sustains them. During a section of Yurio’s routine, Yakov can’t help but subconsciously compare him to Victor. This has several implications, IMO: one being that Yakov’s love for Victor was a source of strength for Yakov, himself. Another is that Yakov had never seen Victor shine brighter than when skating. That’s… rather sad, actually, because we know that competing began to eventually drag Victor down.

Yet another implication is that Yurio is the next generation’s Victor. This deserves more elaboration; probably in ep. 12 commentary.

Their faces, here. Just…. LOL. It takes a lot to surprise them but Yurio managed to do it.

These are Yurio’s internal thoughts. Well, that’s not shooting for Agape now, is it?

Meanwhile, Yuri’s been searching for Victor and he finds him… paying attention to someone other than him.

118-decimal-point-something-something is like… the highest score we’ve seen in the show so far, I believe.

Sarah is genuinely Yuri’s friend, whether Yuri thinks so or not, lol.

Chris, the human red light.

Victor’s attention is arrested by the rest of the skaters, which is a blow to Yuri’s self-confidence. What Yuri doesn’t understand is that Victor is so sure of Yuri’s new trust in his decisions that he doesn’t feel the need to constantly reassure him. For perhaps the first time in the series, Victor has taken the time to really appreciate the athletes as a spectator.

However… Yuri is still Yuri, Victor. YOU are a large part of that newfound trust in himself.

However…… it would help if Yuri told Victor that. But, Yuri is still Yuri.

Sigh.

This is Chris’ house(?) I’m assuming it’s an apartment building.

Overconfident much?

Look at Chris’ cat carrier. And the carrier he’s carrying.

You may not have won the Final yet, Chris, but you are the gold medalist of double entendres.

So, Chris outscores Yuri.

Victor is happy for Chris. Yuri is not happy at all.

I really like this music. And Otabek is a very technically skilled skater, having already shared a podium with Victor.

He doesn’t have Yurio’s grace, so he plays to an entirely different set of strengths.

This is Yuri’s observation. And he’s right.

This is the first time Victor’s ever paid attention to Otabek, someone he competed against and who medal-ed just beneath him and Chris. LOL! This is growth for him, actually. However, Yuri (being Yuri) feels inadequate in comparison.

This isn’t pro-wrestling, JJ.

Wait a sec… what’s Otabek doing in JJ’s thoughts? Why, it’s almost as if JJ feels threatened by him. Inneresting.

As opposed to another type of pressure?

Wow, people certainly make lifetime commitments at a young age in this universe. JJ is only 19 or so? Yuko’s only two years older than Yuri. And Yuri himself… well half the series is about him and his soulmate.

This is some spooky imagery, tbqh.

Did y’all drug test JJ before the stepped on the ice?

Folks, I was one of JJ’s girls that day. You can conquer those demons, JJ!

Indeed. Internal battles are the hardest to fight, which Yuri is intimately aware of. Good on him for realizing others struggle just as much as he does.

These are Yuri’s thoughts. Such progress from last season when he was so down on himself for coming in last at the GPF. Yes, Yuri, you managed to make it to the final six TWICE in a row!

Ha! The dude with the flag. He’s the most invested person in that arena.

That’s rough to know what you’re capable of yet not live up to it.

Isabella! I was wrong about flag guy; THIS is the most invested person in the arena. No wonder JJ wanted to marry her within the year.

Unfortunately, Isabella is also an enabler. LOL.

Ha ha, what a cute, jokey moment between the lovers. So sweet. So affectionate.

ok. so. The Princess Bride. i read it yesterday.

and right up front, before even a review, i’m gonna go ahead and list everything objectionable in the book that i can recall. please don’t take the length of the bullet pointed items to follow as an indication that the book was wildly problematic and offended me at every turn; it wasn’t and it didn’t. but there were some things that made me go: 😑 or 😒, and here it all is, presented with context, before anything else, because to be honest, i didn’t expect any of it. the film is relatively spotless, which is pretty rare for that era, and if any of you are thinking of reading it, you could do with being more prepared for this than i was.

first off, racism. two passing remarks. one isn’t even in the story proper; it’s in the first whole long intro bit from the author/narrator. that takes some explanation, i suppose: like in the film, the story is presented as a book having been written by “S. Morganstern,” except instead of a grandfather reading to his sick grandson, the narrator is interjecting with notes on the original text that he has abridged. the beginning is a whole long shpiel that, in my opinion, could have been significantly pared down with absolutely zero loss to the story (which! hey! the film did perfectly! go figure!). anyway, the first racist remark is an absolutely tasteless line in which the narrator pisses and moans about his fat son, making a crack about “painting him yellow” and making him a sumo wrestler. y i k e. the other passing remark is from Miracle Max (really, truly, the film version of this scene is miles better than the book version, but contains an important plot detail, so you should prob still read it, but i’ll give you the lowdown if you wanna skip). he refers to Iñigo as a sp*ck (rather bafflingly, i might add, bc Iñigo is a Spanish man... from Spain... not a Hispanic or Latino man from Latin America. so. i mean i’m certainly not an expert on slurs but... i have never in my life heard that term in reference to a person from Spain, and am virtually certain it was invented to refer to ppl from the americas) and in the same breath uses an objectionable term for a Polish person. sooo... again: y i k e. what gets me is that... these could’ve just been edited out? why weren’t they? i mean i know why but

fat shaming! see above. though to be honest, any true negativity about fatness is restricted to the author/narrator’s interjections; there are a few minor fat characters in the story and those depictions, without being too long-winded or spoilery, didn’t offend me (fyi: i’m fat). if you want the details, please feel free to message me about it.

if we can go back to the whole long beginning shpiel from the author/narrator, it’s just... eh. he comes off as kind of a jackass, tbh. not even halfway through it i found myself more than a little impatient for the story to begin, and that could be at least partly because the film spoiled me with a lovely, not annoying, not problematic scene of Granddad Columbo reading to Baby Fred Savage where no one made any racist remarks or ragged on fat kids. the basic gist, if you want to skip it, is that the author, as a kid, had this book read to HIM by his father, who was a Florinese immigrant, and nearly illiterate in English, but still labored over reading the English translation to his American-born son, who adored the book and requested it read to him dozens and dozens of times over the years, refusing to read it himself (though he read plenty of other books). as an adult, he buys his son the book, and is crushed when the son doesn’t like it. he then reads it for the first time, and realizes his father skipped over huge, boring blocks of text. he read his son only The Good Parts. so he decides to edit that shit out himself and release the abridged version he loves so much. add into that some complaining about his wife and some extra blah blah, and that’s pretty much it.

you remember the scene in the movie where The Man In Black/Westley almost slaps Buttercup for what he believes is lying? in the book he actually slaps her. not that his actions seem supported or endorsed by the text, but still, there you are. Buttercup does push him off a cliff soon after, though, so. i wouldn’t call that ‘even’ exactly but, shrug

Vizzini, in the book, has a fucky leg and his back isn’t quite straight, and he’s referred to repeatedly as a “humpback” or “hunchback” which needless to say is Not Kosher

that, as i recall, is it. i hope i’m not forgetting anything. now onto content/trigger warnings:

alcoholism. this shouldn’t be a surprise if you’ve seen the movie: Iñigo has some, shall we say, issues

Fezzik’s parents were... terrible. CPS would be all over them. spoiler: basically they emotionally blackmailed their son into fighting professionally, which they knew he hated, by telling him they’d abandon him if he didn’t

Buttercup has some kinda messed up (read: unsettling but in no way graphic) nightmares after leaving Westley when they’re found by Prince Humperdinck at the Fire Swamp, mostly involving bearing children to the Prince who she once again is set to marry

the slurs and whatnot i mentioned above

violence, obviously. nothing worse than the film as i recall.

that’s it i think.

okay. all that said. did i enjoy the book? yes i did. a lot.

now, you might be thinking: jesus, Kathleen, after all the shit you just listed? and to this i reply: listen. there is no Unproblematic Media, so you either enjoy some things that are flawed, or you enjoy nothing at all. there is plenty of objectionable shit in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit! fucking plenty! and i love those books! and so do plenty of other people! in my own humble opinion, the good story is worth the shitty bits, because the shitty bits aren’t like, fundamental to the plotline. the story isn’t built on offensive humor or nasty, bigoted attitudes. and they’re also not the most egregious examples of Objectionable Content i’ve come across- not by a longshot. there are levels to offense. there are tiers of bullshit. this is on a far lower tier than a whole host of other things i could mention. but if any of this stuff i’ve listed crosses a line for you, i totally understand and respect that. that’s why i’ve bothered to list it at all. imo, how you respond to objectionable content is important: you don’t ignore it or excuse it, you acknowledge and criticize it. and if you still enjoy whatever the thing is, you allow yourself to enjoy it, without getting hissy or defensive with people for whom the objectionable content ruined the book/movie/whatever.

there you go, there’s my disclaimer for having enjoyed the book. your mileage may vary.

okay. so. review time.

Buttercup is a far more interesting character in the book than the movie, for which the movie can’t be faulted all that much, because you can’t easily translate a character’s inner monologue/unspoken thoughts to the screen, especially not with the time limit that comes with the medium of film. but watching her struggle with her feelings and life choices (and... lack thereof, since her choice is between marrying the prince and being put to death, which isn’t much of a choice, even if she tries to reason it out later by telling herself she COULD have said no... and initially did) creates far more of a bond between her and the reader in the book than, personally, i felt watching the movie. also she has a great line after Westley calls her beautiful at their reunion- she says something like, ‘everyone’s always calling me beautiful, i have a mind too, why don’t you talk about that’

Both Westley and Buttercup are immature, naive, and foolish in the beginning, and if Westley strikes you as Extra Dickish, a) rewatch the film! he did act like a bit of a dick, there, didn’t he? b) remember that in the story he’s a young man between the ages of eighteen and twenty five, which in my considerable experience is the age at which young men are generally at their peak of Asshole. sorry dudes

and not that Buttercup herself is a complete peach! she deals very poorly with her emotions in general and acts kinda shitty herself once or twice. i won’t say too much lest i spoil everything that’s different between the film and the book.

Prince Humperdinck is also a more three dimensional character; still a rat bastard tho.

onto Fezzik and Iñigo.

as i have said in other blog posts, these boys are... pretty much the whole reason i sought out the book. and... jesus.

you get all the way into the tragic backstories that were only hinted at in the film. okay, Iñigo’s backstory was more than hinted- but of course you go so much deeper in the book- and Fezzik’s was less than hinted, reduced mostly to a peek at the insecurity that Vizzini exploits and preys upon to keep him in line. not that you’d have to expend a great effort to him to keep him in line; his personality is docile and non-confrontational. truly not the slightest bit aggressive by nature. he’s also kinda clingy and needy, which is a thousand percent understandable given his childhood, and tbqh doesn’t need to be browbeaten for Vizzini to keep him on his short, cruel leash. which makes it all the more painful! hurrah! 😭

also you actually get to meet Iñigo’s father, Domingo Montoya, in a flashback, aaaand... i kinda love him. probably predictable if you know me.

anyway. tragic backstories. which further illuminate the emotional and psychological issues that make them so dependent on Vizzini, and turn them to lives of crime in his employ. poor boys! oy gevalt. sympathy abounds; i honestly don’t know how you could go through the book and not fall at least a little bit in love with this duo, whose friendship is precious and adorable and a balm to the soul that is aching from their painful life stories and unhealthy coping mechanisms. they’re each, very plainly, the only friend the other has in the world, and are constantly helping and bolstering one another. it’s heartbreakingly sweet. i think those boys will be alright as long as they stick together.

and now, the repeated theme of the book, that is presented with far less intensity in the film: life isn’t fair. which, one supposes, is true. but while the narrator’s framing of that assertion may give you the same misgivings they gave me- bitching about his fat son and his less than ideal relationship with his wife- you can also step back and appreciate it as a wee pearl of wisdom. life is often unfair, but that doesn’t mean it’s altogether bad or that you can’t enjoy it. idk, that’s my attitude, man.

i could talk about the ending here, but i won’t. at least not too much. not to spoiler-ish-ly. if you don’t want to know anything about the book’s ending at all, feel free to not read the last bit here, except for the very last lines which are bolded.

the ending to the book is different than the movie. there is a more philosophical, open ended conclusion than you could really get away with in a movie. at least this movie.

just throwing it out there: i believe in happy endings. ones in real life. but i kind of disagree with the author a little bit, in that i don’t think happy endings necessarily have to be perfect and unblemished to qualify as happy endings. that may be the way “happily ever after” is generally presented, but to me, “happily ever after” means, maybe some shit happened, but none of it was completely devastating, and in the final analysis, life was satisfying. that’s the kind of real life happy ending i’m aiming (and hoping) for. this might sound vague but i hope it’ll make sense if you read the book.

What are some of your favorite robron moments? Also your favorite robron kiss?

Thank you for this lovely question anon!!!! 😍 Okay so. I spent quite a lot of time thinking about this tbh. This is in no particular order because I am not very organised, here we go:

1. So like!!!! The scene where Robert is a cocky little fuck before the affair starts. Like, thinking Aaron is lusting after his soon-to-be-wife, when really Aaron is probably lusting after HIM. In that moment there’s so much tension between them and!!! The affair hasn’t even started yet!!! Also the look on Robert’s face as Aaron starts to walk away and there’s like a fawning realisation of ‘oh. I’m into that.’ alsjhdjdjdks. And “I’ll remember that for when I stop being gay, eh?” ICONIC.

2. SSW. ALL OF IT. No, but like obviously the underwater car scene just GETS me every. single. time. The actual DESPERATION IN THEIR VOICES. FEAR. PANIC. So so SO so much love between them. How Robert stays calm because he knows in that moment Aaron need an anchor to latch onto. Gaaaaah.

3. Reunion 2.0… the conversation about the bisexual contract. I just adore that scene tbh, it’s such sad-flirting and aksjfkfldjfj. They want to be together but they CAN’T BUT THEY WANT TO. AARON WANTS IT SO BAD IN THAT MOMENT. Also Aaron’s speech because, well it killed me off tbqh. Everything I’ve been waiting for Aaron to say for a long long long time.

4. REUNION 1.0. My love, my life. Honestly I adore this whole storyline but I’ll give you two moments: first, the scene when they’re outside at night and Robert’s all ‘I’ll wait for ya” and Aaron’s face just. LIFTS. Like in the moment he’s so hopeful and nervous and everything all at once and I remember watching that scene and everyone just going absolutely fucking ballistic with excitement because we couldn’t BELIEVE. Robert was saying these things. And the second one is the actual kiss in the backroom of the pub because it’s so soft. Tender. But also desperate because it’s like Robert just can’t HELP himself in that moment!!!! Beautiful.

5. Also because I love PAIN and ANGST: 24th September 2015. Robert lying to Aaron about there being other men because he was so distraught. Keeping Aaron’s name out of everything because despite denying it, he is actually IN LOVE WITH AARON. The juxtaposition of the scene: Robert being a nasty, spiteful bastard but really, deep down, just wanting Aaron’s gratitude, acceptance and for him to tell Robert that everything is going to be alright. But he won’t, do robert does what he walkways used to do in that situation - he attacks instead. (Also they both look fit af in that scene imo so. Bonus.)

I am an fair era gal to my core, so let’s get some of that in here. SO:

1. “I thought you were done with me?” “I can change my mind can’t I?” And “So, are you going home?” “No.” AND THE KISS AFTER. GIVES ME TINGLES EVERY TIME TBH I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Just so soft and it feels like one of the first times Robert is being properly sincere which is. EVERYTHING TO ME.

2. “You’ll make me think I feel for a quitter.” alsjdjfkskdjfj !!!!!!!!! ENOUGH SAID. HE FELL FOR HIM SO EARLY ON.

3. “I’d stop talking now. If you still want my investment.” FUUUUUCK. 26th December 2015 was a good day. Robert literally did not give a fuck about his own family on CHRISTMAS to be with the future love of his life. Iconic. AND THIS KISS AFTER THIS DOES SOMETHING TO ME TBH. I JUST LOVE IT SO MUCH.

4. “I love ya. I love you and I can’t wait you suffer.” Pain pain PAIN and I love itttttttt.

5. The lodge. Just. ALL OF IT. It’s so unreal that that even happened tbh but that’s part of the reason why I love it. “Falling for you ruined everything,” I just DIE. Almost like Aaron did ;) ;) ;)

However, my all time favourite kiss is probably the one in the hospital after SSW. When Robert bends down and kisses Aaron so so softly, telling him he wants to be with him forever and just pouring all of his love out right there and then. I never thought we’d get to that day in the beginning tbh, and that’s probably one of the reasons I love it so much! Just the whole scene 👏🏼

There’s definitely more I’ve missed out but this is what I can think of right now!!! Thank you again 🧡

hello my name is *yells about Furuba*

I dunno what I’m doing but I have Feelings so let me rant about them, by me.

Some of y'all may not know that Fruits Basket is my favorite series on the planet– well you do now. That comes with a caveat of favorite manga, not favorite anime (that honor goes to either Noragami or Chihayafuru, with Madoka Magica as an honorable mention). I do also love the anime dearly! But comparing them is like apples and oranges, horses of different colors, etc etc, not least because the anime was made before the manga was barely halfway through. futile hope springs eternal for a full remake. So most of my feels rant will be manga-centric although the general feels apply to the anime, and uh there may be spoilers idk it’s been out for a long time???

The first volume came out in the US five days after my *deep breath* 15th birthday. I got it for the next year’s bday present from my big sis, aaaand that was when the gates of otaku/manga hell swallowed me up (I was somehow unaware that Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh were also Japanese pop culture, go figure.) I have no memory of how I found the anime– my anime-bittorrent-whateverthefuck knowledge was nonexistent but I don’t think it was airing live. I got the box set for some Christmas but that would’ve been after I was a massive fan so *shrug*

Anyway I watched the dub first and holy hell if I wasn’t planning to marry Yuki Sohma before then I definitely was after that, thanks Eric Vale. (I still have huge love for the dub cast fight me). Yun-chan was my first 2D crush and tbqh I’m still in love with him. Also I stg he’s the whole reason why pretty boys are a Big Thing of mine. And wait omg Shigure’s first appearance?! hmmm, i think a soulmate au would be fun!! im not rly a fan of soulmate aus where they fall in love BECAUSE theyre soulmates, but the concept of like, having a connection to someone you might not have known otherwise, that’s one i really wanna play with. also platonic soulmates ftw.

and subversions of soulmate tropes, that’s actually what i’m getting at here, i want creativity within soulmate aus instead of just “you fall in love with The One bc Reasons™”, bc tbh i think there is no such thing as The One?? in various circumstances different ppl could be happy with each other imo and i think that’s a cool dynamic and i wanna explore it!

i know this is from an older fic, but i honestly was really trying to work on the imagery in my writing, and i think i did a fair job of capturing what i was going for, which was a storm (lol) of quick thoughts flashing through kal’s head here? idk, i just liked how that description came out, haha.

April 19: Thoughts on 1x11 We Are Grounders Pt 1

It’s late, I’m all upside down, and I just reread some of my old meta so I’m thinking about how Smart I am and also how bitter I am about this show. So here’s more of my rewatch!

Today’s episode, We Are Grounders Part One

I wonder if Jaha was so quick to throw up his hands and walk away from the DNR group in S4 because, especially prior to what was basically a religious conversion, he has a similarly strong death instinct himself. I’m not saying he didn’t do everything he could in favor of survival many times, but honestly how many other times has he been like ‘well, okay, tried everything, time to die’? Like compared to other characters? I’m not saying he actively wants to die so much as that he is more comforted than the average bear by the possibility of a ‘good death.’ (Also I think this has a lot to do with having lost his son tbqh.)

Note to self: someone I’m assuming is a station rep referred to her constituents.

An incredibly bleak but fitting ending for this show would have been to kill the Ark in S1 and then to have the delinquents and grounders kill each other in an escalating S2 war. It would have fulfilled certain foreshadowings/themes of the first season (all the war escalation stuff, the nuclear-age throwbacks) and it also would have been an appropriate ending for all these truly terrible, morally rotten people.

Literally Jaha v. Kane is Jasper v. everyone else (or at least, like, Clarke and Monty) in S4. Truly this show ran out of original ideas after 2 seasons, see again my previous point lol.

Speaking of Jasper there is my angular boy.

There is nothing about the delinquent camp I don’t like. Raven in like a council-level position, ish, Bellamy’s speeches and blatant emotion, everyone’s outfits.

I completely forgot Tristan existed.

I also forgot how many fake out main character deaths this show used to do. Abby, Finn. Can’t get away with that 4 seasons in. The audience knows anyone important is getting a real death scene.

Omg Bellamy has a whole like war plan with little figures and stuff.

Bellamy has this reputation for being all emotion and I think that’s him at heart but ignoring Clarke, Monty, and Finn’s disappearance is a logic-based decision. A sort of...overcompensatory logic-based decision. Also not in line with the show’s morality, like, at all. Hence why he drops it later.

Yet again impressed by how Jasper managed to change more than any other character over 4 seasons while still remaining IC. Even young and comparatively innocent he could be snarky and sarcastic and he also was honest and straightforward in his confrontation with Bellamy, and he kept on being all of those things later, but with bitterness and bite.

Murphy (having just obviously suffocated a boy): He stopped breathing. I was trying to help him. Jasper (nodding slowly): Yep, sounds about right, totally legit, lots of evidence that that is what went down. Yep.

Also I’m like 99% this ep is basically their last canon interaction so btw this was the end of what is absolutely, canonically (see the pilot and the Pike-class flashback) a same-station-forged friendship. And probably also explains why Murphy’s reaction to Jasper’s death was like ‘Jasper who???’ though that doesn’t make it any less an unforgivable sin.

There’s nothing not perfect about this scene overall, but the most perfect thing is “Tell Bellamy what?” coming from Jasper’s pocket. I love both that he tried to be sneaky and the comedic value of it.

TWO HEADED HORSE TWO HEADED HORSE TWO HEADED HORSE.

Lincoln was criminally underused. He not only saved Finn and Clarke, he “killed one of his own people to do it.” This isn’t about Octavia. He’s just been looking for an excuse to rebel his whole life.

Jackson’s being so lovely and supportive and Abby’s still calling him by his last name. Knowing this show they probably forgot it was his last name.

Today’s reminder that Octavia likes literally 4 people in the universe lol. And one of them was Jasper. Until the show forgot about that too but whatever not bitter.

RE: Raven getting in under the floor. I’m thinking about my fic and my work around for opening the dropship from the outside and okay on the one hand if such a device existed, Raven would probably know about it as much as Monty but on the other hand, there has to be a way to close the dropship from the outside, because it’s closed in S3 and there’s no one in it. So logically it should open from the outside too, without recourse to loose panels and stuff. So maybe I was a little, like, short-cut-y in my solution but the show is not consistent so we’re even. (We’re not even but I’m self-conscious now.)

Bellamy talking on the walkie with Murphy might honestly be the most beautiful he’s ever been.

Legit question: who do the Grounders battle? They have this coalition, with like Ambassadors and shit. Which doesn’t mean they can’t battle each other but there’s also some diplomacy going on, like, clearly. Which should make battling less necessary, one would think. And even if they do battle each other, over fucking what??? Land? Literally never seen solid evidence that land boundaries matter to them. Shits and giggles? Bragging rights? They have an enemy in Mount Weather but Lincoln sure as shit wasn’t fighting battles against them.

T100 drinking game: take a shot any time says ‘cauterize the wound. Take two if they actually cauterize a wound.

“We lost Clarke, we can’t lose Bellamy too” is probably the first indication literally anywhere in the show that anyone acknowledges Clarke as an delinquent leader.

I miss the Raven + Jasper dream team. Tbh Raven has so few people who can appreciate her professionally. It’s literally Monty, Wick for a hot second, and Jasper (even though his skills aren’t the same as hers, they fit with hers nicely).

I miss my alternate universe where Jasper lives but becomes pacifistic in nature, where he abandons this ‘give me something to shoot through’ attitude and eschews the use of weaponry entirely.

I don’t think this show is 40% as badass or sick as it makes itself out to be but every now and then it lives up to that ideal. I mean this extended psychological torture sequence in which Murphy makes Bellamy hang himself is super fucked up.

The young Jaha and Griffin families were adorable.

“If you were never [in the tunnels] how did you map [them]?” / “Spoils of war.” I realize this is probably just quick plot-hole filling but nevertheless I sense a story here.

The Reapers were also a sick and twisted invention of this show. I feel like in S2 it was pretty clear that the Reapers were given dead bodies to feed on, so either I’m wrong/the Mount Weatherians were more efficient in their use of their limited resource of Sky People bodies versus Grounder bodies/the show has bad continuity/that living dude in the cart is an outlier/some combo of the above.

“The Eastern Sea” lol. The Chesapeake probably.

I never cared for Luna but she could have been cool and also she and Lincoln are ex’s pry this headcanon from my cold, dead hands.

I’m pretty sure Finn pounding in the Reaper’s head was his first kill. Would his S2 story be possible without that moment?

“They look up to you. Almost as much as they look up to Clarke.” Okay I’m sorry, this is just textually, canonically wrong. This is the show retconning Clarke’s position as a leader. And it’s so unnecessary! Her story line works better if she isn’t positioned as the main delinquent leader, imo. Like, lines like that are outliers that don’t make sense within the universe; they’re obviously outwardly pointed: here audience, Clarke is protag 1 and Bellamy is protag 2 and she’s the REAL leader, don’t forget that order! If you do, you might occasionally question her leadership credentials later, when we lazily write everyone just following her regardless of their actual interactions with her or the most recent developments of her storyline! (Not that I think they were already setting up the laziness of S4 this early, but I do think they were tipping the hand of their own biases and their inability to tell the difference between what’s going on in-universe and what the audience sees and understands.)

On the other hand “Well I think the princess is dead, but I know the king’s about to die, so who’s really going to lead these people, huh?” is a good line and I do like positioning Bellamy as king (of these people specifically) versus Clarke as a princess (of the Ark--an old position based on a class background that is irrelevant to their current society).

Lol @ Murphy’s plans being delinquent-domination though. Like that was going to happen.

Actually I think Finn’s S2 story line is created in the moment when he washes the blood off his hands: he’s killed, which changed him, and Clarke comforts him in that critical moment, and he comes to associate her with that event and its aftermath. He also says “I should have fought for you,” which I see as this...hard to describe but like...the creation of a devotion beyond what he’s so far felt. Not that he loves her more but that he’s convinced himself he loves her more, that she can save him in some way, that she is necessary to him. He has a lot of idealistic notions and I think this narrative gets created within him with Clarke at its center and everything else gets blurred out. Or something.

This Jasper and Bellamy scene is the best because it combines two things I love: Jasper’s hero-worship crush on Bellamy, and Jasper’s intense devotion to Monty. I’m a little sorry that Clarke and Finn’s return/these loser Grounders robbed us of a Bellamy and Jasper rescue mission though.

I guess it’s possible Bellamy said “Whatever the hell we want” all the time but really I think it was just the one time and the writers have already forgotten that Jasper never heard him say it omg sometimes I just want to knock their heads together their memories are such shit. (Yes I’m also bitter about Jasper’s pilot outfit returning out of nowhere in S4 and Clarke wearing his intact goggles in S5 even though he already smashed the plastic out of the lenses sometime in S3.)

Poor Jasper. He thinks Monty’s come back with them. He barely even has time to process that disappointment before they start debating whether or not they should leave.

Basically I have a lot of Jasper feelings.

Bellamy’s speech is better than Clarke’s. Come on Griffin, never start with ‘my opponent is right’ that’s a bad rhetorical move. I also find it intensely unrealistic that they’re all like ‘yes, Clarke, we will do what you say!’ when, I cannot emphasize this enough, she has literally never led them before. All of her leader decisions have been strictly BTS. Her only real advantage here is that they know they have no gunpowder and few other resources, so it’s probably just a straight up fear-flight.

“Crowds make bad decisions. Leaders do what they think is right.” I mean basically the theme of the show there lol.

I’m going to rant about this next time I watch but just gonna say here that Clarke is definitely, unequivocally, ultimately wrong in this and Bellamy was right. They should have stayed. People literally died because Clarke tried to take them out when she shouldn’t have.

The camp doesn’t look like I expect or picture in my head...where are their tents? How much land did they claim?

I remember watching this the first time and thinking Jaha’s plan to get them to the ground on the Ark itself was the outright coolest thing I’d ever see and you know what? It holds up. I stand by it.
