It was so great to catch up with friends @rastiguej and @longhurstscott. Monday we toured the lake on the golf cart. Tuesday we climbed Crab Eyes at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Wednesday took the Seadoos around the lake and stopped at every beach. Oklahoma 2-10-9

It’s been two weeks since my last day of work. That pretty much matches the longest vacation I’ve had in over 25 years. It’s the longest I’ve gone without working since Dennis died over 16 years ago. It feels weird. If I’m traveling, it’s normally the time I’m itching to go home.

10 days ago we left home to set out on a country-wide tour. We’ve stayed overnight and in 9 different states so far. Before last week, I’d never been camping, then I sold my house, gave away my stuff, bought a van, and quit my job to basically camp full time. I guess you could say I’m still an all or nothing kind of girl.

I haven’t worn makeup in almost two weeks. I don’t really miss it. Showers have been sporadic and not necessarily luxurious. I do miss those! I’ve finally figured out how to treat food as fuel. Limited selection, small budget, and long lead time for cooking - along with the goal of trying to do this all in a healthy way (i.e. little processed food).

Bailey has been a rockstar. He sits stoically in his seat, belted in for hours sometimes, without complaint. He celebrates each stop and walking opportunity like the best adventure he’s ever had, sniffing new things and exploring every bit of his new surroundings. He makes friends as he goes. He sleeps hard. I’m taking lessons.

A hike to the top of Elk Mountain Trail offers spectacular views and a rewarding glimpse of the valley. The refuge has 15 miles of designated hiking trails that wind along rocky stretches, scrub oak forest and over grass prairie. Wildlife abounds along these trails.
