Fena: Pirate Princess A friend of mine recommended this one to me, and since it was only 12 episodes long I gave it a shot! A cute story, pretty visuals and a gallery of nice characters. I liked the story and I kinda wish there were more episodes. We'll see what the future holds. A good watch though! Title: Pirate Princess / Kaizoku Oujo Director: Kazuto Nakazawa, Tetsuya Takahashi, Saki Fujii Watched language: Japanese Genre: Action, adventure, fantasy Studio: Production I.G Episodes: 12 Release year: 2021 Synopsis: Fena: Pirate Princess tells the tale of a young orphan girl, Fena Houtman, living in a fantastic alternate history version of the 18th century. Fena has been raised on an island where there is no hope of escaping the dark destiny forced upon her by her captors, to be used and discarded by the soldiers of the British Empire. But Fena is more than just another powerless orphan. When her mysterious past comes knocking, Fena will break the chains of her oppressors. Her goal: escape her captors, forge a new identity, and search for a place where she can truly belong and find out the true mystery behind the keyword: "Eden." It's the story of the adventure of a lifetime she and her crew of misfits and unlikely allies will have, in pursuit of her goals!

Horimiya I've been wanting to watch a decent Horimiya anime for aages. I read the manga a long time ago, and ever since I’ve been wanting an anime. And I was so stoked when the OVA’s came out several years ago, but the happiness was quite short. I didn’t like the style very much, neither the fact that there were very few episodes. But now ladies and gentlemen! They actually made something great! The story is true to the mange (as I can remember), the character gallery is a fun mix, and the overall art style is so pretty. Even though I always knew what would happen it still gave me this good, warm feeling as the story went on. I really enjoyed this with a huge smile on my face. 10/10 will watch again. Title: Horimiya / Hori-san and Miyamura-kun Director: Masashi Ishihama Watched language: Japanese Genre: Comedy, romance, slice of life Studio: CloverWorks Episodes: 13 Release year: 2021 Synopsis: On the surface, the thought of Kyouko Hori and Izumi Miyamura getting along would be the last thing in people's minds. After all, Hori has a perfect combination of beauty and brains, while Miyamura appears meek and distant to his fellow classmates. However, a fateful meeting between the two lays both of their hidden selves bare. Even though she is popular at school, Hori has little time to socialize with her friends due to housework. On the other hand, Miyamura lives under the noses of his peers, his body bearing secret tattoos and piercings that make him look like a gentle delinquent. Having opposite personalities yet sharing odd similarities, the two quickly become friends and often spend time together in Hori's home. As they both emerge from their shells, they share with each other a side of themselves concealed from the outside world.

Orange  I’ve wanted to watch this for a while, but never had the urge to go and do it. Until now. Since it’s only 13 episodes it goes by pretty fast, yet the story fits perfectly. The sci-fi in the middle of it all is a little weird, but it’s not too bad or out of place. I like the style of this and I guess that’s why I was drawn to it, and the six main characters are a good match for each other. While watching it the mood could change from happy to sad and back again, but it’s still a good one.  Title: Orange Director: Hiroshi Hamasaki / Naomi Nakayama Watched language: Japanese Genre: Drama, romance, sci-fi, shounen, slice of life Studio: Telecom Animation Film Episodes: 13 Release year: 2016 Synopsis: Naho Takamiya's first day of her sophomore year of high school is off to an uneasy start. After waking up late, she receives a strange letter addressed to her. However, the letter is from herself—10 years in the future! At first, Naho is skeptical of the note; yet, after witnessing several events described to take place, she realizes the letter really is from her 26-year-old self. The note details that Naho's future life is filled with regrets, and she hopes that her younger self can correct the mistakes that were made in the past. The letter also warns her to keep a close eye on the new transfer student, Kakeru Naruse. Naho must be especially careful in making decisions involving him, as Kakeru is not around in the future. With the letter as her guide, Naho now has the power to protect Kakeru before she comes to regret it once more.

Konosuba A friend recommended this to us so we just had to check it out. And it's hilarious. There's quite a few animes with people going to a different world, but the comedy in this gives a great laugh. The character gallery is quite colorful and it's just fun. Title: Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! / God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! Director: Kanyasaki Takaomi Watched language: Japanese Genre: Adventure, comedy, fantasy, supernatural Studio: Studio Deen Episodes: 20 episodes 01: Konosuba (10 episodes) 02: Konosuba 2 (10 episodes) Seasons: 2 Release year: 2016 / 2017 Synopsis: After dying a laughable and pathetic death on his way back from buying a game, high school student and recluse Kazuma Satou finds himself sitting before a beautiful but obnoxious goddess named Aqua. She provides the NEET with two options: continue on to heaven or reincarnate in every gamer's dream—a real fantasy world! Choosing to start a new life, Kazuma is quickly tasked with defeating a Demon King who is terrorizing villages. But before he goes, he can choose one item of any kind to aid him in his quest, and the future hero selects Aqua. But Kazuma has made a grave mistake—Aqua is completely useless! Unfortunately, their troubles don't end here; it turns out that living in such a world is far different from how it plays out in a game. Instead of going on a thrilling adventure, the duo must first work to pay for their living expenses. Indeed, their misfortunes have only just begun!

Zankyou no Terror I’ve had this in my “plan to watch list” for soo long! And since my boyfriend strongly recommended this to me, I decided to check it out! And almost four hours later I’m done.. All those feels. It’s only 11 episodes, but they get so much out of it! The characters are so mysterious and the plot even more so. The music suits the anime really well and I really want more, even though the ending was good.  Title: Zankyou no Terror / Terror in Resonance  Director: Shinichirō Watanabe Watched language: Japanese  Genre: Detective, mystery, thriller  Studio: MAPPA Episodes: 11  Release year: 2014 Synopsis:  Painted in red, the word "VON" is all that is left behind after a terrorist attack on a nuclear facility in Japan. The government is shattered by their inability to act, and the police are left frantically searching for ways to crack down the perpetrators. The public are clueless—until, six months later, a strange video makes its way onto the internet. In it, two teenage boys who identify themselves only as "Sphinx" directly challenge the police, threatening to cause destruction and mayhem across Tokyo. Unable to stop the mass panic quickly spreading through the city and desperate for any leads in their investigation, the police struggle to act effectively against these terrorists, with Detective Kenjirou Shibazaki caught in the middle of it all.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun Well, this didn’t take long to binge! This is right up my alley, both when it comes to the style, story, and not to mention the humor. The wide range of characters and different characteristics are a good match, and there’s never room for a dull moment. It’s only 12 episodes long, and that is kind of perfect, though this time I actually wished for a few more episodes. Then again, they’ve made a good anime if you want more, right? I’m so gonna watch this again sooner or later!  Title: Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun / Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun  Director: Mitsue Yamazaki Watched language: Japanese  Genre: Romantic comedy Episodes: 12 + 6 specials  Release year: 2014 Synopsis:  Chiyo Sakura is a cheerful high school girl who has fallen head over heels for the oblivious Umetarou Nozaki. Much to Chiyo's confusion, when she confesses to her beloved Nozaki, he hands her an unfamiliar autograph. As it turns out, the stoic teenage boy is actually a respected shoujo mangaka, publishing under the pen name Sakiko Yumeno! A series of misunderstandings leads to Chiyo becoming one of Nozaki's manga assistants. Throughout the hilarious events that ensue, she befriends many of her quirky schoolmates, including her seemingly shameless fellow assistant, Mikoto Mikoshiba, and the "Prince of the School," Yuu Kashima. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun follows Chiyo as she strives to help Nozaki with his manga and hopes that he will eventually notice her feelings.

Karin Well.. I started watching this about Halloween two years ago. I read the manga many years ago and I liked it a lot, so I finally decided to watch the anime. But it wasn’t my cup of tea, and I guess too many years have passed since then. You can really tell when this was made (early 2000) and the animation style is not what I like the most, but hey, all over the show isn’t that bad. The story is okay, and they also got the most important things from the manga. Though I’m glad I’ve finished the anime it wasn’t a complete waste of time.  Title: Karin / Chibi Vampire  Director: Shinichiro Kimura  Watched language: Japanese  Genre: Comedy, drama, romance, vampire Episodes: 24  Release year: 2005 Synopsis:  Vampires - supernatural beings that feed on the life essence of the unsuspecting at night—have been around for centuries. However, high schooler Karin Maaka is unusual, even among her own kind. Unlike her vampire family, ever since she was a child, Karin has suffered from polycythemia: a rare disorder which causes her to periodically produce excessive amounts of blood. And the more blood she produces, the more anemic and lightheaded she gets, ultimately leading to frequent nosebleeds.

Naruto Shippūden Finally. 10 years and 500 episodes later an era is over. Luckily I didn’t begin to watch this series in 2007. I like to binge watch things and this has been one of my biggest “come back to” series so far. Like “I have an exam, now’s a good time to watch 60 episodes of Naruto!”, yeah, that actually happened.. Though there were a lot(!) of boring fillers at times, the main story was great, and the fun part of it, as I just read somewhere, is that the story and the main characters goes both darker and more mature as the story goes on. And they do so together with the audience who’s been following them from the very beginning. If you have been watching from 2002 (like a true fan) you have joined the whole journey from kids to adults and all the ups and downs on the road. I’ve had so many good memories through this, and I don’t know if I’m more sad or happy about they finally reaching a conclusion.  I would definitely recommend you to check out the Naruto series. Not only because it’s a must check out anime, that’s how I started, but also because it’s a long and great story about friendship as much as a coming of age story. If you watch all of it you will get close to the characters and you will want to know their stories in the end. I’m quite sure I will get back to this series after some years, but until then maybe I’ll check out Boruto? Who knows.  Title: Naruto SHippūden / Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles Director: Hayato Date, Masa'aki Kumagai and Yasuaki Kurotsu  Watched language: Japanese Genre: Action, comedy, ninja, super power, shounen Episodes: 500 + +  Seasons: 22 (according to my series guide)    + a lot of specials / OVA’s etc    + 7 movies (8 if you include the Boruto: Naruto the movie) Release year: 2007  Synopsis:  It has been two and a half years since Naruto Uzumaki left Konohagakure, the Hidden Leaf Village, for intense training following events which fueled his desire to be stronger. Now Akatsuki, the mysterious organization of elite rogue ninja, is closing in on their grand plan which may threaten the safety of the entire shinobi world. Although Naruto is older and sinister events loom on the horizon, he has changed little in personality—still rambunctious and childish—though he is now far more confident and possesses an even greater determination to protect his friends and home. Come whatever may, Naruto will carry on with the fight for what is important to him, even at the expense of his own body, in the continuation of the saga about the boy who wishes to become Hokage.

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar I saw the trailer and I liked what I saw. Simple as that, really. I’ve seen my fair share of A-1 Picture productions (Black Butler, Sword Art Online, Working!, AnoHana and the list goes on), so I kinda new I would enjoy it. It’s too bad there’s only 12 episodes because the story had a lot more potentional, but I like how they made the ending. I want more of the show, but I don’t necessarily need more.  Title: Hai to Gensou no Grimgar / Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash Director: Ryosuke Nakamura Watched language: Japanese Genre: Action, adventure, drama and fantasy Episodes: 12 + 1 OVA Release year: 2016 Synopsis: Awaken... This is the only thing the youth of Hai to Gensou no Grimgar remember before awakening in an unknown building in a medieval landscape enshrouded in darkness. They don't remember anything besides their own names. What's stranger is that sometimes they catch themselves saying words that they don't understand, even though they seem so familiar. The group of strangers is told that in order to make a living, they would have to join the Reserve Army forces to keep the town safe from nearby monsters. The stronger looking people form a team to join the Reserve Army and depart, leaving Manato, Haruhiro, Ranta, Yume, Mogzo, and Shihoru to fend for themselves. But how will they get by if they can't even defeat the weakest of monsters? Born from the ashes of their old memories, the ragtag team of six start a new life in the world of Grimgar.

Food Wars!  I really don’t know what to say, really (insert laughing face). I saw gifs of this everywhere, and I really liked the art style, and it was good looking food, so yeah! I had to check it out. Awesome and interesting characters, a funny story and thrilling contests. Everything that I like. The only thing I found not so funny all the time was all the ‘foodgasms’ (if you have seen it, you’ll know what I mean). They are fun the first couple of times, but then I just find them stupid / a bit over the top, but hey. They kind of makes the show even more charming. I really enjoyed this, and, as far as I know there will be a season 3 possibly in 2017, so I’m looking forward to it!  Title: Food Wars! / Shokugeki no Souma  Director: Yoshitomo Yonetani Watched language: Japanese  Genre: Comedy, ecchi, food, school, slice of life Episodes: 86 + 4 OVA    Food Wars! Shokugeki no Souma: 24 episodes    Food Wars! Shokugeki no Souma: the Second Plate: 13 episodes     Food Wars! Shokugeki no Souma: the Third Plate: 12 + 12 episodes      Food Wars! Shokugeki no Souma: the Fourth Plate: 12 episodes    Food Wars! Shokugeki no Souma: the Fifth Plate: 13 episodes  Release year: 2015 / 2016 / 2017 / 2018 / 2019 / 2020 Synopsis:  Ever since he was a child, fifteen-year-old Souma Yukihira has helped his father by working as the sous chef in the restaurant his father runs and owns. His dream is to someday own his family's restaurant as its head chef.Yet when his father suddenly decides to close the restaurant to test his cooking abilities in restaurants around the world, he sends Souma to Tootsuki Culinary Academy, an elite cooking school where only 10 percent of the students graduate. The institution is famous for its "Shokugeki" or "food wars," where students face off in intense, high-stakes cooking showdowns. As Souma and his new schoolmates struggle to survive the extreme lifestyle of Tootsuki, more and greater challenges await him, putting his years of learning under his father to the test.

Fractale Hmm. This was okay, nothing more, nothing less. Just plain okay. The story didn’t catch me as much as I wanted to and even though 11 episodes isn’t that much I felt it took quite some time to get through. I do like the Fractale scheme, so much they could have done with a made up city! But not this time, at least not for me. Other than that, an okay science fiction I guess?  Title: Fractale Director: Yutaka Yamamoto Watched language: Japanese Genre: Adventure, fantasy, science fiction Studio: A-1 Pictures Episodes: 11  Release year: 2011 Synopsis:  The story takes place on an island, where a "Fractale System" is beginning to collapse. One day, Clain finds an injured girl called Phryne under a cliff. She disappears leaving a pendant. Clain sets out for a journey with the girl-shaped avatar Nessa to look for Phryne and discovers the secret of the Fractale System.

Death Parade I’ve wanted to watch this for a while, it’s Madhouse studio who’s behind it and they have some of my favorite animes. Like Death Note, Nana, Paradise Kiss, Tokyo Godfathers, Wolf Children and Chihayafuru, to mention a few! The art style is pretty nice, the music suits the show perfectly, and the story, God the story. It may sound kind of weird, with the arbiters deciding your fate for the afterlife, but as you watch the story and smaller stories really get to you. Good or bad, there may be more to people than you think. The two last episodes were so worth it! And it’s a short story as well!  Title: Death Parade / Desu Parēdo Director:  Yuzuru Tachikawa  Watched language: Japanese Genre: Drama, mystery, psychological thriller Studio: Madhouse Episodes: 12 Release year: 2015 Synopsis:  After death, there is no heaven or hell, only a bar that stands between reincarnation and oblivion. There the attendant will, one after another, challenge pairs of the recently deceased to a random game in which their fate of either ascending into reincarnation or falling into the void will be wagered. Whether it's bowling, darts, air hockey, or anything in between, each person's true nature will be revealed in a ghastly parade of death and memories, dancing to the whims of the bar's master. Welcome to Quindecim, where Decim, arbiter of the afterlife, awaits!

Peach Girl  This took me forever to finish! I watched the 10 first episodes and found it really annoying.. So it’s probably a year or so since I paused it. And now I’ve just binged the rest because I hate to leave something unfinished. I usually don’t mind shoujo anime and I think it’s cute. Then again, when it comes to people going back and forth in their relationships there’s a fine line of how much back and forth I can take before it gets stupid. This anime has a lot of back and forth and problems all over.. So if you like this kind of drama this should be checked out! I’m going to find something not so cringy to watch.  Title: Peach Girl: Super Pop Love Hurricane Director: Hiroshi Ishiodori Watched language: Japanese  Genre: Drama, romance, shoujo, slice of Life Episodes: 25 Release year: 2005 Synopsis:  Peach Girl is about an average high school girl, Momo Adachi, who everyone thinks is a beach bunny/slut because of her tanned skin. The actual reason she is so tanned is because she was on the swim team and tans very easily. She likes a boy, Toji, who she heard only likes non-tanned girls. This causes her to question who she is and have low self esteem. She spends a lot of time trying to remake herself into the girl she believes he wants; however, she has a friend, Sae, who likes to go behind Momo's back and make her life terrible, mostly by trying to take Toji away from her. All the while there's another boy, Kairi, who is in love with Momo.

She and Her Cat I just randomly stumbled over this short anime. It’s only four episodes and they are only 8 minutes long, so use a good 30 minutes and watch this. It’s really cute and we get the story from the cat’s perspective. And the best part, the original idea for this short is based on a Makoto Shinkai OVA with the same name.  Title: She and Her Cat /  Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko: Everything Flows Director: Kazuya Sakamoto Watched language: Japanese Genre: Psychological, romance, slice of life  Episodes: 4 Release year: 2016  Synopsis: For the longest time, it's just been the two of them. "Kanojo" and her cat Daru are inseparable, having grown up together. Now a junior in college, Tomoka—her roommate of a year and a half—moves out of their shared apartment, and in order to keep her living space, Kanojo must find a job. Day by day, Daru watches her continued efforts from a cat's-eye view, eagerly awaiting his owner's return. When she gets back, once again, it's just she and her cat.

Yuri!!! on Ice  I’ve been waiting for this to finish up since the first episode aired, and also ever since my tumblr feed was overloaded with ice skating gifs I have been really excited. The visuals are so pretty and the animations are wonderful and quite believable as well (I don’t know much about ice skating though). As always when it comes to sports anime I’m immediately hooked and it’s as exciting as an actual competition after a while. The original soundtrack has pretty much been on repeat the last couple of days and I’m watching the opening over and over as well *heh*. If you liked Free! you’ll definitely like this one! The relationships between the main characters are interesting and the story is all over nice with all the different kinds of personalities clashing together. You may think you know what’s going on in the characters heads, but this time around their actions speak louder than words. Little is left for the audience to imagine, even though they don’t say much. As I have no more ice skating to watch *sob* I’m quite eager to check out some more animes from MAPPA, the animation studio behind this masterpiece, while I’m hoping for another season!  Title: Yuri!!! on Ice / ユーリ!!! on ICE  Director: Sayo Yamamoto Watched language: Japanese Genre: Comedy, sports Episodes: 12  Release year: 2016 Synopsis:  Reeling from his crushing defeat at the Grand Prix Finale, Yuuri Katsuki, once Japan's most promising figure skater, returns to his family home to assess his options for the future. At age 23, Yuuri's window for success in skating is closing rapidly, and his love of pork cutlets and aptitude for gaining weight are not helping either. However, Yuuri finds himself in the spotlight when a video of him performing a routine previously executed by five-time world champion, Victor Nikiforov, suddenly goes viral. In fact, Victor himself abruptly appears at Yuuri's house and offers to be his mentor. As one of his biggest fans, Yuuri eagerly accepts, kicking off his journey to make it back onto the world stage. But the competition is fierce, as the rising star from Russia, Yuri Plisetsky, is relentlessly determined to defeat Yuuri and win back Victor's tutelage.
