ok ok ok so I just saw the barbie movie right? and it was beautiful. it was heartbreaking. it was built for all of us to enjoy. it was hilarious.

but y’know what really got me? what had me sobbing in the theater? that montage of women. all of our joy, our pain, our diversity, playing out on the big screen. and barbie saw all that. that montage represented all of our humanity. good and bad.

joy.

love.

gentleness.

forgiveness.

she saw people helping each other. she saw friends dancing in the kitchen. she saw family and pets. she saw the ocean and sunrises and fresh green grass. bigotry.

hatred.

struggle.

hurt.

she saw women at the gas station at night, pepper spray in hand. she saw rape. blatant misogyny in all fields. she was catcalled by men on the street. she knew what it felt like to grow up in a world where you’re always vaguely uncomfortable, always cautious, always worried, always prepared.

but guess what?? she still chose to be human. barbie saw all of our fuckeduppedness and still actively decided to live in our world.

so I just listened to this really interesting podcast about white sage in California and how the people who like sell it for pagan rituals are not only appropriating Native American culture but also decimating the landscapes the sage comes from (shoutout to ologies!) and like human demands for food and fish meal are in many cases in direct competition with forage needs of marine mammals, birds and piscivorous harvested fish. Globally, harvest of forage species such as sardines, anchovy, herring and euphausiids (or krill) total approximately 30 million tonnes and account for sbout 30% of global fisheries landings which is crazy

I just went Scuba Diving for my dive master certificate which was really cool! I really enjoyed exploring the underwater wonders of Great Keppel Island, and I got to see fish, turtles, pelagics, rays, and some awesome kelps!!!! There was a really cool seagrass meadows that I got to explore
