Tumblr media
Additional characteristics: Despite his extreme age, he looks like he's merely in his late 60s to early 70s. His body is completely covered in countless scars, ranging from claw marks to lightning burns. He has the physique of an Olympic strongman and calloused hands that never so much as quiver under even the most stressful of situations and possess a vice-like grip that's almost impossible to escape from. His sharp nails are actually retracted claws, and are capable of rending flesh and metal alike when fully extended. His eyes are a rich golden color with red accents, and sport slitted, reptilian pupils. His ears are elongated and elf-like. His teeth are razor sharp and the canines are elongated into vicious fangs. His face is weathered and rarely shows emotion, but if you look closely there are clear smile lines. He has both crow's feet and dark circles under his eyes. Most of his hair has turned grey, but some still possess the coppery red of his youth. Though almost never seen as he's extremely good at hiding them -though the reason why is unknown - he has a pair of draconic wings with black and gold scales sprouting from his back, a draconic tail of similar coloration, the tip of which is bladed and impossibly sharp, and a line of bone spikes that protrude from his back and run along his spine. Much like most of his family, he has an Irish accent.
Profession(s): arcanologist, biomechanical engineer, licensed arms dealer, CEO of Wylde Labs, religious leader
Allied factions: the Orokin Empire, the ASF, the Drone colonies of Copper 9, Humanity
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Pronouns: he/him
Sexuality: Demiromantic omnisexual
Relationships: @theblackcubeofdarkness Cube, @emily-and-friends Clown - spouse (polyamorous relationship) Evelyn, Emma, Oswald, Ruby, Lucy, Lily, @theblackcubeofdarkness Oliver - biological father Cyn, Delilah, @emily-and-friends Emily, @solvar-the-drone, @nate-doorman-elliot, @thad-the-jock, @p3nny-bakes-cookies - adoptive father Agent Arrow - master and mentor Slyvan - pet owner Natah - son Janus - host Margret, Tessa, Abby, Odin, Belnar, Alice, Sarah, Cephalon Eda, Elizabeth, Asmodeus, @emily-and-friends Mikan, @sea-slug-in-a-sweater, @r4m-has-horns - employer Andy - Champion Serial Designation J, Yeva, @emily-and-friends Serial Designation O, Adele, Valentine, Vivien, Koki, Mimi, @asknoridoorman, @roseamongrobots - close friend and associate @asf-director-turner - contracted employer Ko, @emily-and-friends Serial Designation V, Korrina, @serial-designation-mj, @worker-drone-alex - (potential) future father-in-law
Personality: He is extremely adept at hiding his true emotions, creating an illusion of perpetual calm. Though he never reveals this information to anyone but those closest to him, in truth he is haunted by his past and suffers from PTSD so severe that he's developed an irrational fear of falling asleep, for he knows the only things waiting for him on the other side are vivid and horrific nightmares. He has a bit of a smoking problem, though he usually only smokes when he's particularly stressed. He loves his family dearly, though can be a bit overprotective of his children - especially Ruby, his firstborn. He is known for harboring extreme hatred and prejudice - bordering on flat out speciesism - against demonic entities, with exactly one known exception. Contrary to popular belief, he does have a sense of humor. Though rarely seen, he is known for having a sadistic streak and is not above torture if the situation demands it. Though he loves the thrill of combat and is very much driven by honor, he is not above "cheating" or "playing dirty;" he can and will exploit your weaknesses at every chance he gets, and he never fights fair. He has a bad habit of consuming the souls of those he kills in order to steal their knowledge and power. He is deeply religious and has an unwavering sense of duty to keep his culture alive, as his home world is gone and he is among the last of his species. He's very slow to trust, and is extremely secretive. Not even his two spouses know all his secrets. He's a complete workaholic and loves his job.
Important lore tidbits: Like many of his kin, the Doctor's true form is incompatible with the comprehension of mortals, and so he devised a plan to hide it. He tracked down a human scientist named Cedric Wylde, killed him, and stole his name, flesh, voice, and even his very soul. The new Doctor Wylde now wears the old one's skin like a costume, though how he fits inside is unknown. He has worn this skin for just over 50 years, and once it finally gives out on him, he'll have to shed it and repeat the process. In order to keep himself from sinking into the ground as its crushed under his immense weight, the doctor is constantly using gravity magic to make himself lighter. At this current point in time it's become second nature to him, as effortless and automatic as breathing, and sometimes he forgets he's even doing it. He is a veteran of a great war known as the Fell War, and it is the cause of not only his PTSD, but also his prejudice against demons. Over the millennia he's developed a split personality; a twisted version of himself named Janus. Pray you never meet him, and that if you do the meeting is brief and nonviolent. Janus only emerges to "play" when Doctor Wylde nears his breaking point mentally. He is capable of allowing parts of his true self to temporarily break through the skin suit as "mutations" if needs be. He can also contort his body at inhuman angles at will.
Additional lore trivia: In his youth, he had a bit of a superiority complex and this obnoxious "holier than thou" attitude that only got more infuriating when you realize that he's right. Such things were snuffed out of him during the Fell War. Though fully ambidextrous as an adult, he was born left handed. Do NOT challenge him to a drinking contest, as not only does he already have a drinking problem and by doing so you're encouraging him, but the alcohol content needed to get him even slightly tipsy is enough to kill several people from alcohol poisoning. He absolutely despises the word "moist." His favorite color seems to change every few days. This is because his favorite color is actually outside the wavelengths of visible light for humans, and he's trying to find one that's the most similar.

Wylde Family Lore!
Evelyn Wylde
Disclaimer: This character sheet is outdated and will be edited soon.
Evelyn Elise Wylde - yes her initials are EEW - is a fourteen year old demihuman, and granddaughter of the famous Orokin scientist Doctor Cedric Wylde - though their relationship is one of father and daughter so they refer to each other as such. She identifies as bisexual and her pronouns are she/her.
Evelyn is 5 feet 6 six inches (66 inches) in height and is usually seen wearing cleated snow shoes, jeans, winter snow pants, a long sleeve shirt, a jacket that she's "borrowing" from her girlfriend, @doll-the-zombie-drone, and a magic talisman from her late mother that protects her from harm. She has elven ears, a round face, soft lips, tanned skin, freckles, a button nose, piercing sapphire-blue eyes with slitted pupils, braided shoulder-length silver hair with purple, blue, and light green highlights, fangs, sharp claws for nails, well toned muscles, and an Australian accent. However, her most notable features are her molted green prehensile lizard tail, the tip of which boasts a razor-sharp blade, a pair of bat wings she keeps hidden under her jacket when she's not using them, and - though she'd almost always hiding it - a vivisection scar on her chest. Unless you want to be punched in the face at full force, it would be wise to not touch it.
Depending on who she's talking to, her personality varies wildly. Thanks to her childhood she has trust issues and is slow to warm up to people. Of course, once she does she goes from cold and distant to a lovable goofball cinnamon roll who loves to snuggle. She is also capable of purring and adores physical affection - that being said, don't touch her tail without permission, as it's extremely sensitive. She is surprisingly touch-starved and as a result physical affection has become her love language. She also adores praise, and especially likes being called a "good girl." The one thing that remains constant throughout the two sides of her personality is that she's a massive tomboy and ready for a fight at any time, including when she's asleep. The girl keeps a hatchet under her pillow for Void's sake. She is also autistic - high functioning - and has a hard time telling whether or not someone's being sarcastic, subtly making fun of her, or being genuine. She's also also insecure, has abandonment issues, hates loud noises, and is terrified of driving her loved ones away.
After learning the truth of the Absolute Solver in episode six, Evie has developed a strong phobia of Solver-infected Drones and the AS itself.
Thanks to Evie's great great grandfather, who's name has been stricken from history, she and her entire bloodline are effectively immortal and while they can be killed, they will eventually come back to life. Preventative measures can be taken to slow the self-resurrection process, but it cannot be stopped. The family also has supernatural powers, with Evie specializing in Pyromancy, or fire magic. She also also has a familiar - a phoenix she named Sol. She is very protective of Sol and will deck you without hesitation if you hurt her bird.
In terms of combat, her options are surprisingly varied. Not only does she have the aforementioned fire magic, but she is also incredibly strong, a black belt in jujitsu, carries multiple knives on her person at all times, and has a substantial collection of weapons that she can pull from and summon into her hands at will. She is also one of exactly three people who wields the Delta Solver - a variant of the Absolute Solver created by her grandfather. The Delta Solver is much less powerful than the AS, but more versatile, not sentient, lacks the biological aspect, and can only be given to others by an Admin.
As an added bonus she is capable of turning into a Disassembly Drone with blue lights instead of yellow, though she usually only uses this form to fluster her girlfriend.

MASTERLIST OF WANTED CONNECTIONS
OOC Note: Below you'll find a list of connections I'd love to have for my characters. These connections can be filled by existing characters within the rp, or new ones! Please don't hesitate to reach out if anything interests you. Nothing here is set in stone, all is open for discussion and fun plotting.
For YUAN ANYA ( Read more about her )
YUAN FAMILY: One or two relatives from the YiTish region of Wan. If they're cousins, Anya only has male cousins back in Wan. The WC could be other members of the extended family. Any FC filling this connection must have Chinese heritage.
Helpful links: Yi Ti lore | WC for YiTish people in the North
Tumblr media
For CALLA LEFFORD ( Read more about her )
FIRST LOVE/CONFIDANT: Age 31 - 36. Suggested FCs are Chris Evans, Oscar Isaac, Diego Luna, Charlie Cox, Jon Bernthal. You're encouraged to contact me. This character would most likely be from the Westerlands or Westerlands-allied regions. This character's story is entirely utp, I don't have any pre-established headcanons, just that they were each other's first love but ultimately things didn't work out (Maybe his mother didn't approve of Calla's capricious nature? Perhaps Calla's mom, Lanna, didn't approve of him. We can brainstorm). What's important is that they're still close to this day (There could've been some distance during the Dance, but they've found their way back). They're refreshingly honest with each other and have a way of understanding the other, which is something Calla doesn't have with anyone else. He wouldn't have neglected her/shamed her after the disastrous end of her marriage to Garland Hightower.
CHILDHOOD FRIEND: Age 28 - 33. I would love for Calla to have a close friend that she’s known all her life. Could be a friendship that has endured through to their adulthood, or had suffered because of time and distance. Since Calla was little, she was outspoken, capricious, and stubborn af; so this girl could be someone that marches at the same speed or someone with a calmer nature who helps to ground Calla a bit. Anyway, I’d just love a friendly bond, female friendships, and sorority between women is lovely and I want more of it, please. Taken connection → Alayne Farman
Tumblr media
For DEIMOS VELARYON ( Read more about him )
YOUNGER BROTHER: Age 27 - 28. Captain of a ship within the Velaryon fleet. The Velaryons siblings can butt heads because they all have strong personalities, but ultimately I think they're there for each other when it counts. Deimos can be stern and callous, but everything he does is for the good of the family and what he believes is in his siblings' best interests. I would love to keep exploring more sibling dynamics with this new brother! Suggested FCs are Freddy Carter, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bradley James, Paddy Gibson, Aneurin Barnard.
Helpful links: Velaryon family
Tumblr media
For DAERON DONDARRION ( Read more about him )
CLOSE FRIEND: Age 31 - 35. A Stormlander, just like Daeron. These two would have been friends for years now, maybe not keeping in touch at all times, but always easing back into a sort of "found family" vibe. I'm open to any and all ideas, to explore what brings them together as friends and what makes them clash. I just want him to have a bro since his literal bros are dead and gone. Taken connection → Magnus Wylde
YOUNGER SISTER: Age 26 - 31. Suggested FCs are Blanca Suárez, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Ana de Armas, Isis Valverde, Alba Galocha, or any Spanish FC/FC with Hispanic heritage. Sibling dynamics are my weakness, so it would be amazing to have this lady in the game. She's the youngest Dondarrion and is a lady-in-waiting to Queen Caerella. Daeron is protective of her since she's the only sibling he has left, which can lead to some ride-or-die vibes or perhaps even her feeling smothered by his big bro protectiveness. There's a lot to unpack in terms of the family and what they've been through with the deaths of the oldest brothers and their mom. It would be interesting to explore what her stance was/is about that. Also, as a woman of Blackhaven (heavily inspired by Basque heritage and as well as the calé people), a woman has a very important role within the family structure. There are beliefs about their virtue and whatnot, sure, but they're very equal in standing to men, especially as wives (once they marry), so she wasn't raised to become anyone's shadow.

okokokok *purusing the questions like in the line to subway* can i get... pyrs and louis pre relationship 1 to 3, and gwyn and twahearne domestic life 5 to 7 with a side of love 1 to 3 for both ships pls
lemme get on that order for you right now
Pyrs & Louis
PRE-RELATIONSHIP
How did they first meet?
oooo one of my favorite lil tidbits of lore Belial, early on as commander, had implemented a program to encourage recruits of the different orders to get to know one another. The program would pick groups of recruits and rotate them through the order halls for training with each order. Pyrs was a Vigil recruit picked for this program in it's testing stages. His group was meant to train with the Priory.
Their very first meeting was the introductions of the Vigil recruits to the Priory recruits & faculty. Pyrs couldn't stop staring at Louis, even though he tried. Louis, thought he was cute, handsome even.
2. What was their first impression of each other?
Louis thought Pyrs was adorable. This sweet, nervous sapling genuinely trying so hard to chase his Wyld Hunt, which was quite vague, despite how unfit for the Vigil he was at first. Louis found him physically attractive as well, Pyrs is shorter than him, has always been stronger than him, and his voice is like a siren's song to Louis.
Pyrs was very very nervous in Louis' presence because of his high rank in the priory. That faded quickly when he got to talk to Louis, finding out that he was a really sweet person. He thought Louis was very handsome, he could listen to him talk for hours. (he was able to aswell- attending priory lectures Louis gave.) He thought- and still thinks,- that Louis is a charismatic, kind, caring man.
3. Did any of their friends or family want them to get together?
Louis keeps in touch with his family who're back home in Kryta through letters. His little sister encouraged him to try and get closer to Pyrs when their relationship was new. Louis wrote this off as her naivety- Pyrs was a recruit after all, that's a bad idea.
Pyrs' closest friend, Branthyn, wanted him to "just tell the damned magister already!" She was sick of his pining. (And wanted him to quell his anxieties, he was worrying about everything to do with it so much, she just wanted him to be able to relax again.)
(Pyrs was the first to confess, very nervously asking Louis on a "date," or whatever next best thing they could manage. Louis thought it was adorable, needing to stand up from his desk to feign browsing the bookshelf behind it in order to hide the smile creeping onto his face.)
Maelgwyn & Trahearne
DOMESTIC LIFE
5. Who’s the stricter parent?
Trahearne. Maelgwyn's more like "I taught them how to use a knife, it's fine." It's not that drastic of a difference though, both would probably set rules, but Trahearne's the one to be more specific with said rules or outright ban certain activities.
6. Who worries the most?
I think this is a tie. They've both been through a lot. Maelgwyn has had to deal with some heavy trauma regarding loss and loss of loved ones. Trahearne has too though, and more times than Gwyn. They're almost always at eachother's sides in combat. I'm sure both always have that thought in the back of their minds, "Is this the last time I get to tell him how much he means to me?" And every other thought like that.
7. Who kills the bugs in the house?
Maelgwyn's house, where they both live, is very open for airflow so they probably both just swat/relocate bugs back out where they came from. I can't see either of them being squeamish about insects tbh. "put those lil idiots back outside where they came from >:V"
FOUR of Them (both ships)
Maelgwyn & Trahearne
LOVE
Who said “I love you” first?
Avae beat ya to this one by like a millisecond last night asdfgdhsfgdsf
2. What are their primary love languages?
Trahearne's is verbal. Telling Gwyn he loves him, randomly telling him he's attractive, and getting back at Gwyn with inappropriate comments. Touch as well just less than words.
Maelgwyn it's definitely physical affection & gifts. Words are Difficult and Talking about Emotions is HARD for him, so why not grab Trahearne by the waist when no one is looking? Why not snatch him at any chance he gets just to kiss him or touch him. why not.
Trahearne certainly doesn't seem to mind.
3. Who uses cheesy pick-up lines?
Honestly i don't think either of them do, but if I had to pick, Maelgwyn would find the worst ones just to ironically inflict them upon Trahearne.
Louis & Pyrs
LOVE
Who said “I love you” first?
Honestly this one is almost a tie as well. I think Louis would've really really wanted to tell Pyrs first, but opt instead to let Pyrs say it whenever he was ready. So Pyrs did say "I love you" first. Pyrs was the more heisitant of the two, until the campaign against Mordremoth. He told Louis he loved him, the day after he almost lost him.
2. What are their primary love languages?
They're both very affectionate & cuddly with eachother. Louis favors being the one touched. They're both very flirtatious with eachother aswell, through words, touch, and body language from across the room.
3. Who uses cheesy pick-up lines?
so louis' guilty pleasure is goldclaw books. and pyrs is a dork who would abso-fucking-lutely find the worst lines in the whole book just to slip them into conversations with louis. A "i know you know that i know," sort of subtle teasing. the way it makes louis flustered is endlessly entertaining to pyrs.

And now a bit of lore under the cut.
Zael killed his father after learning that he’s cursed Zael and other previous first borns with previous oracles, to keep himself immortal and to keep his thrown.  Zael recently learned that all 4 monsters of the Wyld Hunt are his father’s first born children who were given as ‘trophies’ to the goddess sisters in exchange for his immortality and authority to the thrown.  Zael found this out while under his banishment, not knowing that right under the crystal eye’s chamber was a pathway that lead right under the kingdom of Raziel that had another structure under it. Zael’s father, Ginnybrikk, buried his past right under his family’s nose, as this structure was the old abandoned castle of a forbidden place called Uva’an, which Sinre ( Zael’s interpreter and friend ) had mentioned only once in passing. All of Uva’an’s knowledge was there, and thus did Zael know how to undo the immortal bind on his father, so after they battled, he did just that, and honored his father’s words after killing him.  To let him die on the thrown.  Zael’s father is still sitting there, on the thrown of Uva’an, buried with his past. But that’s not the end of Zael’s journey, nor his duty.  Not by a long shot.

Rambling and trying to piece together Ricky’s lore like a madman. very long and insane
the BIGGEST lore thing for him is that I want him to be a Hunter or an ex-Hunter like Marco for the purposes of drama and also for him to be wildly strong for no reason bc its sexy and fun
He was more of an experimentation case than the other Destroyers and thus wasn’t well known amongst the second destroyers since, given his age (early 30s), he probably would have been grouped into their squad. He still had one of their gun names tho his code name was Heckler and the other destroyers probably heard of him but never really met him. And uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the whatever fuckin experiments made him much stronger than the others but unfortunately he was not as obedient so they made this super powered weapon of a man that will not fucking listen to them or pretty much anyone else for that matter. Since the shit starts when theyre really young he probably listens for a while and DOES end up killing a bunch of twilights but in the end hes like. actually this sucks im gonna do other shit byeeee ❤️ and he just drops out of existence and becomes hard to track by changing his name frequently AND going on T
Hes uhhhhhhhh somewhere around 16-18 when he dips and he’s now kinda wandering around Ergastulum trying to survive as everyone else is. He takes a bunch of random jobs (waiter/bartender/probably random jobs for some of the mafia families/maybe works in a brothel for a bit/dancer of various sorts) and just kinda lives his life for a while. I think I’m gonna make him a dancer/dance instructor and ALSO a self defense/hand to hand combat teacher with stuff he learned in his hunter training or w/e. Also he becomes a drag queen at some point bc it’s fun and I say so. his drag name is Wyld Fyre because hes an insane redhead.
Might have it so the Corsica’s track him down, threaten him or do something to make him work with their new destroyers against his will. He won’t actively participate in their bullshit but his “”job”” is to track down the A and S ranks and 1. keep a ledger of them, 2. keep an eye on them, and 3. be ready to kill them because he’s the only one who could easily take care of them himself. He’s like yeah sure whatever, and DOES keep an eye on the higher rank twilights but never really does anything about them. He’ll give the Corsicas/Destroyers info but never very much and sometimes will just lie and they cant do anything about it because while the destroyers COULD kill him it would take most of them is not worth the casualties and injuries he would cause during a fight, which would fuck up their whole operation.
That’s probably how he meets the Benriya bitches because he’s trying to keep an eye on Nic esp because of whatever nonsense is going on with Nic’s actual rank. He befriends them and may even join Benriya I havent decided but it would be fun and sexy. and Alex can come stay at his house when she wants so she doesnt have to deal with Worick being stupid GHKSDGH Also him and Worick fall in love a little and its sweet and nice
anyway DRAMA and HEARTBREAK and NONSENSE when Worick goes to the Corsicas and sees Ricky with the other destroyers. Worick is heartbroken seeing he was working with these bitches the whole time, and Ricky is heartbroken seeing Worick has switched sides and seemingly abandoned Nic and all the tagged he’s worked to help and theyre gonna have a dramatic talk about it eventually but who knows when
tldr: all of this is a big excuse to make this tiny bitch able to punch people through walls

5-10 for the commander asks!
Ty for the ask (and got the secondary message too, no worries)!
Ruby:
5. Which death caused your commander the most grief?
Her and Riag share this for different reasons, but some person. Trahearne. For her it's because he was her big brother, she only has Family mode and friend mode for other people and having something impact that just really rattled her. Curiosity enough, it had the opposite effect on her than it did to Grumpy Pants. She was *mad* and wanted to make a difference then, which prompted her to stay in the Pact even though Riag had retired.
6. If your commander could revive one person, who would it be and why?
Ohh interesting. This may get some odd takes but... Anyone? For her to say x person deserves it more than y person makes her very uncomfortable. There have been so many casualties over the years. Someone of high rank who went out nobly has as much right as some civilian who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. So *anyone*.
7. How does your commander feel toward their position of power?
She is doing it because it needs to be done and she wants to see it done with care. But beyond that? She's not a 'commander', she can be bossy but doesn't command. Power means piss all to her - she is here to help and try to make things better. Honestly, if she could find someone who is better fitted she would happily hand the title over. But she's got the most experience by story now of Dragons/Big threats so she's stuck with it.
8. Does your commander fear death?
Fear? No. Annoyed to hell with? Absolutely. She's died canonically twice, once thanks to Balthy and one thanks to Bangar (for a few minutes medically speaking). She fears other people's death - as her greatest fear has always been being the last one standing.
9. Does your commander believe they’re on the right path?
Not really! She thinks it's a bit more nuanced than Right or Wrong. Her Wyld Hunt has been yelling that she's doing the wrong thing for actual years now. But it's helped people, hasn't it? Being the Commander? So how can it be too wrong? But it's also harmed and killed. So it can't be all right either. It's just needed and she's stuck with the yoke. Though she's not really resentful of it - it be what it be - as they say.
10. When alone, how does your commander handle grief?
She's not as good taking care of her own needs. Ruby tends to isolate and neglect things.
One of her big things in life is experimenting with cooking and baking. But when by herself and in grief everything is mundane and uniform. Usually she'd try to get excited by adding new spice combinations but when by herself she will just have everything plain.
Riaghael:
5. Which death caused your commander the most grief?
Trahearne. Even though in my canon he comes back, Riag is still grieving. Which is upsetting and disorienting for the flower boy, when like the source of the grief is *alive* and standing right there and concerned.
Side note that that's one of the things I am proud of with Riag's lore? Addressing the fact that the damage doesn't just get smoothed over and voila everything is fine now. Removing the knife from ones heart doesn't instantly make everything go back to normal the damage and the injury is still there. Grief especially does not listen to normal parameters of things - it's choosy and mean and happens in waves regardless of external situations.
6. If your commander could revive one person, who would it be and why?
It would be a tie for him between Apatia (who he still feels guilt and personal responsibility for) and Almorra. Almorra knew him probably better than a lot of people from his early Vigil days - when he used some of his headstrong determination in a productive way and the news of her death has weighed on him since he found out. So either of those two.
7. How does your commander feel toward their position of power?
He saw power as a tool for getting things done, not so much for something of value of itself. When he was commander, he would use it if he felt like the situation needed it and would further the efforts of resolving world threats. Riag enjoyed what he could do with power to help but not so much the position of it.
8. Does your commander fear death?
Nope. Never has. He's not got the healthiest view on it either, or on his own physical body. Death just is - it's everywhere and unavoidable. Sort of sees his body as a rental to do as much good as he can but not something to cherish or spend time on.
9. Does your commander believe they’re on the right path?
As Commander Riag? Absolutely. 100%. Unlike Ruby who sees things more in the grey, Riag is more polarized in some ways. Being Commander was actually his 'destiny' and Wyld Hunt went along with it. That's what he considered his whole purpose and meaning to be - so yes! He's started to realize that maybe things aren't so linear as he thought.
10. When alone, how does your commander handle grief?
POORLY.
Younger Riag's grief manifested as anger and self/destructiveness (going out on dangerous events where he could kill threats to distract himself from it). When that was no longer available since he hadn't really let himself explore any other ways to express it was to just complete disconnect from himself. Though it wasn't something that he elected to do -psychological damage and inability to cope with reality just yeeted him.

A Miraculous Exalted AU
I’ve been thinking a lot about this because these are two of my obsessions and putting them together just makes sense! Here’s how I’d put Miraculous Ladybug into the Exalted gameworld.
(Beware. Exalted has a LOT of lore, so this post is gonna get long.)
Beetle Clad in Scarlet
In the High First Age, the Yozis, overthrown masters of Creation, made several attempts to escape their imprisonment in hell. One attempt focused on an artifact, left behind from before they destroyed 9/10ths of creation in petty rage, of Magics that have been unknown to Creation since the Primordial War. It nearly succeeded, and would have resulted in the burning of the whole world if not for the efforts of one extremely competent Solar and her Lunar mate.
For those of you who haven’t played Exalted, the Exalted are the equivalent of demigods, granted power by the highest of the gods to represent their interests in Creation. The Solars are the kings and queens of these, and the Twilight Caste of the Solars are the sorcerers, engineers, and artists among them. The Yozis’ plan was opposed by a young Twilight Caste, Beetle Clad in Scarlet, and her Lunar Mate, the Full Moon Caste (peerless shapeshifting warriors of animal aspects) known as Shadowed Claw. Somehow, using a sorcery that she made up on the spot—previously believed to be impossible—Beetle dematerialized the artifact and enfolded it within her own Exaltation, unable to be retrieved by anyone but herself.
This, however, came mere days before the Usurpation, when the Sidereal Exalted, charged with maintaining the integrity of Fate, learned that the Solars were prophecied to run Creation into the ground, and overthrew them, slaying them all and imprisoning their souls deep beneath the sea. Beetle and Claw died together, defending each other to their last breath, taking the knowledge of the artifact with them. However, they did not die at the same second, which means that, for a moment only one person in existence knew of the Artifact’s existence.
Meaning that Nara-O, God of Things That Only One Person Knows, discovered it in that one moment, for if there is a secret in Creation that only one being knows, Nara-O immediately knows as well.
Fighting his very nature, Nara-O contacted a young Sidereal of the House of Secrets named Wang Fu and told him of the Artifact. Commanded him to keep watch. But for three thousand years, the Solars did not return, and Fu’s watch was fruitless.
When the Yozis freed the imprisoned souls of the Solar Exalted in order to steal them for themselves, they hoped that Beetle’s would be among those they captured. Alas, Beetle’s Exaltation escaped, carrying the Artifact with it.
Butterfly Born of Sorrow
Agreste Gabriel was, to all appearances, an average (if obscenely wealthy) citizen of the city of Nexus. A family man, a member of the Guild—the wealthiest merchant group in Creation—and a bit of a recluse. In secret, however—unknown to even their son—both he and his wife were Sidereal Exalted, of the house of Joy. Knowing the dangers of the world thanks to their study of fate, and unable to protect their unexalted son, they chose to keep him within their Nexian estate and protect him as best they could.
Then Emilie was slain by a rampaging demon, and Gabriel fell apart.
Raising the dead is impossible in Creation. Moreover, time travel is forbidden within Creation’s laws—but not in hell, where time is at the mercy of the Yozis, maddened kings of demonkind. To get his wife back, Gabriel traveled into hell to beg the Yozis for the power to turn back time, for the soul of his wife.
Such a feat would be impossible, they explained, unless they were freed from hell and allowed to rule Creation once more.
Gabriel agreed.
The Yozis hollowed out his soul and replaced it with their own will, their own malice, making him into an Akuma under their control. (Akuma in Exalted are very different than the ones in Miraculous.) They set the newly-created Butterfly Born of Sorrow on a quest to recover the artifact, knowing only that there was another Sidereal who knew of its existence hiding somewhere in the city of Nexus. They gifted their new servant with spells designed to mimic Infernal Exaltation, that allow him to temporarily fuse a demon with a mortal in order to command both, then sent him to find Beetle’s soul and the Artifact therein.
Ladybug and Chat Noir
Cheng Marinette is the daughter of two bakers of Nexus, famous as much for their descent from rival gods of baking as for the incredible quality of their goods. Due to their fame and the patronage of several city gods, her family could afford to send her to one of the greatest schools in Nexus, where she excelled. However, her classmate Ivan was the first to fall under Butterfly’s spell, fused with a demonic Blood Ape and sent on a rampage across the city in order to draw out Wang Fu.
Instead, the Blood Ape/Child fusion mortally wounded Agreste Adrien, who has snuck out of his father’s manse, then came across Cheng Marinette and her friend Césaire Alya. In an effort to protect her friend and save this stranger, Marinette fought the Blood Ape... only realizing afterwards that she had taken the Second Breath, been chosen by the Unconquered Sun to carry on the legacy of Beetle Clad in Scarlet. Adrien, seeing her Anima burn with the wings of the Ladybug, knew in that moment he had to survive, to see her again—and so Luna came to him, granting him the Exaltation of Shadowed Claw, binding his soul to Marinette’s forevermore. Together, the new Ladybug and Chat Noir battled the Blood Ape across the city, eventually banishing it back to hell, and then discovered that the artifact within her soul had granted Marinette a single Solar Circle spell: the ability to revert any damage done by demons in her presence.
Now, Butterfly Born of Sorrow—stripped of any ability to care for his son by the Yozis, as well as any ability to innovate his plans—seeks to defeat Ladybug and Chat Noir to claim the artifact for reasons he no longer recalls, while Ladybug and Chat Noir hide their Exaltations from everyone who knows them lest they fall afoul of the Wyld Hunt. Gabriel is overseen by Rossi Lila, Infernal Exalted of the Malefactor Caste, chosen by the demon king of lies and betrayal.

Arima Verse Reboot Lore 2 Zoartis- An Archipelago Diarchy to the north east of Arima. The Population of Zoartis was devastated by in-fighting among themselves and dealing with the largest horde of Vilkata that has ever been seen. Zoartis is still pulling itself back together after these consecutive calamities. Living near the gate of the wyld has offered the Zoartians unique boons, allowing them the space to pull themselves back from the brink. Many of the Elysia of Zoartis have developed aquatic capabilities and other biological adaptations to help them survive in their hazardous environment. Due to this the Zoartians are the undisputed masters of aquatic warfare among the three grand nations. Along with its Aquatic populace, reptilian and insectoid individuals are extremely common in its people. Zoartis is ruled by the sibling lords Viappo and Renkra. One rules the Empire Beneath the Waves and the other the Empire of Rising Tides. Every so often the siblings will switch places, often without informing others ahead of time.
Immortals of Zoartis
Aloanoi: Beginnings, Balance, Strength, Hearth. Favored weapon Scythe
Hoaisu: Rot, Farming,Family, Ships. Favored weapon Cutlass
Ogianoo:   Storms,Bounty,architecture,Survival. Favored weapon Katana
Panuying: Dueling, Honor, Tsunami's, Conquest. Favored weapon spear Portheous- The temperamental fiefdoms of Portheous house several villages and cities. Self governing city states are the norm, each only bending knee to more powerful warlords. These lands lay to the northwest of the Grand Isle of Arima. Competitions, fighting, and bloodshed between villages is common. However when given a common enemy they unite in the name of a good fight. In Portheous individuals are considered less important then organizations or ‘Companions’. Companions live, breath, and fight as a cohesive unit, often taking the Group’s name as their own surname. Though often one individual does rise to greater fame than the rest of their companions, those who would seek to steal glory and undermine their companions are considered unforgivable. Their reward is often a slow end by Blood Eagle, their rib cages opened from behind and their lungs removed while still alive. The people of Portheous are not mere savage brutes; they have developed several arts, are masters of commerce and bearers of a rich cultural heritage. In times of great need a ‘Master of Arms’ is named to lead a unified Portheous, though once the danger is done and those who fought by each others’ sides have passed to age or blade their unification swiftly falls to sustained chaos. As of today, there is no Master of Arms.
Immortals of Portheous Alexandria: Stars, Camaraderie, Lightning, Books. Favored weapon Staff
Delmaus: Moon, Commerce, Ice, Dreams. Favored weapon khopesh
Stygia Von Stroud: Earth, Battle, Hunting, Metal. Favored weapon Claymore
Zalamete: Time, Sun, Fire, Craftsmanship. Favored weapon Hammer Kaleria- The Kalerian empire lays to the south of Arima, ruling vast plains and desert. Compared to its neighbors the Kalerian empire is a well oiled machine of resources, cities, and bureaucracy. Everyone knows their place in the empire to keep its mighty gears ever turning. It is said in the Kalerian empire that anyone can rise to greatness, but there are only so many podiums. Those who fail to truly become the best in their respective field are doomed to a nameless note in a grander tale. However should you find yourself at the top, everyone in the empire will know who you are and seek your favor. The Master of the Arena, the Emperor, the Guardians of the Western and Eastern gates.  All figures worth knowing. The oil of Kaleria is not free however, it is paid in the blood, sweat, and labor of its lower castes. A nameless, thankless role, and one many strive to rise above. Anyone could rise to the highest throne in the realm, and anyone could fall to the depths of obscurity. The Empire is currently ruled by Empress Julia Del Marcania XII. Immortals of Kaleria Carien 'Concord' Candor:Library, generals,Tea, Wood. Favored weapon shields
Chrysanthemum: Fertility, Thieves, Marble, Music. Favored weapon Trident
Ellen: Granite, Roads, Gladiators, Politics. Favored weapon Gladius
Luscious: Clay, Oasis, Priests, Games. Favored weapon Dolabra

From the Tabletop #3
If I don't do this with some haste, I'm going to forget important details, so let's get the party started. At this point, we had a GM swap, Valentinian being excused out of the plot due to something that, upon having it explained to me, I thought sounded a lot like the World of Light scenario in the latest Super Smash Bros game (which was brand new at the time of this swap). That's largely unimportant, though, as it was just an excuse to shuffle GM in and player out. We then welcomed Gwyn, a Solar Sorcerer and a dangerously savvy and competent individual who Scarlet quickly took a shine to. Gwyn: You only want me for my mind, don't you? Scarlet: No, I totally want your body too. Gwyn: Not helping. Next, we sailed out of the Wyld and we ended up docking in, uh, a bathhouse in WhiteWall. No, I don't know how exactly we managed this. The Wyld, it's a hell of a drug. Anyway, with Maxwell now having kicked his oxygen habit, we needed to inform his next of kin. A little somebody you might have heard me mention named Taiga. We were successful in finding her, and Volkenstein almost got his head punched off for it. After talking her down and explaining that they were merely the messengers of the bad news, Volkie went over to a fighting arena. Whereupon he decided to pick a fight with the biggest badass of the lot. While this was happening, we followed some rumors that lead to the town square where a little god was requesting strange items in return for miracles. Turns out this was a Solar Sorcerer named Malgigi the Violet. He was a total G, and threw in with us with minimal prodding once Scarlet name-dropped Valentinian. Back with Volk, the badass in question began using very specific fighting moves - what people who actually read the book would know as Dark Messiah martial arts charms. This is somewhat forgivable, on account that - really, how would he have known? - but it kind of set up a problem later on that he really should've known better, but I'll get to that in a little. Short of it was, he had the balance of his Four Humors (look it up) thrown into discord, resulting in his poops being cursed. Afterward, Malgigi assessed the situation and created a means to remove the curse, using acupuncture. Suffering only pins and needles (tee-hee), he was soon back in fighting form. Taiga also helpfully informed us that the next key to the One Piece was hidden in a massive vault, heavily guarded and under lock and key itself. Scarlet insisted she could not leave without it and the party, Taiga in tow to assist departed. By the way, there was this huge to-do about "how can you put a key into a safe?" and this honestly took longer than it should have for the party to parse. But since our current GM knew full well our greatest weakness was overthinking (on account Maxwell was dead and Volk wasn't used for intelligece tests), he got his chuckles. The funny part being that the puzzles he gave us in this weird-ass haunted bank... place... were either solved instantly between Gwyn and Scarlet or set us back an hour in real-time, no in-betweens. On our way out was when we really ran into trouble, because one of those aforementioned "Rivals of Volkenstein" appeared for the first time. Thing is, he arrived as an Abyssal, so Volk couldn't immediately recognize this fellow calling himself "The Jackal". The Jackal was kind enough to exposit his backstory for us, telling us how Volkenstein scarred his face by violently tearing off the mask of "El Amigo Grande". When he explained this, Volkenstein immediately agreed that was how it went down. Just a reminder: this guy continued to insist he was a Face. Gwyn and Scarlet knew there was trouble when The Jackal was absorbing the necrotic essence from the surrounding area, and both petitioned to run. At this point, however, The Jackal busted out his signature move - La Cucaracha Espada - which Volk decided he would just tank. Head-on. For those who aren't super steeped in Exalted lore, let me explain. Necrotic essence is bad for living tissue. This lead to an age-old addage "Curse my poops once, shame on you. Curse my poops twice, you're a fucking dumbass." Having dropped like a sack of potatoes, Volk was out of the fight. Gwyn conjured a warp spell, which Scarlet assisted in dragging Volk closer for the escape (but only after suggesting that they could use Volkenstein as a sled to flee). The spell succeeded and we arrived back in front of Malgigi, who was deeply disappointed in a certain poop-cursed wrestle-man. Malgigi explained that the first curse-breaking ritual wouldn't work on something of this potency, and that the ritual required would involve a daicon radish being firmly inserted into Volkenstein's anus. And left for several days. He also recommended that Volk stop drinking, as the damage could be too much for his system to handle. This caused ol' Volkenstein to more or less just lay on his back and vomit for several weeks after. This was probably for the best. Because we needed to pursue the next potential key: the frozen north! Or, what would be the frozen north, but it was the Emerald Labyrinth of the Hazlanti League. Then all Hell broke loose. Because then we got out fourth member, Maxwell's successor, Magpie. I don't even remember Magpie's full name. Or even if she had one. Because that's not what we called her out-of-character. To us, she was Stockholm Dino Maiden: worst of all the punchmonkeys. The thing with Magpie... well, they were legion. To start, her backstory made no sense. She was supposed to have been raised by Arilack. For those who don't know, just imagine a big, predatory, dumb dinosaur. She's the patron of dinosaurs and reptile beasts. Alien, ancient, and not particularly a fan of humankind. For some reason, she found this little kabob of a human child and decided to do what anyone with a ham sandwich would do - teach it multi-variable calculus! So, that's the first problem. So with a backstory that makes no sense, she also had stats that made no sense: she was a Zenith caste with stats that of a Dawn caste. She was supposed to be playing a stupid barbarian but had Lore 3 (one higher than Scarlet, who actually DID have a formal education), dots in medicine (Why, though?!), was a tomb raider with a love of artifacts (WHY, THOUGH?!), was a gourmet chef (BUT WHY THOUGH?!), and the list goes on. In fact, I even gave Magpie an easy "out". I suggested she should be the little sister of a Lunar I made back in 2e, Victorious Carp of the Sky, who actually DID have a familial draconic motif. The character was well-liked and even made a cameo appearance in the previous campaign in one of Hell's arenas, where he battled a fellow fighter to a standstill (the only draw of the tournament which ended in a pair of new drinking buddies), and his mother had a draconic theme as well in her own right. It would've gone together like bread and butter and better explained her stats. So, naturally, her player rejected it outright. Gwyn wanted to venture into the woods to find a figure he called "Grandfather", an ancient and wizened entity who was held in high regard by Gwyn's people. He did find him too, but that didn't particularly go anywhere. Scarlet, Volk, and Maggie (brought along for metagame reasons, which I later rationalized as Scarlet wanting more "dumb muscle") had a narrow head-long collision with a massive, black, cylindrical, metal object that raced across the area. Things got a little hectic, and my memory of the next few events are... fuzzy. Consulting with Valentinian's player I am able to continue. Next, we met a powerful Lunar who acted as guardian and de facto leader of a small village, Esha Mae. She tasked us with retrieving a particular book for her, leading us back to town. Long story short, we obtained the book (which was a series of deeply politically satirical and pornographic cartoons) due to an exchange with a mysterious woman who looked a lot like Scarlet - it's important for me to mention at this point that Scarlet was raised by her uncle, Vermilion Mountain, as her parents (Verdant Wind and Azure River) and most of her extended family were killed when she was about 8 years old due to a sudden flu-like disease that ravaged her hometown in the Caul - who called herself Alabaster Albatross. No prize for guessing the relation, but that plotline never actually went anywhere anyway. Long story short: we did give Esha Mae (nicknamed just "Mae" by Scarlet, as she was wont to do) her book, but then the Albatross attacked using a massive steam cannon weapon. Upon firing, Magpie and Volkenstein managed the one (1) unambiguously awesome thing they pulled off the entire campaign and body-blocked the projectile. Scarlet battled with the Albatross, who was just way, way more powerful and upon dealing just the most glancing of blows, Scarlet was burdened by a large, dead bird lassoed around her neck. Alabaster Albatross taunted Scarlet and wished her the best of 'luck', which the albatross (lowercase) signified the opposite of. Then Magpie did something spectacularly dumb and summoned a Lord of Beasts, which ultimately sent Albatross (uppercase) and her weapon Team Rocket'ing over the horizon line. Then the Lord of Beasts basically told us to fuck off and blocked our number from his phone and stormed off, mumbling about the "kids these days". Consulting Malgigi once more for Scarlet's new predicament, he had us cobble together what amounts to a "Good Luck Potion". Managing that, Scarlet felt the need to 'test her luck' by... well, getting lucky. Which she did. With Mae. The next morning, Scarlet awoke to see Mae presenting her with an egg and declaring it their baby. Fucking Lunars, man, how do they even work?! Anyway, Scarlet charmed Mae into coming with them as a non-combat role on the crew and Scarlet began a new life as an engaged woman. Whew, this has gone on entirely longer than I expected, so let's stop here. Join me next time for: Valentinian dies in Boiling Magma and goes to Hell! Scarlet brutally murders yet another of her cherished circle-mates! Magpie is useless! Volkenstein becomes a thrown weapon! See you next time! *Quick note: Last time I screwed up "letter of MARQUE". I don't even know how I managed it, seeing as there's a sail charm with it right in its name. Ugh, I am so stupid sometimes.

27 with Joseph? (Abo maybe? Or whatever you prefer)
Hey, so Joseph Seed + children is a shitshow in canon! And this fic doesn’t ignore what happened in the canon lore! But it doesn’t go into any real detail so I feel if you could watch Joseph’s confession in game, the fic should not trigger anything. Be mindful of your own limits
Rook knew he’d pay for it sooner or later. Nothing comes without a price attached, especially when it comes to Eden’s Gate. He should’ve thought about it more, should’ve put more foresight into his stupid fucking actions that day in the church. Should’ve been more suspicious when he was able to get inside unnoticed or shot at. When Joseph turned and greeted him, smelling like heat and need, smile shaky but placid as he reached out for him.
He’s never let himself get lost like that. Never allowed the Alpha inside to take over in a such a way. Rook hadn’t thought about the future, hadn’t thought about anything except for Joseph underneath him and sinking into him over and over until neither of them could say anything but each other’s names. It’d been so long, his body unused to having an Omega underneath it, all pliant moves and sweet whines for more, that it hadn’t occurred that Joseph wouldn’t be like the others.
Every other Omega Rook had had was self-sufficient. Understanding that it was a nice time, but it was just the one time. None of them had wanted him for more than his knot and his company, content to part ways afterwards and keep in touch every so often.
Not Joseph. Never Joseph.
Now he’s back at the church, on his knees, stripped down to just his pants with his hands behind his head. And Jacob Seed’s pistol inches from his temple.
Joseph is pacing in front of him, John a silent statue behind the pulpit, Faith giggling under her breath every so often at his side like this whole thing is too fucking funny to her.
“I’m sure you’re wondering why we’ve all gathered.” Joseph says softly, finally coming to a stop in front of him.
Rook eyes Jacob’s pistol, unwavering and aimed for a killing shot. “The thought crossed my mind, yeah.”
Joseph seems to swell from the inside, shoulders back, chin kicked up, eyes so bright behind his glasses Rook can see the glittering twinkle from where he is. His hands move slow, sliding up his thighs, over his hips, to rest gentle against his bare stomach--because Joseph Seed doesn’t ever like to wear fucking clothes, apparently. The exposed skin is a distraction, memories rising in Rook’s brain until the next words cause all thought processes to freeze and crash into rubble.
“I’m pregnant.”
Rook stops thinking. Stops breathing. It almost feels like his heart stops in his chest. The world crumbles around him, black trying to slink into his vision until Rook’s heart kick starts double time, racing under his skin, beating back unconsciousness. He opens his mouth, shuts it when words refuse to come, stares at Joseph’s stomach under the long length of his fingers.
He knows how it went last time there was a baby born to the Seed family. Knows what happened. How Joseph justified it to himself. Rook had been horrified, but removed. Not his child, not his trauma to bear.
This is his kid. His blood. Wylde genes in something that isn’t even really a person yet, probably just a bunch of cells with potential.
“I’ll take it. I’ll take it the second you give birth. You don’t have to do shit, never have to see it again.” He’s babbling, thoughts disconnected, running at mach speed through his brain. “Just don’t--don’t. Not to my fucking kid.”
“Oh, Rook,” Joseph breathes, going down to his knees too, reaching out towards him.
It’s only the bump of Jacob’s pistol against his head that has Rook remaining in place, not pulling away from Joseph’s hold. He cups the back of his head, presses their foreheads together in a nauseatingly familiar gesture. It seems like he knows what’s going on in Rook’s head, like he knows the terrible, horrible possibilities flashing up in his mind.
“No, Rook, no, no, no. That was--this is different. God took what was not mine to have because He knew I would one day have this. Have you. What is not ours in life to have is not permitted, God will find a way to rip it from our hands. But I have been Told and I have Seen. This child...this is a child meant to be. Meant to be raised by us, together, and walk into Eden’s Gate at our side.”
God didn’t take shit, Rook wants to howl, to scream at the top of his lungs. You did! You took something from someone else because you were too fucking weak to deal. To sack the fuck up and be halfway decent for once in your life.
The thought, though, gives him pause. Stops the words in his throat before he can let them free.
“You are weak.” Words repeated over and over, judgement coming down on him and anyone else that doesn’t pass muster.
He twists his head, turning in Joseph’s grip, looking up at Jacob. Not the leader, but the eldest. Devoted to his brothers until the end of time now that he has them back.
Devoted to his family.
“Promise me, Jacob.” He snarls, the Alpha inside him raging at the thought of asking another for help, for backup. “Fucking swear it to me that you’ll protect whatever child Joseph is having. Protect it from everything in this world. Or I’ll take that gun and I’ll end this shit myself and then your baby brother is gonna be a single parent whenever your fabled end of the world comes.”
Jacob looks at Joseph. Looks back at him. Bares his teeth in a snarl that says he’s not happy about the corner Rook’s backed him into. But his eyes are clear and hold Rook’s gaze, steady and unwavering.
“I promise.”
Rook sags in relief, lets Joseph huddle him in close. It feels like his world is breaking apart around him but it’s...alright. It’s okay. The Resistance will be okay without him, he’s given them enough of a foothold. He might see them again, one day. But for right now, nothing in this universe is going to tear him from Joseph’s side.
“You should be happy,” John spits from behind Joseph’s shoulder, hands clenched tight at his side. “You’re going to be a father. Crack a smile for us, Deputy.”
“Go fuck yourself.” Rook tells him, but he opens his arms. Lets Joseph tuck himself in close, chest to chest, stomach to stomach.
He doesn’t love Joseph Seed. Not even during the heat, when they were both all instinct and want and lust, did he love him. But Rook...wants something like a family. Wants something far away from his parents and brother that he can call his own. Wants to show Joseph that a family can be more than angry shouting and a fearful existence. That it can be warm and loving and comforting like nothing else in this world is.
If Joseph is presenting the opportunity, maybe he can learn to love him. Or at least learn to be content with what he has.
But if this is God’s plan for Rook Wylde, he’s gonna have some strong ass words with Him when he finally gets up to Heaven.

Hidden History of the Stormlands: Lost Lore
 Letter #1: Durran the Devout's return of the Rainwood did not lack for consequences however given that it led to a long, bloody rebellion by Houses Wylde and Mertyns, both of which had been granted choice lands there by his father, the Godsgrief, himself. In the face of this threat the pious but ineffective king was forced to seek the aid of the Children themselves, an act which made the already deeply unpopular king even more hated and nearly cost him his life as well as his throne when the rebellion culminated in a great battle just outside the walls of Storm's End called by the singers the First Storm given that the battle allegedly turned in the king's favor when a great storm sent by the Old Gods broke out.
 Letter #2: Small wonder then that upon the reconquest of the Rainwood a century later by Durran Bronze-Axe few mourned when he put to the sword (or in this case axe) so many captured Children, that Greenpool, where the last battle had been fought, forever became known thereafter as Redpool for all the blood spilled that day though neither House Mertyns nor House Wylde were granted the lost lands they coveted. (As an aside Redpool's former name should not be confused with Greenpools in the Reach.)
 Letter #3: Durran the Dour (either as Durran V or VI) slew Lun the Last, King of the Giants, in the great Battle of Crookwater, putting an end to nearly a generation of war between the two races for control of the Red Mountains and its foothills, from which the Giants were forced to flee, leaving behind so many bones that the main pass was said to still be bleached white decades later. Thus, did the Boneway earn its name. As for Durran the Dour himself if the singers are to be believed he did not long enjoy his victory, dying of his wounds shortly afterwards with a familiar scowl on his face, half his body broken and maimed.
 Letter #4: Durran the Ravenfriend, who was said to spy on his subjects through the eyes of two ravens, one black, one white, oversaw the founding of Stonedance  but his motives in this matter as well as those of his good-father, Lord Maldon Massey, himself, including the question of whether the latter was convinced or coerced to take up ownership of what would then become known as Massey's Hook, remain in dispute to this day.
 Letter #5: Durran the Young at the age of fourteen turned back a Dornish invasion led by King Yoren Yronwood and the warrior maid Wylla of Wyl in the Battle by the Bloody Pool, killing so many that the river Slayne was dammed with the corpses of the Dornishmen, a feat which earned him the sobriquet "Butcher Boy" as well as the fealty of House Swann...But was he also the very same King Durran who later in life became besotted with his own niece and died at the hands of his brother, Erich Kin-Killer, at a drunken feast inside Storm's End? This question, and many more (such as whether Morden I, Qarlton I, or Maldon I was the first Storm King to face the Gardeners in battle at Nightsong) will likely never be answered with any definitive proof sadly.
 Letter #6: More certainty exists for later monarchs though. We can say with little hesitation that the great island kingdom of Tarth fell under the sway of the Durrandons when the daughter of Edwyn Evenstar, Jocelyn Tarth, was taken to wife by Durran the Fair, so known not for his appearance, which, according to the singers, made death (later identified with the Stranger) itself flee in terror when he was born during a plague that claimed the rest of the royal family, but rather to his love of law and peace. Alas, that good king later perished in a grotesque mishap whilst attending a ball in his honor on Tarth, which, depending on whether he was Durran VIII or Durran IX, might have been murder though no source gives us a culprit or a clear motive as to why.
 Letter #7: Certainly, his son and successor, Erich I or II Durrandon, saw it that way however, given the fact he is said to have sacked Tarth in response despite the protests of his mother, the dowager queen, who he had confined to a tower cell for the remainder of her days after she attempted to depose him in favor of his younger sister, Mary of the Sad Smile, when he conscripted under penalty of death half the remaining people of Tarth for the construction of what is now called the Weeping Town after Garse II declared the Stormlands to be "a kingdom without cities and culture" at a ball the Red Stag unexpectedly attended. (Once the only city in the Stormlands the Weeping Town lost its charter following its implication in the Andali Pauper's Plot against Ormund II and though Maldon III would later grant it a new one the Weeping Town has never regained its former status.)
 Letter #8: His son, also named Erich (most likely thus Erich III), would in turn follow his father's example, building up a great fleet with which to claim Estermont as well as the lesser isles further south, thus earning the title "Sailmaker", though it is one he would come to rue in his old age for the rest of his reign was thereafter one of constant war as he was forced to sail from one battle to another against both rebels as well as pirates out of the Stepstones and Dorne.
 Letter #9: The height of the Durrandons' power prior to the coming of the Andals then followed with the reigns of Durran X, who extended his writ to the southern shores of the Blackwater Rush after turning back an invasion from the Reach by King Perceon I Gardener at the Battle of Nightsong after convincing Lord Roland Caron to change his allegiance in exchange for recognition of his claim to be Lord of the Marches, and his son, Monfryd I, known as "the Mighty" after marching north of the Blackwater to conquer the prosperous port towns of Duskendale and Maidenpool, the latter of which's fall brought the Storm King into conflict with the Fisher King of the Trident and culminated in the supposedly magical Battle of the Misty Isle, sometimes called the Battle in the Gods Eye, where Monfryd I himself slew both Jon IV Fisher as well as his boon companion, Harry Bracken and his twin, Benedict Bracken.
 Letter #10: With the strange death of Monfryd I a decade later whilst hunting in the Rainwood (which some took as proof that he had indeed been cursed by his last foe as he lay dying at the Storm King's feet) however a terrible decline began for Monfryd I's only son and child, another Durran (XI), was lackwit (if his being called "the Dim" is to be believed) and thus all his father's gains were undone during his reign as the Storm King's regents quarreled for control of his royal person.
 Letter #11: Worse, his son in turn would lose even more lands his grandfather had fought for though in the case of Barron the Beautiful it was not for a lack of trying. A genial and handsome young man by all accounts Barron had since childhood been betrothed by the formidable dowager queen, Joy Whitehead, to a daughter of Lord Royce Connington. As a result his abduction (and later seduction) by the wild Dornish princess, Arianne Fowler, who is said to have become smitten with him at first glance whilst on a raid that left a quarter of the Rainwood in flames, lead to a complete collapse of all order within the Stormlands, with King Garse III Gardener overrunning the Marches, all of which culminated in the long, sad reign of Durwald I (the Fat), who presided over the nadir of Durrandon power and would witness before his death from a burst belly the Masseys break away, Tarth thrice revolt, and the Rainwood rise in rebellion for the better part of a generation under the command of a charismatic woods witch known to us only as the Green Queen.
 Letter #12: For this reason, thousands of years later, many and more of the smallfolk of the Stormlands, even the meanest and humblest amongst them, still boast of royal blood, a fact which troubled the Storm Kings of old more than once in the form of rebellions whenever they sought to raise taxes or invent new ones, as Durwald II, Morden III, Durran XIV, and Maldon II, together known as the Trade Kings, learned to their great frustration in the years following the reign of Ronard the Bastard, the first of three such men to sit the throne, though of those only Ronard was legitimated in his lifetime (by his predecessor, Morden II).
 Letter #13: What then occurred has been termed by the Maesters the Time of Erich for the next four Storm Kings all bore that name though none of these men were similar to one another in any regard. Thus, we have Erich IV, a half-mad warrior with one eye who was said to fight outlaws with a magic weirwood spear and (allegedly) no armor. Erich V, who ruled for a century and struggled (in vain) all that time to bring his fractious people together. Erich VI, a bawdy eccentric who supposedly sired an army of tax collectors out of his breeches on no less than two dozen wives and finally, Erich (VII) the Unready, who paid no heed to the landing of the Andals in the Vale, caught up as he was in his wars with the Dornish king Olyvar Yronwood as well as the infamous pirate king Justin (Milk-Eye) Massey, whose father, Adrian, had made a fortune ruining trade between the Weeping Town, Lys, and Tyrosh.
 Letter #14: Though the Storm Kings won half a dozen major battles--the greatest of these being the Battle of Bronzegate (called by some Maesters the First Battle of Bronzegate on account of the Last Storm) in which Monfryd V Durrandon defeated the Holy Brotherhood of the Andals, an alliance of seven petty kings and war lords, at the cost of his own life--the longships kept coming.
 Letter #15: An even more unlikely alliance, between King Cleoden I and three Dornish kings, following a lengthy series of betrothals, minor border adjustments, and a rejected missive to Highgarden, won an even more telling victory over Drox the Corpse-Maker on the river Slayne near Stonehelm a generation later.
 Letter #16: During the reign of Durran XXII House Dondarrion was founded following a great victory in the aftermath of an attempted renewal of the Dornish Alliance as well as the Weirwood Alliance, both of which met with failure as by this point the Andals had also begun to make landfall in the south and the Children were so few in number that they could not risk open battle once again. His son and heir, Durran XXIII, meanwhile, would die during one of the Seven Sieges (and Stormings) of Storm's End, though which one is still an issue of much debate given the chaos of those times.
 Letter #17: History tell us however that ultimately it would not be the meaningless victories and alliances of House Durrandon that would prevent the fall of the Stormlands to the Andals but rather the tenacity of its proud smallfolk, who took it upon themselves to drive off the invaders when it became clear that the Father-King (as they called Durran's Heir) could not though the price they paid in blood and gold was so high that some Maesters today wonder whether it would have been better had they simply yielded to the fair-haired invaders instead, a question the Dornish would later ask too when Aegon the Conqueror and his descendants made war upon them from atop the back of dragons.
 Letter #18: In the end the two war-weary sides simply came together, albeit in a rather fitful and violent manner. Indeed, given the differences in tongue and faith as well as the fact that the Andals outnumbered the First Men six to four (not to mention the legendary stubbornness of the Stormlanders themselves) it is hardly surprising that many on both sides at the time saw these unions as treason more often than not though over the course of generations they would prove their worth by producing such renowned houses as Cafferen, Staedmon, Morrigen, and Toyne to name but a small few.
 Letter #19: Durwald III and Morden IV continued the (unpopular) policies of their father, Durran XXIV (Half-Blood), encouraging intermarriage with the Andals, sponsoring the construction of septs, and taking Andals into their service, leading later to Cleoden II, the son of Ormund III, to sever the Stormlands' last ties to First Men culture during his reign by adopting the Common Tongue as the language of his court and kingdom and in so doing rekindled conflict, with the Wars of Faith, as these are known in the Stormlands, lasting for centuries, leaving the kingdom dangerously weakened when Gyles III Gardener sought to conquer it from Durran XXV, who, being quite old already, did not long outlive his foe, and so the throne passed to his great-grandson, Morden V, whose ascension would mark the beginning of a slow, painful recovery of the Stormlands following which the Durrandons became the most active of the Seven Kingdoms in seeking to expand its borders albeit without ever making many alliances to that end for the memory of Garth Goldenhand’s victory over Durran (XII) the Defeated and Jaime (I) “Hotspur” Lannister lived long in the minds of men.
 Letter #20: In the era that followed prior to the reign of Arlan I, Durran the Third (in truth Durran XXVIII), seized power during the civil war known as the Year of the Three Durrans and died trying twice to invade Dorne upon its unification under Nymeria, wars which went so badly that thereafter for centuries the Durrandons kept their eyes only on their own lands (with the exception of Monfryd VII and his son, Qarlton IV's intervention in Martell attempts to seize control of the Stepstones in alliance with Tyrosh) until the reign of Cleoden III, great-grandfather of Arlan I (the Avenger), who ended this practice and died in a chaotic melee against a combined Reach-Dorne army led by the brave Lord Perwyn Peake on the Stormway (built by Baldric II to connect Storm's End to the Weeping Town as well as Stonehelm) shortly after he established the Order of the Stag in response to the Gardener's Order of the Green Hand, half of whom would later perish fighting the imperialist "tigers" of Volantis under Argilac the Arrogant and the other half alongside that selfsame monarch at the battle known to history as the Last Storm.
 Letter #21: His son and heir, Erich VIII, in the aftermath of this, surprised all by convincing Highgarden to forsake its alliance with Sunspear and espouse him instead but even the combined might of the Stormlands and the Reach could not break the will of the Dornish though so much blood was shed on the southern sands that they became forever known as the Red Dunes, which had the unforeseen consequence of driving the then-Prince of Dorne, Mors V, so mad with grief that he threw himself from the top of the Spear Tower to his death, leaving behind such a mess that it took his son, Morgan II, three generations to restore Dorne to its pre-war prosperity.
 Letter #22: As a result of this failure, which each side blamed the other for, the Stormlands and the Reach both set aside their quarrel with Dorne so as to go to war with one another instead in a conflict that would last a generation and a half before ending at Cider Hall with the Battle of Three Kings, where King Garse VI Gardener slew Ormund IV Durrandon with the Valyrian steel sword, Thorn, only to be slain in turn by the Storm King's son, Ormund V, who then died at the hands of the Red Fox, Ser Andrew Florent, Lord Commander of the Order of the Green Hand, who was known in his lifetime as much for his skill with sword and lance as for his unusually big ears (even by the standards of his house).
 Letter #23: Arlan II, following in his father's footsteps, attempted an invasion of the Reach after spending a season pacifying the Red Mountains and another moon the Sea of Dorne, putting Highgarden itself under siege for a year's time before dying suddenly of an arrow through the throat while inspecting a siege engine. A subsequent attempt by House Gardener to take advantage of the confusion and dismay this caused met a bloody end however at the Battle of Ashford, where the newly-crowned Cleoden IV threw them back with heavy losses and saved his grandfather's victories, after which he received an annual tribute of ten thousand gold pieces for the rest of his reign as well as the hand of a Gardener princess in exchange for peace. (Perhaps here would be the best place to mention that the identity of the one who shot the arrow that killed Arlan II remains unknown. Some sources attribute it to a nameless lowborn archer, others to Lord Edwyn Fossoway or Lady Bethany Caswell, who, in her time, was said to be feared from Stoney Sept to the Twins as the Black Centaur.)
 Letter #24: With the death of Arlan III as well as the loss of his Valyrian steel sword, Stormbreaker, however, an inevitable decline began, the worst part of which started a century and a half later with the death of Arlan IV in a sea battle outside the walls of Gulltown after his predecessor, Erich IX, had failed to conquer the Bloody Gate and subsequently all three of his sons (Erich X, Baldric III, Maldon V)  dying within seven years of each other. This was in turn followed two generations later by the deaths of Kings Durran XXX in a battle with the Reach and Durran XXXI in a battle with Dorne on the same day, known in the Stormlands as the Day of Disaster. In such a manner did the Kingdom of the Storm diminish, year by year, battle by battle, king by king, with no end or hope in sight for the once-proud Lords of Durran's Defiance until a fierce warrior prince, Argliac, donned the Stag's Crown but even a man as mighty as he could not turn the tide, only hold it back. This, Argilac, last of the Durrandon, last of the Storm Kings, did for a time...
