Fluff, Romance, Blind Dates, Light Angst
Summary: Tired of a non-existent love life, Hitoka agrees for Kiyoko to arrange a blind date for her. But she soon realizes what a mistake that could turn out to be. Going on a blind date with a member of the team is just asking for heartbreak... right?
Howdy, all! Here’s my story for the Karasuno Big Bang! Couldn’t miss a golden opportunity to write my favorite Haikyuu!! ship, TsukiYachi <3 A big thanks to my beta @yayumecreates for making the story that much more wonderful with their edits, and of course, go give some love to my partner @watmels for her beautiful art!
Cherry blossom petals swirled in the breeze, whirling around the two of them in a tumultuous frenzy. The soft petals fluttered through the gossamer waves of her hair as if to press tender kisses into the strands. Yet they were not nearly as soft as his hands as they held hers tenderly, nor the warmth in his eyes as they gazed intently into her own.
“I’m serious!” he gasped, exasperation flooding his cheeks the color of the cherry blossoms. “I lo—”
“What are you reading?”
Hitoka jumped nearly a foot off the bench, a shriek exploding from her lips. She clutched the novel to her chest while she half-fell, half-rose, then whirled around on unsteady feet. Leaning over the back of the bench, Kiyoko frowned curiously at her.
“Sorry,” Hitoka’s upperclassmen quipped through slightly pursed lips. “I didn’t mean to startle you. You just seemed so into it…” Her gaze fell to the book, and the illustration of a romantic couple on the front partially obscured by Hitoka’s trembling hands. Her eyebrow crept slowly up her forehead, accompanied by her lips curling into a smirk. “It couldn’t be that you’re reading something… indecent… at school, could it?”
“What?” Hitoka spluttered. “I-indecent? N-no, never, I-I—” She looked bashfully down at the novel, then gulped. Oh, it shouldn’t be as embarrassing as it was! She meekly turned the book around to show Kiyoko the front cover. “It’s just the newest romance novel everyone has been raving about…”
Kiyoko reached out to take the book from her so she could flip it around and skim the summary on the back. She nodded, then handed it back to Hitoka.
“Oh, I see. I thought as much, but you’re just so easy to tease. I had to,” the pretty third-year snickered.
Hitoka expelled a wan sigh. Yes, she knew she was easy to tease, especially about things like this. She just couldn’t help it! She was just such a hopeless romantic! She plopped back down on the bench, hugging the book to her chest again. Her heart was still pounding against its paperback shell… She hadn’t just been reading about a protagonist; she had imagined it was her. She had felt the wind plucking at her hair and clothes, felt the young boy’s hands holding hers in earnest…
Kiyoko crossed her wrists as she continued to lean against the bench, observing Hitoka keenly.
“If a simple teen romance novel is affecting you this much, then it must mean you really want a boyfriend, huh, Hitoka?”
Hitoka nearly fell off the bench again; it felt like Kiyoko’s blunt accusation literally speared her. A small groan rumbled in her throat. She could deny it, but what was the point? Kiyoko’s perception was keener than a hawk’s. Even if Hitoka did deny it, Kiyoko would just refute the denial with all the poignant coldness of a ruthless lawyer. So Hitoka sank into the bench, propping her forehead on Kiyoko’s arm with another, more miserable groan.
“You have no idea!” she lamented. She turned so that her cheek was pressed against the older girl’s arm, giving her a clear view of her pathetic little pout. “I don’t know why, but lately, I’ve been so lonely and craving a relationship! Is that weird?”
“Of course it’s not weird,” Kiyoko smiled reassuringly down at her. “Wanting a relationship isn’t a bad thing at all.” When Hitoka groaned and buried her face back into Kiyoko’s arm, she tutted soothingly and stroked Hitoka’s hair. “Seems like you’re down bad, huh?”
“Yes, and there’s nothing I can do about it but read cheesy romance novels! But now, even those aren’t enough.” In a sudden fit of frustration, she kicked out her legs and banged her fists against the bench. “I want it, darn it! I want someone to hold my hand and kiss my cheek and tell me I’m pretty!” The vexation went as suddenly as it came, and she melted like the defeated pile of goop she was back into the bench. “But I just don’t have the courage to ask anyone…”
“Hmmm,” Kiyoko hummed thoughtfully. She idly played with Hitoka’s hair for a few minutes, alternating between curling the strands around her index finger and running her fingers through the blonde waves. Hitoka was so touch-starved that it felt mind-numbingly good; she was almost asleep and drooling by the time Kiyoko spoke again. “What if I set you up on a blind date?”
“A-a blind date?” Hitoka echoed.
“Yeah,” Kiyoko shrugged. “Just a no-strings-attached, one-time-only blind date. It’ll probably take the edge off, at the very least. Or, if it goes extremely well, it’ll solve your problem completely.”
It certainly presented a solution to her problem and removed the mortifying aspect of having to solve it herself… Though, a blind date was nerve-wracking in its own right. She wouldn’t have to worry about Kiyoko choosing someone incompatible with her, given that she knew Hitoka’s tastes; but, their friend circles were pretty much the same. Didn’t that mean that Hitoka would probably end up dating someone on the team? She did like all the boys, and so any one of them would probably at least offer an enjoyable distraction from her woes. But what if it ended badly? Hitoka was in a state of emotional vulnerability; she couldn’t rule out the possibility that she could end up projecting too much. She would hate to tarnish her friendship with any one of them.
“I don’t know, Kiyoko,” Hitoka frowned and scratched at the side of her head. Kiyoko just waited patiently for her to decide. Sure, things could go awry… but Hitoka couldn’t envision any of the boys completely avoiding her after an awkward date. And come on, there was no way that she could catch feelings for one of the guys over one little date. She could just have her night pretending she was in her own little romance story, and then boom—it ended, the credits rolled, and that was that.
Really, what did she have to lose? She looked back to Kiyoko, who smiled. “All right, I’m in. A blind date it is!”
“Glad to hear it,” Kiyoko said, her smile widening. “Watching you pine was beginning to grow painful.”
Hitoka slunk down into the bench with a mortified whine, and though she covered her burning face, she could still hear Kiyoko’s laughter echoing in the sunny courtyard…
Tumblr media
Okay, Hitoka. Just breathe. It’s just a date. No stress, no expectations—just go and have fun! Hitoka told herself as she stared anxiously into the mirror. She smoothed her sweaty hands down the front of her dress. She’d opted for something simple yet elegant—a white sundress with a pink ribbon and a bit of pink lace framing the hem of the skirt and sleeves. She’d paired it with some white flats, a pale pink handbag, and a white headband. Pretty cute, if she did say so herself. Yet she couldn’t help but feel nervous in the back of her mind. What if her date didn’t like her outfit? What if they were going somewhere fancier and now she was underdressed?
Her fretting was interrupted by the ring of her doorbell. Oh, goodness, no turning back now! she thought, frantically gathering up her purse before rushing to the door. She paused on the threshold to make sure that her hair wasn’t ruffled from her frenzied flight across the house, then took a deep breath. Okay. Let’s do this! Plastering a smile on her face, she opened the door.
“Hey, Yacchan,” Kei smiled shyly.
Hitoka couldn’t help but gape at his tall, slender frame crowding her doorway. She honestly hadn’t been sure what to expect, but the sight of Kei Tsukishima standing at her door dressed up in some nice slacks and a button-up shirt was probably the most surprising result that could have been borne of this situation. She never would have expected him to agree to this. But here he was, leaning against the post on her porch with his thumbs hooked into the pockets of his slacks. She quickly closed her mouth before her gawking could become embarrassing, then bashfully held her purse out in front of her while she smiled coyly.
“Hey, Kei. So… you’re my date for the night?” she asked. She slowly swung her shoulders from side-to-side to try and channel some of the nervous energy building up inside of her. But it was a good sort of nervousness now, that anticipation that made her toes tingle and her lips continuously twitch into a smile. She liked Kei. He was handsome, and despite his kind of prickly personality, he was nice, too. She was sure this would be fun.
“Sure am,” he nodded in affirmation. He pushed himself off the post, and Hitoka’s heart thumped in her chest when he offered his hand to her. “Shall we get going?” With a bashful nod, Hitoka extended her hand to place her hand in his. His fingers were rough from playing volleyball, calloused and coarse; but they still felt nice against her smooth skin.
Kei guided her down her porch and to the sidewalk. His fingers remained curled loosely in hers as they set off at a pleasant pace towards the city, and it kept Hitoka’s heart thumping wildly against her ribs.
“S-so… Where are we going?” Hitoka probed while shyly peering at Kei out of the corners of her eyes. She never would’ve thought she would consider how Kei approached dating, but now it was all she could think about. Did he prefer more traditional methods of dating, like movies or cafés? Or did he tend to think out-of-the-box?
Kei’s eyes were glittering when he looked at her.
“It’s a surprise,” he said with a wry smirk. Hitoka poked out her cheeks in indignance. Oh, that was a classic move to get her heart going, but now she was dying to know!
“Sorry,” he chortled at her discontented expression. “It’s not that far of a walk, so just be patient.” With that, he looked forward again.
“Okay, okay…” Hitoka begrudgingly relented, puffing out the air she had locked into her cheeks. Kei was probably the most stubborn of all the Karasuno boys, at least when it came to keeping his mouth shut. She couldn’t just bat her eyelashes at him and have him spilling his guts like most of the others. She would just have to trust that their destination really was close and that the anticipation wouldn’t eat her alive before they got there…
Despite herself, Hitoka couldn’t help but bite her lip to suppress the giddy smile forming on her lips. This was everything she’d dreamed of; one couldn’t possibly describe the atmosphere as anything other than romantic. The warm spring breeze swirling around them and smelling of blooming flowers, the sun splaying their shadows behind them as they walked, the occasional brushes of their arms from standing so close together as they strolled along, the comfortable silence in the air as their fingers remained loosely linked together… Hitoka felt like she really was the star of her own cute shoujo novel, complete with hearts and sparkles and cute pink bubbles bursting from her body in a glowing aura!
“We’re here.”
Kei’s voice snapped her out of her blissful daydreaming. She hadn’t even realized they’d stopped walking, but there they were, standing in front of a small cream-colored building situated between a flower shop and a café. Hitoka definitely recognized the area of town, but she didn’t think she’d ever been to this place before.
“‘Brushstrokes’?” she questioned, reading the vinyl stickers on the tinted black window dominating the left side of the storefront. It was in a swirly, elaborate font that blended with a stylized illustration of a dripping paintbrush. “Is this some kind of crafts store?” she guessed, turning to look inquisitively up at him.
“Why don’t we just go in and find out?” he smirked back. Without waiting for Hitoka to answer, he tugged her over to the front door. When he stepped away from her to open the door, his fingers slipped from hers; she admittedly lamented the loss of delicate contact. However, the dejection was fleeting, replaced by a rush of wonder as Hitoka crossed the threshold and entered the store.
Hitoka had been in numerous crafts stores throughout her life, given both her own and her mother’s interest in the arts. While their primary interest was graphic design, they sometimes got the urge to get hands-on with their projects; they had a well-stocked crafts room full of paints and canvases, sketchbooks and pencils, markers, oil pastels, scrapbooking paper, and all manners of odds and ends. That being said, her mother preferred to shop at nice, neat chain craft stores. This was clearly not one, and the difference had Hitoka reeling.
Rather than sanitized white walls and tiles with orderly rows of shelves, Brushstrokes was bursting with color. The dark wood floors were blanketed in plush rugs with all manners of patterns and mandalic designs. The walls were painted a bright sky blue, but Hitoka could barely see them with all the canvases, metalworks, drawings, watercolors, tapestries, and various other bits and bobs plastered all over them. All of the craft supplies were arranged on bookshelves, ceiling-high lining the walls aside from two corners—one being the cashier’s desk and the other being a small lounge with two plush armchairs and a coffee table on which coloring books were piled high. The center of the store was dominated by three rows of chairs and blank canvases on easels facing a small platform, on which another blank easel sat.
“Ahh! You signed us up for a painting class?” Hitoka squealed with delight, clapping her hands together and jumping up and down a little in her excitement. When she glanced up at Kei, her eyes gleaming, he just shrugged nonchalantly. The bashful smile pulling at his lips, though, betrayed how pleased he was with Hitoka’s excitement.
“Yes. I happened to see an advertisement for it, and it looked like something you would enjoy.”
Hitoka’s heart swelled with affection and appreciation. He’d seen the advertisement and immediately thought of her? The notion was sweet enough to give her cavities; she could practically feel her teeth rotting out of her head. It wouldn’t have mattered if all her teeth had truly been black and decayed and rancid; the demure smile she gave him was still wide and full of joy, which made Kei’s own smile even brighter.
“Come on, they should be starting soon. Let’s grab a spot,” he said, quickly turning away. Hitoka hid a giggle behind her hand. Kei could try and hide his happy blush all he wanted; she could still see his ears, burning bright red.
They settled at a pair of chairs in the middle—not too far away from the instructor’s canvas to have difficulty seeing, but not so close as to potentially be uncomfortable. A pair of aprons, splattered with layers upon layers of paint from classes past, already hung on the chairs’ backs. Hitoka grabbed it and looped it over her head, but when she went to tie the strings around her back, she found that Kei’s deft fingers had already retrieved them.
“Allow me,” he murmured behind her, and a pleasurable shiver traveled up Hitoka’s spine at the feeling of his breath puffing down at the top of her head. She never really registered how much bigger he was than her; but now that they were so intimately close, it was all she could think about. She was keenly aware of his broad chest behind her head, of one of his thick and long legs sliding closer to hers when he had to stoop a little, of the fact that even with him leaning down she could tilt her head all the way back and peer into his face. It was dizzying and exhilarating, so much so that when she felt Kei’s fingers tie the knot of the apron at her back and slip away, she was a little breathless though it had probably been less than ten seconds.
“T-thank you,” she mumbled bashfully, sinking down into the chair before her legs could completely turn to jelly and give out on her. She was glad for it, too, because she felt her mouth go dry at the sight of Kei’s apron closely hugging his frame. She’d never noticed because he tended to wear baggier clothing, but he was actually quite muscular. Her eyes slowly roved from the broad planes of his chest to the way his dress shirt wrapped tightly around his arms—when had he buttoned his sleeves at his elbows?—and finally back up to his face.
A hot flush followed by a cold rush pulsed through her, for Kei was smugly smirking.
“Yes, Yacchan?” he asked expectantly. Oh, the devilish glint in his eyes should not excite her this much.
Get a grip, Yacchan! This is Kei you’re talking about! The fact that she had been practically salivating over a guy she knew well was downright mortifying, and she almost buried her face into her hands. She had to be careful; she was beginning to lose herself in the illusion. But she also couldn’t let Kei know for sure that she had been ogling him, so she quickly recovered, tearing her gaze from him to look out at the blank easel on the platform.
“I was just wondering what kind of painting they’re gonna have us do!” she exclaimed, much louder than socially acceptable in her agitated state. A few others had arrived at the class, and they turned in their chairs to s   quint at Hitoka. Red-faced, she ducked down behind the safety of her easel. Worst of all the eyes on her were Kei’s; she could feel his piercing stare burning into the side of her head. She meekly peered out of her peripheral vision to see him leaning a cheek in his hand while he smirked in amusement.
Well, I suppose we’ve solved the schoolyard mystery of how confident Kei Tsukishima would be on a date. Frighteningly so! she lamented with an inward sigh.
“Actually, they hold painting classes every afternoon and evening. You sign up for whatever painting you want to do,” Kei explained.
“Oh?” Hitoka said, and the tiredness in her own voice made her cringe. Being all afluster sure was exhausting; how did these romance protagonists do it? Still, the frantic beating of her heart was settling and the blush was fading from her skin, allowing her to turn to face him properly. Her heart only jumped a little when she did, thankfully. “So what painting did you sign us up for?”
Kei opened his mouth to answer—probably to tell her it was a surprise again—but shut it when someone else spoke first, a cheerful greeting. They both peeked around their easels to see the instructor walking up onto the stage, a canvas tucked under each arm. The one facing the audience was blank; the other had to be the masterpiece which they were to create. The instructor set her blank canvas on the easel, then pulled up a nearby stool to prop the painting up on it.
“A… A dinosaur?” Hitoka drawled. She blinked, but the image painted upon the canvas did not shift. Sure enough, it was a cartoonish rendition of a brontosaurus munching on a branch, all doe-eyed and adorable. Now that Hitoka scanned the crowd, she found it mostly to be occupied by mothers and their young children. Hitoka slowly turned to look at Kei, who had his head pressed down against the table and covered by his arms.
“... I like dinosaurs,” Kei admitted gruffly, and she could hear the mortification bleeding into his words. Hitoka laughed, prompting Kei to shift his arms just enough to see Kei’s uncertain eyes peering up at her.
“No, no, don’t be embarrassed!” she reassured. “It’s perfect. It’s cute, so I like it, and it’s a dinosaur, so you like it. I think we’re very lucky they were offering a painting like this to do.”
“Yeah?” Kei said as he pushed himself up into a sitting position, smile lopsided and hopeful on his face. When Hitoka nodded, he breathed deeply out of his nose. “I’m glad you like it,” he said simply, but there was something about it and his warm gaze that had Hitoka squirming in her chair. If she didn’t know any better, Kei was really happy that found his love of dinosaurs endearing. She tried not to think about it, for she simply didn’t know if her poor heart could take the possible implications.
Remember, it’s just to take the edge off.
Thankfully, the task at hand was not conducive for a wandering mind. The instructor jumped right in, prattling directions while her skillful hands painted the silhouette of the brontosaurus’ pale green body across the canvas. Hitoka, having no short amount of experience with paint, only half-listened to the woman; the finished piece was a sufficient enough guide for her. Within two minutes, Hitoka was already starting to paint the triangular scales upon the creature’s back, while the rest were still working on the base colors. Hitoka glanced over at Kei’s canvas, and the force of the laughter that burst from her lungs almost made her smear a line of dark green paint across her half-finished work.
Tumblr media
“Oh my goodness!” she exclaimed, both wanting to look away for Kei’s sake but simply unable to do so. For what occupied Kei’s canvas was not the blocky outline of a brontosaurus, but some big-headed, snake-necked chunky potato blob.
“Stop laughing,” Kei growled at her. Normally, his piercing stare and firm scowl would have her squeaking like a mouse in a cat’s claws. His abysmal skills were simply too hilarious, however; there was just no room for intimidation with the sheer amount of amused glee Hitoka contained. “I’m serious. It’s not funny,” he grunted, then turned his paintbrush to dab spring green paint on Hitoka’s cheek.
The feeling of the wet paintbrush smearing over her skin was enough to bring Hitoka back to reality. That didn’t stop her from chuckling, though, as she grabbed a paper towel and dabbed the splotch off paint off her face.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” she apologized through giggles. “It’s just—I guess with you signing us up for this class, I didn’t expect you to be a—ahem, a beginner.”
Despite her careful choice of words, Kei still narrowed his eyes at her. Hitoka sucked her lips into her mouth to keep another burst of laughter from springing free. She’d made the mistake of looking at the nearby canvases, and some of the little kids’ renditions were too similar to Kei’s. He held up the paintbrush in warning, and she dug her fingernails into her legs hard enough to leave marks in her effort to keep from bursting into laughter again.
And that’s how it went. At the beginning of all this, Hitoka had been so jarred by the fact that this was Kei Tsukishima she was on a blind date with, doing something no one would ever associate with the aloof and intimidating guy. She’d expected to be constantly barraged by a feeling of unnaturalness. The reality was anything but. It felt wholly and completely natural to Hitoka—the light in his eyes as he talked with her, the constant smile on his lips, the way his chair snuck closer and closer until their legs were pressed together… The way her heart thrummed in her chest the entire time, coupled with the sneaking suspicion that his heart was doing the same thing.
The realization that she’d been on a date with Kei only snuck back into her mind when they were walking up her driveway, their finished paintings tucked under their arms and their pinkies looped loosely together between them. Hitoka didn’t even know when that had happened; she’d been entirely engrossed in conversation with him the entire walk home. He must have slyly done it somewhere in the middle, and it had felt so natural to Hitoka—touching in some way—that she hadn’t even registered it consciously.
But it did now, and it made her face burn as an uncertain smile played over her lips.
“What is it?” Kei asked, stopping immediately to look at her in concern. His keen awareness—more so, the fact that he had probably been quite in tune with her reactions and body language this entire time—only made Hitoka flush further. Kei undoubtedly knew that this night had blurred the borders between platonic and romantic for Hitoka, but Hitoka didn’t know what side of the fence he had settled on. And that scared her.
She’d neglected to consider that a blind date with a friend came with the inevitable conclusion of rejection. It had to, right? At least with Kei. He was so utterly confident and poised throughout it all. Surely, if he’d harbored any interest in her before this, he would have asked her out already. Hitoka felt her heart sinking, falling like a rock through her chest to settle down in the soles of her feet. Kei had only done this to be nice, she realized with tears stinging her eyes. He had a soft spot for her as much as anyone else, and he’d done this to make her happy. But a soft spot was as far as his affection went.
She knew that coming in. But she’d underestimated the allure of the illusion, and now, she’d gone and set herself up for a disaster. There would be no happy ending for Hitoka. She couldn’t just turn off the movie and end the story. No, she’d jumped right out of the screen, and her story was spiralling out of control.
Hitoka sucked in a shaky breath, then quickly ducked her head from Kei’s view before he could see her tears reflect the yellow glow of the porchlight.
“Man, that was fun!” she cried as she made to march toward her front door, hugging her painting to her chest. “Man, I’m tired, though. I should get to bed. Thanks for a fun ni—Oh!”
Hitoka was once again struck by how much bigger and stronger Kei was than her, for it took no effort on his part at all to grab her by the arm and yank her back. Not hard, not painful—but firm, a silent warning that she wasn’t going anywhere without an explanation. She barely managed to plant herself in a part of the driveway bathed in shadow, and she meekly ducked her head as Kei loomed over her, breath falling into the strands of hair crowning her head like warm stardust.
“Yes, Yacchan?” It wasn’t like when he’d asked her earlier—smug, confident, amused by the effect he had on her. It was the total opposite. His voice dripped with uncertainty, the first sign of vulnerability she’d seen all night. It made Hitoka’s heart lurch with guilt, but it was too overshadowed by the fear of tarnishing their friendship for her to say anything. She really had enjoyed herself. She wanted to keep hanging out with him, learn more and more about him, just like everyone else.
If she made things awkward now, they would topple like dominoes, one after the other; if she ruined things with Kei here, she’d ruin it with all of them, and she would be left utterly alone. Hitoka didn’t want that. She’d rather spend the rest of her days trying to fill the void with romance novels, utterly deprived of that which she wanted dearly, than lose something she’d come to treasure so much.
She wanted it so much, and she wanted it with Kei—but she bit down on her lip anyway, teeth sinking into the soft flesh until blood beaded up at the points of her teeth. It was all she took not to spite Kiyoko for this unfortunate turn, but Hitoka couldn’t bring herself to do it. Kiyoko had been trying to cheer her up, give her a momentary reprieve from her problems. It’s not her fault that Hitoka went and caught feelings she shouldn’t have. Tomorrow, when Kiyoko asked how it went, Hitoka would laugh and say that it was a fun date and that was that. No heartbreak. No disappointment. No crushing realization that in the end, it had made the gaping wound of Hitoka’s loneliness that much deeper.
Hitoka opened her mouth to once again bid Kei goodnight, but the word froze in her throat when his hands suddenly cupped her cheeks.
It reminded her of when he had met her on her doorstep, taking his hand in hers. Rough palms, yet so soft and tender in the way they held her. Hitoka’s eyes watered again, and she couldn’t stop the tears from slipping free to roll down her cheeks, not even as Kei slowly lifted her face. She especially couldn’t stop them when she was met with his expression, so tortured that it made her heart twist with guilt. She hated that she was hurting him, and he hated that he was hurting her. But only because he wanted to protect her, right? With that same platonic, brotherly affection all the rest of her regarded her with. No more than that, nothing more—
Yet Hitoka had to know, even if she knew she wouldn’t like the answer, nor what came after.
“Why’d you agree to go on a date with me?” Once she’d blurted that out, everything else came tumbling out after, as much an unstoppable stream as her continuous tears. “Why? It’s just—of all people, I would have never expected—It can’t be because you really wanted this to amount to anything. Of course you didn’t, why would you? Because you don’t—”
Her stammery babble was ceased by Kei’s lips enveloping hers in a firm, open-mouthed kiss. Hitoka froze, and then suddenly she was melting, knees knocking together and hands falling on his chest and eyes fluttering shut. He stole it all from her—her breath, her strength, and most of all, her sea of swirling emotions—like he was drinking it straight from her own mouth, and Hitoka didn’t mind one bit. In fact, she mourned the loss of his soft lips against hers when he pulled back, involuntarily voicing so in a small, keening whine.
And there it was again, that smug little smirk that had Hitoka’s spine tingling like a live wire.
“The answer’s easy. I agreed to go on a date with you because I like you, Hitoka.”
Her heart somersaulted at him using her name, and even more at how good it sounded, rolling off his tongue like candy. Her cheeks were already warm with his hands pressed against them, but they flushed warmer still, heating up as his confession slowly registered in her mind. She swallowed, opened her mouth to speak, closed it when she couldn’t quite find what she wanted to say. Kei’s smirk acquired a bashful lilt, growing crooked as he tilted his head a little.
“I should have known that Tadashi would blab about it to someone, but I didn’t expect it to be Kiyoko-senpai,” he sighed with a mix of bitterness and amusement. “And I especially didn’t expect her to corner me after practice one day and threaten that if I didn’t agree to do this and make my move, she was gonna set you up with Shouyou.”
Hitoka’s mouth curled into a wan smile. Oh, Kiyoko truly was devilish, a master puppeteer of the woeful little marionettes that were the Karasuno volleyball team.
“So, I told her ‘over my dead body,’ and here we are,” Kei summarized, looking back down at her with a slightly apologetic look. “Though I regret to find that my relationship skills are probably even worse than my painting skills.” He moved his pinky finger to catch a tear that had beaded on Hitoka’s lashes, and his smile crumpled at it smearing over his skin. “I never dreamed that this would end with me making you cry.”
“Don’t apologize,” she insisted with a shake of her head. She reached up to grab onto his wrists; though they were slim, her fingers still couldn’t even make a complete ring around them. “I got way too in my head… I should have just come out and said what I was feeling.”
Kei hummed at that, a thoughtful gleam glinting in his eyes. Hitoka squirmed under the weight of his gaze, though it was a place she also very much liked being.
“I guess…” he drawled, and the slowness in the way he said it had Hitoka nearly bursting in anticipation. “Being honest about how we’re feeling is something we’ll have to get better at moving forward, isn’t it?” The purr rumbling in his chest—vibrating against Hitoka’s, for their bodies were still so close together—and the smoldering fire in his eyes as he gazed down at her was so distracting that it took Hitoka several seconds to realize what exactly he was implying.
“O-oh!” she exclaimed as soon as the puzzle piece clicked into place. Going forward—oh, goodness, he wanted them to be official? A thing? A couple? “O-oh, oh dear, Kei, I think I’m gonna faint,” she groaned, the epiphany sending her spiraling into lightheaded vertigo. Kei just laughed, curling one arm around her smaller frame to keep her on her feet, and used the opportunity provided by her head flopping back to lean down and press a tender kiss to her forehead. It seemed he was hell-bent on rendering her unconscious, for he followed up with a little peck to her nose, and finally a lingering kiss to her trembling lips.
When she mustered up the energy to grimace sourly at him, he just smirked, the cocksure bastard.
“Just being honest,” he teased.
Hitoka rolled her eyes and slapped weakly at his shoulder, but she made no effort to move. No, despite the whirlwind plot twist, she wanted to spend just a little more time in her debut story—a little more time in Kei’s warm embrace, in his strong arms and in his loving gaze. Even if she was stumbling blindly into the unknown… that made the adventure all the more exhilarating, didn’t it?

Lavender Detangler
Tumblr media
image was taken from @ hankaashi on pinterest
Synopsis: You are Nishinoya's older sister, the fearless, confident, and reliable manager... except when faced with your feelings with the team ace. As both of your high school years are going to be coming to a close, will one of you be able to say something about how you feel? Who will overcome their nerves first?
Warnings: reader has she/her pronouns, reader is described as being short because she's nishinoya's sister, language, karasuno being chaotic, season 4 spoilers, tooth-rotting fluff.
Author's Note: My old Asahi fic, as promised. This one is a bit longer and used to be on my old wattpad account some time ago. Asahi is one of my favorite hq characters, literally my baby. This one is pure fluff, and is a bit on the longer side. Also, this fic takes place during the events of season 4 so there are some spoilers in that sense, but nothing too major. Enjoy lovelies <3

___________________________________________________________
They did it. In your two years of being a manager for the Karasuno boys volleyball team, you probably would have never thought that the boys would beat Shiratorizawa, much less make it to nationals. And yet, even as you stared out at the Tokyo sky on the way to the inn, even as Asahi landed that last spike to push them through to the 2nd round, you still felt that little voice whisper in your head in complete awe and disbelief.
They did it.
After the game, the Karasuno gang packed up and headed back for the inn. Most of them took a nap or stared tiredly out the window. They were all exhausted from the thrill of their first game, and they should be. They fought hard and restlessly. The boys showed everyone watching in the stands today that they didn’t come here on some fluke, they came here because they are going to win.
That’s right. The entire damn tournament.
Takeda shouted from the front, breaking you from your thoughts. “We’re here everyone!” Hinata immediately jumped up from his seat and barreled full speed toward the front. Kageyama chased after him not much longer (probably because Hinata woke him up when he started running). You chuckled at the duo and slowly got up from your own seat in the front. As everyone else piled off you began making your way toward the back. You kind of made it your own job to wake anyone up once you’ve reached the destination on road trips.
You spotted Tanaka and Yuu dozing a few seats back. You silently made your way over to them, and started to shake Tanaka.
“Tanakaaaa, wake uuuup,” you sang while shaking his shoulder. He lazily opened his eyes and let out a yawn. You then reached over to poke at Yuu’s back which was turned to you as he wrapped himself around his duffel bag. “Come on Yuu.” You didn’t have to try that hard with Yuu. After all, you woke him up for school every day.
As you leaned back, Tanaka stretched his arms above his head and asked, “(Y/N)? Are we here?” You gave him a nod and moved out of the way for him to get up. Yuu was glaring at you from behind his seat.
“What’s wrong Yuu?” you asked, smirking. “Mad cause I woke you up?”
“I was having a good dreaaammm,” he whines.
“Whatever, just get your lazy ass up and let's head inside,” Tanaka drawls as he slaps Yuu upside the head.
“My lazy ass?” Yuu retorts. Yuu grabbed his duffel bag, and then returned a smack upside Tanaka’s head as they walked toward the front of the bus. “You were sleeping too!” Here they go again…
“Boys!” you yelled at them. They stopped. “Just get off the bus!” The libero and the wing spiker left without saying another word.
You sighed while shaking your head. You considered this your own role as a manager sometimes. Kiyoko was more of the quiet one that did her job well, Yachi was the newbie still getting used to the reins, and you were the one that kept the boy’s attitudes in check (yes, even Daichi sometimes).
You still remember back when you were about halfway through your first year as a manager. You were a second-year at the time. There was a day when the boys were so rowdy that not even the old Coach Ukai could calm them down. You must had been on your period or something that day, because you got so mad at them. All of a sudden, you had started scolding them for their attitudes and lack of respect, telling them that they needed to represent Karasuno High School the right way. It scared the team a bit. Their tiny manager that was practically a foot shorter than them was putting them in line and they actually listened. And so, the role kinda stuck (though you try not to lash out like you did that day).
You smiled at the memory. You started your way towards the front until you heard a few light snores coming from a seat further back to your right. Huh, guess I missed one. You walked back to the seat, almost yelping in surprise at who you saw.
Asahi? The ace slept with his own duffel bag propped up against the window as he snuggled it like a pillow. Half his face was buried into the bag while the other half was still in a peaceful slumber. Little bits of his brown hair fell around his forehead and over his ears from his bun. One longer strand of hair fell out over his nose, and would lift up slightly whenever he let out a small snore. You wondered how he didn’t wake up from Yuu and Tanaka yelling as they got off. Daichi and Suga did say that Asahi sleeps like the dead, but you’ve never got to actually see that for yourself.
You felt heat crawl up your face and ears at the sight of him. Asahi’s face was usually always concentrated, scared, or smiling. But this was somehow different. Seeing him sleeping like that made you stop dead in your tracks and stop thinking rationally. What’s worse? He’s not even trying. Asahi’s expression, mixed with his messy hair and snores, was pulling you in like a magnet. You thought it was downright adorable. You wanted to sit by him, maybe get a little closer. Close enough that perhaps you could smell the scent off his jacket or…
Your blushing got worse. You liked to keep these thoughts under wraps, but when they did come up you couldn’t help but get flustered. Fortunately, sitting next to him was as far as you got.
Hesitantly, you reached over to grab and shake Asahi’s shoulder. “Asahi,” you whispered. He didn’t budge. God, you were so lucky that no one could see you doing this. Under normal circumstances, with everyone in here, you would have been redder than a Nekoma jersey. “Asahi,” you whispered a little louder this time, shaking his shoulder a bit more. When he stirred and sucked in a breath, you flinched and stood up so quickly that you thought your spine snapped. But sadly, it didn’t, and now here you are, watching as Asahi opened his eyes ever so slowly.
When he sits up and his eyes finally land on you, you glued your eyes to the seat you were just sitting on. “O-Oh, (y/n)! Are we here?” Asahi asks in a groggy voice while looking up at you and then out the window to see the inn.
“Y-yeah!” you answered, cursing your voice for going a little more high pitched than you planned. You forced yourself to look up at him and conceal your blush. “I woke you up…” Just as he rose, you started to walk to the front with Asahi now not that far behind you. You swore, even just feeling him walking behind you was setting off butterfly cannons in your stomach. So, you composed yourself and tried to just walk straight.
But, what if you stopped? What if you leaned back, felt the warmth of his broad chest against your head… who are you kidding, both you and him would have a heart attack if you ever tried something so bold. You couldn’t seem to place how these thoughts entered your head about someone so fragile like that...
Both of you got off the bus and walked side by side now toward the lobby. You were mentally smacking yourself for thinking such things with him so close by.
When you entered the lobby, you took a seat and forced yourself to stop and think about something else.
“I’m going to put my stuff upstairs, see ya (y/n)!” Asahi called to you, turning for the stairs. Man, you were so caught up in your own thoughts that you didn’t even talk to him! Just how awkward can you get-
“See ya for dinner!” you called from over his shoulder as he, much to your relief and dismay, disappeared upstairs.
You let out a small sigh as you watched him disappear. Of course, you’ve fallen for the Ace of Karasuno. You just couldn’t help it. Asahi is one of the greatest friends you have and probably the most caring and understanding person you’ve ever met. He interested you too, how someone that big and imposing could be so gentle. Not only that, you did think he was really attractive. You started feeling this way at the beginning of your second year, and it didn’t take long for everyone to catch on. Heck, even the current first years have noticed it (Tsukishima teases you about it so much you have to remind him to respect his fucking elders and their problems). Somehow Asahi hasn’t caught on, probably due to his usual softie mentality.
That’s probably for the best. Not wanting to screw up your friendship with Asahi is probably the reason you’ve never confessed anyway. Probably.
But you’re running out of time. After this tournament, you have a few more weeks before you both graduate and you go off to attend university. So maybe you’ll just enjoy the time that you have with him, even if you most likely won’t tell him in the end.
___________________________________________________________
Asahi walked up to the boys room with his duffel bag, his mind a flurry of thoughts. Should I have stayed back with her? No, that would seem a little creepy… What do you mean creepy? She’s your friend! Shoot, I didn’t even tell her thank you for waking me up! Great going Asahi-
When Asahi entered the boys room, he was met with Kageyama being shoved into him, causing him to drop his bag.
“Ah! Sorry Asahi,” Kageyama apologized as Asahi bent down to pick it up.
“I-it’s fi-”
“Yeah Baka-yama! Say sorry!” Hinata shouted from across the room, sticking his tongue out at Kageyama.
“You’re the one that pushed me, dumbass!” Kageyama roared before storming back over to Hinata.
Asahi chuckled and made his way over to where Suga and Daichi were watching the pair fight from a safe distance.
“Hey, Asahi! Why’d you take so long to come up?” Daichi asked. He looked a little concerned, maybe even worried. Him and Suga really are just like his parents…
“O-oh no r-reason I-” he began. Asahi tried to avoid eye contact as his own voice began betraying him again. Eye contact was dangerous with these two sometimes, even if they were his friends. Both Suga and Daichi raised an eyebrow at him. “Um… I fell asleep on the bus a-and… (y/n) woke me up,” he muttered while getting quieter as he said your name.
“Aww, well isn’t that sweet!” Suga cooed with a teasing smirk. Asahi swore, whenever he brought you up when you weren't around, they were always quick to tease him. Maybe they are his parents…
Asahi felt a tiny blush begin to form on his cheeks as he stuttered “S-S-Suga, can we not talk about this right now…”
Daichi let out a disappointed sigh. “C’mon Asahi, you’ve basically had a crush on her since she became a manager. You gotta tell her already!”
“Tell who what?” asked Hinata who suddenly appeared beside Daichi. Asahi went stiff as a board, looking nowhere else than his shoes.
“Tell (y/n) that he likes her,” he heard Tsukishima say from beside Hinata. “What? Did you not know that he has feelings for her?”
“Wait, you mean… those kinda feelings?” Hinata’s voice got louder. It felt so loud that Asahi thought he was going to faint from the embarrassment.
Yamaguchi was quick to chime in with Tsukishima. “Well yeah! Hasn’t Tsukki told you this before?” How did they know?! Noya didn’t tell them… right?
As if on cue, Tanaka and Nishinoya also joined the conversation. “Yeah man! Who would’ve thought that Asahi would have a crush on such a hot girl like her, huh? What’d you think Noya?” Tanaka asked as he laughed along with the group.
“Asahi!” Noya yelled right into Asahi’s ear, scaring the living shit out of him. Almost the whole room went quiet. Noya pointed straight into Asahi’s face, causing his eyes to widen and look at his finger. Noya then began speaking as if he were talking of destiny, “Azumane Asahi, as Nishinoya (y/n)’s younger brother, and as her sole protector for life, I grant you permission for you to court her, and-”
“Oh please. Do you even know what the word “court” means when you say it like that?” Tsukishima snickered. Asahi’s body went cold with chills as his face flushed crimson. “You’re basically giving him permission to-”
“Would you guys shhhhhh!” Suga screamed at them before dropping his voice to a whisper. Oh thank God for Suga- “The girls room is right next door! They could’ve heard you for all you know! Have some respect…” Hinata squealed a ‘sorry’ and Tsukishima just walked away with a smirk. Noya gave Asahi a firm slap on the back. Everyone else that took part in the conversation left to do their own thing.
Suga put a gentle hand on Asahi’s shoulder, causing him to look into his eyes. “Look Asahi, whenever you’re around (y/n), I notice a slight change in you. You’re not super tense. You’re actually a lot more relaxed around her. You’re more confident and a lot more happy. She pushes you to do better unlike any one of us. You gotta tell her how you feel, and you have to do it soon, Asahi.”
“Yeah, and even if she doesn’t feel the same way, she isn’t the type of person to avoid you afterwards,” Daichi adds, giving him a reassuring smile.
Asahi blushed again before smiling at the ground. Is that really how he seems around you? Sure, some of what Suga said is true. He does feel a slightly bigger push when you’re the one to give pep talks before games, and it would be a lie to say that he wasn’t happier around you, but he thought everyone felt that way…
And the other things that Suga said? Asahi would just have to see for himself. Confess to you? Him, who has never been so in love with someone, and just happens to have no experience when it comes to that same department? He’s even surprised that words just came so naturally with you but confidence be damned! He never prepared himself for this!
Well, it is his third year after all… maybe he could learn a thing or two before ending high school. What does he have to lose?
“Y-Yeah...alright.”
There was a knock before the door opened. “Alright guys, meeting in the conference room in five. Dinner will be ready shortly after!” Coach Ukai yelled above the conversations. As soon as the team responded, one by one each boy began to leave the room. Daichi gave Asahi a small pat on the back before leaving with Suga.  Soon, Asahi was the only person left in the room, and the only tension present was created within his thoughts.
___________________________________________________________
You leaned your head back and closed your eyes as you let the steam and heat of the bath allow you to unwind. Kiyoko and Yachi had already climbed in with you. You sat to the right of Kiyoko and Yachi sat on her left.
“Rough day so far, (y/n)?” Kiyoko asked with her usual calming gaze. You could tell why almost all the boys were so into her. Seeing Yuu, Tanaka, and even boys from other teams try to hit on her was one of the funniest things to you. There was no denying that Kiyoko is pretty, and she always had this earthly calm about her that you just couldn’t put your finger on sometimes. Kiyoko has been your closest girl friend since you started as a manager, and now even Yachi was one too.
“Yeah,” you groaned. It may not seem like it to everyone else, but you had been stressed almost since you woke up this morning. First, there was the tension of the boys first game. Then, Kiyoko had to run back to grab Hinata’s bag that he left at the train station. The stress went away slightly after the boys won the first game, but the tension was still there now that they have to win the next one. To top it off, the boys just found out at their meeting that they would be going up against the team was ranked #2 to win nationals. Not to mention, their setter (according to Kageyama) was on the All Japan Youth team. If that didn’t make everyone’s anxiety for this tournament any worse, you didn’t know what did. You’re definitely going to make sure that the boys settle down to get enough sleep tonight.
Kiyoko and Yachi listened as you went on your rant about the day. But as you continued on, you let something slip out. “Not to mention, I woke up Asahi on the bus today. Asahi of all people! Then when we walked back I didn’t even say anything! I got so caught up in my own thoughts that I didn’t even realize how awkward I was being…”
You paused, realizing what you just said. Your hands flung up to conceal the blush now forming as you muttered something incoherent about not meaning to say that.
“Honestly (Y/N), I think it’s pretty funny how you react around someone like Asahi!” Yachi giggled. Kiyoko must have been pointing things like that out to her…
Kiyoko smiled at you. “She’s right, you know. It’s almost like you two switch personalities when you’re together.”
You turned your body to face them. “T-that’s not true!” you argued. The massive blush on your ears and face said otherwise. “I’m still the same person!”
The bathing room went suddenly quiet as if they were silently disagreeing with you. You turned to face forward again. It was if there was still another question that hung in the air that remained unspoken. “(Y/N)?” It was Yachi that spoke up.
“Yeah?” you asked somewhat hesitantly.
“You’re not...nervous to tell him you like him… are you?” Yachi asked. Your breath shuddered. There it was, that unspoken question. While it might seem normal for a person to be nervous to tell someone they liked them, much less to feel nervous about other things, ‘nervous’ was not a trait among the Nishinoya siblings. In fact, no one believed you and Yuu have ever felt nervous before. Despite Yuu’s personality being different from yours, it’s still centered around that shared trait between the both of you. The Nishinoya siblings were known on the team for being the fearless ones, Yuu in his playing ability and happy-go-lucky attitude, and you with your confident decision making and ability to push each player to do their best. It’s what made you two so reliable. You and your brother never got nervous… right? You guessed maybe that should only be said of Yuu now. After all, how can someone have no fear if they can’t confess to a silly little crush…
Maybe that’s the reason you’ve never confessed. This entire time, you thought the reason you never told Asahi how you felt was because you didn’t want to mess things up between the two of you.
I’ve been lying to myself this whole time, you thought. But, I shouldn’t lie to my friends about it…
After a few more minutes of silence, you spoke up. “Yeah. I am nervous.” Both of your friends looked to you. As you continued, your voice became lower and quieter as you sounded out your thoughts slowly. “This entire time I’ve been telling myself that maybe it was better this way because he probably wouldn’t return my feelings, but I guess I’ve been stalling.”
“That’s ok (y/n)! It’s perfectly normal for someone to get nervous over someone they like!” Yachi reassured you.
“She’s right,” said Kiyoko, putting a hand on your shoulder. “Try to be yourself around him. He’s actually a lot more confident around you than you think, so it should be like having a conversation with someone like Daichi or Suga. Just try to take those baby steps, ok? If you talk to him tonight, tell us how it went afterward.”
You smiled timidly at your two friends. “Okay, I will.”
___________________________________________________________
You stared at your phone and groaned. 9:00pm.
The boys would not shut up.
While Kiyoko and Yachi were settling down into their own sleeping areas, you calmly went over and asked Daichi if he could settle down the boys a little. That was 30 minutes ago…
Oh well, you thought. Kiyoko and Yachi were asleep now, so you thought it would be fine. It had been a while since the team got to hang out as just a plain group of chaotic high school boys rather than a serious volleyball club. They’re on this trip to have some fun too.
But if they're not quiet by 10:00, you’re definitely making sure they actually fall asleep.
With a sigh, you turned off your phone and made your way across the dark room. Careful not to wake your friends, you tiptoed to your bag in the corner and fished out your favorite pajamas: an old yet suitable t-shirt and a fuzzy pair of light orange shorts.
After changing, you grabbed your small toiletry bag and walked out of the room. Across from the girl’s room was a small washroom that was shared among all three of the rooms. You were sure that no one would enter since all the boys were in their room and Ukai and Takeda went drinking again. The washroom was completed with two sinks surrounded by a wooden counter, and a public toilet further back in the room.
You set your stuff down on the sink closest to the door. As you started to brush your teeth, you questioned if you should stay up longer tonight than usual. You didn’t feel that tired yet, and you did hear that there is a balcony near the rooms.
You leaned over the sink to spit before faintly hearing the door open. You quickly spit out the excess toothpaste and wiped your mouth on your sleeve before looking to see who stood in the doorway.
“(y/n)?” Asahi stared back at you with his wide brown eyes. He had switched his tracksuit for a plain white t-shirt and a pair of grey sweats, which you assumed was his sleepwear. He had a small green bag under his arm. Was he washing up too?
“Oh, I’m sorry I thought no one would come in here,” you tried to laugh about it as you quickly started to pack up your toiletries. Damn, you’re just acting nervous around him again!
“No! You can stay, I’ll just come back later,” he smiled politely and turned to leave.
“Wait!” you called before you even realized what you were doing. Asahi turned to look over his shoulder, surprised. Baby steps rang in your head as you took a breath and said “There’s another sink if you want to use it…”
Asahi peered over your head. “Oh! Sure...” He walked past you to the other sink and you turned to your own bag. As you brought out a comb to run through your hair, Asahi started to run the water in his sink as he fished out his own toothbrush.
Almost on instinct, you started talking to yourself in your own head, even when you desperately wanted to talk to the boy next to you. Should I even say anything in the first place? No… baby steps (y/n)! Remember! Ok, what should I say? “So how do you think tomorrow will go?” No, the tension for tomorrow is already high enough. “Nice… weather? here? in? Tokyo…?” Goddammit why is this so hard-
You sighed through your nose and put your comb back. As you looked for the next thing you needed to find in your bag, your eyes slowly drifted to Asahi. He was looking at himself in the mirror as he ran a knuckle along his jaw and muttered something about needing to shave. You assumed he decided against it as he fished out a brush and a bottle of… detangler?
One part of Asahi was happy and glad that you were sharing the washroom with him. But, the majority of him was feeling like an anxious wreck. It was only three hours ago when Asahi had promised his friends that he would finally confess his feelings to you. And now you’re here with him, alone, and you haven’t spoken a word to each other. Maybe he should say something about it now, close the gap he so desperately wanted to reach. Was he ever going to get a good enough opportunity such as this (even if it was in a washroom…)?
As Asahi got out his brush and detangler, he decided that maybe he would just talk to you for now… yeah. But, what is there to talk about-
“Is that lavender detangler?”
He raised his eyebrows and turned to look at you. You looked first at the detangler in his hand, and then up at him with a quirked eyebrow and wide, expecting eyes. You held your face wash in one hand and a hair tie in the other. And those pajamas you were wearing… gosh you looked so cute.
“Oh… yeah. It’s kind of weird I guess,” Asahi chuckled and scratched the back of his neck.
“No, not at all,” you replied matter-of-fact. “I was actually kind of wondering why some parts of the gym smelled like lavender and I was trying to figure out who it was!” You laughed. It’s true, some corners of the gym started smelling oddly great (for a gym especially). When you asked Kiyoko and Yachi if they had bought new perfume, they both replied with no, and so you became suspicious.
When you turned away to wash your face, Asahi took out his bun and began his own nighttime routine. Your butterflies fucking exploded as you rubbed the face wash gently into your skin and listened to the soft spurts of his detangler.
___________________________________________________________
For the rest of your time in the washroom, both you and Asahi held great conversation. Though the time was little, the detangler topic led to both of you complaining about your hair consistency, to what color you both would want dye your hair, to favorite colors, to favorite school subjects, and then finally to what you were talking about now, favorite parts about school.
“Well that’s easy. Being the manager for the team,” you replied nonchalantly.
“Really?” Asahi packed up the rest of his things in his little bag and turned to you. He left his hair down. You were leaning against the door, your own bag under your arm. Seeing him with his hair down is having you battle the flutter in your stomach as you try to get used to the new sight.
“Well yeah, but I guess I have to thank Yuu though after all. If he didn’t play volleyball I would probably be tripping over myself in a dance club or something!” You both laughed.
He was still laughing as you caught a glance of his face. You wanted to see his smile more. You wanted to hear him laugh more. You just wanted to keep talking to him. This is the first time you’ve been able to have a normal conversation with him without stumbling over your words and you did not want it to end this quickly. But at the same time, you probably shouldn’t keep him if he’s tired.
Asahi felt a little conflicted inside. It was clear that both of you were done washing up, but he still wanted to confess, but… well maybe now isn’t the time after all. It was still great to talk to you though.
You opened the door and walked past the doorway. “So um, are you going back to the room?”
“Well, I guess. But I probably won’t be able to sleep because of the noise. That’s the reason I came to wash up a little earlier.” Asahi responded. The moment was slipping away...
Maybe that’s one thing to thank the boys for. But is there some way to keep talking to him? He obviously doesn’t want to be by the rest of the team. Maybe you could save him from them for a couple of minutes. But where-
“Um… a-are you tired?” This was about to take a lot of courage from you…
“N-no…?” Asahi was a little confused by your question. What were you about to ask him?
“Do you wanna go hang out on the balcony for a bit?” You finally said it. A huge weight was lifted from your shoulders, but the even larger weight remained as you waited for his answer. You squeezed your hands behind your back and gulped. You prayed that he didn’t notice how nervous you were…
Asahi just stared at you for about 2 seconds, because 2 seconds was all his brain needed to overcompensate and overthink everything you just said. Did you say hang out on the balcony? As in like, with you? Alone? Together? No one else is there, right? Why? Just to keep you company? Because he said that he didn’t really want to be by the rest of the loud and obnoxious team? Did you really care enough about that to invite him on the balcony? Did you actually like talking to him?
No, that couldn’t be true…
Right?
“Yeah. We could do that.”
___________________________________________________________
You stood on the balcony, eagerly awaiting Asahi. You leaned over the railing as you took in the cold evening. The wind blew just enough to leave a slight shiver through your body and stir your hair. The lights and sounds of Tokyo filled your senses as you watched the bustling city from afar. You took a look up. The pollution of Tokyo meant you couldn’t see stars, but you imagined they were there. There wasn’t a single cloud in the sky, save for the occasional airplane flying to or from the city. You brought your gaze back down and stared forward in silent thought.
Asahi was grateful that you had arrived at the balcony first after you both left to put away your toiletries. He tried his best to get into the room to put his things away, grab his jacket, and be out of the room where the boys were now playing truth or dare. Noya caught him and tried to convince him to join in, but he politely refused and left without another word. He would have to explain himself later.
And now, there you were. You didn’t notice him behind you on the balcony. His gaze softened as he took a moment to admire you.
You were the only thing that immediately captured his attention, as always. Not the blinding lights of the city beyond, not the atmosphere around him, just you, with your back turned to him as you faced Toyko. Asahi’s breath hitched in his throat. It was in that moment that he realized that nothing else mattered. Not even breathing mattered. The lights weren’t as beautiful, the city wasn’t as loud, and the chill in the air wasn’t as prominent. Everything else seemed to dull and fade, leaving only you.
Why?
There was just something more captivating in the way your hair flowed in the wind that he seemed to forget that the wind was the reason your hair moved so fluently. The way you were standing and observing the view, almost as if you didn’t know that if everything else had eyes, then everything would be gazing and admiring you just like he did every day. The way your eyes were shining so perfectly ahead that the stars would become jealous and try to take that shine, but he would never let them because no matter how high and mighty the stars might be, no matter how many of them there were, you were so much more above them in his own eyes.
His thoughts were broken when your body jerked in a slight shiver. He realized that you had forgotten a coat because you were still wearing the same pajamas.
It was a lot windier than you thought it would be. You wrapped your arms around yourself and rubbed your bare arms. You were in such a hurry to put your things away that you didn’t have time to consider the weather.
You jumped when you felt a slight pressure on your shoulder, and then something laying across them. As you reached your hands up to feel what it was, you ran your fingers across the material of a jacket, and then heard the shuffling of someone next to you. Then you realized…
Asahi was here, and he gave you his jacket.
You turned to look at him. He was standing about a foot away from you to the right. He had his elbows propped against the balcony railing as he leaned against it. His shoulders caved slightly inward as he stared at the ground. His eyes were casted downward in a way that he almost looked ashamed, but if not, then just lost in thought. A slight tint splayed itself across his cheeks from the cold. The wind moved through his long brown hair like a dance and ruffled his white shirt against the muscle that laid beneath.
Your heart caught in your chest. Your breathing stopped as you clutched the jacket.
This was a new sight. He didn’t look scared. He wasn’t smiling. He wasn’t sleeping. He didn’t look exactly concentrated either.
He looked… ethereal.
His eyes caught yours and he stood a little straighter. “I-I… you looked cold… so… sorry if it’s weird...” His eyes casted off as he spoke. He’s adorable.
“N-no” you assured. “Not at all! Um, thank you...”
“You’re welcome... “ he smiled at you before looking down again. It was odd. It wasn’t like his body was anxious, more like just his eyes were. Could he… maybe? Unless he was just trying to be nice.
You looked down and held the jacket closer to you. Your blush was growing by the second. It may be a possibility. The jacket smelled like the lavender detangler and cedarwood. Not only that, it was warm. It smelled and felt like him, like your Asahi. Well, he wasn’t yours just yet.
Just yet.
Asahi didn’t even know why or how he managed to give you his jacket. He just felt a surge of feeling that had him act. He knew it was love, but at that moment, he never felt it so strongly. It was almost as if it were his instinct to want to make you feel happy and comfortable. Maybe he should act on that more.
Maybe he should act on that now.
You talked up first. “So, um…” you mumbled just loud enough to be audible. “How are you feeling… about tomorrow?” You instantly regretted the words as they left your mouth. You couldn’t think of another topic, so you just blurted the first thing that came to mind.
“Um… well, if I said I was feeling alright about it, I would obviously be lying,” he chuckled.
“Well, I think you’ll be alright once you get out there and kick ass like always,” you said, trying to ease his nerves. You sounded so sure of yourself. That was new, especially around Asahi.
“(y/n)...”
“Yeah?”
“Thank you for supporting me…” he faced you as he leaned against the railing, smiling at you, though he didn’t make eye contact. “It really means a lot…”
You gave him your best smile while clutching his jacket. “No need to thank us. We all have to push our ace so he can do his best!”
He blushed. Something popped into his head, and before he could stop himself, he said it out loud.
“No one pushes me to do my best as much as you, though.” He scared himself when he said it. He couldn’t even turn away. He just… looked at you. You were still so captivating. So much so that his anxiety and fears couldn’t even distract him now.
You blushed. Did he just say that? Did he… there was almost no doubt now. Your heart started to beat so loud that you couldn’t focus on your own thoughts. You could only focus on him.
You were looking at him with those beautiful eyes again. This was it. Now. He had to do it now.
“(y-y/n)...”
“Yeah…?” You turned to him.
He opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. He couldn’t stop staring at you.
So captivating.
There you stood, patiently waiting.
“Asahi, are you-”
“I love you, (y/n).” And that’s when the words began to tumble out. “I can’t believe I’m doing this… but it’s the truth. Ever since you became a manager for our team, I’ve never been able to get you out of my head and... and, I’m not sure how to feel about it. You’re just beautiful, and strong, and perfect… A-and I want to give you everything. I want to give you… more than everything really. But I’m just...I’m just…”
He kept his eyes closed the entire time, brows furrowed and hands glued to his sides as he spoke. Were you actually hearing this? The person you’ve loved for so long confessing that he loves you-
You felt this buzzing, warm feeling inside your heart. It spread like wildfire throughout your body, burning you and your senses down to the one source of the truth behind the flames which is that he. loves. you.
He squinted as he opened his eyes to look at you. You looked… confused. You just kept staring at him. He felt this cold shiver as his cheeks flushed in embarrassment. He clenched his fists. Here it was, you were about to reject him. Why did he even try-
“I love you too, Asahi.”
“What?”
“What?”
For a moment you two just stared at each other. You both couldn’t believe what you were hearing. Meanwhile, the same fire was spreading throughout Asahi. Burning down all insecurities, all negative thoughts. It was just that one fact.
You love him too.
And like fire, it spread throughout both of you quickly. Burning, destroying, until it bubbled over and-
That space between you ceased to exist as you stood on your tippy toes, grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, and kissed him. You didn’t know what you were doing, but you didn’t care. You’ve waited too long to tell him how you’ve felt and this kiss lifted the last weight from your consciousness. You didn’t have to pretend. You didn’t have to be nervous. You were free.
Asahi didn’t know how to feel at first. Was this actually happening? Were you… kissing him? Well, of course he knew that but he never thought it would happen.
He wasn’t kissing back. You opened your eyes and leaned back, separating you from his lips. Was that too far? “Ah, s-sorry I thought-”
You were cut off by him quickly swooping in and returning the kiss while leaning down to wrap his arms around your waist. You closed your eyes and kissed him back, wrapping your arms around his neck and tangling your hands in his long hair. His lips were warm and surprisingly soft. You giggled as the scruff from his stubble tickled you. His kiss was so gentle that it was as if he thought you were a porcelain doll, and that if he put too much of himself on you, that you would break. It was loving and sweet, and filled with as much care as he could give you.
When you both leaned back, he looked down at you. So small. So amazing.
So perfect.
Those were his words before he leaned again, pressing himself closer to you. Your back steadied itself against the railing as you continued kissing him. His hands travelled to cup your face, one hand resting itself against your soft skin and the other running itself through your hair. This kiss was just like the last but filled with more need and passion. The fire was growing. Here, nothing else mattered. The lights didn’t matter, the air, the city. Just you, with your lips on his.
When you leaned back again, he smiled as you kissed him on the nose. “Not as perfect as you,” you replied. You laughed as his face scrunched in confusion, and then when he realized what he had said out loud before he kissed you.
“So, uh, does this mean… W-well, only if you want to of course! But, ah, what I’m trying to say is-”
“Yes Asahi, I’ll be your girlfriend,” you said to him while rolling your eyes and smiling. It seemed that after your kiss, your confidence had returned. How could he kiss you like that but not be able to ask you out? He’s so awkward, and handsome, and yours.
Both of you chuckled, finally before leaning in again. Finally yours.
That’s when you heard the metallic door on the other side of the balcony open.
“HEY ASAHI- woah”
___________________________________________________________
"So that's when I opened the door, and Asahi and (y/n) were making out, and-"
"Noya, stop-" Asahi pleaded.
"Dang, who knew that Asahi had game," Tanaka wheezed.

HC · They're confessing
Headcanons of Haikyuu characters confessing to you
This one is for the Karasuno first years, will do a few more for the 2nd + 3rd years and few members of other teams
Will also do a hc of the reader confessing first
Tumblr media
Hinata:
It was something you expected because he couldn't be any more obvious about having a crush on you
However, it took way longer than you thought for him to actually stand in front of you
Like this boy have no idea how painfully obvious he was being and everyone had to sit by the side and watch him figure out his feelings in real time
This idiot couldn't differentiate between simply liking someone and a crush
When he finally realised what he felt for you wasn't platonic, he went straight for it
He caught you after class, confessed really loudly
You felt like everyone on that floor was able to hear this idiot's confession of his love for you
He definitely was nervous, considering how loud he was being
When you accepted his confession, he was so happy that he jumped up and hugged you so tightly that you felt like your ribs were going to collapse
There was also a very audible yelp from him from the happiness
Welp, guess now that everyone in the school knows that a certain idiot confessed and is now happily dating the love of his dreams
Tumblr media
Kageyama:
Another oblivious idiot on this list
Arguably took long than Hinata to understand his feelings but was also more subtle with his actions
However, everyone except a few was able to tell that he had it bad for you
Would be sneaking glances at you and turning away immediately when you turn to face him
If you ever asked, he would be like "What? No. What are you talking about?"
Even after understanding he had a crush on you, he didn't confess
However, under the help of a few seniors, mainly Sugawara
Our lovely setter prodigy finally decided to face you and express his feelings
It was mainly muttering at first, but after telling him that you couldn't hear him, his voice rose suddenly and went for the overkill
Now the entire sector of the building could hear him
He fried himself immediately after that from embarrassment
But you were nice enough to hold in your chuckle and comfort him, then accepting his confession
Now you had the honour of watching Kageyama turn into a tomato in two seconds
He would be stammering and stuttering all over the place
He was overjoyed, but failed miserably in expressing it coherently
But hey, we love him for that
Tumblr media
Tsukishima:
He was well aware of his feelings, but he wasn't ready to admit it
It took him quite some time to come in term with it
And even when he accepted it, he didn't confess immediately
Instead, he was planning strategically on how to confess to you so there will be a higher chance of you reciprocating those feelings back
This isn't how feelings work but we'll give him the credit for putting in the effort
You were kind of shocked when he confessed
You always thought that this guy disliked you, or were at least, indifferent about you, the thought that he liked you did not once show up in your mind
His affections were subtle and only a very few could see that he held you differently from others
His confession was calm, really calm, if it wasn't for the tense muscles and clenched fist, you wouldn't even know that this guy was nervous.
Even after you accepting his confession, his response was more of a "guess you were smart enough to accept me."
But if you squint real hard, you can see a joyous glint in his eyes
He is happy about you reciprocating his feelings, but more than likely he won't outright say it
Even if he did, it would be a quick comment thats followed by something sassy to cover it up
Tumblr media
Yamaguchi:
You could tell this boy held feelings for you from a mile away
He's really not good at hiding it with all the blushing and stammering
Didn't have the courage to tell you for the longest time
Tsukishima was telling him to just go for it, and everyone else was also encouraging him to do it
But he still didn't budge
He felt like you were going to reject him the moment he step in front of you
Not true by the way
It was only when he scored with the float serve through multiple games and finally feeling like he could do something did he gain the confidence he needed
He came up to you, face red and trying to keep composure even though he felt so nervous like he's going to faint
However, he still managed to hold eye contact with you this entire time
His voice was quivering when he told you about his feelings
You couldn't tell if it was because he was nervous or because he was scared
Probably both
When you accepted his feelings, he was overjoyed, but he still doubled checked with you
Because maybe, he heard it wrong
After getting an confirmation, he gleamed, you could almost see a fluffy tail wagging behind him
The first request he had for you after making sure you are now in a relationship with him is:
"Could I hold your hand?"
Tumblr media
Yachi:
You could tell easily that this girl had something for you from the startled expressions and act of running away and hiding from seeing you
It's like a little rabbit seeing a predator
However, you couldn't quite determine whether it was because she liked you or she was scared of you
You thought it might be the latter, but the reactions her friends gave suggested the former
Nothing really happened for a long time so you thought she would never arrive to confession
She proved you wrong
...but only after one whole year
She finally stopped you at recess all nervous and fidgety, she looked like she was on the verge of crying
She handed you a lovely envelope and just ran
You didn't even get a chance to stop her and she's just gone
The letter was well written, well decorated and very cute
She expressed all the feelings she had for you in her neat handwriting
There were cute drawings decorated throughout the page, indicating how much energy she put into this
Since she already gave you love letter, you knew it was impossible to receive a love confession in person now, so you decided to chase her down yourself
You caught her after class one day, then kabedon'ed her so she won't run away again
She was squealing silently and almost died from your action
She thought you were going to beat her up
When you took out a familiar well kept envelop and said that you accept her confession
She practically stopped functioning. It took her several seconds to process what you said
When she finally understood it, she looked at your with sparkling eyes, asking for a reaffirmation
You repeated your words
She got so happy that she was jumping up and down
Some passing students heard the commotion and checked what was happening
She didn't even notice them
She was just happy to finally be with you
(太可爱了太可爱了,软妹拯救世界好吧)
Also I don't even know if this counts as hc anymore because it feels kinda long
Don't ask me why yachi's part is so long, she was too cute and my brain turned to a jumbled goo from the cuteness attack so that's probably why I wrote too much
Edit: fuck fuck fuck guys I JUST realised that I wrote something wrong in Yachi's part. This is so dumb of me. Anyways, fixed it now. Hopefully everyone who read this before the edit figured out something was wrong 🫠

HAIKYUU X THE OFFICE AU — EPISODE SIX: SUGA’S GOT A SECRET
Tumblr media
pairing: sugawara koushi x female reader
description: now that ukai knows of sugawara’s feelings for you, it’s only a matter of time before the big secret spreads throughout the office, leaving sugawara with plenty of damage control to do.
word count: 6.3k
also available to read on my ao3 here
author’s note: tumblr keeps playing games when it comes to this au showing up in tags, which may be because of “foul” language apparently, so i’m gonna “censor” this episode and see what happens. it will be uncensored on ao3 though. if you missed episode five, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU READ IT. it’s INSANELY annoying how tumblr keeps messing with me, and that’s honestly why i (along with literally every writer on here) press about reblogs. likes don’t do anything, reblogs do. not to sound like a pain in the ass, but how can you expect your favorite authors to feel inclined to write if you’re not helping them get exposure? anyway… i feel really good about this episode creativity wise (as i reworked the original episode a TON), and think it might be one of the better episodes i’ve written along with next week’s valentine’s episode. i hope you enjoy!

Tumblr media
for the second time today, you returned to your desk with your teapot full of hot water. it was scorching against your hands, but you had to be careful with your steps in order to avoid any spills. you’ve been doing this practically everyday since the office christmas party, so none of your coworkers were phased by it anymore.
“hot, hot, hot.” you whisper to yourself.
you place the teapot down and let out a sigh of relief before sitting down in your chair. the crew watched as you pour the hot water into a mug and pulled out a dish full of sugar of creamer packets, ones you recently acquired so you could be more efficient with your tea. it wasn’t necessarily the excitement the documentary was hoping for, but they kept the cameras on you in anticipation for something with suga to hopefully come up. unfortunately, nothing spicy had occurred.
you stirred everything together before taking a sip, letting out an “ah, that’s the stuff.”
•••
“i’ve been loving the teapot suga got me for christmas.” you say with a grin. “it gives me an excuse to drink more tea rather than coffee at the office, and not the kind you spill, if you catch my drift.”
you give a wink to the camera, but there might as well be crickets as none of the documentary crew laughed at your joke.
“none of you found that funny?” you pout.
•••
out of nowhere, daichi huffed and puffed as he emerged from the break room. “ugh, who in god’s name spilled coffee in the break room and didn’t clean it up?”
not again, you think to yourself. there was always someone leaving a mess somewhere in the office. it was like working with a bunch of children most of the time. you could almost always point your finger on who was to blame, but it’s not like anyone would admit their wrongs, like tanaka, who was responsible for most messes in the office.
“wasn’t me.” he immediately objected. you almost wonder if he spoke up first on purpose so the suspicion would go to someone else.
“you know i don’t drink coffee.” tsukishima said, which was true. you would find him always drinking some sort of strawberry soda, which you tried once and swore it was the most disgusting drink you ever tasted.
“yeah, and y/n has just been drinking tea lately.” suga spoke up. he immediately regretted saying anything as tsukishima, yamaguchi, kiyoko, yachi, and tanaka all collectively eyed each other. his cover was slipping terribly, but suga couldn’t help but feel the need to defend your honor.
“well, whoever did it needs to clean it up because i’m not doing it.” daichi crossed his arms.
“you know no one is gonna fess up, daichi.” tsukishima rolled his eyes. “this happens every time.”
“and i’m not gonna be stuck with the mess again!” he whined. “it’s like how you all expect asahi to reach everything on the top shelf when we invested in stepladders for a reason. those things weren’t cheap.”
the camera panned over to asahi as everyone quickly turned their heads to look at him. “why… why are you guys looking at me like that?”
“well, some of our coworkers happen to be leprechauns, you know.” kageyama said, evoking gasps out of hinata and nishinoya.
“oh, that’s not—” you began to say before covering your mouth with your hand. it was best if you kept out of this one.
“kageyama, that’s offensive to short people!” hinata exclaimed with a pout. “after everything we’ve been through…”
“my point still stands.” kageyama shrugged.
before hinata and kageyama could break out into a fight for the umpteenth time—one where tanaka would definitely yell out “world star!” and pull out his phone to record—ukai came out of his office in order to investigate what his employees were arguing about rather than actually working.
“something the matter? what’s with all the chatter?” he asked, immediately recognizing his clever rhyme. “oh, i rhymed! that’s bars right there.”
“someone spilled coffee on the floor in the break room and left it there.” daichi explained to him. “as if this office needs any more mess, it’s a disaster around here. we need to do something about the cleanliness of our work environment.”
“hmm… let me think.” ukai stood there pondering for a minute, resembling the thinker. some of you wondered if he was posing that way just for the sake of striking a pose. it definitely wouldn’t be a surprise if he was.
“uh, hello? earth to ukai?” daichi waved his hand in front of ukai, thinking he was frozen.
“i’m thinking.” he muttered, trying to stay as still as possible, down to barely moving his mouth. yeah, he was posing just to pose. typical.
everyone continued to wait for ukai to suggest literally anything, but he stayed in his position for far too long. thankfully, yamaguchi decided to speak up, but he would quickly be shut down by ukai.
“why don’t we all just clean the whole office together—”
“let’s all just clean the whole office together!” ukai interrupted yamaguchi, taking all the credit. “yes!”
“i just said that…” yamaguchi frowned.
“it’s spring cleaning, baby!” ukai clasped his hands together.
“but it’s not even spring?” tanaka questioned. he should know better than to question his boss at this point.
“so? who cares?” ukai shrugged. “don’t make me assign you to cleaning the men’s room.”
“no, please! anything but that!” tanaka begged. ukai instantly found joy in this, giving the camera a sinister, yet also off-putting stare.
•••
“i’m such a genius. if you do your spring cleaning in the winter, then you won’t have to do anything in the spring!” ukai said, praising himself as if it were his idea. “only i could think of such big brained ideas.”
“yamaguchi suggested it before you spoke over him.” a crew member spoke up, having documented it on camera.
“who?” ukai furrowed his eyebrows. it was almost hilarious how he couldn’t remember who he was.
•••
while some were assigned to clean certain parts of the office, others were cleaning out their desks, which everyone was mandated to do today. it seemed like “spring” cleaning wasn’t such a bad idea after all as many found random miscellaneous items, having no idea when they were from. tanaka even discovered why his desk had such an odd odor, which was because of an expired donut. everyone gagged at the sight and smell of it as he chucked it in a trash can and ran off.
as you were cleaning out your drawers, yachi walked up to your desk with a bottle of carpet cleaner and a scrubbing brush.
“hey, y/n. here’s that carpet cleaner you asked for.” she said as she placed it down on your desk.
you look up from what you’re doing and see yachi right in front of you. you had been waiting for your chance to use it as there were limited resources to share. thankfully yachi agreed to give it to you after she was done with it.
“oh my god, thank you.” you let out a sigh of relief. “daichi would flip if he saw the coffee stains under my desk.”
“trust me, i know… we’re desk buddies.” yachi groaned. she wasn’t particularly fond of the seating arrangement around here. at least you had your own little space, one where suga could steal pining glances as much as he desired, which reminded her. “how’s wedding planning going, by the way? did you start yet?”
the initial excitement of finally setting a wedding date sent you into overdrive, your mind racing of all the things that needed to be done to prepare for a wedding. as much as you dreamed of this, you didn’t think you’d be stuck doing all of the planning alone. ryo hadn’t made a single contribution yet, and despite your families expecting you to walk down the aisle, some doubts couldn’t help but brew up in your head.
“oh, uh, i bought my veil recently.” you reply. you hadn’t even picked a dress yet, despite having a long way to go, but picking a veil just seemed easier for right now.
“aw, that’s so exciting!” yachi couldn’t help but feel bad that suga was overhearing this conversation, given his eyes were fixated on you as he waited for you to speak, which wasn’t that hard to notice. “how are you gonna do your hair then?”
“well, i was thinking about wearing it down. kind of like—” you take out your hair clip and let your hair down, fluffing it up a bit to show yachi. “—maybe something like this?”
suga felt his heart still for a moment as he intently watched you fiddle with your hair. he wished he’d seen you like this before as you always wore your hair up at work. why were you hiding such beauty? it pained him to think about ryo always being the one to see your hair untamed like this at home. even if you failed to realize it, you were drop dead gorgeous in suga’s eyes.
“wow, you look so beautiful. you’re gonna make people cry.” yachi said, already able to think of one person without hesitation.
as yachi spoke a little too loud, ukai—being the nosy boss he is—overheard your conversation and decided to butt in. with poor timing, at that. “woah, y/n. why don't you wear your hair like that all the time? it's so much hotter than what you usually do.”
you cringe and roll your eyes as you reach for your hair clip. suga let out a sigh, wanting the savor the sight for a little longer. maybe another time, he hoped.
“man, this must be torture for you.” ukai said as he walked past suga. suga’s eyes widen as he looked around to see if anyone overheard that, and thankfully no one did. everyone was too occupied with cleaning to bother, it seemed.
•••
“yeah, on the booze cruise i told ukai about some feelings i used to have for y/n.” suga explained, albeit poorly. “i was just… feeling nostalgic, i guess, and i decided to confide in the world's worst confidant.”
used to have? even the documentary crew could see right through such a pathetic lie.
•••
later that day, suga knocked on ukai’s office door. as expected, he wasn’t cleaning his office one bit. do as ukai says, not as ukai does, apparently. it wasn’t a shock, to be honest.
“hey, ukai.” suga said as he entered ukai’s office. ukai quickly turned down the volume on his computer—seemingly not doing any productive office work either—and looked up to see what suga wanted. “remember that thing i told you on the booze cruise about y/n?”
“boy, do i?” ukai asked. he had been reeling ever since the bombshell was revealed to him. it was more exciting than the lame reality tv he usually watched at home. “of course i do.”
“well, that was, uh, pretty personal, so if you can just…” suga paused. how could he make this sound the least offensive to his boss? “if you can make sure you don’t tell anyone else about it, that would be great.”
“what? oh yeah, my lips are sealed. like the bangles song.” ukai said.
suga furrowed his eyebrows. he didn’t feel confident in that answer. “that was the go-go’s.”
“just get back to cleaning.” ukai scoffed.
“you got it.” suga nodded. it seemed he just had to take ukai’s word for it, but some worry still lingered.
•••
“suga and i are great friends. we hang out a ton, mostly at work, but the fact that he poured his heart out to me about y/n during booze cruise says everything about our friendship.” ukai said. “and because of that, i intend on keeping that information a secret for as long as i possibly can.”
“are you implying that it will spill out eventually?”
“course not. i’m the best at keeping secrets.” ukai then started to sweat profusely. he cannot keep this secret for long. “is it hot in here all of the sudden?”
•••
while suga was cleaning his desk, ukai emerged from his office with what seemed like the sole purpose of bothering him. his careful tiptoeing towards suga was evident, even if he tried to be sneaky. “suga…”
“yeah, ukai?” he looked up, ruining ukai’s opportunity to potentially scare him.
“whatcha doin’?” ukai asked. “you like football?”
“uh, ya know, cleaning. like you asked me to.” suga deadpanned. “plus, i’m more of a volleyball guy.”
“oh, yeah, makes sense.” ukai said before getting to the real point of this conversation. “so, any news on you know who?”
suga initially wondered why ukai would be bothering him like this, especially in the middle of the day, but now it was painfully obvious. of course it would be about you, but here, right on the open floor? it’s like ukai was asking to publicly embarrass suga. the poor lad had been through enough embarrassment these past few months. the documentary has seemingly only made it worse.
“time and place, ukai.” suga shook his head in annoyance.
“i just want to know more about your love life, suga.” ukai pouted. of course, he had some valid concerns. suga was just crying to him about his dilemma not that long ago, after all, but still, why here and now?
“like i said; time and place.” suga insisted.
“but—”
before ukai could plead his case, tanaka interrupted this conversation, seemingly out of jealousy over ukai newfound closeness to suga. “woah, what’s going on here? you guys besties all of the sudden?”
“um, yeah, we’re besties, tanaka.” ukai replied. suga wanted and scream and say that he was wrong. they would never be besties, never. “we tell each other secrets and stuff.”
“secrets? what secrets?” tanaka raised an eyebrow with a smirk. he instantly thought of one secret only a select few knew of, and suga knew he’d be thinking of it. “i know secrets.”
suga had to get tanaka off his back somehow. the combo and him and ukai would be a total disaster when it came to his secret. “deep, dark secrets?”
“wha… what do you mean?” tanaka questioned. it was hilarious how he was falling for this.
“oh, you know…” suga paused for dramatic effect. “the kind of secrets that could send people to jail.”
“oh my god…” tanaka let out a gasp then ran off like a scaredy cat. maybe that award went to the wrong employee on awards night.
that actually impressed ukai quite a bit. he wouldn’t say it out loud as he always had to be the very best, but ukai was definitely impressed.
“welp, back to work.” suga shrugged. this desk definitely wouldn’t clean itself, and he wasn’t sure if he could trust anyone else to go through his things. maybe he could trust you. knowing you, you’d organize everything by what you thought was worth keeping and what wasn’t, then let him figure out if your guesses were right.
“hey, uh, wait.” ukai said, catching suga’s attention once more. “what are you doing for lunch? i could take you out. my treat.”
lunch? with ukai? suga wasn’t sure if he was all too fond out that idea. free food, sure, but having to deal with ukai alone at a restaurant seemed like a bad nightmare. you never know what could happen in such an event.
“ah, no, you don’t gotta do that.” suga said as he quickly tried to think of an excuse to get out of this. “i gotta… ya know… clean and stuff.”
“what about we set up a picnic in the break room?” ukai proposed. “order some pizza and talk about you know who.”
nope. nope, nope, nope. suga knew ukai was just itching to talk about you. the only feasible solution was to get as far away from the office as possible and go out for stupid lunch. the sacrifices suga had to make for the sake of keeping his secret, well, a secret.
“haha, um… you know what? yeah, let’s go out. that’s a good idea, man.” suga stood up from his chair. ukai jumped up and down, overjoyed, which brought more attention to them. suga figured going right now was the best bet, so he quickly grabbed his coat and briefcase in order to leave right away. “let’s go now, actually. what place you thinking of?”
“oh, i know just the place.”
•••
after an awkward drive, ukai and suga found parking in the city before walking over to a popular strip of restaurants. suga assumed being a boss had its perks as there was no way he could afford to eat like this all the time. thank god ukai was paying for this.
there seemed to be amazing places to eat around here, but suga found ukai leading him to the outside of what seemed like a… maid cafe?!
“ukai, what is this place?” suga asked, hoping and praying it wasn’t what he thought it was.
“it’s my favorite spot.” ukai said, noticing suga hesitate. “i go here all the time. come on.”
“if it’s what i think it is—”
“it’ll be fine!” he interrupted suga. “don’t be shy now.”
suga let out a sigh before he followed ukai inside. it was exactly what he thought it was. he was at a maid cafe.
“no… no, no, no.” suga shook his head. this couldn’t be happening to him right now.
suddenly, a pretty woman in a maid outfit walked up to them, greeting ukai first as he was a regular. “mr. ukai! come, come have a seat wherever you’d like.”
“sana!” ukai greeted her. it was even worse that he knew the employees by name.
“there’s no way…”
•••
“ukai took me to a maid cafe.” suga said through gritted teeth. he was being interviewed outside the cafe, other cameras filming what was going on inside as ukai was being pampered by the waitresses. suga was lucky to have a chance to rant. “he took me to a F*CKING maid cafe.”
“you know you’re—”
“god, i’m tired of you guys scolding us over language. you’re just gonna cut most of this sh*t out in post anyway.” he cut off the crew member. he wasn’t necessarily wrong, but the poor editors had a lot of work cut out for them with the way the employees of japan pulp and paper act. maybe they were better off documenting another branch…
•••
meanwhile at the office, tanaka walked up to your desk unannounced, digging his fingers into the bowl of jellybeans you always had out for everyone. you don’t even wanna know where his hands have been. now that you think about it, does he ever wash his hands? you wanted to gag.
“tanaka, can you not shove your hands in the bowl like that?” you ask with a disgusted look on your face.
“whatever. all the good flavored ones are gone.” tanaka rolled his eyes as he continued to dig into the bowl.
“it’s a communal bowl…” you sigh.
“am i not bestie material?” he asked you out of nowhere. “i thought me and ukai were besties.”
you weren’t sure why he was asking this all of the sudden, but if validating him meant he’d leave you alone, then you’ll do it. “yeah, you’re bestie material, tanaka…”
“would you ever consider me to be your best friend?” tanaka questioned.
now, tanaka was a terrible worker, but he wasn’t necessarily a bad friend. he would definitely do crazy things for the sake of his coworkers. you remember on your first day tanaka told you he kept ninja stars under his desk incase of intruders and he would defend you in an instant. sometimes he was a little dumb, but he had a good heart, shockingly enough.
“sure?” you shrug.
“excellent.” tanaka said before walking away all of the sudden.
while he wasn’t looking, you quickly grab the jellybean bowl and throw away its contents. you stare at the camera for a moment as they’ve captured what you’ve done before panning to ukai and suga returning from lunch. you instantly smile upon seeing suga’s face.
“hey.” you greet him.
“hey.” suga said as he hung his coat up.
ukai eyed the two of you before going into his office. you wondered what that was about, but you shook it off and went back to talking to suga. “so, how was lunch?”
“oh, you know, pretty productive.” suga then held up a printed picture from lunch, one with him, ukai, and a bunch of waitresses in maid outfits posing together. it was worth the money. “got a lot of work done.”
you blink for a moment as you soak in the picture in front of you. never would you have guessed that out of all places. still, it was hilarious.
“you’re the worst.” you say jokingly. “there’s no way.”
“ah, but there is.” suga replied. he blushed as you began to uncontrollably laugh. it was adorable. he found it to be one of his favorite sounds in the world.
you manage to control your laughter after a few deep breaths. no more joking around. “pretty sure you’ve got more cleaning to do.”
“yes, ma’am.” he jokingly saluted before going back to his desk.
suddenly, kiyoko stormed up to ukai’s office. you couldn’t remember the last time anyone ever saw her so angry like this. you even feared steam would come out of her ears, and since she was knocking on ukai’s door, you knew it wasn’t anything good.
“ukai, takeda and i need to talk to you.” she barged in.
ukai raised his hands defensively, acting as if he were getting arrested. “i didn’t do it, your honor!”
“what?”
“…what?”
kiyoko didn’t have time for nonsense. she was livid. “ugh, come on. you’ve got some explaining to do.”
before ukai could try to protest, kiyoko dragged him away from his desk and led him to takeda, the last person ukai wanted to talk to right now. it didn’t matter what the matter was, he hated talking to human resources.
“specs, what do you have the female specs dragging me here for?” ukai groaned as kiyoko forced him to have a seat.
“uh, a new charge appeared on the corporate credit card—” takeda began to say as calmly as possible.
“you spent a hundred bucks at a maid cafe! you didn’t even get approval for this!” kiyoko interrupted him, yelling over takeda. if there was any good cop, bad cop action happening, it was clear who fit which role.
“it was a business lunch!” ukai argued. “who said i needed approval?”
takeda let out a sigh. there was a reason ukai couldn’t be trusted with anyone’s money, even his own, for that matter. he felt like he had to treat him like a child, despite ukai being the one in charge.
“ukai, you just got your corporate credit card back.” takeda scolded him. “do you really want me to take it away again?”
“what am i, a five year old? this is ridiculous!” ukai exclaimed.
“corporate is gonna be so angry!” kiyoko argued with him.
“look, suga needed a relaxing lunch.” ukai explained. “he’s been depressed and it’s been affecting his productivity. how is that not work related?”
kiyoko froze. now she’s wondering if ukai knows what she knows. does he know what she knows? takeda didn’t seem to budge by ukai’s explanation.
“he seems fine to me.” takeda shrugged.
“you're not his friend, you don't know what i know.” ukai said. “he is in love with a girl he works with who's engaged, so just cut me some slack, okay?”
unbeknownst to them, nishinoya overheard the whole thing as he walked by. “are you talking about y/n?”
no way that just happened. ukai is at a loss for words, same with kiyoko. he messed up big time.
•••
“this is bad. so bad.” kiyoko said frantically to the camera. it was safe to say she was freaking out. “did suga tell ukai? or did he figure it out? god, suga! you’re such an idiot! i can’t stand this madness!”
•••
thanks to ukai’s big fat mouth, suga’s secret had spread throughout the entire office like the plague and he had yet to figure it out, but he would soon enough.
the first person nishinoya told was asahi, who didn’t really have much of an opinion on it as he was merely a temp. once word got to hinata, however, that was when the train really started rolling. suga had no chance to swear nishinoya to secrecy, so his secret was finally spilled to everyone. well, everyone except you… for now.
hinata rushed to kageyama’s desk. had he gone any faster, he would’ve crashed and knocked over all of kageyama’s things, even his computer. it certainly wouldn’t be fun having to pay for a new one.
“jesus, hinata!” kageyama jumped out of his chair. “what are you tryin’ to do to me?!”
“nothing, nothing!” hinata exclaimed. “guess what? suga has got it bad for y/n.”
woah. even kageyama couldn’t pass up hearing such juicy information. he was rather impressed in suga’s taste in women too. you were a rather attractive woman, after all. “what? really? not bad, suga. not bad…”
ukai walked by as hinata spilled all the beans to kageyama. as hinata noticed ukai’s presence, he just had to get his opinion on the matter. after all, it was ukai’s fault the secret was revealed to everyone.
“hey, ukai. do you think suga is gonna try to break up the wedding?” hinata asked.
ukai was put off by such an outlandish question. he felt so guilty about this, as shocking as it was. suga actually put his trust in him, and he blew it in less than a week. some boss he was.
“hinata, suga is my friend, so the only people that this crush really concerns is suga and y/n...” ukai said. “and also me.”
of course, ukai had to make some of this situation about him. no surprise about that.
as suga tried to get some cleaning done, he felt as if there were more cameras on him than usual. to test the theory, he got up to go to the bathroom. the crew dared to follow him, but suga stopped before entering. there was no way he could let them film him doing his business.
“did the production value go up or something?” he furrowed his eyebrows. “what’s going on?”
before the crew could respond, nishinoya appeared, asking suga the last question he thought he’d have to hear. “suga, why didn’t you tell me you had a crush on y/n?”
his heart dropped instantly. it’s happening.
•••
suga had to carry out this interview in the calmest way possible. he was livid, sure, but there also was a bit of relief. the burden of his secret was so hard to carry most days. but the only way he could make it out of this alive is if he played it off like he used to have a crush on you.
“well, the cat’s out of the bag. i used to have a crush on y/n and now i, uh…” suga hesitated. “don’t. how thrilling...”
the poorly fabricated lies continued.
•••
now that suga got that dreadful interview was over with, it was time for him to talk to you about the newfound elephant in the room. as he discovered everyone was talking about this crush behind your back, suga decided he was better off confronting you about it. besides, it was either you find out through suga himself or ukai.
suga found you alone, knowing this was the only time and place he could get through this conversation. he didn’t need anyone else hearing in on this.
“hey.” suga spoke up. you look up and see his face, your calming smile putting him at ease.
“hey.” you say. “did you find anything good in your desk?”
“oh yeah, i found a coupon for a free sandwich.” he said. there had to be a way to bring up his crush somehow. “it expired in august, but i did find my phone charger from two years ago.“
“wow, big day.” you reply. big day was quite the understatement.
“i don’t even have that phone anymore.” suga chuckled.
“even better.” you grin.
“yeah.” he blushed.
thinking that was the end of the conversation, you began to leave the room, but suga quickly stopped you. this was his only chance, he couldn’t let it slip away.
“hey, uh, listen…” suga said as you stop in your tracks. you look up to see what he has to say. shockingly, this was harder than he thought it would be. “um, i told ukai on the booze cruise—it’s so stupid—but uh, i told ukai that i had a crush on you when i first started here.”
you felt your heart skip a beat. he had a crush on you when he first started here? now your mind raced back to suga’s first day at japan pulp and paper. he seemed so nervous, so you were the one to welcome him with open arms as you had only been with the company for less than a year at that point. you knew what it was like to be the newbie, so you wanted suga to feel more at ease. you didn’t think anything more of your kindness back then.
“oh…” is all you manage to muster out. you can’t believe you were so blind to it all. now you felt silly for only just now developing a crush on him within the past couple months. it was wrong on so many levels now.
“well, i thought that, uh.” he stumbled with his words. “i figured you should hear it from me rather than, you know, ukai of all people…”
“right…” you nod. even you could agree with that. that would result in a much more awkward interaction with your boss.
“and seriously, it's totally not a big deal, okay?” suga insisted. “and when i found out you were engaged, i mean, you know…”
right, of course. that cursed ring on your finger. no wonder he didn’t see you that way anymore, right? at least that’s what you thought was the case.
“no, yeah, i get it. i mean, i kind of…” you pause. lie, just lie, you thought to yourself. “i thought that maybe you did when you first started.”
“oh, you did?” suga questioned. now he felt a little stupid.
“well, i mean, just cause we got along really quickly…” you shrug. it was the best excuse you could think of on the spot, really. you clicked with suga faster than you did with anyone else. maybe there was a reason to that, now that you think about it.
“oh, so you saw right through me, great.” he forced a laugh.
“yeah.” you giggle. you were thankful suga fell for your sham, him feeling the same. “so are you going to be like totally awkward around me now?”
“oh, yeah, yeah... hope that's okay.” suga replied with a hint of sarcasm.
“mhm.” you nod.
“and y/n?“
“yeah?”
“it was like three years ago, so i am totally over it.” suga said. even if he was far from over it, he had to lie for the sake of saving face. he didn’t want to give up since ukai told him not to, but suga couldn’t let you know the truth just yet. this was merely dipping his toes in the water.
“yeah, cool.” you say before finally leaving the room. suga figured he kept you for far too long, anyways.
“alright, cool…”
•••
“so… suga had a crush on me, huh? emphasis on had, i guess.” you shrug. “more reason to move on from my own silly crush, right?”
the crew share a collective look. you wonder what they’re all thinking. was there something you still didn’t know?
“right..?”
•••
suga was thankful his conversation with you went rather smoothly. all he had to anticipate now was ukai’s explanation for the mess that’s been made. who knows what ukai will manage to do, he was so predictable yet unpredictable at the same time.
ukai jumped when he heard suga knock, even worse when he saw his face. he knew exactly what this was about, so ukai had no choice but to motion for him to come in.
“hey.” suga said, closing the door behind him. no way could anyone else hear this right now. suga would lock the door and board it up if it had to.
“i know, i know, i know.” ukai sighed. “i messed up.”
it was actually a surprise to suga that he was owning up to his mistake. he figured he should go a little easy on ukai for the time being, depending on his future responses. “yeah, i was kinda wondering what happened with that…”
“i um… you know, expense reports.” ukai said, frantically trying to explain his way through this. “and then stupid specs! he’s such a goody two-shoes, disgusting. he got all on me about our lunch—”
“the one at the maid cafe.” suga interrupted him. the puzzle pieces were coming together.
“yes, the one at the maid cafe! said corporate was gonna be mad about it, and…” ukai began to tear up, not even trying to fight back his emotions. “i ended up spilling the beans! it was an accident, honest! god, i hope this doesn’t affect our friendship, suga!”
wow. and to think suga was just crying to him merely days ago. now the tables have turned. suga didn’t know whether this was sad or hilarious. would it be wrong to think it’s both? he sure thought of it to be both ways.
as much as suga wanted to totally flip out and scream his head off, he just… couldn’t. for one, he’d probably lose his job, but this situation was inevitable. secrets can’t stay secrets forever, no matter how much you want to hold them close. they always make their way out of your grasp somehow.
“hey, hey, hey. relax, man.” suga tried to calm ukai down. “it's… it’s not a big deal.”
ukai wiped away snot and tears, which was quite disgusting. “it’s not?”
“yeah, it’s fine.” suga let out a sigh. “it was bound to come out one way or another, i guess. everything’s gonna be alright, okay?”
“yeah… okay.” ukai nodded. he was thankful to not be on suga’s bad side, which he‘s never seen at its fullest potential. no one has, really. suga is far too patient for this disastrous company.
“good… good.” suga said. “see ya.”
man, ukai was such a violent crier.
as suga left ukai’s office, he eyed you for a moment, seeing you were walking over to where he just was. you would have no choice but to see ukai crying like a toddler, which no one should ever have to see in their entire life.
“good luck.” he quickly whispered to you as you walked past him, confusion written all over your face.
huh?
shrugging off suga’s random comment, you head into ukai’s office anyway, not even bothering to knock as the door was already open just a bit. nothing seemed out of the ordinary to you yet, as if ukai isn’t unordinary anyway.
“hey, here's your schedule for next week.” you set the paper down on ukai’s desk before noticing he’s wiping away tears. “woah, are you okay?”
“yeah, i'm fine.” ukai sniffled. “look, about you and suga—”
“oh no.” you shook your head. was that what he was crying over? woah, did suga make him cry? nice. “ukai, you don't have to—”
“no, i feel like it's my responsibility as your boss and also your friend.” he cut you off, but you didn’t see any need for this. you and suga cleared the air already, right? plus, ukai considering himself your friend was quite a stretch.
“no, really, it's okay.” you insist. “i know that suga had a crush on me when he first started or whatever. but that was a long time ago, so…”
“what? no. it wasn't that long ago. it was on the booze cruise.” ukai said.
what the heck could he possibly be talking about?
“suga had a crush on me on the booze cruise or he told you about it on the booze cruise?” you furrow your eyebrows.
ukai very quickly realized he messed up once again. he figured he was better off shutting up for once in his life. “ahh… yeah… i’m just gonna… shut my mouth. i’m clocking out.”
“oh… okay.” you say quietly as ukai stood up and walked out of his office so he could leave for the day. it was about five o’ clock, after all.
you follow ukai on his way out and see suga packing up, putting his coat on before grabbing his briefcase. he can detect your presence, even when leaning over for his briefcase as he could see your mary jane’s in his vision. black and shiny, just the way they always were. you never, ever left them scuffed.
“you need a minute?” he asked as you walked by.
“yeah, just need to get my coat on.” you reply.
suga waited for you to pack up before you walked out together, both heading towards the elevator. you and suga enter, just the two of you, stealing glances while the other wasn’t looking until your eyes inevitably meet. you can’t even deny how often he makes your heart race, it was almost a nuisance.
you didn’t know how long this song and dance would last, but you needed this feeling to go away before june. it simply can’t go on any longer.

regret
tsukishima kei (second year)
texts + writings at the bottom!
warnings: angst, slight cursing
---
Tumblr media
you and tsukishima had only started dating in march of your first year. both of you honestly had no problems, other than tsukishima's general nature of being petty, sarcastic and all of the above..but you saw the nice things about him, other than his best friend yamaguchi.
when you two had broken up, it was nearing the examinations. your best friend, haruto, the one who often 'joked' about pursuing you...he was the one who helped you through it all.
getting over tsukishima was one big problem, but letting go of everything about him was worse. but haruto was always patient..with you of course.
after a back and forth complimenting session with each other on the school rooftop during lunch, haruto decided to shoot his shot, and confess.
luckily, during those times of him helping you, you finally noticed him, and how great he was. you happened to develop a crush that only increased each day with him.
by the end of november, and the start of december, both of you were a couple.
-
"yn and ______ are so cute!" tsukishima heard some second years girls squealed as they scurried past the classroom to get to class.
tsukishima placed his book down, frowning at the news. he turns to his nervous friend beside him.
"did you know about them?" he asks, quite sternly, earning a hesitant nod from the freckled boy.
tsukishima kept hearing both those names throughout the day, making him annoyed. it would be either, he waited for her before they went to class, held her bag or books for her, gave her stuff etc.
tsukishima kei was sick of it.
you were quite known by the second years, before first years, since you always helped people. helping with even the simplest things seemed to make people like you apparently.
and that guy..haruto takao, the basketball club's starting player and number 4. supposedly, haruto had his jersey with the number 4 because it meant something about yn, that's what people said.
tsukishima didnt really care about other people, but when he had volleyball practice and surprisingly, the basketball team was also using the gym, he needed to get a glance.
tsukishima made a face at the amount of basketball players, and how loud they were..
his eyes then landed on a tall guy, but not as tall as him, stand to the side as he helped the juniors with the layout.
tsukishima smirked at the fact that he was taller, he wanted to boast about it if he could, until you peeked out from the gym doors, smiling softly as the basketball manager approached you as you both chatted happily.
when haruto finally turned around, he grinned at the sight of you, dragging his feet as he whined and embraced you, as his friends teased and copied his actions jokingly.
tsukishima grimaced at that. he did not like that. he almost had forgotten you both had broken up. he got out of his daze when yamaguchi handed him his filled waterbottle that yachi had just passed.
"are you okay, tsukki?" his worried friend asked.
"of course i am? why wouldn't i be?" he retorted, huffing as he walked off to the corner to stretch before practicing.
basketball practice started earlier, so it would end faster than the volleyball club. he noticed you waiting outside and wanted to approach you, thinking you waited for him, when he came running as he hugged you tightly.
tsukishima soon grew a hatred for haruto, he grew annoyed at everything he did. it was as if he was there to bite him back in the ass after the break up.
tsukishima would walk home from practice with his headphones on, and he would see both of you at the convenient store with haruto as you two shared earpiece and held hands as you two headed off.
he was in class because he didnt want to head out for lunch, he would see you two walk by, laughing about something as his arm was over your shoulder.
he would see you sit beside the basketball manager, helping to take notes since you took amazing notes. he would also see you converse with the coaches happily, as if the basketball team was a whole family, and you were always welcomed.
he was sick of it, sick of seeing you everywhere. in the crowds of students rushing to class, sitting at the school assembly hall where you sat four seats infront of him, or carrying books with your boyfriend.
he missed you, he didnt want to admit it, but it hurt. he wanted you again.
when volleyball practice was horrible, since hinata and kageyama were there, you always would reassure him, promise to bake him strawberry shortcake if he went to practice.
he dealt with all this frustration, until he got fed up. he was scrolling through twitter and unexpectedly saw a post of you..and him.
Tumblr media
his eyes glanced over the comments, scoffing at the "so cute!" and "i hope you two last long" comments.
tsukishima gripped his phone tightly, his veins popping as he shoved his phone away on the bed. he held his head in his hands, as if he had a headache.
tsukishima had referred to haruto as 'him' or 'your/her boyfriend' so many times, he forgot the poor guy's name.
but he didn't care, that was his final straw.
he needed to do this, even if he knew it was wrong. he wanted to try. he took a deep breath, and picked up his phone again, turned it on, clicked on the messages app as he went to your contact.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he let out a sigh.
he knew it would happen.
you were loyal, it was definite you would reject him. he glanced at his desk, looking at the two keychains hung up close together, a dinosaur, and a bunny.
when you were dating, you had bought that for the two of you, except he would have the bunnt and you would have the dinosaur, which represented tsukishima.
tsukishima dislikes the idea of putting the bunny keychain on his bag since it was 'childish', but you didnt care, and hung his dinosaur keychain on yours.
however, when you returned it, he just decided to keep it both.
a couple days after you broke up, when he heard his door bell ring, he was surprised and slightly annoyed to see haruto there instead to return everything he had given you or what you had 'borrowed'.
when he brought his stuff to his room, he dropped everything to the side and instead picked up his hoodies. he could smell your perfume on it, but he liked it.
he didnt know why, but he texted you right after, complaining, almost scolding you on why you didnt wash it before. that made you feel much worse during the break up times.
tsukishima kei wasn't one to cry, it wasn't rarely, but he almost never cried. but..apparently that day was different.
tsukishima sat on the bed tiredly, and held your bunny keychain..and cried.
he didnt know what to do but slowly the tears fell as he didnt even care on wiping it.
he missed you, he wanted you back..but that would never happen.

What are you personal thoughts on the HQ Kusuo boys + Coach Ukai's first time eating out their s/o? And I mean it's their first time doing this at all, not just with their s/o

These guys would be the hesitant, shy ones. They’ll slowly open your legs with reddened cheeks and a flustered expression while they gaze down at your beautifully wet pussy. They’ll slowly look up at you and your nod is all the confirmation they need to bend down and get a closer look at your dripping hole. They stare marvelled at the bare sight of you, unable to comprehend how much they want to taste you and how a mere body part can look so appetising. However while their mind screams at them to devour you, they’re still nervous because all they want to do is make you feel good and they don’t want to fuck that up.
So with shaky hands they’ll grip your legs and bring their mouth closer to where you both want it and tentatively give a kitten lick to your clit. Your surprised moan and twitching body has their head snapping up to look at you, so afraid they fucked up and hurt you. Your velvety smooth voice reassuring them it felt good has their tense body calming down and returning to the task at hand. While they may have been new to this, they were a quick learner and after seeing your reaction to their tongue on your clit they knew that was where to focus. Slightly less hesitant than before, they placed a gentle kiss on your puffy clit before lapping at it with soft strokes that slowly got bolder the longer they heard your whiny moans and voice telling them how good it feels. Your hands snaking themselves into their hair further encourages them to pick up the pace, alternating between using their tongue on your clit to sucking it into their mouth - both of which had you crying out their name.
They take a break from your clit to lap at the juices leaking out of your hole, the taste of you transporting them to a place of total euphoria and has them groaning into you “taste so fucking good baby and its all for me”. The once shy demeanour has now morphed into a self-assured one that would make you think they’ve been eating pussy for years, their movements are confident and every lick and suck is well placed - as if their body is now perfectly in-tune with yours and they know what you need. That seems to be the case as it doesn’t take long for them to make you come on their tongue and greedily lap at your release and refuse to release your thighs until they’re satisfied, “that was so hot baby, can we do that again?”

These are the fake confident guys. They’ll act all assertive and pretend they know what they’re doing but on the inside they’re terrified - because just like the other guys they want to make you feel good but are insecure about being bad at it. However one thing they do have that gives them a bit of a leg up is exposure to these acts, they’ve read and watched plenty and are confident they can replicate what they’ve seen or read.
So with bold movements they’ll grip your legs and drag you towards them while throwing a self-assured smirk your way but unbeknown to them you can feel the slight tremble in their hands that they’ve tried to suppress. When their eyes move from yours to your pussy, the brave facade they previously wore crumbles for a few seconds, they sit gaping at the sight of your pretty pussy covered in a sheen of slick and they swallow the saliva gathering in their mouths - no pussy has got them as turned on as yours just did. Full of curiosity and desperateness, they bring their face level to your cunt and spread your sticky lips apart with two fingers, softly blowing on your throbbing clit. The jump of your hips and low whine has them lowly chuckling and there’s no hesitance in sight.
Licking their suddenly dry lips, they waste no time in enveloping you into their mouth, their tongue licking the length of you while paying special attention to your clit, swirling it with their tongue before gently sucking it. They’re full of curiosity and can’t wait to try out everything they’ve read and heard about and with that thought they gather a glob of saliva before letting it dribble down your pussy, making sure they rub the wetness into you. You cry out at the feeling of their warm spit and it’s contrast to the cool air, trying to close your legs in pleasure. They softly tut you while holding your thighs apart as they resume eating you out. Their noses grind against your clit while their tongue experimentally makes its way inside you, curling it upwards as you grip the sheets and hump their face. They’ll playfully pull away and tease you “see I knew I’d make you feel good baby” before inserting a finger and harshly flicking your clit with their tongue- the dual feeling has you spasming around them in no time, chanting their name while you hold them against your clit “you taste better than I could ever imagine”

Whiny subby little babies that’ll do anything to make you feel good and don’t trust themselves so they’ll just lie there and let you sit on their face and hump their tongue and nose to get off. They’re fully in heaven when your juices smear across their face and you grip their hair/head to get better leverage.
While you hump his face with your head thrown back, they’re grinding against air as their hard dicks strain to be released. They’ll have their tongue lolled out while you grind your clit against it and then guide him to to insert it into your hole- something that took a bit of time because they’re new to this after all. After their tongue is inside you probing your walls, you slowly lift yourself up and down, fucking yourself on his thankfully long tongue. Every time you bounce back down their nose deliciously hits your clit and has you clenching around his muscle- the foreign feeling has his eyes rolling back and hand making its way to his cock. It doesn’t take long for you to cum, clenching around him one last time as he happily sucks your release into his mouth and licks you clean. Once you move yourself of him, he lies their in a daze with a fucked out smile and wet pants fresh with his release “thank you, thank you baby for letting me make you feel good”
