Wait why does she have to reward him again? Isn't the whole point of slavery is that you don't have to pay them anything? You tell your slave to do something and their reward is "they don't get whipped bloody or hanged for being a defective product" isn't that what slavery is?

Conversely, also make sure the sopping wet pathetic meow meow gets the one thing they're actually good at revealed at a convenient time and have them go ham on the problem, showing to themselves and the reader that they aren't useless and can be part of the team
Hey, hey! Friendly reminder to make sure your supposedly “fearless” character gets their darkest fear revealed in the worst way possible so they break down into a vulnerable shaking mess in front of all the people they care about

My train of thought while designing a creature (dramatized account)
Artist brain: Ooh let's make the anatomy. Vibe. Symbolism. It gonna symbolize so hard
Engineer brain: No. Do not. Load bearing ability bad. This thing will snap like a twig under its own weight
Artist brain: B-but the poignant tragedy of what the creature represents should be woven into its very bones
Engineer brain: It looks structurally unsound. It is ugly
Conceptualization [Difficult: Success] - Man, you sound exactly like Harry Du Bois right now

Mortal Engines municipal darwinism is a fascinating concept. Moving cities that run around and eat each other like animals. There are prey cities and predator cities but you can add so much more
Like yes, there are scavenger cities that pick apart the leftovers of hunts, but are there parasite cities? Towns and districts that siphon fuel and parts until one day they disappear like they were never there? Do Londoners decide to go to some steampunk cinema theatre thing only to find the theatre and the entire district it's located in is gone? Does London have a police unit constantly looking for seams and suspicious pipes and secret attachment points ready to be severed when enough fuel has been stolen?

YOU - "Kim. Do you think we're friends in other universes too?"
SHIVERS - Two cats jump from chimney to chimney, one cleans soot off of the other's face. A willow sways gently next to her birch, their roots tangle together deep underground. Two boys chase each other through the woods with sticks held like swords. An elderly couple solves the day's crossword puzzle over cups of coffee.
KIM KITSURAGI - "That is a very far-fetched idea, detective. Let's focus on the here and now."

People with low spoons, someone just recommended this cookbook to me, so I thought I'd pass it on.
I always look at cookbooks for people who have no energy/time to do elaborate meal preparations, and roll my eyes. Like, you want me to stay on my feet for long enough to prepare 15 different ingredients from scratch, and use 5 different pots and pans, when I have chronic fatigue and no dishwasher?
These people seem to get it, though. It's very simple in places. It's basically the cookbook for people who think, 'I'm really bored of those same five low-spoons meals I eat, but I can't think of anything else to cook that won't exhaust me'.
And it's free!
