The common misconception about Vanitas' japanese dialogues in KH3.

DISCLAIMER:

This post is not intended to unvalidated anyone's HCs or interpretations, just to talk about a common belief.

Please read the whole thing before starting an argument.

Every time someone tries to contradict someone who considers Ventus and Vanitas as "brothers" because of Vanitas' English dialogue in KH3 they use the excuse of "Vanitas doesn't call Ventus brother in Japanese."

This is false.

In Japanese, Vanitas calls Ventus "brother" 3 times:

Translation: "I'm sorry I didn't notice your strange appearance, brother."

Translation: "It's hard to have a bad brother"

Translation: "We are brothers who make up for each other's lacks."

Plus a 4th time if we go to KH3 ReMind:

Translation: "How can you say such cruel things to your brother?"

The key word here is "兄弟" (Kyōdai), which means "Brother" as well as "Sibling" and "Sister".

And as seen in the last pic it also means "brother" in Chinese.

NOW, my research also led me to some natives who say that the word can also be used in the same way that "Bro" is used in English, that is, among friends. (personal take: although I PERSONALLY don't think this fits with them, but this is just my opinion ignore it)

So in the end, this is still a matter of the viewer's "interpretation"

Seeing them as brothers or not, it is still difficult to specify even now, however people should stop using the excuse of:

"Vanitas doesn't call Ventus brother in Japanese"

because it is false regardless of the context that each one gives it.
