KINNPORSCHE TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY EVENT
— prompt: favourite family
Pete slides into the driver's seat with a sigh. "So, you punched him because...?"
"He was being homophobic", Macau grumbles. "And he insulted you and hia."
Pete nods. He understands, but Vegas isn't here, so he has to be the serious one.
"Don't get yourself suspended just because of some asshole."
Macau hums in acknowledgement.
A moment passes.
Pete chuckles. "Did you get him good?"
"I think I broke his nose."
"Nice. Good job."
He offers Macau his fist and Macau beams as he bumps his own against it.
"Don't tell hia?"
Pete snorts and starts the car. "You wish."

One of my favorite quotes is “everything in life is about sex, except sex. Sex is about power.” Misattributed to Oscar Wilde.
Vegas absolutely understands this idea. When he tells Pete, “A guy like you, it’s no  fun if you don’t give in” It’s not about consent at all, it’s about power and manipulation. We already know that Vegas is willing to engage in some level of SA because we saw it on-screen, with Porsche, so it’s a bullshit idea that consent is that important to him.
In Pete’s case, though, there’s no power in him raping Pete. He already has him held hostage, under his control. There’s a chance Pete wouldn’t even fight back, just considering it another form of torture.
No, Vegas feels vulnerable and angry and that won’t do. He tries to get Pete to back off, with aggression — “You think it serves me right, huh?” and instead, Pete offers him sympathy and understanding. So Vegas defaults to what he does best  — manipulation  — to regain a feeling of power. You can see the change here, from the “real Vegas” he’s been showing Pete, to the fake one.
He manipulates Pete, first by saying that Pete likes him moody and angry. By implying his behavior turns Pete on, it takes the weakness out of his actions. Then he manipulates him by giving him a choice. If he can get Pete aroused and thinking about sex with Vegas of his own free will, he gets the ultimate power rush. Lusting after Vegas is a betrayal of Pete’s commitment to the major family in a way that Pete eating and even Pete staying by his side when Khun Spikes dies is not. Eating is for survival and compassion is for the other person.
I think he was genuinely surprised when Pete kissed him though. He’s gotten what he wanted. He feels like he has the upper hand back and he can leave cock of the walk once more. He underestimates and misunderstands Pete every step of the way — because he’s not used to dealing with people who aren’t playing a game at all times — and this is a perfect example. He tells Pete not to hold it in, and he doesn’t.
There’s no advantage to Pete choosing Vegas in this, unlike Tawan, or Ken, who are at least partially looking out for themselves when they betray Kinn. Choosing to have sex with Vegas was solely for Pete. That was Vegas, owning Pete’s desire. That was Pete’s desire for Vegas being more important than anything else.
By making Pete choose him though, Vegas gets caught up in his own snare. For maybe the first time in his entire life, Vegas isn’t second, isn’t also a means to an end. And when Pete gives in, it’s not tentative, not hesitant, not holding back something to have an ace in the hole. Pete offers him everything, and that feeling consumes him as well as Pete. And that’s how Vegas, despite his manipulations, gets captured by the game.

“Vegas made two promises to his mother. And from a very young age, he knows he can only keep one of those promises. He knows he can’t be a good person and keep his little brother safe at the same time.
or Vegas will gladly be the villain if it means his little brother doesn’t have to be.”

Prompt # 11 Favorite family  The Kittisawasds
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It feels like so much of Porsche’s personality is shaped by having to take care of Chay. That goofy, bright, happy attitude? Well, that’s the best way to convince a scared little kid that everything is going to be okay, which he had to do constantly because of their circumstances.
The fact that he almost immediately forgives people, no matter what they do to him? It’s not just that he devalues himself compared to Chay, though it certainly is that too. It’s also that when you have to depend on the kindness of strangers to survive, you can’t afford to hold a grudge. Surviving by himself is one thing, but he had Chay depending on him, so he learned to swallow it down. The one grudge we see him hold steady through the whole series is the one against Thee, who actively caused damage to not just Porsche, but Chay.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again. Everything about Chay screams how much and how well Porsche loves him. Even in their circumstances, he’s confident enough, brave, and bold enough to shoot his shot with Kim. He’s strong enough to not only confront Kim and ask for the truth instead of playing the misunderstanding/miscommunication game, but to cut him off and mean it. He’s determined enough to call Porsche out on his sacrifice play and try to force him to end it — only giving in when he finds out Porsche loves Kinn.
Despite the memories of Pat and Nampheung in that house, and whatever fuckery Thee was getting up to, they were, in reality, a family of two, boys raising each other in bad circumstances. Sure, they don’t always make the smartest choices, but ultimately the fact that they came out so well, that they are sweet, funny, decent, loving, generous, hopeful bright lights in the world is a goddamn miracle.

I've got thoughts percolating about this and future scenes - what Kinn's idea of family is compared to Vegas and Porsche, what's considered justice in the mafia and what's considered moral - but for now, I've got a question for you all:
If Korn hadn't gone the saner route of sparing Gun (while also taunting him with his magnanimity) - if he'd instead let Kinn decide, would he have shot Gun?
Going to keep to just the most basic options, but feel free to share your reasoning!

Slightly Unhinged Kinnporsche Re-watch: Episodes 6-8
I stayed up all night Friday to catch up and braid my hair. Abandon hope all ye who enter- this is a lot, but I had so much fun. I'm breaking it up into two sections and it's still too much.
SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE SERIES AS THIS IS A REWATCH.
My thoughts, as dictated to my voice recorder last night:
Episode 6:
This is the first episode where we really, fully get to see who Kinn is and I genuinely like him. He and Porsche are so well suited for each other in their goofy, bickering personalities.
Their first little argument in the forest reveals a conflict between them that I don't think they have verbally addressed: Porsche is like "You should be able to survive on your own....my life has been a disaster since I met you," which is a fair judgment. But the funny thing is, it's true about Porsche from Kinn's perspective as well; no one mission so far has gone right with Porsche. Everything has been in chaos since they met. HOWEVER, I think this bottle episode did serve a purpose for the character as well as the audience, as they had a moment to realize the chaos is external. Together, they are much stronger and even happier.
Speaking of this being a bottle episode, I truly believe it is one of the most effective bottle episodes I have ever seen. It effectively convinces us as the audience as well as the characters that they care about each other and can make this work.
Water has healing properties. I don't want to assume that writers intended that, but I do find it quite beautiful that the moment they find the water, that tension is healed. They are still saying the same things to other as they did during the argument, but there is no malice in it.
Vegas and English is a topic I am interested in. We often see him speak English with Macau, and it seems very natural to him. It implies that he spent a significant amount of time abroad, which, yeah, I can see that for him, but also I can't see that for his father. I can see Vegas wanting to travel the world and learn multiple languages and it being another tool in his arsenal for being able to make people like him, 'cause like that's at the core of his deception and manipulation. But I cannot see Gun letting yet another thing out of his control.
This lead me to the realization, all these years later, of why I am drawn to Vegas as a character. It's not, "oh, I want people to like me" - no, it's a safety thing where he's like, "I need people to like me. People have to like me because the only other option is that they fear me with every fiber of their being and it's hard to keep that shit up. I need them to like me. I need my dad to like me so he treats me better. I need my brother to like me so that he stays safe. I need my cousin's bodyguards to fear me, and if they don't fear me, they're deeply in love with me." And I spent so many years of my life being the same way, desperate for everyone to like me so I stay safe. So of course I love Vegas- we got the same lego set but built different things.
Vegas being like, Oh my gosh, I noticed you guys have been watching me forever; here's some food, and it's the damn bread sponsorship. OK, fine. It's the damn bread sponsorship. I'm cool with that. Here's the other thing, tho: you went to a store with your brother and you're like, these bozos have been watching me the entire time. Let's buy some stuff to mess with them; they're gonna need some mosquito repellent, they're gonna need some bread 'cause we're sponsored, and...let me get these condoms just to mess with them. And Pete screaming at the sight of them? Pete. Baby. You need a vacation. I feel like Vegas and Pete were swirling around each other's orbit for so long, but they didn't really, truly become entangled until Vegas messed up and intertwined their souls in the temple, but more on that later.
Proximity is one of my favorite tropes. Why? Because I think nobody can stand me. But also because it's very interesting to see if people will turn to love or violence when stuck together. And these two chose both. Just like, just like Pete and Vegas did.
I find it very interesting that Kinn says, "I just realized you could be afraid of something." He assumes fearlessness in Porsche. Maybe not even like a heroic kind of fearlessness, maybe the reckless kind because of what he gets up to and what happens to him. Is there a part of him that admires Porsche? I think he does. I think part of him admires his freedom, too, in that fearlessness.
"What's your dream job?" I do not dream of Labor, lol. But honestly, Porsche's dream of opening a bar on a beach first sounds like this is a man who values connections with others. Not just people that he knows well, but people he's complete strangers with. Like he values that human connection. He then continues to say on a private beach, showing he's lazy. He wants an easy life and it makes sense considering how hard he's worked for how little he's gotten. So it's like this man has worked so hard, he's tired. He's ready to just take a break and take a breather and enjoy life. It is so indicative of him just being very tired of the work he's had to do, but also very tired of not having a choice for so long. That bar will be just full of his choices.
"Tankhun might have pretended to go crazy after being kidnapped," isn't a cruel thought, and I'm glad he shared it with Porsche. When that happened shifted everything down. Right now, Kinn has to be the "eldest", has to be the heir. He has to take on all this responsibility. His dream of being a singer moves down the line as well and he sees Kim go out and live his life and become Wik. That's gotta sting a little. As somebody who has younger siblings who have excelled at things that I have not been able to achieve for myself, I have so much joy and happiness for them. I'm so glad those things happened for them, but there's a part of my heart that aches because that is something that's never going to happen for me. Not because I hate that they flourish, I'm so happy that they do, but because that is something that has been lost to me. And so I imagine that Kinn feels something similar when he looks at his brothers. He sees things that he's lost, things that can never be his, and I imagine that makes him just a little bit bitter, not towards them, but towards the situation that he's in and their damn father. But like, we know how I feel about Korn.
I do like that Porsche doesn't dismiss that the father probably paid them off, but he does also continue that you might still be good. I also like that him sticking up for Tankhun, too, and being like no, I think that trauma can make you change as a person. I think it can fuck you up.
OK, this is now day what, three day of them being missing? Really? I refuse to believe the whole damn mafia can't find two men in the forest who have barely moved away from the same place they've been in this entire time.
Yeah, they're talking around It. We're not using the language that I personally would find appropriate to use when talking about this, but they are saying it. He deeply violated what little trust Porsche had in him, and that's not right in any universe. This drama commits the same sins many BLs do with romanization of assault, but I truly appreciate that they carved out the time to clearly state that it is wrong.
There's something deeply honest about Porsche, and I'm still trying to find the words to explain it. It's not that he never lies, you know? It's not like he's not capable of deception. That's not what it is. It's like Porsche knows who he is at all times.
Episode 7:
The OK, genuine question. I know this seems mean, and I understand it's because he's the main character, but logically speaking; why is Porsche on this mission? I get it. We trust Porsche now. Maybe we even like him. He's a friend. He's also a documented screw up. You can love someone and know that they're not suited for the work that you put them into. Porsche is a liability, for goodness sake.
I love how the caption said jeez and Porsche very clearly said shit.
OK, hear me out. Hear me out. I know I'm a Vegas apologist. I'm not going to apologize for being a Vegas apologist, but that was an entrance. Hot. I find it so interesting to see in every scene when Pete is looking at Vegas, he is not covering his emotions like he usually does. He usually puts a fake expression on his face when Vegas is looking at him, but his face is so open when he is looking at Vegas. It's only when he's away that he should be putting on the ACT that he does the big smile and it always fits awkwardly with Vegas.
OK, so this part where Vegas clearly did is showing off his home; he's going through the motions of the effort to show, "hey, look at how different I am from Kinn. Look at how different the minor family is from the major family. Look how much better we are, how much well suited you are to be with us instead of them. They're all stuffy with their suits and with their rules and with their compound. Our compound is like, integrated into society. You have people selling things here and they all love me." Knowing how Vegas is, part of me wants to believe that they truly like him; you know that he's gone through the effort of making sure that everybody here really likes him genuinely, and this isn't an act. Part of me wants to believe that. But another part of me knows that is just as likely that a memo went around the day before saying, "when I bring these people through, if you don't greet me and act like you're happy to see me, you will be 6 feet deep tomorrow." So who is Vegas? What are we to believe? Because what he wants Porsche to believe is very clear to us. But we as the audience, we have to see both and read between the lines. We don't get to see Vegas with people after his plan falls apart, we only get to see him with his people here.
Good thing to point out Vegas totally heard them talking about the grilled pork. He's aware of their needs and caters to them, not just Porsche. He makes the point of like, why does everybody seem so comfortable around here? I have to ask myself, like how much of it is real and how much of it is an act? If anybody would know, it SHOULD be arm and Pete, right? But also no, because they've always been with the major family.
Gun cannot dress to save his life. What are we wearing, my dear? Is that a polo shirt with a cravat? What is that for???? Ew. Brother, EW. What's that? What's that, brother?
Kim and Chay break: ok, Kim, you break into the baby bean's bedroom and find a shrine to you, and instead of being like"ok, this kid is not part of plot to tear down my family," your brains said "oh i can use this against him." I specifically wrote in my notes "Breaking and entering. Grand larceny. Bitch ass behavior. You're guilty of a lot of things, Kim."
I love Pete for being a snitch, but why is he such a snitch? Like, why is Pete primed to be the gossip? Why is Pete XOXO Gossip Girl?
I love that Vegas is so crafty; he's anticipated the assumption that Kinn has made and what he he's said, so and so he's going to play like he's innocent in all of this. "Oh my gosh, he had a boyfriend named Tawan and it went bad. He had to kill him." And he walks away with his grin on his face.
The way Kinn treats Pete is perplexing for me because he puts a great amount of trust in Pete but also has such little regard for somebody who he puts that much trust in.
The sad thing is that Porsche and Vegas could make a really hot couple. That's the tragedy.
Episode 8:
Can we talk about these curtains? I don't. I don't give a fuck about anything else is happening in the scene. Those automatic curtains that raise at a certain time of day to wake you up gently. Who needs servants when you have automation?
OK, Pete, you can't tell me that Pete didn't know. You can't. Why is breakfast just the bread? There is no way on God's green earth that Pete didn't know.
I feel like this episode was just them fucking all over the house.
YOK MY QUEEN. She reads Porsche so well. I love that you can tell how close they are; he trusts her with everything and goes to her for advice.
"Love is Love. Love wins." I love her. I love how she's like we've had this conversation in a different context, Porsche. Her advice is so solid, tho- you need to things together other than just sex lol.
OK, they are truly adorable together, and that's a testament to Mile and Apple's like natural chemistry. These two were really cute together. Love the continuing this trend of forcing Ken to be a person episode.
I find Tawan to be SUCH a funny character. I cannot take him seriously. I love actor, I've seen him in other things, but Tawan is so weird and desperate it feels like a comedy.
Sidenote, can we address that Porsche and Tawan look NOTHING like the boys Kinn would keep around? Like. Idk what that means, I only ever took one psych course, but I find it interesting.
Most important moment of the show:
Tumblr media
Can you imagine if Kinn just shot Tawan again, then and there, no hesitation? Can you imagine the mental breakdown Vegas would have over his plans constantly falling apart?

Love the passive 'when Don died' line Vegas uses here (assuming that's not a translation mistake) - because uh, you know who killed Don?
Vegas.
And you know who's plan it was to kill Don in the first place?
Well...
Tumblr media
Now, I don't doubt that Gun had a big hand in the plan to get rid of Don - after all, Gun was giddy at the chance to score a win over his brother:
Tumblr media
But by choosing to go for this flashy win, the minor family screwed themselves over in a major way. Suddenly, all of Vegas's under-the-table dealings were going to be brought out in the open - forcing him to act fast; bring in Tawan to distract Kinn, woo Porsche over to his side, sic Porsche on the Yakuza...
And, of course, it all falls apart.
It's the big tragedy of the minor family - they're so focused on beating the main family, they can't even see how much they're hurting themselves along the way.
