Summary: In the dead of night amidst the Hiss crisis, Polaris draws Jesse down to the Panopticon to speak with the Bureau’s former Head of Research.
This commission piece was written for @a-flappy-bat who wanted Jesse and Darling working out some of their angst based on their complicated history. It takes place after the crisis with the Hiss has died down but hasn’t totally been solved. Jesse has a lot on her mind, including grief, frustration, and confusion with Darling’s behavior as we witnessed it in game. Thank you again for the commission! I hope you enjoyed it! It was a pleasure to work with you 💕
Just in case you haven’t heard, I’m currently open for writing commissions for Alan Wake and Control! You can find more information about them on my Ko-Fi or on my carrd!
In case anyone is wondering what my fave Control fic is, it’s still Full of Stars by @laudanine
And I don’t know if my tribute does it justice but I finally finished my 3 hour podfic of it
And I have thoughts on podfics now …
Podfics are a labor of love. A tribute that goes beyond fanart. A ‘this is maybe going to get two kudos for the dozen hours of vocalizing and editing, but who cares’ and this one isn’t even that long. But believe me when I say that reading a story aloud, hearing it pour forth in your own cursed character tinted voice will change how you interpret a scene, a theme, a character relationship. You’ll unearth feelings. Youll realize aspects that your eyes glanced over when you’re rereading a paragraph for the fourth time because your lips keep fudging together words—that take is too nasally, too fast, nope don’t breathe there and oh no! the cat sneezed—read that whole section again. I thought I knew my fave fanfic. Beat by beat, I thought I had the gist memorized. I thought I understood it. Well, I got to know it all over again, got to fall in love with the story all over again, and this time something wonderful might have actually sunk in between my ribs. How deeply prosody influences text.
If you haven’t recorded yourself reading a chapter of a favorite story ( even if you hate your speaking voice, like me), if you want to fall in love with that amazing fanfic that you’ve read countless times…the plot, the clever words, the funny bits, if you want to inhabit the burning tension between those beloved characters all over again; give podficing a try. It’s a uniquely rewarding experience.
