RALLY DAY 2019!!! This was the first Rally Day I have gone to--while it’s open to all years, it’s definitely an event focusing on seniors! The fun part of Rally Day is that seniors wear hats, which range from cute to hilarious. I wore the “Beaver Fever” hat passed down from Wilson HP to Wilson HP, referencing our dear mascot, Cletus the beaver! I’ve become friends with so many other seniors, just this past year--one of whom is Kennedy, also a blogger! You can see her post on Rally Day here.
The part I was most excited for was the announcement of the commencement speaker-- Ai-jen Poo!! She is an incredible Asian American woman who has done fantastic things with the domestic workers’ movement, which I learned about in my history seminar on domestic work. I am SO excited to hear an Asian American woman speak at commencement, and one that I have already learned about!!!!

President McCartney offered a super cool opportunity to all students on campus to participate in a lottery for free tickets to see a play about Gloria Steinem, aptly named “Gloria: A Life” at the Daryl Roth Theatre! My friend and I luckily got picked, so we got on a bus one Saturday morning to go to New York City.
The theatre itself was really cool--I had never been one that was set up so the audience surrounded the stage. When the actress playing Gloria Steinem came out, I laughed--she looked exactly like Gloria! The shoutout to all the Smith College students was also really cool, and we all had a good laugh at the depiction of Smith in the play. It was also more interactive than I assumed it would be--the last part of the play had the audience ask questions and interact with the actors. Linking the activism of Gloria Steinem to the activism today, it left us all thinking about how we all can continue to work a better future. I really enjoyed the experience, and it was really cool to go for free!

One of my favorite things every year is going to Smith To Do: Terrariums. I always enjoy the new and different pot options they have for the free succulents they give out, and this year they had a teapot!!! I couldn’t resist!!!!!! What was also really cool was that we could paint the teapot if we wanted to, so I went with red - my favorite color. I’m also taking Horticulture this semester, even though I’m awful at science (and particularly biology!), but I just enjoy growing my plants so much I decided to go for it even though I knew I was going to struggle a bit. The first succulent I got from Smith To Do from my first year is still alive and thriving, which makes me incredibly happy! Plus, who doesn’t love a cute and free plant?

I decided to take advantage of some of the free trips provided by the Smith Outdoors Program and went snowshoeing!! We went to the Daughters of the American Revolution State Forest and did a lot of walking. I had never gone snowshoeing before, and it was really interesting trying to figure out how to walk with the little paddles on my feet! In the first picture above, we were actually standing on a large lake that had completely frozen over and had snow piled on top of it. Hiking was a really nice way to relax and experience the outdoors on a day where I would normally hole up in my room and sleep the day away!

Wilson House performed at Celebration last November--an annual event that happens in the Quad that celebrates all different forms of love. Generally my house tends to read a poem, but this year we decided to do a dance! We did the Just Dance performance of “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor. It was a lot of fun, even though it was super cold and kind of scary too. But considering Wilson is the main stage, we decided we had to put on a good show--and it was super worth it!

Super belated Winter Weekend pictures!!!! I love a good chance to get dressed up, and it’s always incredible to see how the HSECs transform the living room. We invited the Smiffenpoofs to perform last semester, and it was really nice to cheer on some of the members that live in our house as well! Honestly, it was kind of sad to know this was my last Winter Weekend at Smith College, but I had a really great time with friends ❤

This year, I am the Wilson House President! I have been heavily involved in house community since my first year, and it was an honor to be elected as house president and continue to encourage house community and best of all to HAVE FUN with the rest of my housemates! Here are my fellow house presidents during training, which we came back a few weeks early for in August. I have loved working with the other house presidents as we meet up every week to discuss what we can do for our houses. Shoutout to the other HPs!!

Hey everyone! It’s been awhile... Here are some belated photos of flowers around Smith campus! Especially now that it’s so cold around here, it’s nice to remember that there are tons of flowers and greenery all around campus that will pop back up again in spring semester.

I visited Smith and I loved it but how do you meet guys?
I’m so glad you enjoyed visiting Smith! As for the dating scene on campus, I know a lot of people who using dating apps or go to parties off campus in order to meet guys. To some extent you may have to spend a little more energy in order to meet people, but there are men on our campus from the Five College Consortium taking classes or coming as part of a program/event, so that’s one way as well. You definitely have options! Hope this helped :)
