FINAL PROJECT
Project Title: “Framed by the Hooman (Human)” After looking through the hundreds of photos we took this evening, I decided that these are the closest when matching the pairs. The subjects are a family and their dog Teddy. After looking at different forms of Typology from photographers like Boris Mikhailov, Bernd and Hilla Becher, and Susan Barnett, I decided to take the same type of photograph, and recreate it in different ways.Although all of the images have a frame within a frame, they also have the human and the dog in the same position—or as close as we could with a dog (making it typology). The images are of the kitchen, a living room, a recording studio (in the house), and the dinner table. Everyone was also instructed to have a straight face, no smiling, because I knew that it would be difficult to make the dog smile in each photo as well. I’ve decided to have each of the photos (and their matches) placed side by side and enlarged. One particular detail, though: The dog’s picture in each match has to be slightly bigger than the human’s.

We looked at different forms of light and shading in photos. The first photo displaying full light, head on. The photo is well lit (straight ahead with a silver sheet for the light to reflect off of) in order to remove all possible shadows. The second being a soft shadow because only her natural shadows are present because of the way the light is placed, straight ahead. In the last picture, the lighting is at an angle, to her left, and therefore creates a hard shadow on the right side of her face.
