just saying, if Annabeth was forced to leave Percy there, she would have marched into the underworld, threw hands with Hades, and carried Sally Jackson out in her teeth if she had too. There would be nothing stopping that little killing machine if she was forced to leave Percy after all that

i literally cannot stress enough how ingenious a shot this is to show how despite being in an open and free space, the trio are still very much trapped with the chimera and echidna chasing after them, making them the prey and their enemies the predator––a theme that is ongoing throughout the episode and even incorporates animal abuse as a critique of humans, something that grover points and ends up comparing their situation to, how they are indeed prey but they shouldn’t be helpless and how athena’s temple, despite being a closed space is a sanctuary that grants them freedom and security...until, ofcourse, it doesn’t and they are trapped once more, cornered, as if they’re mice being messed with on the whims of stronger beings and how an escape only comes at a huge cost to their well-being. that one frame, for me, encapsulates their dire situation so well. there is no need for oppressive music, or dark colouring. a clever bit of use of some already existing architecture like this just adds so much to the visual storytelling.

it really shows how people that made the show care about the source material cause i just keep thinking how the movies open with percy randomly being under water for like several minutes cause haha get it son of poseidon while in the show we get a flashback of sally trying to teach percy to swim but he was scared and was clinging to his mom cause he trusts her more than anyone and definitely more than his father and then not really wanting to accept poseidon’s help in the mississippi until he hears the words his mom used to tell him. yeah

The best part of the percy jackson books is that from percy's perspective hes just an easygoing funny cool guy who seems pretty harmless but the moment you see him from someone elses pov hes terrifying. Just a crazy good fighter, a force of nature killing machine, literally gets mistaken for a god in disguise. But he doesnt see that side of himself at all because hes too busy arguing with authority figures and respecting women. I love him

Mmm the villain of the episode is an entitled white lady who called the cops on a bunch of kids, calls them monsters because of an aspect of themselves they can't change that makes them disruptive and dangerous, and hides behind a veneer of being a caring mother. And Annabeth is black. The social commentary is commentarying

Cannot Stress Enough how important it is to read Howl’s Moving Castle written by Diana Wynn Jones immediately after watching Howl’s Moving Castle directed by Hayao Miyazaki. When he made the movie he was of course upset with war and thus included it in the film, but you gotta understand. You really Gotta Understand. Every time in the movie where Howl turns the door dial black to travel to an absolutely hellish warscape? You know where that same dial takes him in the book? The Real World Country Of Wales

it’s the way annabeth never even suspected percy to deceive her with the sword and pull a trick to save her because she’s been fighting mostly alone at camp since she was seven and has never had such a fiercely loyal friend who would have her back instead of expecting her to be the strong problem-solver ready to take all the blows no matter what. like forget that percy put her safety over his own, but doing so while poisoned and tired and on a super important quest?? that’s blasphemy to annabeth and yet percy did just that. i’m not surprised annabeth hugs him in the preview because this seals their bond forever. both were ready to sacrifice themselves for the other (and grover, never forget grover) and that fundamentally changes dynamics.

okay because Medusa saying to Annabeth that she wasn’t ‘like’ her, she //is// her is so important to me and its because in the NEXT EPISODE Annabeth says that athena wont help them because she “embarrassed” her by sending medusa’s head to olympus, when in fact that was Percy who did it, the son of poseidon. WHEN POSEIDON IS THE ONE WHO GOT MEDUSA PUNISHED TOO. they both embarrassed athena and were put to punishment for that, when in fact neither occurrence was their fault it was poseidon/Percy.

THE DIFFERENCE IS that Medusa didn’t have Percy. when Percy realized what he did, and when Annabeth was about to sacrifice her life for his, he said HELL NO and sacrificed himself instead. Saving Annabeth and also taking blame for her punishment. THE PARALLELS ARE KILLING ME

So do people realize that we aren't building new train tracks when we expand the amteak network, I have multiple times seen people say that we shouldn't expand the network because it would destroy protected lands, which would be a fair criticism but Amtrak doesn't build new tracks, we use existing tracks. We are not destroying protected lands, we are using land that has already been clear for a century

Percy's dad claiming him, was actually just a big slap in the face. In Percy's POV not only did he leave his mother, but he's never bothered to see or talk to him even once. Now he finds out he was forbidden to even exist, and is only being claimed to be sent on a dangerous quest to clear his dad's name of something that he didn't do and doesn't give two shits about??? His mom just DIED in front of him and now his deadbeat dad is making him run his personal errands! yeah I'd be pissed too
