4. What is the most dramatic bad thing that happened to them? You mean, apart from being stabbed in the head by her jealous sister/fellow bhaalspawn/whatever the fucked-up family relationship between her and Orin are exactly and getting tadpoled and then repeatedly vivisected by a mad doctor-slash-scientist? Self-inflicted dramatic bad thing was when she won a drinking game against an alcoholic undead and then was very much out of working order for like a day because foul smelling ghost liquor is not good for your health, shockingly enough. Let's go with that. 6. What is their greatest fear?

~~split ends~~ Completely succumbing to the Urge to the point where she has no control left whatsoever over herself and what she's doing and just murders indiscrimitately and mindlessly. Basically, the bad Dark Urge ending where your Urge consumes you? That's Silaestra's worst nightmare. Killing her loved ones because she can't control the urges or is just Bad Like That is a close second.

12. Do they have any self-destructive habits?

She collects them like other people collect pressed flowers. Like, seriously, she has an issue with punishing herself and being reckless and careless with her life. It's not so much that she's a death seeker, she very much wants to life, but she also ... just ... takes unneccesary risks with her own life a lot and seems to seek out painful experiences.

Need some examples?

Allowing a vampire to bite her.

Letting a cleric of Loviatar go ham on her almost-naked back and then refusing to have it healed.

Drinking too much during the tiefling party

Fighting in the frontlines as a sorcerer ...

Drinking suspicious ghost booze (girl, you are so lucky to have proficiency in consitution saving throws ffs)

Generally waving off healing because "I have potions, it's not that bad"

Every encounter with a Thorm in the Shadowcursed lands where she talks them into doing something has a shade of self-destructive recklessness tbh.

Punctuating Dialogue

➸ “This is a sentence.”

➸ “This is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,” she said.

➸ “This,” he said, “is a sentence split by a dialogue tag.”

➸ “This is a sentence,” she said. “This is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.”

➸ “This is a sentence followed by an action.” He stood. “They are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.”

➸ She said, “Use a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.”

➸ “Use a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,” he said.

“Unless there is a question mark?” she asked.

“Or an exclamation point!” he answered. “The dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because it’s not truly the end of the sentence.”

➸ “Periods and commas should be inside closing quotations.”

➸ “Hey!” she shouted, “Sometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.”

However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can also be “outside”!

➸ “Does this apply to question marks too?” he asked.

If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)

➸ “This applies to dashes too. Inside quotations dashes typically express—“

“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.

➸ “You’ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses don’t have a comma after them either…” she said.

➸ “My teacher said, ‘Use single quotation marks when quoting within dialogue.’”

➸ “Use paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,” he said.

“The readers will know it’s someone else speaking.”

➸ “If it’s the same speaker but different paragraph, keep the closing quotation off.

“This shows it’s the same character continuing to speak.”

Retitled my brainrot from 'Mosaic' to 'Mosaic of Broken Chains'. My reasons for going with 'Mosaic' was two-fold:

first, the fic is a strange middle-thingy between a one shot collection and a 'true' longform fic, aka the chapters are semi-standalone but all connected, 'Mosaic' refers here to the smaller semi-standalone but connected chapters forming a bigger whole, a full picture

second, it refers to the whole idea of tiny shards of something broken coming together again, to make something beautiful and whole out of something previously broken or out of something that appeared broken

the Broken Chains part is a reference to "I want to live"

"I want to live" fits both Astarion and an AstarionxDurge romance so beautifully. And I like to imagine it as a duet between Astarion and Silaestra

She’d wanted to slaughter that young cleric so badly … She even might have done it, if that True Soul had not shown up to try and kidnap Isobel … “Why, the greatest crime of them all!”, Sceleritas replied gleefully, and all to eagerly, “nothing at all!” “No.” She wouldn’t. Because she wanted it so badly, she wouldn’t. Jaheira and her allies were valuable allies. If Isobel died, the harpers would die as well. It’d be beyond senseless to get them all killed. And there were children here too. Do it! Kill her! Claim your prize! Cut her wide open! Paint the Last Light with her blood! And what would happen then? If she gave in, what would become of her? How much of her would remain?
