I feel like you must have answered this before but I can't find it anywhere so I'll just ask: What's the Angaran greeting, "Stars and skies", in Shelesh? They say it all the time but I can't find it in Shelesh anywhere.......
"Neranj tev haavolanj!"
At least as far as my own work goes! I don't think it's used as a greeting so much as an exclamation though.
I've also got "Sleep with the stars" -- Sleefim'do tev neranj, and "****ing stars!" -- Skkutja neranj! and "Black star!" -- Pivos nera! as curses. There are a few more intimate phrases that I've used stars for as well...😁

🙈 And another destination poster inspired by the original Mass Effect, exposing those silly Eletania pyjaks and their grubby little hands! Once again commissioned by the delightful @swaps55, who I thank from the bottom of my heart.

Angaran Word of the Day
okoli, oko - n - hello, hi; a casual greeting. Original meaning us unknown, but related to ohmor, to speak.
ishar, isha, isham, ishat - v - goodbye, farewell, to part ways.
"Isha, Ryder. Sleefim'do tev neranj."
"Farewell, Ryder. Sleep with the stars."
[Farewell, Ryder. (You) will sleep+command with the stars.]
'Sleep with the stars' is a traditional angaran saying similar to 'Sweet Dreams.' The fact that it's phrased as a command may seem strange, but it comes from the fact that those saying it would be caring, protective family members. They have an active interest in your wellbeing, even while asleep! We often do the same when we tell someone to 'Drive safe!' or 'Sleep well.'

I am not sure if I have asked before, but could I use the content you created in my works as well? Will give credit! :)
Of course, that's what we're here for! Feel free to ask for translations or details on anything, and I'll do my best to wheedle it out of Torvar, Jaal, Feladyr, and Kiiran.

Linking back here or to the AEP on AO3 is perfect. We'll happily reblog the works here too, if you tag or msg us. @captainjaalamadarav

Hi! I'm writing my fic "The Shape of Stardust" where Ryder is a mute character who communicates through sign language. What would the angara call that? I'm thinking like hand-speak or something like hand-songs but I have no clue how to translate that into Shelesh. Help? Loving the content you've got here!
Lovely topic! I didn't have a word created quite for this, so here you go with a shiny new one. I imagine there would be some challenges of translation between human hands and angaran hands too...
miynjyn - n, adj - hand or sign language
jy, jyn - n - hand or foot, hands or feet; used for any grasping appendage
miyn, miynj - n - word, words
miysara - n - language

hey. I don't have access to the game anymore but I'm writing an AU story that follows the game plot and thus partially takes place on Aya, and I can't remember the name of the hostels the Angara keep, like on Voeld, for travelers, and I couldn't find it anywhere in your posts. Do you recall the Shelesh word for hostel?
Hi! There isn't an in game name that I recall. How about this one?
vrekavreta - n, adj - home away from home, hostel, guest room or house, hotel, temporary lodgings; literally: home away home
vreta - n, adj - home, house, dwelling

Toh‘vy oogalyom?!
Are you pregnant?! [You+question carrying eggs?!]
The image shows a few rough examples of what angaran eggs might look like, based on various people in Mass Effect Andromeda. Oogomji (eggs) are colorful ovals with a thin, flexible, rubbery shell. Their shell is mottled with the same color and patterns as the angara producing the eggs.
It’s been a joy and a challenge to create sensible and interesting words surrounding angaran reproduction and sex.
oogalyom - adj -  carrying eggs during reproduction, the equivalent of pregnancy for angara; ovigerous

What are common greetings and phrases in selesh? (such as; hello, how are you, nice to meet you, goodbye, etc.)
Hello Anon! I've posted most of these elsewhere but here they are again! Some are canon, many are added.
The basic hello/goodbye would be: Paavoa, Isha (Paavoa is actually an idiom meaning “come know joy/light”, with the longer historical phrase being “knowing you are here brings my heart joy/light”)
A more general 'nice to meet you' phrase might be: Joh voyi pasgoh! [I am happy + person I have met!] or if you want to emphasize that the person is still a stranger, but being greeted: Joh voyi gova.
A polite How are you? in the same type of situation would be: Ille'vy goh? or Ille'vy gara? Goh/gara is the best general pronoun, but there are others if the relationship is clearer: toh is for a peer, mohnin would be more respectful for an elder, poh for a child/younger person. It's all agender.
...Incoming deluge of additional words and phrases...
An idiom that can mean a lot of things but is generally "you're welcome" is just: Yevoll
This one's a canon phrase, from Techiix: Kedi gossa, di javegara kepasgom. [There are no strangers, only unmet friends.]
Tabas tiyrrna illeh. - This feels/is crazy.
Skeelu… tabas taosa. - This is disgusting…I love it.
Eddo, fiki tabas. - Thanks, I hate it. [Thanks hate this.]
Joh jinni - I’ve got this. [I am covering [this]]
by, 'vy - n, adv - question, ask, query; adv affixed to a conjugated verb
byr; by, byt bym - v - to ask, to question
bylas - n, adv - an entreaty or request, something you are asking another to do
bylasear'vy; bylase'vy, bylaset'vy, bylasem'vy - v - to entreat or request; please do this
eddor - v - to appreciate, give thanks, show gratitude
eddora - n, adj - gratitude, thankfulness, appreciation
Eddo hanti bareen - I am thankful for family
Eddo hanti jove javegara, tev. - I am thankful for my friends, too.
ishar, isha, isham, ishat - v - goodbye, to part ways.
isharay - goodbye into the blackest night, poetic. It lends its name to an angaran weapon.
okoli, oko - hello, hi; a casual greeting
paavoa - welcome, a common angaran greeting; “come know joy”, with the longer historical phrase of “knowing you are here brings my heart joy”
Yevoll - idiom - it's good, brings joy, it carries a joyful smile; an equivalent for you're welcome or de nada

Hey there, I'm currently writing a fanfic about ME:A and while researching I kinda stumbled over your tumblr. And I'm so, so happy that I found this project about the angaren culture, biologie and language - especially cuz of the language. I'm triying to integrate some Shelesh in my story and your post really help a lot. At the moment I'm struggeling to find a word for the exiles (outcast, to cast out, displaced, expelled, s.o.) on Kadara. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks a lot.
Ooo, sounds wonderful! Glad to have you along for the ride. Exiles hmm, let's see what I have. The simplest thing might be to use vesegara - the term that the Roekaar use for all of the the Milky Way people. It's likely a repurposing of an existing Shelesh word. I have a general word for traitor too though! @uratowel
Vesegara - n, adj - uprooted people, or exiles, a derogatory term used by the Roekaar for individuals from the Milky Way.
shayfasan - n, adj - traitor, betrayer; lit. bloody heart

Angaran Biology and Culture
The angara are a fascinating race. However, our meeting with them takes place so quickly and during such a complex series of events that there would have been a lot of confusion and missing information… Where were we? Right. This is an attempt to straighten out and add to our knowledge of the angara, particularly in regards to their biology.
