The Cursed Dnd Character I Built With my DM
Soooooo my dm(who is also my s/o) and I made a really cured dnd character using the April Fools subclasses. She's a gestalt character, so we went with Way of the Cheesy Soul Monk and Oath of Soup Paladin. This is one of the single most cursed characters I've ever made so I figured I'd tell y'all her abilities.
Paladin Ability:
Live by the Soup: allows the player to summon soup equal to 10x class level in gallons that spreads over you and your allies, lasts minutes equal to double survival modifier, and for every round, you are within the soup you are 5d10 plus survival modifier
Die by the Soup: you can summon another amount of soup equal to 10 x class level in gallons; this soup floats behind you. It has the same time duration as “Life by the Soup”. You can choose to make a melee or ranged attack against your opponent, on a hit, the opponent takes 2d10 + survival modifier and must make a constitution equalling 10 + proficiency modifier and survival modifier or they are knocked prone and take an additional 2d10 damage (fire) that ignores resistances and immuniies. This effect stacks.
Monk Ability:
Mixed Bag: Your unarmed strikes do the damage type of your choice, and your martial arts die is increased by 2.
Well Aged: Ability resets every day. You can spend a bonus action, action, or reaction to give yourself an “age” counter. For every “age counter” you have you gain a +1 in every stat, an additional 5 temporary hp, and an additional 10ft of movement; you also for every 2 “age counters” get a +1 to AC. You can spend “age counters” to do one of five things: guarantee your next attack will be a crit, increase the potency of your crit (from x2 to x4), guarantee yourself to hit, increase damage an amount equal to double the “age counters” that you have, spend 1 “age counter” to regain 2 ki (you can also spend 1 ki point to get one “age counter”)
Combo Ability:
Onslaught/Haven of Beer Cheese: has a different effect when affecting enemies or allies. When affecting enemies, all enemies within 120ft of you have disadvantage. When it comes to allies, for every round within 15 ft of you they gain an “age counter”.
Parmesan’s Wrath: You can spend either 4 “age counters” or 4 ki pts; for the next minute all numeric effects (besides cost) are doubled.
Roquefort Smite: may use 2 ki points or 2 “age counters” to add the Roquefort smite to an attack, this attack ignores all immunities and resistances, as well as dealing d10s equal to the number of “age counters” to the target (damage type is users choice), if this attack kills the target gain temporary hp equal to the damage dealt.
Good soups judgment, the final bowl: per age counter spent on this ability all enemies in a 10xthe number of age counters spent radius (feet) take 50xthe number of age counters spent in damage that ignores all immunities and resistances instead treating them as having weakness to the damage (fire)
Use this how you wish

So it turns out classes are hard. I might get that milestone celebration finished at some point eventually.
Anyway, here's the Siren race. Because sea elves and water genasi sometimes don't quite scratch that itch. Maybe you want to play up the charming seductress, drawing men in like an angler fish. Or maybe you just want to be a watery tart tossing swords at people.

Item Idea
The Helm of Adaptation is a step up from the more common Necklace of Adaptation. It shapes itself to fit any wearer's head, and its glassteel visor covers the eyes and mouth. The Helm allows its wearer to breathe freely in any environment, but it also gives a Freedom Of Movement effect once per day. Finally, should the wearer possess a breath weapon, the Helm of Adaptation will convert its energy to a type that will function in the surrounding environment - fire is less effective underwater, for example, so it could become a burst that changes the ocean nearby into acid.
It's no secret that these items were made for great battles between dragonkind. A Helm might allow a strong enough wyrm to reach the space between worlds and breathe lines of laser beams at invading mind flayer ships!

Rpg character idea:
Babysitter warlock.
The warlock has an immature patron (a baby, pick what kind of baby from the patron type list). The warlock grows in power as the patron grows. The pact is that the warlock just has to look after the baby until it is fully mature. If the baby is hurt, or upset, the warlock either loses its abilities, or they just go bonkers.

Dumb NPC ideas to use when your players decide to explore that town you didn't prepare anything for
A scholar that is clearly lost, however you're not sure how he is someone important at all. It even looks like he's glad that he didn't manage to arrive at the event on time.
An old lady (of a race that has a long lifespan), that knows a little way to much about the party's adventure... She doesn't spends much time talking about it though, do you want to buy her pots?
A kid. Just a kid. Make them annoying.
A knight that is very proud about their job and duty, but they just want their shift to end so they can go home to their wife.
A merchant that has a cart in the middle of the fair, however everytime the party goes to another shop or stand he pops up from behind the counter. Turns out the town doesn't receive many merchants so he has to supply all of their needs. He's stressed.
A teen dragon that discovered how to transform into a human, problem is they definitely look 30 but they still are just a teenager, and a moody one.
A shop owner that fucking hates commerce. She's in it because of her family, so she tries to sell the goodies pratically for free and she really wants you to take all of her items. The catch? It's a feather shop. Not magic feathers, not pens, just normal feathers. Probably from a bird that died that morning.
A janitor from a library or big shop that is just too aware of everything. Like, they point out the players class or race without barely batting an eye. They comment on how they "had never seen a chaotic good one in real life". And indirectly disses the players choices they made 2 sessions ago? (Basically a character for the dm to rant a little while not completely breaking the 4th wall)
A woman in her mid-40s (or the equivalent) that is just really excited to meet the party? Her dream was to be an adventurer when she was little so she is definitely asking some weird questions.
A blacksmith that makes weapons purely for the aesthetic. He really doesn't care if it's functional or not, he's just doing cause it looks cool.
A bard that got kicked out of their band or caravan. At first you don't know why but after their 3rd performance of a one-person musical you get it. He wants to stick with the party though. Good luck.
A doggie!! It's cute!! And fluffy!! And it talks!! And it talks? A DOG THAT TALKS!!!!
The most ripped person the party has ever met, they have tons of skulls of big animals on their shoulder. They polish them. They hang them on a wall and start to take notes. They are an archeologist.
A magician that is really not magic at all, he's just so good at card tricks that the town thinks he's a sorcerer. He's freaking out.
A girl that is immune to all kinds of poison, however that is making a little bit hard for her to pursue her cooking career. Apparently poison ivy is not a good seasoning for most people.
An artist that is just really calm and friendly but everyone's afraid of them. The party has no idea why.

✨New item!✨ Twin Amulets of Arcane Affinity  Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement by a spellcaster)
These matching amulets resonate with a harmonious frequency when in each other’s proximity. In order to attune to an amulet, you must do so simultaneously with another attuner. While you are both attuned, when the other amulet is within 30 feet of you, you gain a +1 bonus to spell attack rolls and to the saving throw DCs of your spells. Additionally, when you cast a spell that affects multiple creatures, you can choose to exclude the other amulet wearer from the effect. As an action, you can touch the other amulet wearer and expend 1 spell slot of 3rd level or lower. The other wearer regains an expended spell slot of an equivalent level. If the other amulet wearer is within 30 feet of you and is reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can use your reaction to expend 1 spell slot of 5th or higher to drop them to 1 hit point instead of 0. You can use this reaction once per long rest.
“The twin mages Jiménez and Jerónimo were always seen together. Twas rumored they had never been in separate rooms, for fear of what might happen if one could not see the other. As you can imagine, their eccentric behavior caused much stir in the arcane community. Eventually, word of the inseparable pair reached the king, and he summoned them to court. To sate his morbid curiosity, the king had the brothers forcibly separated into two lead-lined chambers for 1 whole minute. They solemnly shared one last glance before the rooms were sealed. At first, their screams caused uproarious laughter in the court. But as the time pressed on, and their screams fell silent, so too did the courtiers. When the doors were opened, both brothers lay dead. No mortal wounds were discernible. The only items of note on their bodies were these matching amulets of arcane affinity, a great unsolved mystery. And now their priceless jewelry can be yours! I’ll accept bids starting at 500 gold! Do I hear 500 gold for the dead twins’ necklaces!” - 🖌🎨 Like our work? I’m usually not one for spell components, they’re a somewhat stale addition to games that really only makes me waste time asking for shopping trips anytime i enter a town.
That said if you’re creative with it there are ways to incorporate spell components into your world building, or even storyline.
What would it mean for a dnd world if only one single country has a diamond mine and reliable export? What would happen if they suddenly stopped exporting? Prices would skyrocket, robberies and thieving would increase. People might do anything to get another chance at casting revivify on a fallen friend. Adventurers might gather together to seek out dragons lairs just for a chance at finding a diamond.
What would it mean if the countries went to war? How would knowing that your enemy has access to seemingly infinite revival affect morale? Society at large?

For you and a friend: One plays a Kenku, the other plays almost any other race, the Kenku rarely talks and instead uses sign language to communicate and the second character interprets it. The second character is an absolute liar.
