No worries, and thanks! Didn't read it as hostile, just concerned, hope I didn't come off as hostile either.

Hi, have some proof of life, I guess? Long story short, was out of creative juices for a while but I've got some back now. I won't write up a big description this time around because I'm actually still kinda pumped at the fact that I can still make homebrews, so I'm gonna channel that energy into making homebrews lol. Have a good one, internet wayfarer 07

Hey, how've you been? Have you been eating right? I've been super busy with irl stuff, you know how it is. Anyways, have this super late April Fool's joke class for Fabula Ultima (late only here, dropped this one on the Rooster Games discord and FabUlt subreddit and it was a certified HIT, you just had to be there man /hj)
Anyways, don't expect anything anytime soon; got some irl stuff still going on and a pretty ambitious homebrew project in the works, might just drop FabUlt items here and there if I feel like it.
Here's the original google doc, if you wanna leave suggestions and such: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MPLasgPJvXuZuDL-9awpi_ayptUYTuzz6a2dIrwbFt8/edit?usp=sharing
Peace out, internet sailor.

Hey, I get the concern. I credit nearly all (some things I assume are so commonplace I don't need to credit them, some are too difficult to find sources for) the art I use; for this specific class, it's at the end of the Heroic Skills, the little plaintext blurb that says Art Credit with an underlined link that should work in the GMBinder version.

Hey, so, it's been a bit since I posted anything. Anyways, have some FabUlt stat blocks for some MonHun monsters that have a bit of magic/spellcasting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Had MonHun on the mind ever since I got World + Iceborne on a sale. Planning on making more of these, but not gonna post all of them since my players might see.
See you when I see you, internet sailor o' mine.

New video on the basics of mixing environments and encounters. Ngl, this is the prototype, a testing ground for a new series. The back/forth will be a lot more seamless in future version, I've figured something out, as well as a lot of fun new techniques from working on this! When I next bring this format back, it'll be the return of my My old monster lore/abitilites/design/homebrew vidoes, mashed with my encounter making videos. This time is more of a testbed of format. and honestly? most fun I've had making a video in a while. I forgot how much I LOVE all the little editing stuff, moving characters around!

Well guys! I've only gone and bloody done it! Steamboat Willie, the now public domain short, as a D&D campaign!
This is a small one-shot adventure, but it also includes a cartoon race and statblocks for Mickey, Minnie and Peg Leg Pete.
The plot revolves around Mickey being charmed by Minnie the Siren into torturing the animals aboard the ship, and being up to the players to stop them.
The module is 0.99 dollars on DMsGuild, or you can join my Patreon to also see it.
Please tell me if anyone actually plays this, I want to know how silly things get.

Fantasy Guide to Building A Culture
Tumblr media
Culture is defined by a collection of morals, ethics, traditions, customs and behaviours shared by a group of people.
Hierarchy and Social Structures
Tumblr media
Within every culture, there is a hierarchy. Hierarchies are an important part of any culture, usually do ingrained that one within the culture wouldn't even question it. Hierarchy can be established either by age, gender or wealth and could even determine roles within their society. Sometimes hierarchy can may be oppressive and rigid whilst other times, ranks can intermingle without trouble. You should consider how these different ranks interact with one another and whether there are any special gestures or acts of deference one must pay to those higher than them. For example, the Khasi people of Meghalaya (Northern India), are strictly matriarchal. Women run the households, inheritance runs through the female line, and the men of the culture typically defer to their mothers and wives. Here are a few questions to consider:
How is a leader determined within the culture as a whole and the family unit?
Is the culture matriarchal? Patriarchal? Or does gender even matter?
How would one recognise the different ranks?
How would one act around somebody higher ranking? How would somebody he expected to act around somebody lower ranking?
Can one move socially? If not, why? If so, how?
Traditions and Customs
Tumblr media
Traditions are a staple in any culture. These can be gestures or living life a certain way or to the way a certain person should look. Traditions are a personal detail to culture, they are what make it important. Tradition can dictate how one should keep their home, run their family, take care of their appearance, act in public and even determine relationship. Tradition can also be a double edged sword. Traditions can also be restrictive and allow a culture to push away a former member if they do not adhere to them, eg Traditional expectations of chastity led to thousands of Irish women being imprisoned at the Magdelene Laundries. Customs could be anything from how one treats another, to how they greet someone.
How important is tradition?
What are some rituals your culture undertakes?
What are some traditional values in your world? Does it effect daily life?
Are there any traditions that determine one's status?
Values and Opinions
Tumblr media
Values and Opinions are the bread and butter of any culture. This is the way your culture sees the world and how they approach different life hurdles. These may differ with other cultures and be considered odd to outsiders, what one culture may value another may not and what opinion another holds, one may not. There will be historical and traditional reasons to why these values and opinions are held. Cultures usually have a paragon to which they hold their members to, a list of characteristics that they expect one to if not adhere to then aspire to. The Yoruba people value honesty, hard work, courage and integrity. Here are some questions to consider?
How important are these ethics and core values? Could somebody be ostracised for not living up to them?
What are some morals that clash with other cultures?
What does your culture precieved to be right? Or wrong?
What are some opinions that are considered to be taboo in your culture? Why?
Dress Code
Tumblr media
For many cultures, the way somebody dresses can be important. History and ethics can effect how one is meant to be dressed such as an expectation of chastity, can impose strict modesty. While other cultures, put more importance on details, the different sorts of clothes worn and when or what colour one might wear. The Palestinian people (من النهر إلى البحر ، قد يكونون أحرارا) denoted different family ties, marriage status and wealth by the embroidery and detailing on their thoub.
Are there traditional clothes for your world? Are they something somebody wears on a daily basis or just on occasion?
Are there any rules around what people can wear?
What would be considered formal dress? Casual dress?
What would happen if somebody wore the wrong clothes to an event?
Language
Tumblr media
Language can also be ingrained as part of a Culture. It can be a specific way one speaks or a an entirely different language. For example, in the Southern States of America, one can engage in a sort of double talk, saying something that sounds sweet whilst delivering something pointed. Bless their heart. I have a post on creating your own language here.
Arts, Music and Craft
Tumblr media
Many cultures are known for different styles of dance, their artwork and crafts. Art is a great part of culture, a way for people to express themselves and their culture in art form. Dance can be an integral part of culture, such as céilí dance in Ireland or the Polka in the Czech Republic. Handicrafts could also be important in culture, such as knitting in Scottish culture and Hebron glass in Palestine. Music is also close to culture, from traditional kinds of singing such as the White Voice in Ukraine and the playing of certain instruments such as the mvet.
Food and Diet
Tumblr media
The way a culture prepares or intakes or treats certain foods are important to a culture. In some cultures, there is a diet yo adhere to, certain foods are completely banned. With Jewish culture, pork is prohibited along with fish such as sturgeon, along with shellfish and certain fowl. Meat must also be prepared in a certain way and animal byproducts such as dairy, must never be created or even eaten around this meat. This is known as kosher. The way one consumes food is also important to culture. In some cultures, only certain people may eat together. Some cultures place important on how food is eaten. In Nigerian culture, the oldest guests are served first usually the men before the women. In Japanese culture, one must say 'itadakimasu' (I recieve) before eating. Culture may also include fasting, periods of time one doesn't intake food for a specific reason.
What are some traditional dishes in your world?
What would be a basic diet for the common man?
What's considered a delicacy?
Is there a societal difference in diet? What are the factors that effect diet between classes?
Is there any influence from other cuisines? If not, why not? If so, to what extent?
What would a typical breakfast contain?
What meals are served during the day?
What's considered a comfort food or drink?
Are there any restrictions on who can eat what or when?
Are there any banned foods?
What stance does your world take on alcohol? Is it legal? Can anybody consume it?
Are there any dining customs? Are traditions?
Is there a difference in formal meals or casual meals? If so, what's involved?
Are there any gestures or actions unacceptable at the dinner table?
How are guests treated at meals? If they are given deference, how so?

Wacky idea. Steamboat Willie is now public domain.
So I'll make an entire campaign based on it.
I'm talking NPCs, statblocks, and maybe even a mouse race.
Then I'll publish it on DMsGuild and charge $0.99 for it.
At that price it might as well be PWYW, but I wanna have the ultimate middle finger against Disney.

A Project I've been working on for a while now, a guide to creating custom spells for D&D In-Game!
It has things such as recommended time for research and development, possible cost of materials, and of course rules for all kinds of effects for your spells.
And best of all, its free for everyone up on DMs Guild!
If you like things like these, I have a patreon! You can support me over there, and every cent gives me motivation to continue doing this. Thank you very much :)

Been working on this as a Session Zero Template for Fabula Ultima games.
The background changes to show prospective players the types of worlds they can play.
The icons when double clicked shows the different class images and their associated skills and masteries as well.
I've also finished doing the Press Start Tutorial Scene and the Tutorial Script so I might do the Tech Demo for that soon (i.e. Probably January).
Also started translating/making notes on the Bravely Default Fabula Ultima Demo and the Pokemon Legends version as well into english. - The Legends I think requires some work to give it some pisazz as it follows the first Noble Lord mission but is kind of empty in terms of references and knowledge of the core gameplay loop of Legends. - Bravely default I'll have to watch a playthrough I think if I were to start scripting that as I know nothing xD I might just play that one straight as I don't know anything about the sequel.

Reblogging to add my two cents to the discussion vis-a-vis non-combat checks: I've GMed a bit using Fabula Ultima now and IMO mixing and matching 2 of the 4 Attributes together for any kind of check is still pretty good.
I think the broad nature of the Attributes lends itself well to catering to creative problem solving since you aren't tethered to set kinds of skills (usually) tied to set Attributes/Ability Scores, but instead, you can work with your GM or player to set Checks that use the Attributes you/they feel fitting for the approach. The number of combinations may be limited, but the things players can do out of combat are still only restricted to the setting and their creativity, with actions being arguably easier to adjudicate since you only have to keep track of 4 Attributes instead of over, like, a dozen skills or something.
(Like, also, just my personal opinion coming from DMing D&D 5e for a while before switching to Fabula Ultima, it feels awkward asking for a Strength (Intimidation) or (Persuasion) check and having to explain that that's a legit variant rule in 5e and not a homebrew rule to someone who doesn't know versus just saying "Make a Might + Willpower Check".)
As for missing a lot, the math should be in favor of players succeeding even without bonuses; the normal, middle-of-the-road difficulty level is 10, which is about the average of 1d8 + 1d10, which is sorta the ideal Attribute spread you would want in a Check. Even for non-ideal Attribute combinations, like d6 + d10 or 2d8 (both averaging at 9), the chances that you would succeed on a check are still not that bad, especially if you consider rerolls or bonuses from invoking traits, bonuses from making it a group check, or situational bonuses the GM can give because the approach was fun, cool, and/or creative. Personally? My players usually roll hot and use the Attributes they're good at, so they succeed more often than not. Might not be the case for everybody, though, but still. The math. It checks out.
All this to say that Fabula Ultima is a great system, you should give it a try, and if the Attribute Check system is giving you doubts, know that it works well in practice (source: trust me, bro).
In Fabula Ultima, you have 4 stats: Might, Dexterity, Willpower and Insight. For each of those 4 stats you have a die, from a d6 to a d12. Every check in the system is done by rolling a combination of two stats (or the same stat twice), adding the results, potentially adding a static modifier and checking if you meet a target.
I haven't played much FU yet, so take this with a grain of salt but while I am not quite sure how I feel about this system for checks yet since it is fairly limiting for non-combat checks and has incredibly high variance that leads to a lot of missing, I absolutely adore how it interacts with the rules for damage calculation.
Every weapon and every damaging spell uses the High Roll, i.e. the highest of your two dice for the check, as the basis for damage. For example, a dagger deals High Roll + 4 physical damage. The Ventus spell deals High Roll + 15 air damage.
There are multiple things that make this amazing imo: Firstly, it saves a lot of time because you do your damage roll and your to hit roll at once, but without taking away the fun of rolling for damage. Also, since your High Roll is probably going to be a 5 at the very least because otherwise you'd probably miss and a 12 at most (but more likely a 10 at most because you can only get a d12 in a stat starting at level 20), it keeps the variance of the damage roll relatively low without taking away the fun of high numbers. And as a result of this relatively similar number being included, you can have rules that take this number out, such as two-weapon fighting or a lot of free attacks, while knowing that it's going to be about equally impactful for all weapons.

Just dropping in midday to raise a white flag and admit defeat: I'm not gonna be able to finish the october monster challenge I startrd because of irl stuff and my own creative juices running dry. It was fun getting to this point and I might do so again next year, but this is unfortunately the end of my spoopy month monster marathon. Back to (ir)regularly scheduled programming, folks.

Day 14 - Kelpies! Some of these monsters on this prompt list really make me scratch my head when I think about what species they are, Fabula Ultima-wise. Settled on demon since kelpies seem to be more cautionary tales in the original folklore about trusting weird horses or staying around dangerous lakes or bogs.
As for mechanics, this one's kinda light on offensive options; the tradeoff being that it has some weird interactions with items and body parts that it can use to its advantage, especially near bodies of water.
Surprisingly still going strong, hope you are too internet stranger. Adios, see you when I see you.
