𝙸𝚃'𝚂  𝙰  𝙻𝙸𝚃𝚃𝙻𝙴  𝙰𝙵𝚃𝙴𝚁 ten  a.m.  when  he  drags  himself  towards  the  laundry  room.  granted,  there  are  at  least  seventy  other  things  he’d  rather  be  doing  at  the  moment,  but  jason  knows  that  getting  laundry  done  at  the  start  of  the  day  will  save  him  a  lot  of  time  and  prevent  him  from  getting  pulled  into possible  conflicts  with  the  other  residents.  the  majority  of  it  has  already  been  sorted  and  he’s  about  to  dump  the  basket  filled  with  shirts  and  hoodies  into  one  of  the  machines  when  he  notices  movement  next  to  him.  when  he  looks  up,  something  akin  to  surprise  and  confusion  passes  over  his  features  when  he  half  recognizes  the  person  using  the  machine  to  his  left.  ‘     superman’s  cousin  ?    ’   he  says,  because  apparently  that’s  the  first  thing  that  tumbles  from  his  lips.    /  @blondeinblue​

   AN EARLY RISER — the perks of one who sleeps so little, she manages to beat the saturday crowd to the machines. by the time the "ding" of laundry room door sounds, freshly cleaned clothes are in the dryers tumbling. meanwhile, golden strands spill over hoodie-clad shoulder, and one cheek rests pressed into propped up hand. the steel maiden sits at the small table in loud room, scrawling away in a notebook, FOCUSED.    but trance is broken and head flicks around. cerulean orbs peer at the newcomer, his words reverberating in hypersensitive ears. HOW DOES HE KNOW? she can't quite place it, but something about this man's face seems familiar. there's the distant memory of a boy, captured in photos that line gothic manor's walls — even much older, his face is unmistakable. 

   ❛ jason? ❜   the name slips out, confusion driving brow upward. was this the elusive son she had yet to meet? kara shakes her head, expression suddenly changing — feigning ignorance.   ❛ whaaaat? superman's cousin? pfft, i wish! really though, that's crazy. but you! you’re jason! bruce wayne's kid! ❜

FUN?!– when was there time for fun? The Boy Wonder gawked as he was pulled in the opposite direction, squeaking as he desperately reached for his laptop. There were many algorithms he hadn’t tried yet, and the case wasn’t going to solve itself, was it? Kara’s timing couldn’t get any worse. 

         ❝ C-Computer; initiate genetic algorithm ‘Lang’. ❞ he commanded, before he was too far away from it. The faint sound of his laptop beginning its command was heard at the end of the hallway, though he couldn’t hear the last bit of it.  ❝ I already ate, Kara. This case is extremely important. Can’t bowling wait until tomorrow or something….? ❞

   ❛ you already ate? ❜   a self-righteous scoff as cobalt hues ROLL. when? she hadn't seen a single morsel since arriving — though boredom led the kryptonian to zone out, to stare at that giant penny AGAIN. either way, she doesn't slow, only quickening her step and tugging the robin along with a little more aggression. she beams, no escape.   ❛ even if you have eaten, i want fries and the bowling alley has fries! ❜    and when was the last time they actually grabbed food together or hung out beyond the cape and mask? she loved alfred's cooking as much as the next, but the young alien would NEVER get enough of the terran experience.   ❛ pleeease tim — that algorithm is going to take a while to run, right? what are you going to do, stare at a blinking cursor for two hours? ❜

so, SO, i’m afraid i need to go on a little semi-hiatus for the next 6 weeks or so (so until april, i hope). this is how much time i’ve been given to finish all my research and thesis before i have to start editing and prepping for my defense. basically it’s crunch time and i need to prioritize that stuff first. i’ll still be here, probably lurking, but my activity will probably be inconsistent and i’m going to pick and choose what i reply to when i do get a little down time to write. anyway, i’m not disappearing, I PROMISE! i just need to be real with myself and understand it’s time to focus now.

because @12thlevel and i were talking about it, i just want to highlight one of my favorite things about kara, which i think was summed up incredibly well in the span of a small story arc in supergirl #60-64. AT FIRST, she didn’t want the complications and difficulties that came with being a hero. at 15, when she arrived on earth, it was all about fun and games, but both pre-crisis and post-crisis kara are shown to have this amazing character development throughout their storylines that show a very human and relatable growth as she enters adulthood. while these two pages are only a snippet of some of that growth, and there are certainly more examples of this, this particular interaction between kara and lois is a favorite for sure. first believing she can’t match up to superman, then realizing she doesn’t have to, kara accepts indirectly her role as a protector of earth and the innocent, having matured from her selfish teen years into a selfless leader. kara realizes she just has to do her best to do what needs to be done when the time comes, should superman ever fall or should she need to step up and take on the role of superwoman, no longer supergirl. anyway, that’s all. i could rant about this for a LONG time but i will save you guys from that.
