Rant about Splatoon’s fan base and culture

With Suffer No Fools’ release, people are talking about Shiver’s vocals and how they sound “weird” or just plain bad. I’m so tired of this community seeing non-western cultures represented in this game and immediately jumping on them for being “strange” just because they don’t understand it or have never heard it before. This isn’t the first time this has happened with Shiver either. Back when she did her Kakegoe at a concert a while back, everyone jumped to making dog jokes about how it sounds like she’s “barking”. Shiver isn’t even the only idol this has happened to. Both Frye and Pearl have been constantly made fun of for their large foreheads simply because it doesn’t fit with the western beauty standard. Frye especially has been a target because not only is she asian and takes inspiration from Indian culture in her design and music, but she’s also black. And people see this and think it’s suddenly okay to make jokes about their appearances, voices, mannerisms, etc. I’m so tired of the people in this community thinking different cultures are weird unless they’re able to fetishize them somehow. Please open your minds for ONCE to the idea that not everyone is exactly like you. The willful ignorance from some people in the community is abhorrent and awful to see.
