We had the pleasure of interviewing maryjo over Zoom video! A 21-year-old singer/songwriter hailing from Cleveland, maryjo has the kind of unforgettable voice made for heart-melting piano ballads. But while her songs show a phenomenal vocal command—often drifting from full-throated belting to a gorgeously fragile delivery inflected with cracks—it took years for the Knoxville-born artist to overcome her fear of singing in front of others. “My family’s very musical and singing came to me really naturally, but for some reason I became super-private about it after we moved to Cleveland when I was eight,” says maryjo, who also started writing songs as a little girl and took up piano in fourth grade. As she got older, she worked through her shyness by sharing videos on social media, steadily amassing a devoted following that now includes over 1.3 million followers on TikTok. After bringing her powerhouse vocals to the stage on season 19 of “American Idol,” maryjo landed a deal with Atlantic Records and set to work on her debut single, “Love Fools”: a stripped-back but spellbinding ballad featuring the soul-stirring piano work of two-time Academy of Country Music Award-winner Gordon Mote. With more new music on the way, maryjo arrived at the breathtaking emotion of “Love Fools” by staying true to her instincts. “When I first went into sessions, the sound we were coming up with was very much like cookie-cutter pop,” she recalls, naming Elvis Presley and Julia Michaels among her main inspirations. “Finally I had to stop and say, ‘This isn’t what I’m supposed to be doing.’ I took a step back and asked myself why I was trying for something that didn’t feel right, and because of that we honed in on a sound that feels like me: something I can put so much emotion into when I’m singing, so that I can give the audience something real to connect to.” We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing Jordan Armstrong over Zoom video! Coastal country singer/songwriter Jordan Armstrong has released her latest single, “Convenience Store” via Zodhiac Records. Produced by Henry Brill (Old Sea Brigade, Lissie), the country pop anthem speaks to the relatable pain of past relationships fizzling out due to the inconvenience of distance. Jordan’s raw yet polished declaration evokes undeniable emotion with strength, power and grace wrapped up in a pop melody. “I was diagnosed with Epilepsy in April of 2022, and something that comes along with seizures is losing your license for a period of time. Every morning as I walked to work I passed this same convenience store that had just enough beer and could get you what you needed in a pinch. It really stuck with me, this idea of convenience and how it translates to our romantic lives. At the time, I was going through a break up that had a lot to do with distance and timing. When I brought the idea of my convenience store to my co-writer Brianna Nelson, the song came together in just two hours. I am so grateful for her and that we were able to articulate this feeling and bring this song to life.” – Jordan Armstrong Blending her musical influences with her one-of-a-kind tone that shines through in her original music, Jordan is a modern day take on the Laurel Canyon, country rock sound that helped shape the 60’s and 70’s, with a 90’s pop/y2k twist. Beyond her years in vocal talent, guitar and range, the South Shore of Massachusetts native turned Nashville transplant has been singing melodies to herself since she discovered the ability to speak. As a recent grad of Berklee College of Music's esteemed Songwriters Program having studied pop music and its innerworkings, her songwriting is authentic and profound. An over-thinker by nature, Jordan’s music tends to delve into her journey of self-discovery. Open to the endless combinations of genres, Jordan keeps her writing world free of boundaries while keeping things honest, believing the best music comes from truths. Her distinct sound and unique tone mixed with her introspective writing abilities makes her a star on the rise to keep on your radar. We want to hear from you! Together with Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Michael Shuman over Zoom video! GRAMMY-nominated musician and multi-instrumentalist Michael Shuman is GLU. The frontman of Mini Mansions and member of Queens of the Stone Age is showing another side of himself with his independent debut EP, MY DEMONS out February 24th. Today’s title track release features Phantogram’s Sarah Barthel and explores how childhood traumas continue to seep into adult life. Emotional explosions emerge in a realm of lo-fi hip-hop with upbeat, poppy moments while the coinciding video turns heads with a steamy, latex-laden Barthel symbolizing the demons that dominate GLU’s thoughts as he raps satirically through a leather ball gag. GLU’s genesis was rooted in honesty, creativity, and the desire not just to exist but to exist deeply, and with no major concentration of genre aside from melding them, he unravels ribbons of rhyme and musicianship that are introspective and engaging. Self-produced and mastered by Dale Becker (Doja Cat, Chris Brown, Khalid), the MY DEMONS EP as a whole is a look into the late nights, solitude, and the existential crisis that come with surviving alone through a pandemic. Taking influence from Depeche Mode, Gorillaz, Twenty One Pilots, Mac Miller, the back and forth of the artist’s soft soundscapes lead way to catchy lyrics touching on relatable subjects of struggle, loss, addiction and trauma. Previous single “Night Shift,” highlights the impending doom we feel, generated by the current state of our world. “For me, ‘MY DEMONS’ was about being on my own terms; having my own momentum,” said Shuman. “This is something that is different because I do come from punk rock, but I’m doing this… so it’s not going to sound like your typical DJ or Hip-Hop producer. I want it to feel fresh, and that’s the most exciting thing for me.” MY DEMONS Track Listing: MY DEMONS ft. We had the pleasure of interviewing Daniel Leggs over Zoom video! Rising alt-pop singer-songwriter-producer Daniel Leggs is celebrating his signing to Overall Recordings/Atlantic Records with today’s release of his long-awaited debut EP, runaway , available now at all DSPs and streaming services. The final installment in a remarkable series of new releases unveiled on the 22nd of each month, runaway collects warm-hearted tracks like the previously unheard “parasite” alongside such fan favorites as “sausalito ,” “gatsby ,” “stay in my dreams ,” “ticket home ” (co-written with 6x RIAA platinum-certified singer-songwriter Garrett Nash), and the viral favorite, “crutches ”. “This project is super honest,” says Daniel Leggs. “For me, the music is about relating to people and then entertaining them with the quirky storybook we’ve created. It’s like Harold and the Purple Crayon…but if it wasn’t a kid’s book. One thing I love about ‘parasite,’ ‘crutches,’ and the EP as a whole is that there are wild ups and downs. Sometimes the music feels sad, but then there’s always this general feeling of hope. That’s just how being young and figuring things out is. Sometimes things aren’t so hot, and sometimes you feel like the world is yours. Hope everyone enjoys listening through!” In a world of emotional uncertainty, music is the only thing Daniel Leggs is sure of. Growing up as a concert-trained pianist too shy to express himself in daily life beyond gratitude and kindness, the 23-year-old tunesmith has found himself via a series of intimate, ingenious pop ditties which expertly capture the ups, the downs, the heartbreak, and longing for something more of a gifted young artist making his way in 21st Century New York City. Written, recorded, mixed, and mastered in a central Rhode Island basement studio, Leggs’ budgeted studio model produces a distinctive sound that combines relatable lyrics with experimental imperfections to manifest something beautiful and all his own. Leggs kicked off 2023 with his most tender track to date, “last one standing ,” joined by an official live performance video – filmed in Daniel’s kitchen. Now, with the arrival of his Overall/Atlantic debut EP, Daniel Leggs is telling the runaway story of his daydreams, one perfect pop song at a time. We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing Moon Boots over Zoom video! Talented keyboardist, DJ, and producer Moon Boots (Peter Dougherty) has revealed his third studio album ‘Ride Away’. The ten-track LP will land on March 17th on Anjunadeep. Written and produced over a nearly two-year period beginning in early 2021, ‘Ride Away’ contains themes of love, companionship, and personal exploration. Hauling in a crate’s worth of musical influences, Moon Boots has imbued ‘Ride Away’ with his characteristic blend of soul, disco, and house music, whilst also introducing the sounds of synthpop, breakbeats, and psychedelica. Marrying these eclectic styles is part and parcel of Moon Boots’ idiosyncratic sensibility, honed through years of living and DJing in Chicago, the birthplace of house music, and in the musical melting pot of Brooklyn. ‘Ride Away’ follows in the footsteps of Moon Boots’s debut ‘First Landing’ (2017) and sophomore album ‘Bimini Road’ (2019). With an impressive catalogue atypical of the dance world, Dougherty’s third album represents both his tenacity and evolution as a producer and songwriter. The writing process was met with many difficult but rewarding experiences; creative bursts were balanced with instances of anxiety and self-doubt, yet Dougherty found the music writing process invigorating and cites his wife’s continual support and incoming firstborn daughter as encouraging him to move forward. Of course, more time in the studio allowed Dougherty to experiment with new creative processes (and mind-altering methods) over the course of the album’s formation. Featuring a swathe of colourful vocalists including the likes of Cherry Glazerr, Dope Earth Alien, and Nic Hanson, ‘Ride Away’ celebrates Dougherty’s longstanding affinity for collaboration, fun effervescent songwriting, and dance-focused production. Other international artists on the album include French singer Praa and Norwegian band Ora The Molecule, whilst longtime collaborators Ross Clark (St. Lucia) and Steven Klavier feature as writers and instrumentalists on the record, rounding out a global ensemble of incredible talent. Having accrued well over 100 million streams on Spotify alone, and having been championed by the likes of Annie Mac, Diplo, Danny Howard, and The Blessed Madonna, Moon Boots has established himself as a trailblazer of R&B-infused dance music. Having released on legendary French house label French Express, and remixed the likes of Dua Lipa, Robyn, and Nile Rodgers. We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing Rowan Drake over Zoom video! Rising singer-songwriter Rowan Drake has released his new song, “Elephant In The Room,” available now via Atlantic Records/Arthouse Records at all DSPs and streaming services. With over 5 million views on Tik Tok/Instagram Reels prior to its full release, “Elephant In The Room” has already proven one of Drake’s most relatable releases. “Elephant In The Room” follows a growing string of emotionally charged songs from the gifted singer-songwriter, including “Hollow,” “2 People, “Abandonment Issues,” and “Hey Little Sister;” official visualizers can be viewed at Drake’s YouTube channel. For Rowan, songwriting has always provided a space for transforming his feelings into unexpected beauty. Growing up in the small college town of Ithaca, New York, the singer-songwriter first discovered the power of that outlet when, at age 15, a devastating accident ended his dream of becoming a competitive snowboarder. After devoting nearly all his life to his snowboarding career, Drake began exploring his innate musicality by dreaming up his own hypnotic form of pop – moody, immersive, and fearlessly confessional, merging the intense introspection of classic singer/songwriters with a more forward-thinking sonic aesthetic. The talented young troubadour soon began performing locally around his hometown, self-releasing his first song while still in high school. Upon graduation, Drake packed up his car and moved to Los Angeles where he quickly connected with an array of rising young talents and potential collaborators. Currently hard at work creating more new music to follow throughout the year, Rowan Drake remains determinedly focused on preserving the immediate impact of unfiltered expression through deep connection with his fast-growing fan following. We had the pleasure of interviewing Taali over Zoom video! Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and producer Taali unveils her evocative new single ‘It Comes For You.’ A seasoned songsmith who has collaborated with such luminaries as Aloe Blacc, Moby, José James and Mali Music, Taali has received acclaim in Billboard , NPR , KCRW and Bust Magazine . Working with Grammy-winning bassist Ben Williams (who also plays with visionary jazz icons Herbie Hancock and Kamasi Washington) and drummer Dustin Kaufman (who also plays with other boundary-pushing acts like St. Lucia and Moon Boots), Taali takes us on a late night emotional journey through the wreckage of post-pandemic 2023. Waves of shifting synths and shimmering vocal choirs recast the downbeat ethereality of such artists as Beach House, St. Vincent, Portishead and Kate Bush, as Taali explores the peaks and valleys of experiencing - and ultimately overcoming - our collective modern trauma. The song is accompanied by an atmospheric lo-fi video that was shot on Taali’s journeys around the world over the last two years. Out March 10, Taali’s upcoming self-titled album is her most ambitious and personal statement yet. Inspired by her Jewish roots and wandering spirit, taali features musicians from Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw Orchestra, and explores themes of hope and redemption amid our modern state of anxiety. Check out a 3-song sampler here . “They say that there is nothing new under the sun. But, they, surely, had not heard of Taali yet. Taali , the singer-songwriter-producer is nothing short of refreshing.” -Bust Magazine “What stands out most about Taali’s productions are the emphasis on vocals - ethereal in all the right spots and powerful when needed.” -KCRW “Taali fuses a beguiling mix of layered vocals, chamber pop and avant-electronica to directly address trauma, love, and identity.” -Guitar Girl Magazine We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing Fritz Hager over Zoom video! Fritz Hager released his latest single "Caroline” on Friday, January 12th. The song followed the release of Hager’s self-titled EP, which hit #1 on the pop charts, and his top 5 single “Hearts Align,” which he performed on Kelly and Ryan. Here’s a teaser of the lyric video that will be accompanying “Caroline.” Hager grew up a typical preacher’s kid, not just in the pews but in the stands with the choir. It was there that he developed his voice, and in sixth grade he picked up his first guitar and started writing, influenced by his heroes AC/DC, The Killers, Oasis, Ed Sheeran, James Bay, and John Mayer. He took a mental health hiatus after dropping out of college, which proved to be a period of growth and creativity, but like all people during the pandemic, he was faced with the choice of either putting his career on hold or indulging his dreams by whatever means possible. This led to his audition for American Idol, where he became a fan favorite, peaking at Top 5. Since then, Hager has taken to the road, performing alongside Maddie Poppe and Leah Marlene, and embarking on the all-Idol “Don’t Blink Tour.” He’s also been hard at work in the studio, with his new single “Caroline” telling the fictitious story of a one-night-stand, a sitcom-esque drama wherein the male character forgets the name of his heroine acquaintance. "I write for two reasons,” Fritz comments, "to bring sincerity into the mainstream—making observations about the world, personal struggles, universal struggles—and escapism, which is to simply zone out and have fun. There’s a need for both, and I like finding the balance.” We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing DWLLRS over Zoom video! The indie-pop California-duo DWLLRS put out an emotional, beautifully written stripped-down new track called “End Of It All. On the track, the duo share: “’End Of It All’” is us not wanting to have any fundamental regrets when everything is said and done. We know what kind of life we want to experience, and this song is us aching to fulfill the hope we have for a life well lived. Things will always get in the way — but those things play into the duality of love, life, and purpose. This song is a step into our future — and a confident nod to life’s impermanence.” If you’re unfamiliar with DWLLRS, you may know their single “Blue Spirits” - it is currently trending Top 10 on TikTok’s US Top Songs chart, with over 100K creates in less than a month. We had the pleasure of interviewing Dave Rowntree over Zoom video! Dave Rowntree is pleased to share the new single "TAPE MEASURE" from his debut album, Radio Songs which was released on January 20, 2023 through Cooking Vinyl. "Tape Measure" is streaming now. It’s a song that dips into the melting pot of sound that the Blur drummer accumulates from his passion for dipping in and out of radio stations the world over and landing on the distinctive sound of a Bollywood soundtrack that Dave splices together with a clipped beat. It’s a colorful tune, all rhythm and melody. Dave Rowntree on "Tape Measure": “Anxiety - an unpleasant emotion of inner turmoil and dread. We're fundamentally herd animals, whose main defensive tactic is running away and hiding. We've no sharp claws or teeth to fight with. So we're over sensitized to danger. We see shapes in the shadows, faces in the fire. Disaster always lurks on the grey edges of our consciousness. On the upside, come the zombie apocalypse, we anxious people will already be in hiding, leaving all you smug normies to have your brains eaten.” Radio Songs was produced by Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno, Wild Beasts, Ghostpoet). We had the pleasure of interviewing Printz Board of Parker Lane over Zoom video! Parker Lane has released their new full-length album, Kaleidoscope, out today via Beets & Produce. The 13-track LP, co-produced by front man Printz Board along with Ryan Hadlock (The Lumineers, Vance Joy, Zach Bryan), was written during the pandemic when Printz opened his soul and examined the moments that shaped him into the person he is today. The result is a collection of folk pop anthems highlighting this journey of self-realization that everyone can relate to. Kaleidoscope incorporates all of Printz’ talents from spotlighting his beguiling vocals to sharing his multi-instrumental abilities, indulging listeners into the world of Parker Lane for a sonic experience that will refresh and invigorate their soul. The album opens with the jaunty, foot-tapping “Have We Met Before ,” an infectious tune about the instant connection you feel with others. The inspiring acoustic-driven “Brave ” is an anthem for the underdogs, those chasing the confidence within while the piano-laden offering “How You Feel ” acts as a confessional exploring hope, forgiveness, and second chances. Newest single “Magic” erupts into a plethora of hand claps, drum kicks, and layered harmonies as it speaks to individuals with loved ones out of reach, reassuring them they will be together soon. Elsewhere on the album is "Fire" which was inspired by the people who unexpectedly come into our lives and make us better versions of ourselves and the stunning English/Spanish duet "Excusas" featuring Debi Nova which is a response to those who question the decision to stay in a relationship full of ups and downs. Full track listing below. With this album, it’s clear that Parker Lane’s twist on classic Americana uplifted by 21st century soul and pop boundlessness continues to set them apart from the rest. This is even more evident in Kaleidoscope’s recording process which featured all live instrumentation, from drums and piano to strings and guitar, in an effort to establish an authentic atmosphere. Mixed by Ryan Hadlock, recorded between Los Angeles at Gold Diggers and Seattle at Bear Creek Studios, and mastered by Dave Kutch (Alicia Keys, FINNEAS, Lizzy McAlpine), Kaleidoscope is the first full-length from Parker Lane since the release of their 2018 acoustic album P.L.A.Y. and coinciding EP, REPLAY , which featured the stunning duet “3 A.M. ” with Lucy Graves and breezy love song “Speechless .” ABOUT PRINTZ BOARD While Parker Lane speaks to his soul directly, for nearly two decades Printz Board has quietly impacted pop music and culture from behind the scenes, creating a string of recognizable and renowned hits. The Ohio-born and Los Angeles-based two-time GRAMMY® Award winner and multiple BMI Award-winner is most notably known as a co-writer and producer for Black Eyed Peas (“Where Is The Love?,” “Don’t Phunk With My Heart,” “My Humps,” “Meet Me Halfway”) in addition to his work with artists including Selena Gomez, Justin Timberlake, John Legend, Macy Gray, Mark Ronson, and most recently BTS on their #1 song “My Time .” Printz Board has also collaborated with the Los Angeles Lakers, penning a new theme song for their 2021-22 season in collaboration with Pepsi, as well as other efforts with the Obama family, Andra Day, and Hyundai, among others.
