I get so tired of people who respond with “life’s not fair,” or “you’re letting them win by holding onto the past.”

Yes, it’s important to move on and not let it run your life, but it still wasn’t fair. And sometimes, we need to let that out.

Denying us that or making us feel bad about that is very invalidating. It’s okay to be angry, sad or whatever else and acknowledge the wrong that was done to you.

Genuinely I think one of the best things you can do to build characters in your story is give them a kink. You do not have to put that kink in the story. You do not have to tell anyone but yourself. But thinking about their wants and needs and what would bring them comfort or desire, about whether they crave power or crave a situation where they're blessedly free from any power, about which taboo they might kind of want to cross, is really useful for getting inside their head. Also "what situation would make my character stupid horny enough to make a terrible mistake?" is a good plotting device. "It's a plot hole that they made that dumb decision" no they were just whistling like a lustful kettle and forgot to turn their brain on.

People who aren’t writers just don’t get it. They think that our favorite OCs would be getting the easiest possible rides in life, but nope, all of our favorite OCs get French-dipped in blood and angst and trauma.

I fucking hate how I look.

So, I'm Agender. I've been recently trying out different styles to... I don't know.... see how they feel? I got a pink shirt a while ago, and I think I like that and then today I got programmer socks because I'm a programmer and well... they're cool.

I tried them on and I absolutely hated it. I took one look and decided "No! This is not me. I do not like this." But I kept them on anyway. Partly to see if the feeling would change, and partly because I was going to a fancy queer event and wanted to try and be out there.

The feeling didn't change. I spent the entire night looking down at them and realizing I hated how I looked and I hated my body. I already don't really like how I look on the best of days, and this didn't help at all.

I also hate my hair. It's so ridiculously curly. Everyone else I know just looks at it and goes "I like it! It makes you stand out and look unique", or compare it to the (also awful) buzz cut I had earlier, but me? I hate it.

Why can't I just have nice straight hair? That's what I want. Shoulder length straight hair would be awesome...

I don't know. I just look at my face in the mirror and feel either nothing or hatred. Like "That's not me. I don't recognize you."

And I also kind of avoid thinking about the subject which also leads to me not really doing anything that might make my face look better.

I noticed that an amazing fic I read with over 60k words and over 900 kudos...didn't receive a single comment in 2022.

There were some comments in 2021, then a gap, then a few comments from this year. That is insane.

Ao3 is not built like Wattpad, it is not meant to be treated like the 'latest hits' page where you only read the new works, or where you only click on sort by number of kudos. It doesn't matter if the fic you like is not wip anymore - if you really like the story, comment. A simple heart will do. The author won't think you're annoying, in fact they'll probably be incredibly happy.

Fic authors don't deserve to have their work just disappear with no engament after few weeks pass. The fics don't deserve it either
